This week on The Whiskey Trip, Big Chief sits down with Heather and Derek Latzel of Porchlight Distillery in Mason, Texas, one of the newest members of the Texas Whiskey Trail.   This episode isn't about finding a finished product. It's about remembering that everyone starts somewhere.   As the group shares pours of Porchlight's 95-proof Wheated Bourbon, they talk honestly about the challenges of building a craft distillery from the ground up. The whiskey is still young, but it already shows promising qualities and offers a glimpse of what's to come as the distillery continues to mature its craft.   For Big Chief, the visit comes full circle. As a teenager growing up in Central Texas, he made regular trips to Mason to sell Angora goat mohair before stopping at the old feed store to buy livestock feed for the ranch. Decades later, that same historic building has been transformed into Porchlight Distillery—a reminder that while buildings can change, the stories they hold never fade.   Heather and Derek share their journey of restoring a piece of Mason's history while pursuing their dream of creating Texas whiskey. Stage 3 of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift exploded into life with attacks from the opening kilometres. Lucinda Brand was among the first to go on the offensive before a powerful 10-rider breakaway formed featuring Lotte Kopecky, Liane Lippert, Lucinda Brand and several other big names. Kopecky later launched a solo attack with 76km remaining, but it was Norwegian champion Sigrid Haugset who held the race in her hands, leading the road and putting herself in contention for both the stage victory and the Yellow Jersey. On this episode, veteran Imagineer Joe Lanzisero returns to talk about an unrealized Muppets attraction he worked on for Disney-MGM Studios, now Disney's Hollywood Studios, at Walt Disney World Resort. The Muppets have had a presence at Disney's Hollywood Studios since the early days. Not only were they used in early marketing for the park, but they also had a stage show called "Here Come The Muppets". They later had a second stage show entitled "Muppets on Location: Days of Swine and Roses". The most successful Muppets attraction to exist at Disney's Hollywood Studios was Muppet*Vision 3D. That entire surrounding area was supposed to be its own Muppets land, but it never came to fruition for reasons Joe and I get into. The area was initally part of Streets of America, then renamed Muppets Courtyard, and eventually Grand Avenue. Soon it will become Monstropolis when the new "Monsters, Inc." land opens in what was supposed to be The Muppet Movie Studios.
