Tune in as we discuss Government Cheese, Apple TV's latest surreal comedy co-created by filmmaker Paul Hunter and writer Aeysha Carr. Set in 1969 San Fernando Valley, the show stars David Oyelowo as Hampton Chambers, a recently released convict scrambling to support his family while dodging a debt owed to a quirky French-Canadian crime family. Think Fargo meets Atlanta meets oh so much more. We'll dive into the show's plot, style, its unique blend of absurdity and heart, and compare it to other surrealist comedies we've seen recently. Welcome to Today's Episode!
Created by Ayesha Carr and Paul Hunter, Government Cheese tells the story of Hampton Chambers (David Oyelowo), a criminal in the 1960s who has recently been released from prison. With a new life on the horizon, Hampton has aspirations of returning to his wife and children and starting a legitimate business with an innovative new drill. However, his reunion doesn't go as planned. With his wife and children having (mostly) moved on emotionally, Hampton's return spins their world into chaos. In this 1on1, we speak to stars Jahi Di'Allo Winston and Evan Ellison about whether or not it's ever 'too late for family'.
Plus: Hooters declares bankruptcy, prompting a writer to remember an awkward…but ultimately sweet…experience. Also: The Norwegian Refugee Council's Secretary General Jan Egeland calls on the international community to end its "chronic neglect" of displaced people in eastern Congo.

The doctor who let Paul Hunter know he had back of throat and neck cancer did not have much of a bedside manner. According to Paul, he came in and said, "I'm sorry to have to tell you this. You have cancer and your life is changed forever." Then he handed him a reference for an oncologist and sent him out the door.Paul could have let that curt diagnosis impact his reaction. But after he and his wife drove a bit, pulled over to pray, and then went home to be with their kids, they knew they were going to get through it.Paul moved forward with the monthslong "hell" of treatment, but he never let it get the better of him. In fact, he says a lot of joy came from it."Nobody wishes to go through suffering but there's good there," he said. "Throughout the process you recognize how unbelievably great people are."Paul, who is a devout Catholic and a very good friend of mine, said the experience brought him closer than ever to God. Part of the reason for that was the intense kindness he experienced from countless people, including many he barely knew."Humanity doesn't look so great a lot of times, but when something bad happens, people rally and they come to you and they lift you up and that it a phenomenal thing," he said. It's now a way of life for Paul, who is cancer-free. He is never short of giving a kindness to others suffering an affliction. He also encourages others to offer a gesture, even if feels awkward or nosy."People want to (help) because not only they want to do it for me, but it makes them feel good," he said. "It was a gift to them to say 'yes' so I let people help me."Paul has always had an attitude of gratitude, but if you really want to experience gratitude in action, I urge you to listen to this week's Chiseled podcast. Paul shares his email at the end in case you need help while going through a cancer diagnosis.

