In this episode, Dr. Paulie chats with Dr. Carl Binder about the use of Applied Behavior Analysis and Organizational Behavior Management for making a positive difference in schools.  Dr. Carl Binder began as a doctoral student in Experimental Psychology, attending Harvard University at the invitation of B.F. Skinner, whose writings had inspired him deeply. With an interest in making a societal contribution, he rapidly shifted from basic research to real-world application of behavior science, first developing innovative instructional methods and teacher training for educators, and later contributing to the emerging field of human performance technology in large organizations.  With input from many extraordinary teachers and colleagues, Carl has spent over 40 years bringing his enthusiasm for behavior science into corporations, schools, and public organizations worldwide.  Founder of four consulting firms, recipient of career awards from the American Psychological Association,  the International Society for Performance Improvement, and the Organizational Behavior Management Network, prolific author and speaker, Carl believes that the Performance Thinking Network is his best opportunity yet for making a contribution.  His ability to synthesize information from multiple fields, communicate complex ideas in plain English to non-specialists, and build excitement about making a difference with behavior science brings an intellectual and emotional spark-plug to The Performance Thinking Network.Carl was recently awarded the Thomas F. Gilbert Distinguished Professional Achievement AwardIf you are interested in learning from Dr. Binder, check out his Performance Thinking Summer Institute where you'll have the opportunity to learn about leadership, management, systems, and leveraging the science of human behavior to produce important results while making a positive difference in any workplace.

Our guest is Anna Binder, Head of People at Asana. We go back to the earliest days when Anna first took on the role, starting with how she prioritized the initial things to tackle as a new People exec and combing through a slew of opinions that bubbled up from other folks at the company.  Next, she shares her tactical playbook for creating a culture of feedback for not just low-performers, but high-performers, too. Anna also unpacks her methodology of conscious leadership, and how the best leaders always interrogate how the opposite might be true. She shares her insights from working on Asana's executive team for nearly 7 years, and how to build habits to make sure this group is a healthy nucleus at the center of the company.  We end with a rapid-fire round, with some quick hits tackling onboarding, all-hands meetings, and mentors.  You can follow Anna on Twitter @annaebinder. Emma hosts Adrian Hon, game designer and CEO of Six to Start, to discuss his recent book You've Been Played: How Corporations, Governments, and Schools Use Games to Control Us All. Then, she is joined by Alex Sammon, politics writer at Slate, to discuss the recent controversy surrounding New York Governor Kathy Hochul's nomination of Judge Hector LaSalle to New York's highest court.  Emma begins by running through updates on the debt ceiling's summer showdown, election deniers overtaking the house oversight committee, and Hochul's Chief Judgeship nomination failing to make it through the state senate judiciary committee, before diving into Joe Manchin's recent appearance at the Davos economic forum as he calls out the debt ceiling while completely ignoring the biggest counterweight to government spending (taxes). Adrian Hon then joins as he dives into what “gamification” entails, with the application of game design in non-game circumstances, be it in education, fitness, labor, or whatever, creating a hyper-monitored system of achievements and failure. Parsing through the impact of the “gamification” of the world of labor, Adrian and Emma walk through the major changes we've seen alongside it, including an increased level of surveillance and performance feedback coming in the form of intra-workplace competition, and how this allows employers to set up unachievable “goals” for employees to push their labor while avoiding appropriate compensation. After a brief conversation on the relationship between the “gamification” of labor and the gig economy, Hon walks through the evolution of apps in the 2000s and early 2010s that opened up society so fully to gamification, emphasizing arbitrary achievements as proof of value in a perversion of the already corrupt meritocracy we supposedly live it. They wrap up the interview by focusing on a specific realm of “gamified” labor in the trucking industry, as they analyze how gamification