Lead author Dr Jerram Bateman says there's no central port-of-call for people. He says there's a lack of coordination in care - leading to a lack of continuity in the cancer care pathway from treatment to the survivor phase. It is fifty years since the last manned-flight to the moon. While the Apollo missions have long been superseded by explorations further afield, the science journalist Oliver Morton insists the moon landings remain strong in our cultural imagination. In his 2019 book, The Moon, he explained how a spherical piece of rock had captured the world's attention, but then been largely ignored. He tells Tom Sutcliffe how scientists and politicians are now once again turning their focus to our nearest neighbour. Throughout history the moon has inspired artists, poets, scientists, writers and musicians the world over. The artist Luke Jerram has created an extraordinary replica of the Moon measuring seven metres in diameter, fusing NASA imagery of the lunar surface, moonlight, and sound composition. The Museum of the Moon has been exhibited hundreds of times – both indoors and outdoors – across the world, and Jerram explains how each installation has stimulated different events. While NASA's Artemis mission explores sending astronauts back to the Moon as a stepping stone to human exploration to Mars, and celebrity billionaires sell visions of private space travel, Mary-Jane Rubenstein sounds a warning. In Astrotopia: The Dangerous Religion of the Corporate Space Race she sees comparisons with the destructive effects of the centuries-long history of European colonialism. As problems multiply on Earth she dismisses the offer by wealthy messiahs of an other-worldly salvation for a chosen few. Both Francis and Edith Schaeffer believed passionately that all human persons are made in the image of God, and thus have a glory inherent in who they are. This conviction impacted everything they taught, including what they taught about how we are to communicate the gospel to people who are not-yet believers in Jesus.  Even more clearly, this conviction of the dignity of all persons impacted the way they treated people, both believers and unbelievers, and it shaped very deeply the manner in which they shared the gospel of Christ with people. You can read the article Jerram mentions in the lecture, A Review of A Review by Francis Schaeffer. And we're back! It's been a while, but finally it's time for another podcast, so we've made it a long one. Take this episode on a long train ride or car trip, as Dr Boob and I explore the science of the spells of Harry Potter.Attempting to find scientific and engineering solutions to Harry Potter spells is probably the most difficult task we have set ourselves yet, so we would be very interested to hear how you would made the Harry Potter spells a reality. The spells dealt with in this episode are:Lumos - Producing light from the end of a wand (A voice activated torch seems a logical solution),Aguamenti - Shooting water from the end of the wand,Alohomora - Picking a lock at a distance,Expecto Patronum - Protection against evil dementors in the form of some virtual creature, Sectumsempra - Slicing your opponent open,Aparecium - Reading invisible ink,Accio - Summoning things to you,Expelliarmus - Disarming your opposition of their wand,Confundo - Confusing the victim,Stupefy - Stunning the victim, Invisibility cloak - Covering yourself in a cloak to make yourself invisible, Imperio - Forcing your victims to obey your commands,Obliviate - Erasing the memories of the victim,Legilimens - Telepathy. Although some of these are quite clearly impossible at the moment, in every case we have come up with a scientific or engineering solution to take us at least part of the way there. Listen in to find out what we came up with, and please write in and let us know where we have gone wrong or what you would do.Click play below or listen to this show here.
