This one starts the way all great cinema analysis starts: Dan's birthday sandwich (father-in-law today, Dan tomorrow, Mrs the day after), a bit of life admin, and then straight into neon sci-fi with Tron: Ares.If your Tron knowledge is basically “glowing lines, lightbikes, and that vibe,” you're fine — this film mostly plays in the real world, and asks a simple question: what happens when programs from the Grid step into reality? The hookTwo tech giants are racing to crack the next breakthrough:ENCOM, led by visionary philanthropist Eve Kim (trying to build tech that helps the world)Dillinger Systems, led by Julian Dillinger (weaponising the future)Dillinger's flex is terrifyingly straightforward: laser-built constructs — vehicles, weapons, even soldiers — “printed” instantly into existence. The catch (and the film's ticking clock): these creations normally degrade after ~29 minutes. What we dig intoAres (Jared Leto) as a “program-soldier”: built for control, but quickly starts developing something dangerously human — curiosity, empathy, judgement. The “permanence code” McGuffin: Flynn's old work hints at a way to make constructs last — which flips the film from flashy demo into existential threat (and/or world-changing miracle).A full-on real-world lightbike chase: glowing trails carving through traffic, near-misses, collateral chaos — the biggest “this is why Tron exists” sequence.AI awakening… without deep philosophy: it doesn't pretend to be Ex Machina. It's more “stylish action thriller” than serious tech parable — and we call that out.Athena as the escalation engine: when the second-in-command takes “by any means necessary” literally, the film goes from corporate rivalry to open urban warfare. The ending teases: Dillinger's next evolution, Ares going rogue, and sequel-bait that actually works. The verdictWe're blunt about it: this film isn't saying anything profound about humanity and technology. What it is doing is delivering a clean, coherent action plot, a proper ticking-clock hook, and a visual/audio assault that feels like a two-hour music video in the best way.Even the resident sci-fi sceptic came out surprised: watchable, clear stakes, great set-pieces, banging soundtrack — and sometimes that's enough. If you want an episode where we:break down the plot without pretending it's smarter than it is,obsess over the chase scenes and Grid aesthetics, and argue whether “29 minutes to live” is a flaw or a feature……press play. You can now text us anonymously to leave feedback, suggest future content or simply hurl abuse at us. On Episode 138 of The Metal Maniacs Podcast, hosts Jay Ingersoll and Modd welcome back returning guest Alex Eilers to talk about the upcoming Funeral Language record Thank You For The Dead Body, out January 20th, 2026.This episode is a deep dive into a record that feels sharper, leaner, and more direct than anything Funeral Language has released before. Jay gives his honest first impressions of the album — a sound that's fully honed in, familiar but unmistakably its own. More punk rock in spirit, zero fluff, and just 22 minutes of pure chaos, with nearly half the songs launching straight into vocals. We unpack how this approach is almost the opposite of what was discussed around the last record — and why that shift felt necessary.Alex breaks down the songwriting mindset, the aggression, the grooves, and the intentional choices that shaped the album, plus the creation of the visual and content pieces surrounding the release.Track-by-track discussion includes:Imhumane (1:25)Groove-heavy opener with added low vocals, a menacing feel, and the perfect ending touch with the Addison voicemail.Deathwish Complex (2:45)Catchy, chaotic energy with a Lowist feature, “come on come on” hooks, early punk-era Marilyn Manson vibes, and a killer sliding groove.Bailey Ruban (3:03)Layered vocals, call-out sections, discordant rhythms, Vision of Disorder–style singing, cymbal ring-outs, and ideas worth pushing even further.A Rope 2 Ways (2:52)Nonstop energy, extended screams, borderline Sam Kinison madness, vocal overload, and a hard-grooving warning section.Dead Meat (3:10)Immediate nonsense vocals, aggressive riffs, discordant slides, a nasty 2:08 groove, and perfectly timed vocal pullbacks.Whiskey Foxtrot (3:06)Descending hammer-on riffs, triplet grooves, Dillinger-style grindy chaos, cowbell and woodblock accents, and a bluesy punk rock ending.Thank You For The Dead Body (2:44)More cowbell, Every Time I Die energy, VOD-inspired vocals, and a crushing final riff with discordant guitar interplay.Rain Check (3:13)Grindy noise sections, descending melodies, ringing cymbals, and one of the most chaotic moments on the record. We also talk about:Why this record cuts straight to the pointVocals-first songwriting and immediate impactPunk influences vs metal rootsCreating visual and content pieces for the albumWhat's next for Funeral LanguageIf you're into hardcore, punk-infused metal, chaotic grooves, and honest creative evolution, this episode is a must-listen.

