Feminae: https://inpress.lib.uiowa.edu/feminae/ Joe and Me: http://landscapelibrarian.com/the-library-and-joe Welcome to the Haverford Life podcast, this is Logan Chin. Today I am speaking with the head research Librarian here at Haverford, Margaret Schaus. Margaret has been a staple part of the Haverford community for the past 32 years, and the discussion we had was fascinating. I think it's easy to think that the job of a librarian solely consists of arranging and organizing books, but, after this discussion, it's apparent that it is actually much more than that. - We talked about a multitude of things, namely - Her experience as an undergraduate student and University of Urbana Champlaign, where she majored in medieval studies - Her specialty of study, gender and sexuality during the medieval period - Her transition from Academia into Library work, more formally called information science - What being a librarian consists of, which is suprisingly interesting and, even had me consider being a librarian - The digitization of libraries and the change of library culture - Her Open access index, Feminae, which, if you listen to the conversation, you will learn how she singlehandedly maintains a sprawling index of various primary and secondary sources pertaining to a pretty niche field. - The unique nature of Lutnick Library, and the Unique nature of McGill Library,

Hello, and welcome to the the Haverford Life Podcast, the pod that seeks the stories and experiences of the people that make up Haverford College. So why have I, Logan Chin, created this podcast? After one short semester at Haverford, it has become apparent to me that many students are unaware of the crucial jobs that keep the college running. The hard work of - for example - deans, DC workers, faculty, managers, librarians and maintenance workers largely go unnoticed, yet, without these people, there would be no Haverford College. The Life Podcast aims to bridge this gap of understanding. Through a 30-40 minute long-form discussion, the guest may discuss any particular aspect of their job. Listeners will not only gain a deeper appreciation for the employees of Haverford, but will also come away with a new understanding of how Haverford's ethos of hard work and honor is manifest in everyone affiliated with the college. Although the focus of the podcast centers around the guest's current responsibilities on campus, the guest is also given free rein to engage in conversation about anything they like: ideas, stories, thoughts, inquiries etc. The overarching goal of the podcast is to teach the listener something new about the world. Students (the target demographic of the podcast) are curious by nature. We live in a bubble, where classes and resources shield us from the realities of everyday life.