and decades of dwindling labor leverage reinforced the increasing insecurity and decreasing solidarity in the workplace, and explore why these arbitrary systems of tracking achievement don't serve to increase the effectiveness of the institution it's serving. Alex Sammon and Emma then dive deep into the story behind Gov. Kathy Hochul's floundering nomination for Chief Judge of the NY Court of Appeals, walking through how he came to be her first choice, why there was immediate pushback to such a selection, and how Hochul could possibly have seen this as an important fight when it undermines not only her constituents but her own party, before wrapping up with an assessment of Hakeem Jeffries hopping on Hochul's bandwagon despite this court being the very reason his party lost control of the House. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they tackle the release of a gritty retake of our favorite perceptive posse in “Velma,” and Binder gives his absurd take on the rankings of animation houses. They also tackle the issues with AI algorithms (and where they could actually help), discuss Tucker's newest guest of MLK's extended family, and talk with Alex from NY. Candace Owens shares her feelings on therapy (interesting, no facts involved), for some reason the crew discusses NFTs in 2023, and Kowalski calls in with his fun-half takes. They also run through updates on George Santos' absurdly villainous origin story, plus, your calls and IMs! Emma is back for her first Thursday show of 2023! She hosts Neil Vallelly, researcher at the University of Otago in New Zealand, to discuss his book Futilitarianism: Neoliberalism and the Production of Uselessness. First, Emma runs through updates on a second set of classified documents being found at Biden's Wilmington home, House GOP introducing two anti-abortion bills, Kevin McCarthy's quid pro quo to obtain the speakership, the NYC Nurses' strike reaching a tentative agreement after three days, and Barbara Lee's potential run for Senate in Dianne Feinstein's seat, before Emma parses through updates on Israel's apartheid expansion as Bibi Netanyahu's far-right coalition comes into power, and Rashida Tlaib's statements on the House floor. Neil Vallelly then joins as he dives right into the inspiration for his book coming out of direct exposure to budget slashes at University, and the impacts they have in driving students into specific realms of study more suited to capitalist endeavors, exploring how the humanities and social sciences are painted as indulgent and useless for occasionally challenging capitalism rather than seeking to serve it. This brings Professor Vallelly to the topic of how different things get constructed as “useless” in our world, following how the emphasis on utility in education came alongside a shift towards privatized and debt-driven universities, thus requiring students to shape their own educational path alongside the universities' economic projects. Next, Neil steps back as he traces the path from Jeremy Bentham's theories of utilitarianism to contemporary neoliberalism, first exploring how he came to view money as the objective quantifier of utility, justifying the growing capital accumulation in the world and the growing economic theories of the time, with even the anti-utilitarian theories of the 20th Century, namely Keynesian and Hayekian economics, grounding themselves in this concept of maximizing happiness (whether for the masses or individuals). After tackling how the Friedman-Hayek form of anti-utilitarian utilitarianism won out over New Deal economics, Neil and Emma explore neoliberalism's separation of the market from “democracy, the greater relationship between enfranchisement and utility, and how nihilism can help us analyze it, before wrapping up by walking through more specific examples of utilitarianism's impact on neoliberal policy. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as Matt discusses his time at the CES Tech Conference, and they talk with Bro Flamingo on the NFL and punitive measures against political coups. They also cover updates on Matt Schlapp's alleged sexual assault, Prince Harry on the relationship between his family and his family jewels, and the Daily Wire's flunking filmmaking endeavor and the celebs they're taking down with them. Tony from San Jose calls in to parse through the potential Saudi acquisition of the WWE, with Binder filling in many of the gaps of what led up to this, plus, your calls and IMs! It's Casual Friday! Emma hosts Ryan Grim, DC Bureau Chief at The Intercept, to discuss the Intercept's coverage of the White House pressuring Sen. Bernie Sanders to not introduce a war powers resolution on the conflict in Yemen. Then, Emma's joined