Heart's Nancy Wilson says women have lost the momentum in American culture, but ignores the gains made by keeping men out of women's sports. The latest on Dems' war on women, plus the morning's biggest stories on Hour 4 of the Wednesday Bob Rose Show 3-26-25

TALK TO ME, TEXT ITThe alarming rise of politically charged rhetoric and its real-world consequences takes center stage in this candid morning reflection. When Representative Jasmine Crockett suggests Democrats need to "punch" in races against Senator Ted Cruz, we must ask: how do such statements impact our already volatile political landscape? With Tesla dealerships becoming targets of what can only be described as domestic terrorism—complete with incendiary devices and armed suspects—the connection between inflammatory speech and dangerous action becomes impossible to ignore.Meanwhile, Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson's declaration that "it's more embarrassing than ever to be an American" sparks a fascinating exploration of celebrity influence and fan reactions. As social media critics suggest she leave the country while longtime fans wrestle with disappointment, we're confronted with a deeply personal question: where do we draw our own boundaries when it comes to separating art from political views? The conversation evolves into a thoughtful examination of consumer choices and personal values. Can we still enjoy Streisand's voice while disagreeing with her politics? Should we continue watching Clooney's films despite opposing viewpoints? These aren't simple questions with universal answers—they're individual judgments that reveal much about how we navigate our increasingly divided culture. What's your threshold for boycotting? Have you ever stopped supporting an artist, product, or company based solely on political statements? Join the conversation and share where you draw your own lines between appreciation and principle in today's complex political landscape. For this bonus episode, the Shakespeare and Company podcast welcomes Jeremy Pelt, renowned jazz trumpeter and author of Griot: Examining the Lives of Jazz Great Storytellers. In conversation with Alex Freiman, Pelt discusses the evolution of jazz, the influence of oral traditions, and the importance of documenting firsthand accounts from legendary musicians. Reflecting on his early days at Berklee, his experiences touring worldwide, and his deep reverence for jazz elders like Roy Haynes and Wayne Shorter, Pelt shares insights into both the triumphs and struggles of jazz musicians. He also addresses the debate over the term “jazz,” the intersection of jazz and hip-hop, and the ongoing challenge of preserving the music's integrity in an industry that often sidelines its true practitioners. Listen in for a compelling exploration of jazz history, culture, and the passion that fuels one of its modern torchbearers.*Jeremy Pelt has become one of the preeminent young trumpeters within the world of jazz. Forging a bond with the Mingus Big Band very early on, as his career progressed, Pelt built upon these relationships and many others which eventually lead to collaborations with some of the genre's greatest masters. These projects include performances and recordings with Cliff Barbaro, Keter Betts, Bobby "Blue" Bland, Ravi Coltrane, Frank Foster, Winard Harper, Jimmy Heath, Vincent Herring, John Hicks, Charli Persip, Ralph Peterson, Lonnie Plaxico, Bobby Short, Cedar Walton, Frank Wess, Nancy Wilson and The Skatalites, to name a few.Pelt frequently performs alongside such notable ensembles as the Roy Hargrove Big Band, The Village Vanguard Orchestra and the Duke Ellington Big Band, and is a member of the Lewis Nash Septet and The Cannonball Adderley Legacy Band featuring Louis Hayes. As a leader, Pelt has recorded ten albums and has toured globally with his various ensembles, appearing at many major jazz festivals and concert venues.Pelt's recordings and performances have earned him critical acclaim, both nationally and internationally. He has been featured in the Wall Street Journal by legendary jazz writer and producer, Nat Hentoff, and was voted Rising Star on the trumpet, five years in a row by Downbeat Magazine and the Jazz Journalist Association. Pelt is currently touring throughout the United States and Europe in support of his latest release, "Soundtrack".Alex Freiman is a guitarist, composer, and singer trained at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Drawing from jazz, blues, soul, and funk, he masterfully blends these influences with energy and virtuosity, creating music that is both groovy and sophisticated. After collaborating with major figures on the French and international scenes, including Stéphane Belmondo, he released his debut album as a leader, Play It Gentle, in 2017. Recorded with Léon Parker (drums), Fred Nardin (organ), and special guest Stéphane Belmondo, this album reflects his passion for improvisation and sonic elegance. Constantly seeking innovation, he launched Alex Freiman & The Hot Sauce, an explosive project where jazz, funk, soul, and hip-hop intertwine. His EP In The Beginning (September 2024) marks the start of a new musical era, followed by the singles We Are One (January 2025), featuring rapper Tiemoko, and This Is The Hot Sauce (March 2025), affirming his vibrant