Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: December, 2021This episode of Weird Darkness moves from an immortal vampire said to haunt two centuries of high society, through history's most audacious prison escapes, into the bloody rise of a Las Vegas gambling kingpin, and ends among the haunted pews of America's churches. It opens in London in the early 1740s, where a man known as the Count of St. Germain charmed the upper classes with flawless violin playing, fluency in several languages, and a habit of handing out diamonds, prompting Horace Walpole — son of Prime Minister Robert Walpole — to describe him in a letter as odd and mad before the Count was arrested on suspicion of spying and released without charge. He surfaced next in Paris as a regular guest of Louis XV, working in a commissioned laboratory on fabric dyes and carrying out discreet missions, while gossip held that he could turn ordinary stones into jewels and had lived for hundreds or thousands of years, even claiming presence at the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD. After reported appearances aiding Catherine the Great in Russia and a friendship with Prince Charles of Hesse-Cassel in Germany, where he was said to die in 1784, the story jumps to early-1900s New Orleans and a wealthy newcomer named Jacques St. Germain, who threw lavish parties yet never ate or drank, claimed descent from the Count, and bore an uncanny resemblance to him. The account turns dark when a woman leapt from his balcony into the street, telling police he had bitten her neck; St. Germain vanished overnight, leaving his belongings behind and several open bottles that proved to hold a mixture of wine and blood. From there the episode trades immortality for ingenuity, walking through the boldest jailbreaks on record. It runs from the 2016 Orange County escape, where Jonathan Tieu, Bac Duong, and Hossein Nayeri cut through walls and rappelled to a sixteen-hour head start, to Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán slipping out of Altiplano through a mile-long lighted tunnel in 2015, and Clinton Correctional inmates David Sweat and Richard Matt crawling through a steam pipe with tools handed over by prison worker Joyce Mitchell. Ted Bundy jumped from a Colorado courthouse library window, John Dillinger bluffed his way out of an Indiana jail with a wooden pistol painted in shoe polish, and yoga master Choi Gap Bok greased himself and squeezed through a six-by-eighteen-inch food slot in thirty-four seconds. The larger breakouts carry heavier counts: three men vanished from Alcatraz in 1962 on a raft of raincoats, more than 480 Taliban prisoners filed out of Kandahar's Sarpoza Prison through a thousand-foot tunnel in 2011, over a thousand Japanese prisoners stormed the wire at Australia's Cowra camp in 1944, and inmates at the Nazi death camp Sobibor killed eleven SS guards with homemade knives before running for the treeline.Next the episode settles in Dallas and then Las Vegas with Lester Ben "Benny" Binion, the cowboy-hatted racketeer who founded the World Series of Poker and shot rival bootlegger Frank Bolding in the neck in 1931, walking away with a two-year suspended sentence and the nickname the Cowboy. He killed gambling competitor Ben Frieden in 1936 and beat the charge after witnesses vanished, ran dice games and bookies out of Dallas hotels for high rollers like Howard Hughes and H.L. Hunt, then moved to Las Vegas in 1946 and turned the Eldorado into the no-limit Horseshoe, laying down the first carpet in a Vegas casino. His feud with Dallas gambler Herbert "the Cat" Noble ran through eleven attempts on Noble's life and killed Noble's wife Mildred with a car bomb before a mailbox blast ended Noble in 1951. Binion died on Christmas Day 1989 and was carried to the cemetery behind six black horses, while his son Ted was found dead in 1998 in a case that convicted Sandy Murphy and Rick Tabish of burglary but acquitted them of the slaying, with the missing silver bullion never recovered. The episode closes inside America's churches, where worship shares the building with the dead. At Most Holy Trinity in Brooklyn, built over a former cemetery, parishioners report the spirit of clerk George Stelz, murdered in 1897, alongside bells that ring on their own and a bloody handprint in the bell tower stairway. The Washington National Cathedral carries the echo of Woodrow Wilson's cane and charred figures from a 1946 fire, while New Orleans' St. Louis Cathedral is tied to voodoo queen Marie Laveau, socialite Delphine Lalaurie, and six men executed on its grounds. At St. Mark's Episcopal in Cheyenne, a Swedish immigrant is said to have sealed his dead coworker inside the unfinished bell tower wall to avoid deportation, and at St. Paul's Chapel in New York — where George Washington prayed on his inauguration day — the spirit of actor George Frederick Cooke is said to wander still, his actual skull having traveled from a Philadelphia medical library and, by lore, onto the stage as a prop in Hamlet.

The Blessed Life According to the Son, Pt. 1Blessed are the Empty and BrokenMatthew 4:17, 23-25; 5:1-4 | King's Chapel Live StreamEveryone wants the blessed life.We pursue happiness, success, comfort, and fulfillment, believing that these things will finally satisfy us. Yet Jesus begins the Sermon on the Mount with a surprising declaration. The truly blessed are not the self-sufficient, the powerful, or the accomplished. The truly blessed are the poor in spirit and those who mourn. In this message, we begin a new journey through the Sermon on the Mount by exploring the good news of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus came proclaiming the Kingdom, demonstrating its power, and calling people everywhere to repent and believe. The blessed life begins when we recognize our spiritual poverty before God. It begins when we stop trusting in ourselves and cling to Christ alone. It continues as we mourn over our sin and the brokenness of this fallen world, trusting in God's promise that His people will be comforted. The Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who know they need a Savior. If you are weary, burdened, broken, or searching for lasting hope, this message reminds us that true blessing is not found in self-sufficiency but in surrender to King Jesus.Connect with King's Chapel in Longwood, FL - ▶️ www.kingschapelfl.com▶️ https://www.facebook.com/KingsChapelfl▶️ https://www.instagram.com/kingschapelfl/For the GLORY of our Great GodFor the GOOD of our NeighborSermon on the Mount sermon, Matthew 5 sermon, Beatitudes explained, blessed are the poor in spirit, blessed are those who mourn, Kingdom of Heaven sermon, gospel of the kingdom, Christian hope and comfort, King's Chapel Longwood FL, Jesus Sermon on the Mount