by Lance of The Serfs TV to discuss their recent publication of old Matt Walsh clips, as well as the "Twitter Files." And, Emma is joined again by MR's own Matt Binder to discuss his recent unceremonious Twitter ban at the hands of Elon Musk! First, Emma runs through updates on Congress' spending bill, another 45-billion dollar increase to the Military budget, and Starbucks Workers United launching their biggest labor action yet. Ryan Grim then joins as he and Emma dive right into the recent drama behind Senator Bernie Sanders' war powers resolution, tackling why he delayed introducing it with the recent focus on labor issues, the impetus behind launching this effort after the vague success of his war powers resolution under Trump, and how he learned of Biden's White House campaigning against him. Next, Ryan dives into what the vetoed war powers resolution under Trump actually accomplished, walking through its restriction of over 90% of US support for the war in Yemen, and the recent ceasefire in the region starting in October. Expanding on this, Grim and Emma explore why the White House saw this war powers resolution as a threat to their preferred relationship with Saudi Arabia, seeing the final ~10% of support surrounding the US' aid of maintaining infrastructure as necessary to keep Saudi oil fields functioning, before wrapping up the subject by parsing through the history of MBS' war in Yemen and exploring the role it plays in relation to Russia' current invasion of Ukraine. They conclude the interview by diving into the PRESS Act that is being introduced to Congress, the conservative pushback from folks like Tom Cotton, and why it's going to be difficult for them to frame this issue negatively. Lance from the Serfs TV then joins as he talks #FreeBinder, walks through yesterday's ElonJet fiasco on Twitter, and explores Elon's authoritarian action drawing critique even from the least respectable of the Free-Speech™ journalism crew, before tackling Lance's research into Matt Walsh's history of being a small-scale theocratic creep. Finally, friend of the show Matt Binder joins as he walks through his perspective on Twitter's crackdown on any Musk-related journalism, the absurdity of banning people on a policy that doesn't exist yet, and the ridiculous nature of Elon unilaterally employing the exact tactics he was critiquing in his “Twitter Files.” And in the Fun Half: Emma and the MR Crew discuss ESVN talking points, the debate on Puerto Rican statehood, and watch Obama-era Crowder do his best Bigoted Philip DeFranco impression. Play Episode Listen Later Dec 1, 2022 74:49

Emma hosts, Beatrice Adler-Bolton, co-host of the Death Panel podcast, to discuss her recent book Health Communism, co-authored with Artie Vierkant. First, Emma runs through updates on the US defense budget, the freight rail contract vote heading to the Senate, DC announcing a shift to free bus transport, South Africa facing its first presidential impeachment, and why progressives would ever force a contract on workers, before diving deeper into the far right's unsurprising push against freight railers. Then Beatrice Adler-Bolton joins as she dives right into using the recent bargaining between freight railers and the regional monopolies they work for to paint a picture of how health and healthcare are used in the US – with even the existence of sick days being employed as a benefit or commodity, forcing workers' health to fit in with the needs and desires of corporations and the private insurance agencies they work with. Zooming out, Emma and Beatrice then tackle the importance of understanding the value of health finance reform, while understanding that a much larger change is necessary to truly detach health from its hyper-individualized and commodified treatment under capitalism, with policies like Medicare for All certainly providing material benefits, but not actually changing how we relate to central resources like space and education. Next, Adler-Bolton dives into why health and health care are capitalism's main vulnerability, particularly in its refusal to acknowledge and address greater systemic issues that affect us as a society rather than individuals, and its insistence on manufacturing scarcity, two qualities that don't mix well with public health, exploring how even in the societies we recognize for their socialized healthcare (Scandinavia, England, etc), their commitment to capitalism actively undermines the power of this care. Wrapping up the interview, they explore the necessity of solidarity and an intersectional perspective in actually addressing public health issues beyond an isolated individual. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Brandon Sutton and Matt Binder as they dive into Binder's recent crusade against the right-wing “Okay Groomer” brigade that somehow keeps being connected to groomers themselves, Sam Bankman-Fried's recent (accidental) reveal that he's one of the biggest GOP donors in secret, and Alex Jones' meeting with Kanye and Nick Fuentes. The Murder Police Podcast is a hobby for Wendy and David; a chance to speak with feeling about homicide investigations, the curiosity they draw and lift victims of violent crime up to be remembered with respect, as more that a Uniform Crime Reporting number or statistic. One goal from the beginning was that if the podcast ever generated any revenue, large or small, charitable giving would be a must. With the opening of a merch and store on the horizon in 2022, it was time. The Murder Police Podcast Focus Group, “The Squad”, was asked for suggestions for charities that had a broad reach helping victims of violent crime and their families. The Squad came through with many great suggestions with one standing out: The DNA Doe Project.  Our decision was cinched up with our interview with Sgt. ‘Cat' Catalano with the Santa Clara Sheriff's Office in California, as she detailed the identification of Patricia Skiple in April 2022.  Patricia was an unidentified victim of the Happy Face serial killer and went 30 years without a name, though her killer was convicted of her murder. The DNA Doe project is a non-profit organization focusing on the identification of human remains.  They work with law enforcement agencies to make specialized DNA sampling and testing and research to bring answers to family members and move cases forward. The DNA Doe project can be assisted through donation and or volunteering (imagine working a case and finding answers!).  And a huge help is to upload your DNA test results to GEDMatch or Family Tree DNA to add to the database and improve the likelihood of identifying people.Take a listen to this episode and hear Carienn Binder, the Director of the Director of Education and Development at DNA Doe Project, talk about the project and how we all can help.Learn more about the DNA Doe Project.Shop for Murder Police Podcast swag by clicking HERE today! 10% of ALL swag and merch proceeds are donated to the DNA Doe Project.

Emma hosts Dan Bouk, associate professor of history at Colgate University, to discuss his recent book Democracy's Data: The Hidden Stories in the U.S. Census and How to Read Them. Then, Emma's joined by Akela Lacy, politics reporter for The Intercept, to discuss her recent reporting on the Pennsylvania State Legislature's attempts to impeach Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner. Emma begins by running through updates on the Fed's continued interest rate hikes, Democratic pessimism as we approach the midterms, and the upholding of Brittney Griner's sentence in Russia, before diving deeper into the second pressured-abortion allegation against Herschel Walker as well as his recent appearance alongside Lindsey Graham. Professor Dan Bouk then joins, getting right into the central importance of the US Census in the delegation of power across the various branches and levels of federalism, with its inception in the first article of the US Constitution. Bouk then walks through the state of the Census bureau over the first century of the American experiment, with this mass mobilization driven by US Marshals organizing law enforcement to get people out for the count, with the infrastructure of the bureau slowly growing through the early 1900s – becoming an institution made up of hundreds of thousands of workers. Emma and Dan then explore how this massive bloat of the bureau brought forwards greater scholarly work (even within the bureau) on the failures of the census methodology, with a segregated office of Black census workers first revealing the mass undercount of various marginalized communities – including Black and brown folks, immigrants, those in poverty and without housing, and more. Next, Professor Bouk walks through the various factors that push this miscount in the census, and how these factors developed over the 20th Century, with certain aspects (like having representatives that actually want to count you, living in a house, etc) continuing to present an issue, while new ones (being part of a racial group being put in internment camps, having an atypical family structure) arose alongside developing social issues. Emma is then joined by Akela Lacy as they dive right into the 5-year campaign by the Pennsylvania GOP against DA Larry Krasner, taking up the mantle of other state-level GOP impeachment attempts by pushing rhetoric on Krasner's failure to address violent crime while simultaneously undermining his actual ability to act as state DA. They wrap up the interview by tackling the specific relationship between DA Krasner and PA Attorney General Josh Shapiro, and the short-term benefits and long-term costs of meeting the GOP in the middle on tough-on-crime policy. Emma also touches on the LA mayoral election between Rick Caruso and Karen Bass, and why a progressive movement behind billionaire real estate tycoon Caruso would be a mistake. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Matt Binder and Brandon Sutton as they chat with Ben from Virginia on relating to conservative family members, be they 9-month-old AnCaps or 90-year-old theocratic fascists, before diving into the recent coverage of the Dr. Oz v. Fetterman race in PA. Candace Owens continues her bit about Hitler's trans-inclusive regime (he included them in his extermination plans, and that's about it), and Owen from LA talks about Kanye and anti-semitism. Binder parses through his recent investigation into a poorly-hidden Jimmy Dore sockpuppet account, and Ryan from NC discusses voting for school boards, plus, your calls and IMs! On today's Breitbart News Daily podcast, we open with some political and economic updates, plus we evaluate how the media is handling the likelihood of a "red wave." Also, Pres. Joe Biden spent the weekend lying, sniffing, and eating ice cream while you lost money out of your 401(k). We then spend a fair bit of time on Kanye West going on yet another anti-Jewish diatribe. It is long past time we raise our standards and stop making excuses for people who say horrible stuff just because we think they are in our tribe or we want them in our tribe. In other news, we moved a little bit closer to nuclear war. We still probably won't get there, but people wrist-flicking this possibility is making us at the show increasingly uncomfortable. Plus, a lot more before we speak to John Binder, our reporter at Breitbart News who covers fashion, immigration, and now crime. We get his take on Kanye West's galoshes, u-visa abuse, and inner-city crime waves. Now that's some range!

MY  RATING SCORE 5/5 BEERS. First Time you saw the movie?  Plot:In the late 19th century, the demonic troll Trantor transforms children into wooden dolls to feast upon their energy in Briarville, Missouri. The townsfolk capture him and seal him under an oak tree, with Phineas Worrell, one of the village elders and an ancestor of Ernest P. Worrell, establishing the seal. Trantor vengefully places a curse on the Worrell family, stating that he can only be released on the night before Halloween by a Worrell. As part of the curse, every generation of Worrells will get "dumber and dumber and dumber", until the dumbest member of the family is foolish enough to release him from his earthly prison. One hundred years later, Ernest, a sanitation worker, helps a few of his middle school friends, Kenny Binder, Elizabeth and Joey, construct a treehouse in the same tree that unknowingly contains the dormant creature, after the mayor's sons demolished their own cardboard haunted house. When Old Lady Hackmore discovers this, she angrily leaves. Following her, Ernest learns the story of Trantor and idiotically reports it to the kids. Inadvertently, Ernest releases the troll. Joey is walking home from the treehouse when he hears something rustling through the trees. Joey slowly walks and slips down in a muddy hole. Trantor grabs Joey's wrist and turns him into a wooden doll. Ernest finds Kenny's dad, Sheriff Cliff Binder, and explains the situation but Binder does not believe him. After none of the townsfolk will assist Ernest because of the upcoming Halloween party, he mounts a one-man (and one-dog) defense operation in preparation for Trantor's appearance. Meanwhile, Trantor captures a boy on a skateboard as his second victim. Tom and Bobby Tulip, hoping to exploit Ernest, sell him various fake troll traps, but one backfires on the mayor's sons and Ernest loses his job. Ernest, Kenny and Elizabeth return to Hackmore, where they learn that only "the heart of a child, and a mother's care" can defeat the troll. Later that night, Trantor claims Elizabeth as his third victim as he sneaks into her house while she is resting on her bed. While Kenny and his friend Gregg are walking, Trantor uses Elizabeth's voice to lure Kenny away, then takes Gregg as a fourth victim. Despite parents being upset at their missing children, Mayor Murdock and Sheriff Binder still proceed with a Halloween party at the school, believing the missing children will be there. Trantor appears there and takes the mayor's oldest son as his fifth and final wooden doll. In the ensuing fight between Trantor and Ernest, Trantor turns Ernest's dog Rimshot into a wooden doll before being