From Overdose to Encounter: How Jesus Met a Heroin Addict at IHOP – Adam Vibe Gunton's Recovery Story (Ep. 180) After years of heroin addiction, homelessness, and a near-fatal overdose caught on camera, Adam Vibe Gunton was out of options—until a supernatural encounter in an IHOP changed everything. In this episode of Genuine Life Recovery, I talk with Adam about his dramatic journey from despair to purpose, his powerful vision of Jesus, and how that moment set him free from addiction for good. Adam now leads Recovered on Purpose, a national movement helping others share their stories, eliminate shame, and find lasting hope through faith and recovery. This raw and redemptive conversation dives deep into fentanyl's deadly grip, the broken treatment system, and how God's grace can reach anyone—no matter how far they've fallen. About Adam's Work: Through Recovered on Purpose, Adam and his team provide a free 50-state resource guide for people seeking addiction treatment—especially those on or eligible for Medicaid. His for-profit agency, Behavioral Health Partners, helps ethical, mission-driven treatment centers grow and serve clients with excellence. Adam is also a partner in Radix Recovery, opening 68 new detox beds to help people begin their healing journey.

The classroom is open and the girls are back in session! With Allison out for the week, Lisa welcomes special guest and honorary Soggy Bottom Girl, Emma—a British baker living in Pittsburgh who's here to decode the mystery of Back to School Week on The Great British Bake Off.From flapjacks that aren't pancakes to school fêtes (yes, that's pronounced “fate”) that involve coconuts and queens, this episode is a deep dive into British school traditions that had Lisa more confused than a Bake Off contestant without a proving drawer. Emma breaks down the brilliance of golden syrup, the chewy magic of a classic traybake, and why British school cake comes slathered in custard—not frosting. The two swap stories about school snacks, fundraiser fatigue, homemade sprinkles (yep, we've made them!), and the cultural differences that had Americans asking: “What even is a flapjack?!”Spoiler alert: it's not what you eat at IHOP.Connect with us:https://soggybottomgirls.com Follow us on social media:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/soggybottomgirlsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/soggybottomgirls/
On today's program, an investigation dug into abuse allegations at IHOP-KC—and now a pastoral team charged with making recommendations based on that investigation has determined Mike Bickle is ‘permanently disqualified' from church office. We'll take a look. And, a sexual abuse lawsuit against the missionary agency Ethnos360 has been dismissed. Plus, remembering Voddie Baucham, who passed away last week. But first, Camp Mystic has announced plans to partially reopen next summer—and not everyone is happy about it. Camp Mystic, a Christian girls camp where 27 campers and counselors died in the July 4 flooding along the Guadalupe River in Texas, has said it plans to host camps next summer. The producer for today's program is Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Kim Roberts, Greg Teffertiller, Daniel Ritchie, Isaac Wood, Bob Smietana, Makella Knowles, and Christina Darnell. A special thanks to Christian Index for contributing material for this week's podcast. Until next time, may God bless you.
What happens when a CEO treats thought leadership as essential as strategy? In this episode of Leveraging Thought Leadership, host Peter Winick sits down with Des Hague, an acclaimed executive who has led global brands like PepsiCo, IHOP, and Centerplate, and now advises startups, nonprofits, and private equity firms. He's also the author of "Think Your Way to the Top" and "15 Minutes of Shame", with a third book on the way. Des doesn't see thought leadership as an optional side project. For him, it's the natural extension of leadership itself—codifying the models, frameworks, and mindsets that fuel success. He shares why talent is always the starting point, how leaders must prioritize relentlessly, and why making time for writing and reflection is a choice, not a luxury. We dig into the dangers of mediocrity and entitlement, the critical role of sacrifice, and how to stay focused in a world addicted to distraction. Des's mantra, NSL—Never Stop Learning—pushes leaders to reject complacency and demand excellence from themselves and others. He also opens up about resilience, accountability, and how leaders respond to their lowest moments. Through transparency and candor, Des reframes failure as a lesson, not a life sentence. His story challenges executives to hold themselves to higher standards, embrace growth, and remain relentless in their pursuit of impact. This is an episode for leaders who want more than buzzwords. It's about discipline, clarity, and the courage to lead with integrity—even when the spotlight is harsh. Three Key Takeaways: • Thought leadership is leadership. Codifying frameworks, sharing ideas, and investing in personal development are essential for leading organizations and people effectively. • Focus and sacrifice drive results. Great leaders prioritize ruthlessly, avoid distractions, and make deliberate trade-offs to create time for what matters most. • Resilience and accountability matter. Owning mistakes, learning from setbacks, and maintaining a growth mindset separate leaders who stagnate from those who continue to make an impact. If you enjoyed Des Hague's perspective on leadership, focus, and turning ideas into impact, you'll want to dive into our episode with Will Milano. Both conversations tackle the discipline behind thought leadership—how leaders move beyond inspiration to frameworks, focus, and execution. Des shows how personal accountability and clarity shape great leadership, while Will unpacks how organizations can build a repeatable engine that scales those ideas into measurable business results. Together, these episodes give you a 360° view: the mindset of the leader and the system that powers the enterprise. Listen to both, and you'll walk away with practical insights for making thought leadership not just personal, but organizational. Listen to Will's episode here.

Some weeks the conversation takes a turn you could never see coming, and this one is no exception. From car engines to conspiracy theories, from Detroit basketball to personal faith, Kevin and Sean cover ground that feels bigger than any one episode. The vibe shifts constantly, keeping you leaning in just to see where the next sentence lands. What begins with Kevin talking about tearing apart his Mustang somehow spins into NBA trivia, bad advice from strangers, and the limits of what anyone should attempt alone in a garage. It is messy, funny, and sharp, the way only Kevin can deliver. By the time the topic moves on, you realize you just sat through a masterclass in taking an absurd problem and making it sound like a story worth retelling. From there, Hollywood comes calling. A fresh list of the greatest wrestlers-turned-actors sparks some blunt honesty and surprising respect. Kevin's thoughts on Batista, Cena, Rock, Hogan, Piper, and others highlight how he really sees the industry and where he fits into it. The conversation reveals a lot about ego, perception, and what it actually means to cross over successfully. But then, out of nowhere, the show gets heavier. Reports surrounding Hulk Hogan's death, the swirl of rumors, and the uncomfortable reality of how stories form around tragedy bring the tone to a place few other podcasts would dare go. Kevin responds as only he can, balancing personal insight with a refusal to look away from the bigger questions. And finally, the most unexpected twist of all. A quiet memory of IHOP, late at night, opens into a discussion about faith, belief, and how people wrestle with the things that cannot be explained. Kevin opens up about the moment he asked Jesus into his life and what that has meant to him since. It is raw, personal, and layered in a way that makes the title of this episode mean far more than you might guess at first glance. These bus trips are fun, but man…is the next morning rough! Had a blast on the bus trip to Miller Park yesterday to see the Bob Uecker Celebration of Life. I think the Brew Crew did a great job paying homage to a legend. Except for the outcome of the game, obviously. Jean was off again today to finish up her weekend of moving her daughter into the dorms in Madison, but she should be back tomorrow to tell us all about her emotional weekend.