and innovative musical identity. In 2025, Alex Freiman continues his groove exploration with a new album and fresh collaborations. rWotD Episode 2827: All in Love Is Fair (album) Welcome to Random Wiki of the Day, your journey through Wikipedia’s vast and varied content, one random article at a time. The random article for Wednesday, 29 January 2025 is All in Love Is Fair (album). All in Love Is Fair is a studio album by American singer Nancy Wilson, released by Capitol Records in August 1974. It was her first album with producer Gene Page, who also did the arrangements and conducting and gave the album a more R&B-oriented sound. Musicians on the album include Ray Parker Jr., Wah Wah Watson, and Tom Scott. Marvin Gaye is also listed on the back cover as "The Phantom," with "warmest thanks." All in Love Is Fair includes one of the few songs co-written by Wilson.Jason Ankeny at AllMusic hails Wilson's "sultriness and soulfulness. Page swaddles the singer in billowing strings and slow-burn funk rhythms, weaving a series of luminously sensual backdrops that wouldn't be out of place on Motown or Philadelphia International." He also notes that "the music never veers so far into the mainstream that Wilson abandons her jazz roots entirely, and she brings to the songs the intelligence and articulateness one would expect."All in Love Is Fair peaked at No. 11 on Billboard's Soul LPs chart and No. 97 on the Billboard 200. The song "Streetrunner" reached No. 46 on Billboard's Best Selling Soul Singles. In 2011, SoulMusic Records released a digitally remastered version of the album, paired with Come Get to This, Wilson's next album, which was also produced by Gene Page. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:44 UTC on Wednesday, 29 January 2025.For the full current version of the article, see All in Love Is Fair (album) on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm long-form Patrick.

I went to Roberto Venn School of Luthiery in 1997. Worked at Vince's Backstage music in Lafayette, La. until 2000. I then moved to the Hamptons, which was a mistake for my career. Ended up working other jobs, as well as repair to pay the bills. 2002 Moved to Nashville and ended up working for a company in Franklin that did factory refurbishments and Warranty repairs. I also had my own small shop and did a little touring with small bands. In December 06 I started working for Gruhn and was there till Aug. 2024. Even working for shops I've always had my own shop to do personal customer repairs. At Gruhn, I was a Repairman and Appraiser. I was tasked with going through the Electric instruments to inspect for originality. One of the repairs I did a lot of was Pickup rewinds. I've been rewinding pickups since 1999. Although I got most of my experience at Gruhn. I started building Pickups around 05. I have built and rewound pickups for a lot of folks In Nashville. Mostly players. Issac Brock of Modest Mouse uses my pickups in the Wicks guitars he uses in the studio and on tour. One of the Tele's Jack White uses in the Studio has one of my rewinds in the bridge position.I've worked for Songwriters like Kent Blazy (Garth Brooks, Patti Loveless, Chris Young), and producers like Mickey Jack Cones (Carrie Underwood, George Strait, etc.). On this episode of The City's Backyard Podcast we go out to Seattle, Washington to chat with Steve Fossen Co Founder and Original HEART Bassist about his days in HEART! Today Steve is in a new band called HEART by HEART! The Story of Heart By HeartThe original rhythm section for Heart - one of classic rock's most successful and revered bands - is still locked in and delivering those iconic songs as faithfully as possible, says bassist and co-founding member Steve Fossen (a member of Heart from 1969 to 1982), of his band Heart By Heart. Along with former Heart drummer Michael Derosier (1975-1982), vocalist Somar Macek, Lizzy Daymont on guitar, keyboards and vocals, and guitarist Chad Quist, Fossen says Heart By Heart is committed to playing the music with as much reverence and respect as possible. “Our mission is to perform the classic Heart music as faithfully as we can,” according to Fossen. Heart By Heart began organically as a duo when Fossen met vocalist Somar Macek in 2008. “We started out playing dinner parties, bistros and jam nights around town,” Fossen said of the musical pairing. By 2009, Fossen and Macek were a couple and have since married. “We were so in love, we decided to call the project Heart by Heart,” Fossen says. When booking agents began requesting a full band, Fossen welcomed the opportunity to once again play professionally with Derosier while sharing the stage with his new love, Somar. Heart By Heart presents a powerful, dynamic show that includes all the favorite Heart hits such as Barracuda, Straight On, Crazy On You and Magic Man, as well as deep album cuts that Heart fans will love. “We take the music very seriously,” said Fossen. “Ann and Nancy Wilson are rock's premiere sisters, and with Heart By Heart, we respect and honor that music we made together.” Aside from regular repeat appearances around their Pacific Northwest home base, Heart By Heart has been touring the US since 2014, taking their show on the road to Performing Arts Centers, indoor and outdoor theaters, casinos, fairs and festivals. Fossen says that one of the most rewarding aspects of Heart By Heart is meeting with fans, who are encouraged to bring Heart memorabilia to shows for the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers to sign afterwards. “We have people coming up to us after shows with tears in their eyes,” he said. “They thank us for bringing back memories of those days. Somar and I started singing these songs out a pure love for the material, and now that we've branched out and are touring around the country, it's really rewarding to talk to fans and hear their stories and memories.” For more click on the website! https://www.heartbyheart.com
