Welcome to Paolo Dell Aquila's podcast, episode 1! Paolo talks about his background and history that led up to CPMHA's campaign. Paolo is a former wrestling champion, amateur football player, rugby player, bare-knuckle boxer, and boxing sparring partner for professional fighters. Paolo now battles multiple brain disorders that are the result of head injuries from years of contact sports, all of which occurred before he was 29.  These brain disorders have progressed into severe mental health symptoms, which he believes a large percentage of the world can identify with even without suffering from traumatic brain injury.  Paolo has been diagnosed with post-TBI (post-Traumatic Brain Injury), which has likely progressed into Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE).  His history, medical examinations, and symptoms have led to doctors giving him a 90 percent chance of having CTE, even though a definite diagnosis can only be given post-mortem.  Paolo's guardian angel doctor Russell A. Bourne, Jr., Ph.D., has helped Paolo through his struggles and has given Paolo coping skills to manage his physical and mental pain. One of those coping skills is to give back to the world. Paolo has since founded a not-for-profit, Concussions, Pain, and Mental Health Awareness (CPMHA) and has dedicated his final chapter to helping others who have also struggled with brain injuries and mental illness.