repelled by soft-serve ice cream on Ernest's hands. Kenny realizes that "mother's care" refers to milk and rallies a troll-fighting team to destroy them. Back at the treehouse, Trantor successfully summons his army of trolls while Ernest unsuccessfully tries to stop them. The townspeople show up, only for the trolls to overwhelm and beat them up. Kenny and his friends arrive and begin destroying the trolls with milk. During the fight, Trantor escapes beneath the tree where he summons the powers of the underworld, making him invincible, especially to milk. Enraged, Kenny unsuccessfully tries to destroy Trantor, who also turns Kenny into a doll. With the other townsfolk now backing him up and telling him to douse Trantor in milk, Ernest realizes that milk weakened the troll children, while unconditional love ("the heart of a child") would weaken Trantor himself. He takes Trantor and dances with him while the mob watches, overloading him with love, and finally kisses his snot-ridden nose, causing Trantor to explode. With Trantor's destruction, Ernest is proclaimed a hero. All of the wooden dolls are restored, including those from the early 19th century, and life returns to normal. Sheriff Binder apologizes to his son for doubting him and Ernest. Ernest is happy that his dog is also back to normal.  TOP 5The pizzas seen being thrown at the bullies who try to attack the kids' tree house are re-used props from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991). Both movies had the same prop master, Doug White. The Chiodo Brothers are credited with special effects for this film, who also made Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988). Look for trolls in the finale that resemble Klowns, as well as the same spinning death effect. The Chiodos actually didn't save any of the original Klown molds. Though they may have used some ears molds. John Cherry's troll designs just happened to look a lot like the Klowns. In the opening credits (specifically around the 00:01:16 mark), there is a quick flash of a random man. He is Robert Hill, Jr., one of the grips. His son was in the film as a child extra. In the original script for "Ernest Scared Stupid", the villain wasn't a troll, it was actually a haunted statue. The original script had a lot of the flavor of "Scared Stupid" though. But there were no trolls; there was one statue that came to life - it was some terrible person who came back from the dead. John Cherry and Coke Sams went to Disney with that script. They both felt that it was the best thing they've ever written and that they knew what Disney wanted. But, Disney read it and their exact response was, "What were you guys smoking when you wrote this?" They added, "We want a haunted tree house." So John and Coke dismembered anything they could salvage from the original "Scared Stupid" script and cranked it into the next one.Creature effects creator Charles Chiodo designed "Trantor" the troll using fourteen motors to operate various facial features. His teeth were fabricated from dental acrylic, his skin was "baked foam," and each eyebrow hair was inserted individually. The trolls were designed with two noses that dripped synthetic mucus, concocted from methyl cellulose, personal lubricant, and an unnamed "vegetable agent" that caused it to spoil quickly. A thicker version of the substance was used as troll saliva. **TRIPLE LINDY AWARD** **REVIEW AND RATING**TreyChris 4Stephen 4.5Tucker 4.5 TOP 5Stephen:1 Breakfast club2 T23 Sandlot4 Color out of space5 Mail order brides Chris:1. sandlots2. The Majority Report with Sam Seder

Emma hosts State Senator Chloe Maxmin of Maine's 13th District and political activist Canyon Woodward to discuss their recent book Dirt Road Revival: How to Rebuild Rural Politics and Why Our Future Depends On It. Then, Emma is joined by Ruth Ben-Ghiat, professor of history and Italian studies at New York University, to discuss the recent Italian election results and what they mean for Europe and the rest of the world. First, Emma runs through updates on Hurricane Ian's path of devastation, Schumer's Continuing Resolution, the White House finally waiving the Jones Act, the DoD joining the DHS and Secret Service in covering up 1/6 texts, and more, before diving into Ron DeSantis' comments on ANOTHER “once in a century” disaster hitting Florida. Then, she's joined by Senator Chloe Maxim and Canyon Woodward as they dive into their roots in rural organizing, with Maxim growing up in Maine and Woodward in North Carolina, and meeting during the inception of the Fossil Fuel Divestment Movement at Harvard, moving from there to running Maxim's progressive campaigns (first for Maine Statehouse then State Senate) with a focus on grassroots rural