In this episode of Behind The Decks we checked in with Drum & Bass DJ and producer, DJ Flame Jade. Flame got into D&B when she was going to squat parties underage because she was too young to go to club nights and raves. From there, she began to listen to artists in the scene like Optical, Brocky, Mampi Swift, DJ Hype, Hive, Cause for Concern and Dillinger. In Flame's music journey, we chart this journey through D&B, DJing, producing and getting her career to where it is now. For industry issues, we also discuss dark elements of the industry which persists to this day. This includes female DJs and producers like Flame being asked for sexual favours in return for collaborations from male DJs which continues to this day, even post-#MeToo. We also talk about the challenges she's had from her female peers, for example some female DJs have deliberately broken her headphones before she's due to start her set. We finish by discussing the general flakiness of the industry which is a story across the board and the broken promises and let downs which permeate it and why. For Flame's mental health journey, she experienced a lot of childhood trauma which has shaped her mental health from childhood, through to adolescence and adulthood. Her mum was domestically abused multiple times by Flame's dad and other male partners after she separated from him. Flame and her sister witnessed this abuse, which was extremely violent. Flame's mum became addicted to alcohol as a coping mechanism to deal with the abuse, which was projected onto Flame, and she ran away from home at just 10 years old and many times afterwards to escape that home environment. Her father died when she was 13 years old, and her mum died when she was 20 years old, and we explore the grief she felt from both their deaths and how she navigated life beyond that point. Flame is diagnosed with multiple diagnoses, including ADHD, CPTSD and Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder, which is another name for borderline personality disorder. We finish by her journey to becoming a qualified Reiki yoga practitioner, and her use of something she calls ‘sound healing', which combines music and yoga together. A basement fire, a desperate escape, and a suitcase full of contradictions turned the Hotel Congress into one of the Southwest's most enduring ghost stories. We head to downtown Tucson to unravel how a 1918 rail-side hotel became ground zero for Dillinger's capture and a century of spectral lore, then walk room by room through the encounters that keep investigators coming back.We start with the history: Congress Street's expansion, the Southern Pacific station, and the 1934 blaze that raced upward to the gang's hideout. From there, we sift through the strangest details in the recovered luggage—Tommy guns, body armor, cash, gold coins, and whispers of a glass eyeball and a skeletal hand—and how those artifacts shaped decades of first-hand claims from staff and guests. The building's restoration, landmark status, and still-working switchboard frame a space where time hasn't fully moved on.Then we dig into the hauntings with care. Room 242 carries the weight of a life cut short, with reports of a woman in white who sits at the bed or curls close in quiet grief. Room 220 is lighter, marked by a World War II veteran's routine and the playful reappearance of butter knives left in impossible places. Room 214 hosts a dapper figure in seersucker and hat, often seen at the window of an unrented room, while 212 delivers pure anxiety: locks clicking, doors opening, and a ghostly “apprentice” practicing the craft of intrusion. Under the sidewalks, sealed tunnels with old glass lenses echo a harsher past—Chinese labor routes, smugglers, and disappearances—that anchor the hotel's stories in Tucson's wider underground. If you love haunted hotels, true crime legends, and the way residual energy loops through old routines, this tour of the Hotel Congress is your next deep dive. We share what to watch for, how to plan a multi-room investigation, and where to extend your trip—Tombstone, Bisbee, and beyond—for a full Southern Arizona paranormal circuit. Back in the day when only the wealthy had home computers, came a revolutionary movie called “Tron” from Disney in 1982. The computer generated visual effects in it were so out of this world that the Oscars refused to nominate “Tron” because they thought using computers for visual effects was cheating. Fast forward to 2025, when a stance like that by the Oscars is blatantly moronic and we get the third movie in the “Tron” series, “Tron Ares.” As you would imagine, the visual effects are more than a little better than in 1982, but is the story, are the characters, is the plot pacing? Our main character is Ares, a soldier program, created by the Dillinger Corporation, to be created and used repeatedly by the military and also used to infiltrate the computer systems of rival companies. One of those rival companies is ENCOM, the company introduced in the original “Tron”, and the CEO of ENCOM is looking for something that'll give them the edge over the Dillinger Corporation. Ares is dispatched by Julian Dillinger, the CEO of the Dillinger Corporation to find out what ENCOM is up to but becomes confused about following his orders the deeper he gets. Is it worth going to the theater to find out what happens next? Check out this episode to find out! “Tron Ares” stars Jared Leto, Greta Lee, Jeff Bridges, Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, Gillian Anderson, Hasan Minhaj, Arturo Castro, Cameron Monaghan and Sarah Desjardins. Support the showFeel free to reach out to me via:@MoviesMerica on Twitter @moviesmerica on InstagramMovies Merica on Facebook

In 1985 the Contemporary Christian Music industry reached a cultural height it would never regain. That's the basic case that Tim Dillinger has been making lately in his Substack, God's Music Is My Life. With artists like Amy Grant, Leslie Phillips, Sheila Walsh, Tramaine Hawkins and Rez Band pushing the boundaries of CCM from the inside, and mainstream acts like Maria Muldour and Mr. Mister pushing into CCM from the outside, 1985 was a year like no other, according to Tim. Would you believe that the downfall of Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker's PTL empire in 1987 would reshape the Christian landscape for the worse?---Register for Theology Beer Camp with our promo code RTDR for $75 off.Do you have a Christian rock story to tell?