Before they hit it big, Heart found themselves ripping club gigs, where they earned the nickname “Little Led Zeppelin.” It's a moniker that stuck as the band carried the torch first lit by their heroes for decades to come. If you've ever seen the Kennedy Center video of Heart covering “Stairway to Heaven” for Robert Plant and Jimmy Page, you know how bright that fire burns. After covering Nancy Wilson on an earlier episode of 100 Guitarists, we knew we had to invite her to join us on our Jimmy Page episode! She tells us about discovering Led Zeppelin—from walking out on their opening set for Fifth Dimension to eventually hearing them at the right place at the right time—and shares her favorite songs, what it was like meeting Jimmy for the first time, and then what it was like to play for him at the Kennedy Center. On our current listening segment, we're talking about releases from guitarists Niwel Tsumbu and drummer Nate Smith. Thanks to Gibson for the support: https://www.gibson.com/en-US/p/Electric-Guitar/Jimmy-Page-EDS-1275-Doubleneck-VOS/69-Cherry?utm_source=premier_guitar&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=fy25_gibson&utm_content=jimmy_page_eds-1275Follow Nick: https://www.instagram.com/nickmillevoiFollow Jason: https://www.instagram.com/jasonshadrickGet at us: 100guitarists@premierguitar.comCall/Text: 319-423-9734Podcast powered by Sweetwater. It's time for the hardest rocking song ever written about sea life, as Kirk takes a deep dive into Heart's 1977 body-shaker "Barracuda."A deceptively complex song written around a deceptively straightforward riff, "Barracuda" opens the door for a discussion of the particulars of guitar tone, stompbox effects, the long history of the "galloping groove," why Ann Wilson's vocals rock as hard as they do, and a brief tribute to her sister Nancy's killer guitar chops.Band/Artist: HeartAlbum: Little Queen, 1977Composed by: Ann Wilson, Nancy Wilson, Roger Fisher, Michael DeRosierListen/Buy:Apple Music | Amazon | Spotify------ALSO FEATURED:"Pride and Joy" by Stevie Ray Vaughan"Make a Mistake with Me" by Brad Paisley"November Rain" by Guns 'n Roses feat. Michael Wolff, a renowned jazz pianist, composer and bandleader known for his virtuoso performances and innovative style. After leaving music school early to join the Latin-jazz great Cal Yader's band in the early '70s, he spent the next two decades gigging and recording extensively. Michael can be heard on over 21 recordings with a veritable hall of fame ranging from Cannonball Adderley, Sonny Rollins, Nancy Wilson (he was her musical director), Sheila E, Christian McBride, Tony Williams, and more. He has performed with and conducted over 25 symphony orchestras worldwide and also had a five-year tenure as the musical director of the high energy house band on Arsenio Hall's groundbreaking late-night talk show. This journey led to him accompanying saxophonist and Presidential candidate Bill Clinton in 1992. His newest album, MEMOIR is a stunning collection of 11 tracks, a mixture of moods, beautifully and elegantly played with his frequent trio partners, stellar musicians Alan Mednard, and Ben Allison. His newest album release is especially noteworthy because it is miraculous he is alive after a brutal battle with a misdiagnosed form of cancer that had him at death's door. But he's back making incredible music! #jazzmusic #jazz #jazzmusician #jazzpiano #piano #cancersurvivor #memoir #newalbum #newmusic #newrelease #neworleans #chicago #newyork #losangeles #arsenohall
Grace Bowers is on the show for Episode 250!! This amazing young artist has been enjoying a breakout year, having recently been featured on Jimmy Kimmel Live and made her Grand Ole Opry debut on her 18th birthday on July 30!! Her debut album, Wine on Venus, is out now, and she has spent the summer sitting in with luminaries such as Dolly Parton, Tyler Childers and Gary Clark, Jr., and has been a featured guest at numerous festivals across the country. Grace talks to me about growing up as a shy kid in Northern California, having suffered bouts of anxiety, and how she was able to use her guitar skills as a means of expression in ways that surprised even herself. Having accomplished so much already, Grace tells me that it can be at times overwhelming, but at the same time, she has always expected this success of herself, but not perhaps as quickly as it has come. We have a candid and revealing conversation, and this is an epic interview for Roadcase Episode 250!!For more information on Roadcase: https://linktr.ee/roadcasepod and https://www.roadcasepod.comOr contact Roadcase by email: info@roadcasepod.comRoadcase theme music: "Eugene (Instrumental)" by Waltzer
