“Switching Places” (October 4, 1993) If you're reading this and deciding that Power Rangers is not a sitcom, you're correct! We're doing it anyway, and as elder millennials who were just a little too old for MMPR when it originally aired, we're bringing in a ringer in the form of Sina Grace — artist, writer and bonvivant. whose work in the comics world has included writing for these very teenagers with attitude. In this episode, Billy and Kimberley swap bodies and so David Yost and Amy Jo Johnson have fun imitating each other while also commenting on gender norms… inasmuch as that's possible in a 20-minute-long TV episode about superheroes who fight giant monsters. Buy Sina's latest comic, West Hollywood Monster Squad. Support Sina's Kickstarter for his book about dog grief, Life on Paws. Way back in our early days of Go Long, we tried to learn everything we could about Jordan Love, the quarterback handpicked to take over for Aaron Rodgers. The plan was always genius, and now the Green Bay Packers are positioned to compete for a long time. Thus, one name you've read often — including here, here and here — is David Yost. The longtime college assistant was Love's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Utah State in 2017 and 2018. He also coached the likes of Brad Smith, Chase Daniel and Blaine Gabbert at Missouri and Justin Herbert at Oregon. Today, Yost is the offensive coordinator and QBs coach at New Mexico State. Every time we catch up, we end up talking quarterbacks for an hour-plus. So it only made sense to get Yost on the Go Long Pod. Video and audio of this episode is available above, as well as on Apple, Spotify and YouTube. I'll also share the written transcript with you soon.Topics discussed:* How does a college coach navigate the wild west of NIL today? Yost has lived the changes firsthand. Players come and go. (We get his thoughts on the Tennessee situation, too.)* When did Yost know Jordan Love could be special?* Yost takes you inside his (multiple) pre-draft conversations with Matt LaFleur. The Packers head coach couldn't sit down with Love during Covid, so he tried to get to know the quarterback best he could. Quickly, he realized Love used his brain as a quarterback.* The “it” factor. Love's leadership style. * Justin Herbert is quiet as a mouse… but Oregon teammates knew immediately he was the guy. * Why Yost prefers quarterbacks who push the envelope and take chances down the field. Of course, this is a balance the Packers (and others) are trying to strike with their quarterbacks.* The key difference between fumbles and interceptions.* If you don't have a QB1, Yost is blunt: You better draft one. * Yost didn't think Shedeur Sanders would amount to much out of high school. Now? Yost is a believer. He explains why in full. Thank you, everyone. We'd love it if you shared Go Long with a friend. This is a public episode. We explore the troubling narrative surrounding President Trump's administration and its move to shut down USAID, a crucial foreign aid agency established by President Kennedy. We highlight how the dismantling of USAID can severely undermine America's relationships with democratic allies, turning foreign policy into a transactional affair where friendship is bargained rather than earned. We see how this aligns with the broader strategy laid out in Project 2025 – to eliminate foreign aid altogether, thereby creating a vacuum that could benefit adversaries like Russia and China. I also discuss the complexities of USAID's legacy, from humanitarian efforts to its controversial political ramifications, all in the context of a government that seems increasingly willing to sacrifice long-standing institutions in favor of short-term gains. We then shift to Ohio Attorney General David Yost, who has announced his run for governor, embodying a brand of conservative politics that is deeply entrenched in hypocrisy and moral failure. We examine Yost's record, from his opposition to reproductive rights to his role in targeting marginalized individuals while neglecting corporate misconduct. His political motivations, rooted in Christian nationalism and a disdain for progressive values, raise serious questions about his leadership potential and the implications for Ohio's future. Finally, we discuss recent comments made by Trump regarding a proposed takeover of Gaza, exploring how such rhetoric reverberates through the Arab-American community and beyond. This segment connects to the consequence of political decisions leading to the rise and fall of candidate support, specifically focusing on the uncommitted movement within Michigan that emerged in response to dissatisfaction with Biden's policies and the fallout of their choices during the elections. The episode is a critical examination of how protest votes can inadvertently strengthen opponents, underscoring the need for strategic electoral engagement.Full Show Notes and LinksSend us a textSupport the showSubscribe to our free newsletterCheck out our MerchFollow us on BlueskyFind us on Twitter(for now) Find us on InstagramFind us on Counter SocialFind us on Mastadon

