Yall thought the SWUP crew was gonna sit around while the rest of the internet talks about their favorite albums of the decade? Nah, son. The homies chop it up and make an all-decade team. Speaking of the internet, some of yall say some crazy things. We introduce a new segment to the show called "Rollin/Not Rollin". Come kick it with ya homies!
First off, what are your classic hip hop album? We're not talking about the classics that everyone will agree is classic...What are your "fringe" classic albums. Let's get into it. Plus, we got the 3 pack of album reviews, including one genre-defining project from the doctor himself.
We somehow missed Adulting last episode, so we doubled-up on this episode. The boys get a little (too?) personal as we address some relationship hardships and potential scenarios. If you're too hard for that soft shit, no worries, we still hit our album reviews and have a bit of surprise with the SWUP pick of the week.
Feels good to be back and in the swing of things. Somehow, Yeezy semi-takes over our show, but we get back on track with some surprising takeaways from the BET Awards and of course we got the 4-piece album review. Check us out!
Maaaaaannnn...We celebrating our first full year of SWUP. We just kicking it...reminiscing on the year and watching football. Come chill wit ya boys!
The fellas work through some early technical/audio issues to bring another great epsiode to the Swup Crew. Recent Rapsody and Common releases get reviewed, but also lead the discussion about conscious rap. Also, find out about the finer things in life the homies like to indulge in and catch a first hand review of Made in America.
Long anticipated and after many requests, the SWUP crew finally give their individual Top 5 MC list, but of course, with a stipulation. But we also get into hip hop's "B" team, who really never get the shine they deserve. Ben of course takes us on some wild tangents and then we hit yall with some new release album reviews. BONG!
Serious question...When you wake up in the middle of the night to pee, do you turn on the light or shoot and hope? The SWUP crew gets together and gets into the grimy details peeing after dark. Oh, and we talk rap, of course. Rap crews, playlist shuffle game, and album reviews. Oh, and we briefly touch on these punk-ass top 50 rapper lists that had been circulating a week or so ago.
Ben and AP hold down the fort while the fellas are on vacay...they shoulda never let that happen. Very little editing and off the cuff, straight talk for a little bit. Check out this bonus track from the SWUP crew.
We ain't forget yall, Midwest. The homies set it off with ranking the two midwest elephants' discography and then talk about favorite albums from the midwest. A little #TM action in the adulting section and four very interesting albums reviewed.
Can't forget about the south! We had a short diversion from our conversation about the regional sounds of hip hop last show, but we're back on our grind to talk about The South. Also, it being June and all, the fellas get together to grade another XXL Freshman class. Dope hip hop conversation and Ben working out issues with his wallet all. SWUP Crew coming together like Voltron. Pause if necessary.
Welp...We intended to continue our regional hip hop conversation, this time discussing southern rap, but entertaining derailment forced us to exclude that segment. It's Wu-Tang, strip clubs, and album reviews for episode 17. Peep game.
So, what happens when 4 east coast guys try to discuss west coast rap? SWUP crew is back to discuss the sound of the west, specifically California. 4 album reviews and a lot of laughs...Or lack there of?
In the second part of the "Banana Leaf" episode, the Boom Bap conversation goes deeper into the current/relevant boom bap representatives. The guys also explore the area of male hygiene while we attempt to answer the age-old question of whether or not soap is self-cleansing and bar vs washcloth vs loufa. We conclude with three more album reviews of hip-hop's hottest and most compelling recent album drops.
After a long hiatus, the SWUP crew is back. We had a lot to talk about so for the first time, we have a 2-part episode. The conversation moves from last show's Trap Music conversation and it gets a little warm in the studio as the guys discuss what exactly defines the "Boom Bap" sound.
It's a roller-coaster of a show this week. We start off with a deep discussion about toxic masculinity as we all try to become better members of society and better partners in our relationships...Sorta. Then we get to the anticipated battle of the years, where the fellas discuss why their particular pre-chosen year is the best hip hop year of all time. Oh, and we finish up our conversation about trap music.
The guys start an interesting conversation about trap music...It's interesting because none of the guys particularly enjoys trap music, but check out the perspective from a few old rap fans.
What's the hip hop starting five for your city? The fellas get together to discuss the NYC starting five of all time s well as their own hip hop cities' starting five.
The homies got together on a Sunday afternoon and didn't disappoint. Festival season is right around the corner and the concert experience needs discussion. We also review the XXL Freshman Class from 10 years ago...Warning: It gets ugly.
The homies link up to chat about Valentine's Day, burgers, underwear preferences, and of course, the very best of hip hop.
The guys address the topic of content in hip hop songs and how significant (or insignificant) it actually is. Adulting chores are a chore, but even with kids to force labor, we still have things to do around the house. And of course we review some recent hip hip releases and a throwback review of Ja Rule's first album.
The SWUP squad kick off the year with some fun facts about themselves and then award the best music and musicians of 2018.
AP, Greg, Ill, and Marlon review Eminem's recent "12 Days of Diss-Mas" and then discuss their individual list of greatest producers of all time and then come together to create a SWUP GOAT producers list.
