On a mountain road on Colorado's Guanella Pass, motorcyclist Adam Lamb spots a moose stepping out of the brush. Two seconds later, he's airborne, both arms broken and stranded off the road without cell service. Just behind him is Roger Matthews—a board-certified physician and search-and-rescue volunteer—who arrives and immediately begins managing the scene. In this episode, Adam recounts the moments leading up to the crash while Roger explains how he approached scene safety, organized bystanders, and assessed Adam's injuries as they waited for help to arrive. We explore wildlife hazards, speed and stopping distance, emergency braking, and why first aid training and preparation can make a critical difference when riding remote roads.
The Coaster Radio Listener Meetup is OFFICIALLY in the books, and it did not disappoint. Mike and EB take you inside their Sunday at SeaWorld Orlando for the 2026 meetup — Fantastic fans, 11 miles of walking, rain-soaked roller coasters, and a penguin habitat that was a brisk 28 degrees. (They were already wet. It was not fun.) Ride reviews include Manta, Penguin Trek, Kraken, Mako, Ice Breaker, Expedition Odyssey, and the one everyone was waiting for — Pipeline: The Surf Coaster, which may have just redefined what airtime even means. Plus: the guys sit down with Banks Lee from SeaWorld's marketing team for an exclusive interview that ends with a riveting riddle, a capitivating clue, and a nugget of breaking news that no one else has. Coaster royalty Taylor Bybee crashes the happy hour. And Bob the Lobster calls in from the deep. Most of us don't ride to get somewhere. We ride to get back to ourselves. But there's one thing that has a quiet way of stealing that feeling before you even throw a leg over the bike: the nagging question in the back of your mind. Did I take care of it? Is it ready? That question hits a little harder when you're planning a big adventure ride or loading up for a long weekend on the road. The last thing you want at mile 200 is to wish you'd checked something at mile zero.Derek Hildreth is a rider from Belgrade, Montana, who knows that feeling all too well. After one too many sessions scrolling through a mile-long notes app trying to piece together his maintenance history, he did what any self-respecting engineer would do. He built something better. That something is LookOver, a maintenance tracking app built for riders who take care of their own machines, whether that's an adventure bike, a cruiser, or anything else in the garage. But what struck me most in talking with Derek wasn't the app. It was the why behind it. Because at its core, LookOver exists to protect something we all come here to talk about: that mental space that riding gives you. When your machine is taken care of, you can stop thinking and start riding. Three words sum it up perfectly: Keep Riders Riding. We talk about Derek's origin story, how the app works, and why that quiet confidence of a well-maintained machine might be one of the most underrated parts of the riding experience. If this resonates, subscribe, share it with a rider in your life, and leave us a review. And tell us: what does your pre-ride ritual look like? Do you check the bike, or just trust it and go?Connect with Derek and LookOver:Website: https://lookover.appiOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/lookover-powersports/id6742913673Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookoverpowersports.appInstagram: https://instagram.com/lookover.appFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/lookoverappLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/lookover-app Tags: Mindfulness, Motorcycle riding, mindful motorcycling, motorcycle therapy, nature connection, peace on two wheels, Rocky Mountain tours, rider self-discovery, spiritual journey, motorcycle community, open road philosophy.

The engines are loud, the tent is louder. From a canvas floor pooling with rainwater to a sales board we feared wouldn't budge, our Daytona Bike Week run at the Cabbage Patch starts rough and gets real. We gambled big on a new location—higher rent, bigger crowd, more risk—and immediately collided with delayed shipments, an all-night print sprint, and an opening weekend of rain that drove us to shut early and regroup over pizza and live music with our guy, Daniel Johnson. What happens next is the reminder we needed. Community shows up. Sunday opens bright and the shop lights up, delivering our second biggest Daytona day ever. Monday doubles last year's Monday, and by nightfall our four-day total passes last year's five-day haul. We talk candidly about risk and resilience, why venue choice matters, and how to treat a long event like a portfolio: some days flop, others surge, and the win lives in the average you build by staying ready. We break down the gritty details—tent failures, “taco mattress” fixes, and the real math of chasing a dream on the road. You'll hear why we sponsor artists who lift the crowd, how repeat customers become family, and why “grow through it” isn't a slogan for us—it's the operating system. Ken Condon describes himself as a commuter, tourer, an off-road rider, a track-day instructor, road racer, an ice rider, a drag racer, and “plain old street rider.” Truth is, as wide-ranging as that description may sound, it barely scratches the surface of the many things Condon has done not just on a motorcycle but, more importantly, for his fellow motorcyclists. Ken is the author of two books, “Riding in the Zone” and “Motorcycling the Right Way.” The latter is a compilation of the “Proficient