Welcome back to When Words Fail, Music Speaks, the podcast that explores how music can lift us out of the darkness and into hope. I'm your host, James Cox, a lifelong fan‑turned‑handicapped host who's learned to lean on riffs, verses, and relentless head‑banging whenever life gets heavy. In today's episode we sit down with none other than Jack Owen, the lead guitarist behind Six Feet Under and a longtime contributor to Cannibal Corpse. Jack walks us through everything from the day‑to‑day grind of living with depression to why his doctor says he can drink all the coffee he wants. We dig into the nitty‑gritty of royalty disputes—remember the DSI arranging‑credit debacle?—and the importance of getting proper credit, especially in a genre that's notorious for keeping the spotlight on the front‑man.Jack also shares his evolution from six‑string to seven‑string guitars, the challenges of muting low D notes, and how that extra string opened up a whole new low‑end for Cannibal Corpse's brutal sound. We get an inside look at the making of the “Mr. Blood and Guts” video—its silent‑film, 1930s‑style horror vibe, and the campy “Phantom of the Opera” storyline that inspired the lyrics. The conversation then shifts to songwriting. Jack explains how he still leans on classic verse‑chorus‑bridge structures, how he transforms fast riffs into crushing breakdowns, and why harmonic minor has become his go‑to scale to give those “evil” pentatonic flavors. We also hear his thoughts on legacy—seeing newer bands borrow Cannibal‑style pull‑offs, the honor (and occasional cringe) of inspiring the next generation, and the ever‑changing landscape of metal media from glossy magazines to today's digital hustle. Finally, we touch on life on the road in 2026: touring logistics, the struggle with promoters who pay you in pasta, the simple joy of wandering a new city after a show, and the plan to meet up at the upcoming Chapel of Bones gig in July.Grab your headphones, crank the volume, and get ready for a candid, riff‑filled deep‑dive with one of death metal's most underrated architects. When words fail, Jack's guitars—and his stories—let the music speak.

What does it look like for the Church to faithfully live in the world without becoming shaped by it?In this episode, Daniel Williams sits down with Phil Metzger, Lead Pastor of Calvary San Diego and featured speaker at the CGN International Ministry Conference, to discuss mission, culture, church planting, and the role of the Church in today's world.Drawing from over twenty years of missionary service in Eastern Europe, Phil shares how God has shaped his understanding of ministry, the importance of listening across cultural differences, and why the Church must remain sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit in every generation.Phil also offers a preview of his upcoming conference message, exploring what it means for the Church to engage the world missionally, methodologically, and as a movement—while remaining distinct from the values of the world around us.

What is the church, and why does its authority matter? Pastor Chris continues our series on ecclesiology by defining the church as a "called out governing gathering" tasked with bringing the atmosphere of heaven down to earth. Drawing from Matthew 16 and 28, we look at how Jesus delegates His authority to the body of Christ to accomplish a specific mission. This message breaks down the fivefold ministry offices—apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers—and explains how this plurality of leadership provides essential checks and balances for the health of the church. You will also learn why a church's primary job is to equip the saints for their own work of ministry rather than just providing a weekly meal. If you have ever wondered how healthy church government actually works or how spiritual authority provides a covering for your life, this teaching is for you.

Again and again, he exposes the emptiness of looking for ultimate meaning in temporary things. But Ecclesiastes does not end in despair. It ends with a call to fear God and keep His commandments, because every deed matters and every life will one day stand before Him.In this message, we discover that everything matters because God is the Judge of all things. We see that the deepest emptiness of the human heart can only be filled by the fullness of God. And we are pointed to the One Shepherd whose words guide us, ground us, and ultimately lead us home. The good news of Ecclesiastes is not that we must find our way to God. The good news is that God has come to us in Jesus Christ. The Judge became the One judged for our sins. The Good Shepherd laid down His life for His sheep. At the end of the matter, life is not meaningless. Life finds its meaning in Him.If you've followed this journey through Ecclesiastes or if you're searching for purpose, hope, and lasting meaning, this message points us to the only One who truly satisfies.Connect with King's Chapel in Longwood, FL - ▶️ www.kingschapelfl.com▶️ https://www.facebook.com/KingsChapelfl▶️ https://www.instagram.com/kingschapelfl/For the GLORY of our Great GodFor the GOOD of our NeighborEcclesiastes 12 sermon, the end of the matter, fear God and keep His commandments, meaning of life Bible sermon, Good Shepherd sermon, purpose of life Christianity, Ecclesiastes conclusion, finding meaning in God, Jesus the Good Shepherd, King's Chapel Longwood FL

The hope, as always, is that all will be revealed at the Chapel of Ends. Unfortunately, despite Leopold's Errant Mercenaries best efforts. It seems this House of the Dead is keeping its secrets. As Sticks and Tyke tussle with an amnesiac corpse, for whom even Speak with Dead is of no use, Ephraim investigates the mysteriously ash covered dead body of Penelope Solverson (he is then once again poisoned). Perhaps the answer lies instead with the living, in the salt encrusted taverns of the Fairburn City Docks. If you want to hear more of Ellie Morris and Henry Shields go check out the Hell or High Rollers Podcast! And if you're still wanting to pledge for the Jarren's Outpost Board Game you can right here!