We dive into the recent tumult surrounding two significant topics affecting public policy and religious freedom in Ohio. The spotlight is first placed on LifeWise Academy's attempts to ingratiate itself into Ohio public schools, alongside the ongoing case involving Dad's Place Church in Bryan, Ohio, as the Ohio Attorney General, David Yost, enters the fray. With rising tensions and opposing viewpoints, Doug dissects these developments, providing new insights into the legal and social landscape of the state. We get a comprehensive update on House Bill 8, a contentious piece of legislation that combines both anti-LGBT elements and provisions for Release Time Religious Instruction (RTRI). Doug reflects on the dynamics at play in the Ohio Senate's late-session debate, highlighting how amendments to the bill were pieced together amidst a growing coalition of concerned residents and advocacy groups opposed to the bill for one reason or another.Moving on to the case of Dad's Place Church, we contextualize the ongoing legal struggles faced by Pastor Chris Avell, who operates a makeshift homeless shelter in his church. A prior agreement between the city and Avell fell apart due to the pastor's lack of adherence to necessary zoning regulations. The situation escalated as the city issued citations, resulting in a federal lawsuit propelled by the Christian nationalist legal organization First Liberty. We discuss how Yost's recent input in support of Avell raises critical questions about government interference in religious endeavors, especially in light of accusations that the city is selectively enforcing regulations against the church under the guise of public safety. We dissect Yost's statements, questioning the narrative of animosity and exploitation that shapes the discourse around this case.Full Show Notes and Links UsedSend us a textSupport the showSubscribe to our free newsletterCheck out our MerchFollow us on BlueskyFind us on Twitter(for now) Find us on InstagramFind us on Counter SocialFind us on Mastadon

This Day in Legal History: Miranda RightsOn June 13, 1966, the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a landmark ruling in Miranda v. Arizona, fundamentally transforming the criminal justice system. The Court held that suspects must be informed of their rights prior to police interrogation, a decision aimed at protecting the Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This ruling introduced what is now known as "Miranda rights," which include the right to remain silent, the right to an attorney, and the warning that anything said can be used in court. The case arose from Ernesto Miranda's conviction based on a confession obtained without these warnings, which the Court deemed unconstitutional. Chief Justice Earl Warren emphasized the necessity of procedural safeguards to ensure suspects' awareness of their rights. This decision has since become a cornerstone of American legal procedure, significantly influencing law enforcement practices nationwide. The Miranda warning aims to prevent coercion and ensure fair treatment, highlighting the importance of individual rights within the justice system.Today, Tesla shareholders are voting to approve Elon Musk's $56 billion pay package and relocate the company's legal home to Texas. Musk announced on social media that the pay package and relocation were passing by wide margins. Approval of this substantial pay deal could alleviate investor concerns about Musk's future at Tesla and support the company's efforts to reverse a court decision that voided the pay package. However, the decision may still face challenges in the Delaware court, where a judge previously ruled that Tesla's board was too influenced by Musk. Despite the shareholder vote, legal experts, such as UC Berkeley's Adam Badawi, are uncertain if the court will uphold it.Tesla's stock rose significantly in premarket trading following the announcement. The final voting results will be disclosed at a shareholder meeting in Texas. Major proxy firms had advised against the pay package, but a mix of institutional and retail investor votes helped secure its passage. Shareholders also voted on relocating Tesla's legal headquarters and re-electing board members Kimbal Musk and James Murdoch. This vote is seen as a test of confidence in Musk's leadership amid Tesla's recent challenges, including a significant drop in stock value since 2021 and concerns about Musk's commitments across his multiple ventures.Musk says Tesla shareholders voting yes for his $56 billion pay package | ReutersDisney and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis have resolved their dispute with a deal allowing Disney to develop the Walt Disney World Resort near Orlando for the next 15 years. The feud began in 2022 when former Disney CEO Bob Chapek criticized a state law limiting discussions of sexuality and gender issues in schools, known as the "Don't Say Gay" law. The new agreement, made with the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District, commits Disney to spending at least $8 billion over a decade and $17 billion over 10 to 20 years on the resort. This investment will include expanding affordable housing, ensuring 50% of the spending benefits Florida businesses, and potentially building a fifth theme park, retail and office spaces, and 14,000 additional hotel rooms. Disney President Jeff Vahle highlighted that the