Motorcycling” columns published in Motorcycle Consumer News. “I wrote that column for 14 years—2,800 words, plus photos, every month,” he tells “Driven to Ride” host Mark Long. Condon also penned “Street Strategies” for the same title. That's to say Condon has devoted most of his life to not only becoming a better rider himself but to helping others become better riders. “‘The well is very deep' is what I tell my students,” he says. “You can choose to swim on the surface and tread water, or you can dive deep and get down there and see what it's all about. And there's an awful lot there. It just goes, and goes, and goes.” Riding In The Zone Website Ken Condon on Facebook Connect with Us:Website: www.driventoridepodcast.comInstagram: www.Instagram.com/driventoridepodcastFacebook: www.facebook.com/driventorideEmail:hello@driventoridepodcast.com

This week on The Whiskey Trip Podcast, Big Chief takes listeners for a ride to Bryan, Texas to sit down with Caleb Clanton, founder and distillery manager of Hush & Whisper Distilling Company. What makes this episode stand out isn't just the whiskey, it's the building itself. Hush & Whisper operates inside a restored old JCPenney building in historic downtown Bryan, and the space carries serious Art Deco character. Clean geometric lines, bold architectural details, tall ceilings, and the kind of craftsmanship you just don't see in modern construction. The bones of that building tell a story. Thick walls, hidden rooms tucked behind unexpected doors, a penthouse, and even a rooftop dance floor from decades past. It's history layered into every inch of the structure. It feels industrial, elegant, and gritty all at the same time. That presence matters. The atmosphere rivals distilleries anywhere in the world. Scotland has its stone dunnage warehouses. Kentucky has its rolling rickhouses. Japan has its minimalist precision. Bryan, Texas has a restored Art Deco landmark filled with working stills and aging barrels. You can't fake authenticity like that. It's earned over time. They open the episode with Hush & Whisper's rye whiskey, bold, spice forward, structured, and balanced. Caleb talks about how Texas heat works those barrels differently and how managing that environment inside a historic building takes awareness and patience. The rye shows backbone without losing refinement. From there, they pour a single barrel of that rye. No blending. No smoothing edges. Just one barrel telling its own story. The oak pushes harder, the spice sharpens, and the individuality shines through. Caleb explains how barrel placement inside the building influences maturation and why single barrels are the truest expression of what they do. In the second half, they taste a rye bourbon that isn't quite ready yet. It's honest, developing, full of potential, but not rushed. Caleb speaks candidly about discipline in a market that often pressures distillers to release early. Time is the one ingredient you cannot shortcut, especially in Texas. They close with their gin, clean, botanical forward, and intentional. It proves that the craftsmanship happening inside those Art Deco walls isn't limited to brown spirits. Balance, precision, and confidence carry across the entire lineup. An old department store turned distillery. Secret rooms. Art Deco architecture. Texas heat shaping barrels inside historic walls. Hush & Whisper stands shoulder to shoulder with distilleries around the world, not because it tries to copy them, but because it leans fully into what it is. Pour a glass and Take the Ride.
Send a textSmoke curls over the Kansas plains as a newborn railhead meets a river of longhorns and the town of Newton explodes into life. We follow the ATSF's breakneck push toward land grants, Boston capital's cold calculations, and the way a 300-foot stockyard turned steers into hard cash while turning streets into a pressure cooker. Along the boardwalks and within twenty-seven saloons, gamblers, speculators, and trailworn drovers create a marketplace where whiskey, pharaoh, and risk drive the night. We unpack the deeper collision shaping 1871: the industrial North's telegraphs, timetables, and municipal bonds grinding against the open-range economy of the defeated South. For Texans limping home from Reconstruction, the Chisholm Trail promised redemption at thirty dollars a head; for Kansans investing in wheat and churches, that same promise arrived coated in dust and danger. Through Judge R. W. P. Mews' accounts, Joseph McCoy's logistics, and the Gold Room's bright lure, we map how Newton's soul split between extraction and settlement—and why the ledger would be settled in blood.Beneath the hoofbeats lies a quieter villain: Texas fever, the tick-borne disease that spared longhorns but slaughtered local shorthorns. As herds grazed the blue stem, parasites spread, farms withered, and quarantine lines appeared on paper while law leaked away at dusk. The result is a city under siege, where farmers shoulder shotguns, drovers clutch Colts, and a teenage cowboy named James Riley carries frail lungs and fierce loyalties into a fate none can escape. This is the prelude to Bloody Newton, where progress, public health, and pride intersect with catastrophic force.Ride with us into the heart of the Kansas frontier. What if I told you that there is a mathematical formula that separates those brands that scale really quickly and those brands that just tick along nicely? Well, there is one. I wish I had found out about it 25 years ago, but today the guest that we've got on the show (all the way from the USA) has studied this IN DETAIL, and comes on the show today to help YOU learn all about it.