The Power Trip: A Journey Through the Power Rangers Franchise
You spoke it into existence, Listeners with Attitude! Our first five-hour episode! We're joined by our two friends, Daniel DiManna (Godzilla Novelization Project) and Travis Alexander (Kaiju Ramen Magazine) to discuss Gosei Sentai Dairanger. This Sentai is in a weird place because it was only sorta adapted by Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers—as in they used mecha footage and some monster footage. The awesome costumes in this series were unused…until Megaforce (but we don't talk about Megaforce). Daniel is interesting because he's seen Super Sentai before Power Rangers (a rarity in the English-speaking world) and Travis loves this because it combines two of his favorite things: martial arts films and tokusatsu. Our “Toku Topic” is ch'i. Be warned: we get a bit punch drunk by the end. ----------------------------------------------- EMAIL FEEDBACK TO THE SHOW: powertrippod@gmail.com ----------------------------------------------- FOLLOW THE SHOW: Follow The Power Trips on Twitter: @ThePowerTripPod. This Podcast is set up so that listeners at home can watch the movies along with us and laugh along as we talk about whatever comes to mind! From pop-culture-related events to AMC theater work stories, hell even us just talking about our personal lives! The Movie we are discussing in this episode is, "Mighty Morphing Power Rangers The Movie" , with special Guests STEVEN GARCIA AND VICTOR OCASIO Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is a 1995 American superhero film. It stars the ensemble cast of Karan Ashley, Johnny Yong Bosch, Steve Cardenas, Jason David Frank, Amy Jo Johnson, and David Yost alongside the villains cast from the original series and Paul Freeman as Ivan Ooze. Much like the television season that followed the release, it used concepts from the Japanese Super Sentai series Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Gosei Sentai Dairanger and Ninja Sentai Kakuranger. It is the first Power Rangersproduction from Saban Entertainment not to feature any archived footage from Super Sentai. It is the first installment in Power Rangers film series. The film was released in between the second and third seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but is incompatible with season three, which provides a different explanation for the Rangers gaining their Ninja Ranger powers and Ninjazords, indicating they are set in different continuities. CJ and Prime talk at length about a very raw as hell series in Gosei Sentai Dairanger. A series that is pretty damn good in its own right from beginning to end. If you've watched MMPR Season 2, that enhances the watch of Dairanger if only because of how the show uses the monsters in better inventive ways than what MMPR did. Great characters, solid story arcs, and raw as hell fighting scenes makes this a must watch.
