Join me on a musical journey through my collection of Soul, Jazz, Blues and Reggae music from the 1950s through to the latest releases. I play anything that could conceivably fall under those headings and much of what you hear will be non-mainstream.
More gems re-discovered amongst my record collection. Antibalas is a favourite and no-one remixes Afrobeat like Umoja - it's the opening track, check it out. Justin Thurgur fronts the Dele Sosimi Horn Section. 'You've Got To' is one of many high quality tracks on his debut Afrobeat album, released late in 2016. Clarence Smith is an artist you may not have come across before. I feature two tracks from his 'Whatever Happened To Love' album which is Gospel Music at it's very best. And if you like something you haven't heard before, check out Paul Hunter and The Answer. It's one of many excellent tracks that fall under the radar on first release. At www.Likwid.London great music never goes un-noticed. Tune in any time any day to hear Free Flowing Music To Open Your Mind. Enjoy!
Featuring three tracks from Caribbean Roots, Anthony Joseph's excellent album released last year (you must listen to Neckbone, it's intoxicating), Afrobeat from Nigeria, the UK and Europe, Colonel Red, London Elekricity and many more. Enjoy!
More selections from my record collection. A journey from Nu and contemporary Jazz to Disco and Dancefloor burners via some great Soul including originals by The Temptations, Impressions, Nancy Wilson and Ethel Ennis and Reggae numbers from Jimmy Cliff, Rico & The Rudies and I&I a.k.a The Regulars. It's all about the music....Are you diggin it?
This week's show includes Jazzy numbers by Monday Michiru (I'm going to see her perform Live in a couple of days!) and Soul Bossa Trio, Deep Soul from Esther Phillips and Anna King (discovered by James Brown), Jazz by Graham Collier and McCoy Tyner, Reggae by The Soulmates and Dillinger and an amazing Dub edit of Dele Sosimi's 2015 track E Go Betta by Prince Fatty and Nostalgia 77. Enjoy!
This week's show comprises selections made as I was unpacking my records following the move to New York. I've included some old favourites by Terry Callier, Lina, Tee Mac, Fertile Ground and Antibalas, one from the excellent Da Lata who I saw Live on New Year's Eve and 2016 releases from Erik Truffaz Quartet and Justin Thurgur. Enjoy!