agreement facilitates significant investments in the resort. This deal follows a settlement in March to end a lawsuit over control of the special district encompassing Walt Disney World.Disney, Florida's DeSantis end spat with deal on 15-year expansion plan | ReutersThe U.S. Supreme Court is set to rule on the constitutionality of the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) use of in-house judges for adjudicating enforcement actions. This decision could have significant consequences for other federal agencies that employ similar systems. The SEC employs administrative law judges who handle cases referred by the agency's commissioners. These judges conduct hearings, issue subpoenas, and make initial decisions on sanctions, which are then reviewed by the commissioners. This process is generally faster and more specialized than federal court proceedings. The challenge originates from George Jarkesy, a hedge fund manager fined by the SEC in 2013 for securities fraud. Jarkesy contested the SEC's in-house system, and the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in 2022 that these proceedings violate the Seventh Amendment's right to a jury trial. This ruling has prompted the Supreme Court to review the case.During a November hearing, the Supreme Court's conservative justices expressed doubts about the legality of the SEC's in-house system, particularly its exclusion of jury trials for fraud charges. Chief Justice John Roberts questioned the constitutionality of depriving individuals of a jury trial based on the government's decision. If the Supreme Court decides to limit or abolish the SEC's in-house courts, it could affect not only the SEC but also other federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency, the Labor Department, and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. These agencies might face slower enforcement actions, increased resource demands, and challenges in targeting misconduct without the use of in-house tribunals.Explainer: What is the US SEC's in-house court under Supreme Court review? | ReutersFirst, some very brief background. Qualified immunity is a legal doctrine that shields government officials, including law enforcement, from liability for civil damages unless they violated a clearly established statutory or constitutional right. It is intended to protect officials from lawsuits over actions taken in their official capacity, provided their conduct does not violate clearly established laws.Recently, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals told the Ohio Attorney General (AG) to stop blocking a ballot initiative aimed at ending qualified immunity. This initiative arose from widespread public dissatisfaction with various forms of immunity that often protect government employees from lawsuits. Ohio residents have been trying to place a measure on the ballot to eliminate these immunities. However, the Ohio AG, David Yost, has repeatedly refused to certify the proposed amendment, preventing it from advancing. We'll have to see what Ohio decides, but this development could pave the way for similar initiatives in other states. If Ohio successfully places the measure on the ballot and it gains voter approval, it may inspire activists and lawmakers in other jurisdictions to pursue comparable reforms. The outcome in Ohio could set a precedent and generate momentum for a broader movement to reassess and potentially limit qualified immunity across the United States.Sixth Circuit Tells Ohio AG To Stop Blocking Ballot Initiative Calling For End Of Qualified Immunity | Techdirt This is a public episode. Hello and welcome to the ZimmCast. I'm Chuck Zimmerman. Last week the Ag Innovation Campus held its grand opening in Crookston, MN. You can see lots of photos and interviews in the virtual newsroom I published on AgNewsWire.com. I'm going to share some of those interviews in the episode. Before getting to the AIC facility I met a group of farmers and other ag leaders in Fargo, ND to tour the Northern Crops Institute. This is a collaborative effort among Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, and South Dakota to support the promotion and market development of crops grown in this four-state region and it is situated on the campus of North Dakota State University, in Fargo. I'll share my interview with Mark Jirik, Director, who will describe the unique work they do there. After that we got on a bus and traveled to the Riverview Waukon Dairy where I met David Yost who will provide an overview of the large and very impressive facility they have built. Then we moved on to Crookston, MN to the Ag Innovation Campus. We had presentations from a variety of people who have played a part in the success of reaching phase one of the facility and a ribbon cutting. I talked with several leaders about the work that the AIC will do to deliver crops and processing technologies from bench top to commercialization. Think of the term, crush facility, and you'll hear more about this staring with Tom Slunecka, Acting AIC CEO. Next we'll hear from Mike Skaug, AIC Board Member. Finally in this episode you can hear from the AIC Plant Manger, Kent Meyers. That's the ZimmCast for this week. I hope you enjoyed it and thank you for listening.