***If you like this episode and learn from it, PLEASE share it with a fellow founder or colleague, subsrcibe or folllow the show, and leave a review - it makes a real difference to us at Brand Growth Heroes**Dr James Richardson, author of 'Ramping Your Brand - How to Ride the Killer CPG Growth Curve', unpicks this maths for the first time, giving you the formula to help your brand scale like the enormous skate ramp brands in the USA.Ramping Your Brand (2nd Edition) - Dr. James Richardson's book on scaling premium CPG brands Dr. Richardson has lowered the price of the UK paperback from £18 to £9.99 until March 10What You'll Learn in This EpisodeThe Premium Pricing Trap - Why founders face unit economics that are 10-15x worse than big CPG companies (and why you can't avoid it)The 6-10% RoS Rule - The specific monthly growth rate in same-store sales that creates exponential "skate ramp" growthThe Heavy User Strategy - Why your first $10-25M requires a completely different customer acquisition approach than Byron Sharp's mass market playbookDistribution vs. Velocity - How to layer exponential velocity growth on top of linear distribution expansionThe Founder Evolution Journey - The #1 reason investors take over brands (and it's not what you think)Early Fan Research - How to identify and replicate your "Gonzo fans" without spending a fortune on market researchThe Danger of Slow Growth - Why growing too slowly can be just as fatal as not growing at all when you're undercapitalisedUseful LinksConnect with Dr James Richardson on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/premiumgrowthsolutions/Ramping Your Brand (2nd Edition) - Dr. James Richardson's book on scaling premium CPG brands Dr. Richardson has lowered the price of the UK paperback from £18 to £9.99 until March 10Website: https://www.premiumgrowthsolutions.com/Podcast: Startup Confidential (available on YouTube, Apple, Spotify)============================================================Thanks to Brand Growth Heroes' podcast sponsor - Joelson, the commercial law firm=============================================================If you're a founder, you already know how much of your energy goes into building the perfect product, creating standout branding and connecting with your consumers. But don't forget that scaling a CPG business also comes with a maze of legal complexities that can make or break your business journey. There are moments in surfing that redefine a career. And then there are moments that redefine what is possible. Michaela Fregonese has just claimed Ride of the Year and Biggest Wave at the SURFER Big Wave Challenge Awards, a monumental achievement that places her among the elite of big wave surfing worldwide. Two of the most prestigious honors in the sport. One surfer. One fearless commitment. In this powerful new episode of The Temple of Surf Podcast, we sit down with Michaela to unpack what it truly took to earn this title. Because awards are the surface of the story. Beneath them lies years of preparation, wipeouts, discipline, and the relentless pursuit of heavier conditions. As an Italo-Brazilian athlete, Michaela carries a rare blend of passion and precision. Brazil fuels her fire. Italy anchors her mindset. Together, they shape a competitor who remains composed when the ocean transforms into moving mountains. We talk about the wave itself, the size, the speed, the commitment. What does it feel like to paddle into a wall of water that most people would not even consider? What happens internally in the final seconds before takeoff? In big wave surfing, there is no room for doubt. There is only training, instinct, and trust. Winning Ride of the Year is about execution. Winning Biggest Wave is about courage. Winning both is about mastery. This episode dives deep into her preparation routines, breath work, physical conditioning, and the psychology required to operate in extreme environments. Michaela shares the unseen side of big wave surfing, the teamwork behind jet skis, the safety protocols, the mental recalibration after heavy wipeouts. Because glory in the ocean is built on structure and respect. We also speak about what this recognition means for women in big wave surfing. The ceiling continues to rise. The waves do not discriminate. Performance speaks. And Michaela's performance spoke loudly enough to echo through the global surf community. For the Temple of Surf audience, this is more than a celebration episode. It is a study in resilience. It is a reminder that fear can be transformed into focus. That preparation turns chaos into opportunity. That when the horizon darkens and the swell stands tall, the difference between watching and committing defines everything. Michaela Fregonese did not just ride a wave. She rode a moment that will stay in surf history.

Nasiru Ibrahim — an architect from Nigeria and a new adventure rider — sets out on his first true motorcycle journey with a simple idea: ride his Yamaha Ténéré to the Ténéré Desert. It's an ambitious first trip, fueled by equal parts curiosity and confidence. Heading north through regions where the language and culture feel familiar, he anticipates the usual challenges — long distances, fatigue, border crossings, and the uncertainties of travelling solo. Instead, a routine stop in a small desert town leads to his arrest and detention in a politically tense region. What follows is a two-week ordeal far from home, as he navigates uncertainty, bureaucracy, and the stark realization of how quickly an adventure can take an unexpected turn.