Paul Hunter, managing director of North America at HPE, joins Changing Channel's Larry Walsh to discuss the traditional data center hardware company's transition to the Everything-as-a-Service model and what it meant to its channel program. In recent years, vendors across the tech industry have wholeheartedly embraced the Everything-as-a-Service (XaaS) model. This revolutionary approach involves selling technology in various forms through subscription and consumption-based models, which offer numerous benefits. The appeal of this model is undeniable: It generates recurring and predictable revenue while eliminating the uncertainties of sales cycles. While companies that were born in the cloud or have a service-based foundation find it relatively straightforward to adopt the XaaS model, traditional hardware vendors and some software publishers face significant challenges. These companies have long-established transactional sales practices deeply ingrained among partners and customers. Convincing sellers to shift their product positioning to a service-oriented approach and embrace new compensation plans is no easy task. Likewise, getting partners to adopt product sales that require presenting different value propositions and costs can be equally challenging. However, the lure of capturing recurring revenue is simply irresistible. As a result, many hardware vendors are undertaking the transition to XaaS sales models and channel programs, albeit at a slower pace than anticipated due to change management complexities. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) stands out as a prime example of a company that has strategically embraced the service-based model. HPE introduced its cloud-based GreenLake platform in 2017 and set a primary objective of generating the majority of its revenue through service and hybrid infrastructure sales. Over the past five years, HPE has continuously restructured its internal organization and external channel programs to align with the XaaS model. Its efforts are paying off, as the company is well on its way to achieving its revenue goals through service sales in the near future. HPE's accelerating transition to XaaS couldn't come at a better time. According to IDC, a considerable 71% of enterprises are shifting their workloads from public clouds to hybrid and on-premises infrastructure. This move is driven by the desire for enhanced administrative capabilities and cost control. Simultaneously, partners are identifying increasing opportunities to provide managed and professional services alongside XaaS and hybrid engagements. HPE recognizes these trends as significant drivers of growth. In this edition of Changing Channels, we bring you an insightful discussion between Paul Hunter, the managing director of North America for HPE, and Channelnomics Larry Walsh. They delve into the vast opportunities presented to vendors and partners by the XaaS model, highlighting the successes and setbacks that HPE has experienced during the transition process. Moreover, they provide invaluable insights into how businesses can capitalize on the flourishing XaaS and hybrid infrastructure markets. Follow us, Like us, and Subscribe! HOW DOES A SALES LEADER JUGGLE INNOVATION, SKILLS, AND MANAGEMENT?Paul Hunter is back to close his interview with round 3 with Randy. In this episode, Paul gives his insights on the need to evolve compensation to drive behavior for better performance, the primary goal of a Chief of Staff, the kind of skills needed to be a good salesperson, and advice for the younger generation and to his younger self. Let's get a deep dive into these topics in this latest episode of Tech Sales Insights. INSIGHTS OF THE DAYPAUL: THE GOAL OF A CHIEF OF STAFF“One of the things you learn in the Chief of Staff job it's not enough to make the principal successful, you've got to make the principal and their team successful.” PAUL: FORMULA OF A GOOD TECH SALESPERSON“Good listening skills, good questioning skills, I have always found in the best technical people, but built on a foundation of great knowledge.” Don't miss out on our previous episodes and watch out for the next ones:E112 Part 1 - IN FOR THE HUNT: Paul Hunter's Sales Story And Insights On Social Sales ToolsE112 Part 2 - GOING THROUGH CHANGES: Reconfiguring and Evolving Sales Teams with Paul HunterFind out more about Paul Hunter in the links below:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-hunter-3743a8/Hewlett Packard Enterprise: https://www.hpe.com/us/en/home.html This episode of Tech Sales Insights is brought to you by: Sales Community: https://www.salescommunity.com/Gong.io: https://www.gong.io/
Paul Hunter is back for round 2 with Randy and, in this episode, they talk about reconfiguring and evolving sales teams toward a brighter future in tech sales. Paul discusses what it is that he actually does, the changes happening in tech sales today, the bright future of tech sales, the portfolio shift that HP is doing now, and job openings in the company. Find out more about this exciting news in the latest episode of Tech Sales Insights. INSIGHTS OF THE DAYPAUL: THE FUTURE IN TECH SALES IS BRIGHT“A lot of the news is coming with some of the tech layoffs. But I think part of the story that's also missing is, the tech hiring in the past two years far outweighed the layoffs. So I mean, there's a shortage of talent, not an excess of it. So it's very much a buyer's market in terms of world seller's market in terms of if you're talented, there's a lot of demand for your skill. So I think that will just continue. I don't see any slowdown in that.” PAUL: THE PORTFOLIO SHIFT FROM HARDWARE TO CLOUD“So we are essentially moving from a company that was infrastructure and hardware led with services attached to that hardware. And now we are a cloud company that sells services that pull through hardware, in some instances, not all now. And that's a pretty significant change in and obviously, the balance of those two businesses changes over time.” Don't miss out on our previous episode and watch out for the next ones:E112 Part 1 - IN FOR THE HUNT: Paul Hunter's Sales Story And Insights On Social Sales ToolsFind out more about Paul Hunter in the links below:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paul-hunter-3743a8/Hewlett Packard Enterprise: https://www.hpe.com/us/en/home.html This episode of Tech Sales Insights is brought to you by: Sales Community: https://www.salescommunity.com/Gong.io: https://www.gong.io/

A new way of political influence developed - in the form of an intelligent, charismatic woman - one who usually became the royal mistress. Diane de Poitiers is a prime example of this power player. On Tuesday, the U.S. holds its midterm elections. That means all 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs, as are about a third of the Senate's seats. These midterms are significant. It's the first big round of elections since Joe Biden became president, since rioters stormed the Capitol and since Roe v. Wade was overturned. The results could impact American policy for years to come. Today, CBC Washington correspondent Paul Hunter talks about some of the tight races, and what makes them so consequential.

Mary Queen of Scots was an active ruler of Scotland for just six years (1561-1567) yet her reign has attracted more attention and debate than that of any other monarch in Scottish History. Earlier this week, U.S. Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham introduced a bill that would place a federal ban on abortions after 15 weeks. While the bill isn't believed to have a high chance of passing in the immediate future, it does further crank up the heat around the abortion debate ahead of the November midterm elections. Since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade — which protected the constitutional right to an abortion — Democrats have seen a renewed surge in popularity, buoying their hopes of holding onto one or both chambers of Congress in November. But questions remain about whether Democratic wins would actually guarantee greater protections for abortion rights. Today, CBC Washington correspondent Paul Hunter is here to sort through all of this with us.