organizing. Maxim and Woodward then dive into the tactics that grounded their victories in Maine, with a focus on tailoring their discussions and policy focuses to the interest of the community they were representing, including having strong disagreements with her constituents and working to understand where it comes from, and grounding her programs (such as establishing a Green New Deal for Maine) in the tackling the anxieties and pressures that most concern them (farming, fishing infrastructure, etc). Wrapping up, they tackle how the Democrats lost their foothold on rural voters over the last three decades, with complete disinvestment from the communities, and Democratic leadership (particularly in the wake of the 2010 midterms) shifting any electoral focus to exclusively urban and suburban areas, and exploring what we can learn about Maine (and Maine's rural voters) from Sarah Giddeon's loss to Susan Collins. Ruth Ben-Ghiat and Emma then tackle the rise of Giorgia Meloni through Italy's fascist remnants in the 20th Century and to the top of the new Alt-Right neofascist party Fratelli d'Italia. They tackle the difference between her politics and that of other Italian far-right parties such as La Lega and Forza Italia, Meloni's history of anti-Semitic neonazi conspiracy theory, and the greater hyper-nationalist yet transnational movement of the far right today, where Meloni sees the GOP as central to the project. They also explore where Meloni's reign is likely to go next, and what institutional elements of Italian politics can do to fight back. And in the Fun Half: Emma is joined by Matt and Binder as they tackle the Right Wing reaction to Meloni's victory, with Jimmy Dore aligning himself with Hillary Clinton and Dave Rubin attempting to put the rise of fascism at the feet of queer people, exploring the uniting features of fascism and the GOP that are preoccupation with (white) community “decline” and an obsession with victimhood. In keeping with right-wing-reactionary insanity, they also touch on reactions from Ben Shaprio and Pedro Gonzalez to Lizzo's humiliation of the founding fathers by… playing the flute. Special guest host Matt Binder is joined by cultural theorist Catherine Liu to discuss her recent book, “Virtue Hoarders: The Case against the Professional Managerial Class.” First, Matt walks through updates on Libs of Tik Tok's first official ban (from Meta of all places), chicken wing prices reaching a four-year low, and Mike Pence's response to being asked about testifying for the January 6th committee. Then, Catherine Liu joins as she gets right into helping define what the Professional Managerial Class (PMC) is, their role in executing the bosses' orders and managing our social institutions, and how they came to take the mantle of liberal vanguardists, dominating the ideology of the democratic party over their blue-collar counterparts. Next, they parse through the PMC's relationship to, and bolstering of the systems of capitalism, taking the benefits of much more social mobility than the working class and a feeling of superiority to physical laborers for their endorsement of capitalism and its modes of rationality, exploring its development starting at the end of the ‘60s and progressing through the neoliberal era as PMCs moved into suburbs and left the industrial world behind, with public discourse shifting to cultural critiques and allowing them to rest on their laurels above the dirty blue-collar world. Liu and Binder also tackle the growing split between generations of PMC, with the full financialization of college crippling incoming laborers with debt before they can even enter the workforce while the illusion of college-educated superiority remains necessary for the PMC's obsession with status, before wrapping up by walking through the growing striations of the professional classes, the difference between general white-collar workers and professional managers, and whether the PMC can trust socialism's version of a rising tide lifting all boats. And in the Fun Half: Matt Binder is joined by Brandon Sutton as they watch Fox News' highlight package of John Fetterman's best smackdowns on Dr. Oz, as well as Oz's attempt to cover his ass on Newsmax. Matt Gaetz gets hit with the “is a literal pedophile sex trafficker” attack ads, Bill from the Chicago suburbs talks Ukraine and behind-the-scenes negotiations, and Ren from the deep state talks about Trump violating Q's clearance. They also tackle Chaiya Raichik's stochastic terrorism inciting countless death threats against Boston Children's Hospital and Missouri's GOP Senate Majority Leader announcing their focus on the “Trans Issue” (no relation to the Jewish Question, of course), plus, your calls and IMs!
