Let's Speak It about where we are in this pandemic! Since Mother's Day and definitely after Memorial Day, I've found myself wondering if I missed a memo. Is the Pandemic over? Really! Is it? It's socially over, but what about medically. We are going to Speak It with Dr. Keidra Welch-Spencer. She currently practices at Iberia Medical Center Family Practice in New Iberia, Louisiana. Dr. Spencer is a board-certified family medicine specialist with a passion for patient advocacy and education. Her love for her community inspires her to diligently guide the next generation into their God-ordained positions just as the generation before shaped and molded her. This conversation made it very clear that COVID19 is not going anywhere anytime soon. It was full of sound medical advice for staying well and practicing safety during this time. She shared why black people are at risk for COVID. Dr. Spencer's bedside manner was refreshing. She could teach a class on doctor to patient communication based on the informative and simplistic way in which she educated our audience. I felt safer just from this conversation!

The conversation continues...Let's Speak IT with Jerry Wayne Curvey, who knows first hand what it's like to lose the ability to use his voice along with speech pathologists, Maurice Goodwin, CCC-SLP, and Kia Johnson, Ph.D., CCC-SLP. We take for granted the ability to speak and express our ideas or eat a meal safely until it’s gone. Speech-Language Pathologists & Audiologists work hard to help people of all ages, genders, cultures, nationalities, and ethnicities to share their stories and connect with the world around them. Whether we work in schools, private practice, academia, or medical setting, we are essential. We keep the conversation going! I often say- there's never a dull moment in my life, especially when I have clients who keep me laughing. Whoever said speech is boring, hasn't found the right fit for a therapist! Enjoy this wild and insightful conversation about overcoming speech and stuttering challenges. Listen until the end for a special surprise.