Hey all! In this episode of Geek Freaks, we have a lot of exciting topics to discuss. First off, we're thrilled to be recording in person for the first time in years. It's a different vibe with some rough audio, but we're loving it! We kick things off by talking about our plans to attend the upcoming Sac Anime convention. It's one of the biggest conventions in Northern California, and we're excited to be there. We also discuss the pros and cons of attending conventions as media versus just being in the audience and enjoying the experience. Moving on to the news, we dive into the recent announcement from the Pokémon company. Their COO acknowledged the glitches and bugs in their games and promised to address them by adding more people to quality assurance. We have a lively discussion about the limitations of the Nintendo Switch and the ongoing debate between better graphics and an affordable console. We also ponder the possibility of a third-party company taking over the development of Pokémon games and the potential risks and rewards that come with it. Next up, we shift gears to the return of David Yost, the Blue Ranger from the original Power Rangers series. He's making a comeback as a mentor in the Power Rangers mythos, and we're excited to see him back in action. We also briefly touch on the topic of comic books and the artwork in Boom Studios' comics. The artwork is top-notch, and we discuss how comic books are still a great way for our generation to participate in geek culture. To wrap things up, we give you a sneak peek of the comics coming out next week. We highlight our top five picks, including The Amazing Spider-Man #32, Venom #24, X-Force #43, and Fantastic Four Annual #1. It's always exciting to see what's new in the world of comics, and we encourage you to support your local comic book shop. Will Mike MacIntyre get Florida International to a bowl game and Conference USA Championship contention in 2023? Plus, Michael Barker aka (@CFBcampustour) hops on the show to talk about his experiences to FIU Stadium for Panther football games. Will Grayson James take the next step forward in David Yost's FIU offense? Will Brandon Smith and Shomari Lawrence have the FIU ground game not missing a beat in 2023? Does returning two of three in the receiving core with Jalen Bracey and Kris Mitchell mean the pass game should be improved? Is tight end Josiah Miamen a name to watch for on the FIU offense? Is the offensive line the biggest question mark with only returning two starters in John Brock and Jacob Peace? Can Jovan Dewitt and the FIU Panthers defense take the next step in 2023? Did the Florida International Panthers win the transfer portal in 2023? Will the defensive line with Jordan Guerad and Jeramy Passmore back and the addition of Claude Larkins and Jack Daly mean the defensive line should be improved? Is linebacker Donovan Manuel a name to watch out for in the linebacking core? Will the secondary be the strongest unit on defense in 2023 with the return of CJ Christian, Adrian Cole and Hezekiah Masses? During this episode of A Gay & His Enby, Eamon & Merlin talk Real Housewives of New Jersey as they finish their Ireland vacation, the newest episode of Survivor 44 that sees our first live tribal of the season, & Vanderpump Rules as a day at Hermosa Beach turns chaotic & Scandoval begins to rise to the surface. PLUS: quick spoiler free reviews of Cocaine Bear and Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: Once & Always. We are Eamon and Merlin, a queer married couple from Texas living in Pittsburgh, PA. We love reality television, wrestling, drag queens, and pretty much anything that can be called even kinda gay. A Gay & His Enby is a podcast where we talk about everything we love in terms of media and pop culture; everything thats gay and gay adjacent; basically all the conversations we have in our living room we are now putting in front of a microphone and on the internet for you. Every week, we have the pleasure and privilege of recording from Sorgatron Media Studios in Pittsburgh. Our theme song is Pulsar by Shane Ivers which you can find at https://www.silvermansound.com All of our social media can be found at our linktree: https://linktr.ee/agayandhisenby In recent years, states have pushed forward a record number of bills that attack LGBTQ rights, especially transgender youth. The current obession with Drag Queens is no exception. This is a thinly veiled attempt to outlaw gender expressions that do not fall within the cisheteronormative guidelines. Follow the homies Cam (Cameron Cox) and Dylan (Dylan Hernandez) two former AMC Theater employees as they take a nostalgic trip back in time to rewatch films that mean the most to them! This Podcast is set up so that listeners at home can watch the movies along with us and laugh along as we talk about whatever comes to mind! From pop-culture-related events to AMC theater work stories, hell even us just talking about our personal lives! The Movie we are discussing in this episode is, "Mighty Morphing Power Rangers The Movie" , with special Guests STEVEN GARCIA AND VICTOR OCASIO Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is a 1995 American superhero film. It stars the ensemble cast of Karan Ashley, Johnny Yong Bosch, Steve Cardenas, Jason David Frank, Amy Jo Johnson, and David Yost alongside the villains cast from the original series and Paul Freeman as Ivan Ooze. Much like the television season that followed the release, it used concepts from the Japanese Super Sentai series Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Gosei Sentai Dairanger and Ninja Sentai Kakuranger. It is the first Power Rangersproduction from Saban Entertainment not to feature any archived footage from Super Sentai. It is the first installment in Power Rangers film series. The film was released in between the second and third seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but is incompatible with season three, which provides a different explanation for the Rangers gaining their Ninja Ranger powers and Ninjazords, indicating they are set in different continuities.
