Early on the morning of March 26, 1990, Elizabeth Mackintosh was murdered on the campus of Covenant Theological Seminary in Creve Coeur, Missouri. To date it's the only unsolved murder in the city’s history. True Believer examines the circumstances surrounding Elizabeth's murder and speaks to the people affected by it as they, and the men suspected in her death, search for answers.

The True Believer: The Unsolved Murder of Elizabeth Mackintosh podcast is an incredibly important and intriguing series that delves into the unsolved murder of Elizabeth Mackintosh. This podcast holds great significance for the healing and justice needed by Elizabeth's friends and family. It is well-produced and keeps listeners hooked with its excellent storytelling. As I listen to each episode, I find myself eagerly anticipating future episodes and hoping that this podcast will eventually bring the justice, closure, and healing that is so desperately needed.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is its ability to dive deep into the human dynamics within the faith community surrounding Elizabeth's case. The hosts do a fantastic job of presenting all sides and providing context for the listener, allowing us to understand how various factors can influence people's decisions to talk or remain silent. This thoughtful examination contributes greatly to our understanding of the case and adds a layer of complexity to the storytelling.

Additionally, the hosts of True Believer showcase their professionalism in their thorough research and journalistic approach. They leave no stone unturned in their quest for answers and provide listeners with detailed information about the case. Furthermore, they create a space for others connected to the case, such as Diane Preston and Jerram Barrs, to share their insights and perspectives. This inclusion of multiple voices adds depth to the narrative and makes it more impactful.

One potential drawback of this podcast is that it can be frustrating at times knowing that the murder remains unsolved despite all the evidence presented throughout each episode. While this may be seen as a negative aspect, it actually adds to the intrigue of the story. It sparks curiosity within listeners who are eager to understand why someone would harm such a wonderful person like Elizabeth.

In conclusion, The True Believer: The Unsolved Murder of Elizabeth Mackintosh is a remarkable true crime podcast that provides thoughtful analysis while maintaining a personal investment in finding justice for Elizabeth. It captivates listeners with its well-presented information, engaging storytelling, and attention to detail. I highly recommend this podcast to anyone interested in true crime and the pursuit of justice.

The main True Believer project is finished, at least until there are any updates on the Elizabeth Mackintosh murder investigation. But we do want to return with a postscript that addresses a different question: What happened to other people who were students at Covenant Seminary in 1990?Many students and professors went on to respected careers in the ministry. One of them was a man named Ian, who in 2023 was deemed unfit to lead his church after a sexual misconduct allegation was made public by The Tennessean newspaper, as reported by friend of the podcast Liam Adams. Ian has denied allegations against him.But there's a lot more to the story. The case against him helped us understand how a denomination with so many good, kind people can apparently fumble complaints against their peers. Many cases are, essentially, secret. And there's a cascading effect to that secrecy: If complaints are never heard, and witnesses are never asked, and questions are never answered, abuse remains covered up.Until someone decides to go public.Visit www.truebelieverpodcast.com to see additional materials related to each episode or to get in touch with us.

But he wasn't the only person they looked at.In any large group of people, even at a seminary, there are going to be some people with checkered backgrounds. But as the police started looking into possible suspects, and Covenant began its own internal investigation, some startling things came to light. Elizabeth Mackintosh was killed in the chapel basement at Covenant Theological Seminary. The right tour guide will point out the spot, but Covenant hosts no memorial for her. And it's not like Elizabeth was a stranger passing through… she was a well-respected student at the time she was killed. It's been 33 years since her death, so why are some people still finding out about it for the first time?  Because for all practical purposes any traces of her, and the fact that a murder even took place, have been wiped from Covenant's institutional memory. In this first episode of our series we take a high-level look at Elizabeth's murder, the characters in the story, and what a small but growing number of PCA pastors and members think should be done about it.
