Text us and say hello! In episode 16 of "Backwards Compatible," Lou and I tackle "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie - The Game" for the Sega Genesis. This Genesis version stands out as the superior iteration compared to its Game Gear and SNES counterparts, largely because of its enhanced co-op battles, more content directly tied to the movie, and a tighter storyline that aligns closely with the MMPR TV show.We dive deep into why this Genesis version excels, from its gameplay mechanics to the stellar soundtrack, which is a phenomenal Genesis rendition of the original score by Ron Wassermann—known for his iconic work on the "X-Men" animated series theme. The music perfectly captures the energy and excitement of the Power Rangers universe, adding an extra layer of nostalgia and adrenaline to every battle.Additionally, we revisit the 1995 "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie, discussing the standout characters like Ivan Ooze and expressing our bewilderment over why these characters haven't been more prominently featured in subsequent series and merchandise. We also recommend a few modern beat 'em ups and Power Rangers games that successfully recapture the spirit of classic Power Rangers action for those looking to relive the excitement or introduce it to a new generation. As always, we round out the episode with a look at pop culture milestones from August 1995, setting the scene for when the Power Rangers were at the height of their popularity. Join Lou and me as we morph back to a time when spandex and giant robots ruled the afternoon TV slots and the Sega Genesis was the console of choice for Power Rangers fans.Support the Show. We've got merch!Check out the site for some awesome Gen 'S' swag :)

At the height of their success, the Power Rangers would get their first ever motion picture in 1995. In this film, the Rangers would battle Ivan Ooze (played by Paul Freeman) an ancient warlord who was ruled the Earth 6000 years ago before being defeated by the Rangers' leader, Zordon. This film would release during the series finale of the its second season but would not be part of the series canonization. The film was directed by Bryan Spicer and stars Jason David Frank, Amy Jo Johnson, Steve Cardenas, Billy Yost, Karen Ashley & Johnny Yong Bosch.

It's morphin time! For kids in the 90's there was no greater film than Power Rangers: The Movie! For critics, it was a different story. Look, maybe some of the special effects don't hold up so well today, but all we want to talk about is what the movie does well! The Power Rangers are as cool as ever, Ivan Ooze is the most charismatic purple character ever put to film, and that theme song still rules!Join the Best of the Rest discord: https://discord.gg/86P7jJXNPb Merch: https://www.teepublic.com/user/botrcast Email: bestoftherestpod@gmail.com Social Media @BotRCast on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook Bonus content: Youtube Theme song (vocals) by Mark Benavides: Instagram Music by Mitch: Twitter, SoundCloud Logo by Alex Brinegar: https://beardodoesdesign.com/ Additional artwork by Phillip Chacon, C7Productions: Instagram

(This episode was largely recorded and written before the tragic news of Jason David Frank's death). Hello, Kaiju Lovers! In what you could call the perfect crossover between their podcasts, MIFV MAX members Drew and Jacob of The Cel Cast sponsor a discussion of Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers: The Movie. It has animated kaiju in it—they're just bad CGI robots. But the real star of this film, like other pop culture blockbusters in 1995, was the villain Ivan Ooze (played by Paul Freeman), who steals every scene and eats all the scenery. If you've heard Nate discuss this on one of his other podcasts, The Power Trip, this will be an expansion on what he said there, particularly on the subject of the hero's journey. Too bad for Nate and his co-hosts, their discussion is interrupted by a certain snarky bonehead. The night before the broadcast, Nate journals about getting voicemails from Karone—an actual Power Ranger—and Raymund—who keeps claiming he was a Ranger. After the broadcast, Nate goes to a special “thank you for your service” meet-and-greet being held in honor of the recently retired Tommy Oliver. But an old foe of Tommy's crashes the party. This episode is dedicated in loving memory to Jason David Frank. The prologue and epilogue, “Return of the Green Rangers,” was written by Nathan Marchand with Michael Hamilton. “Rito Calls” written by Nathan Marchand. Imbued with mighty powers of different animals and dinosaurs alike, the Power Rangers faced off against an army of ooze and putty baddies to save Angel Grove. Developed in 1995 by SIMS Banpresto for the Sega Genesis, this movie adaptation of the near and dear to our hearts story has a full cast of all the Rangers of the time. Facing off against the main movie villain Ivan Ooze, we fight through some lineups and with our Zords all the acrobatics imaginable.
Go Go Power Rangers! After the mega success of the TV show in 1993, the powers that be (Zordon?) decided we all needed a Power Ranger movie, thus The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Movie was born and we saw Kimberly, Aisha, Tommy, Adam, Billy, and Rocky flip for us 10,000 more times on the big screen! Really this is just a long drawn out tv episode where a new baddie (Ivan Ooze!) comes to town to destroy human civilization and it's up to the Power Rangers and their nifty animal/bot alter egos to save the day! Sweety was obsessed with this show as a kid and had a biiiig ladyboner for all things Yellow Ranger! We'll talk about why we think kids loved this show so goddamned much, how we liked that this illustrated to little girls that women can kick ass (though sadly the damsel in distress act was still relied on heavily!), and we discuss what your choice of Power Ranger says about your personality. And we were today years old when learned that Ivan Ooze was played by the same actor who played Belloq in Raider's of the Lost Ark! What a career!
It's morphin' time down memory lane! Armando Rivera (director, producer, Ivan Ooze's #1 fan) visits Camp to break down this '90s blockbuster. We're talkin' megazords, goofy creatures, Kung Fu, labor unions, and nothing but the silliest puns this side of Angel Grove. It's Morphin Time this week at the Last Row Podcast, as Drew and Badway reminisce on the 1995 kids hit(?) film, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie! We learn that while Drew was a big MMPR fan growing up, Badway definitely was NOT, and how this affected their respective rewatches. The iconic 1995 Power Rangers Movie - Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie - is bad, but fun. The 2017 reboot is just bad. This movie sees the return of Rita Repulsa and her hubby Zedd, as well as a new villain in the form of Ivan Ooze (played by prolific English actor Paul Freeman, who acts his ass off), whose evil power is really just capitalism. All in all, a fun watch.
This week Jackie and Danielle are morphing into action with their guests Brandon and Laura as they cover the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers from 1995. After their Command Center is trashed by the nefarious Ivan Ooze, the Power Rangers must obtain a new and greater power to rescue Zordon -- and the world. With the help of a stunningly beautiful warrior named Dulcea, they learn the ancient art of Ninjetti, the perfect union of mind, body and spirit. With new powers and new animal Zords, the Power Rangers are ready to take on Ivan in a breathtaking battle above the streets of Angel Grove and into the far reaches of outer space. The Movie we are discussing in this episode is, "Mighty Morphing Power Rangers The Movie" , with special Guests STEVEN GARCIA AND VICTOR OCASIO Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie is a 1995 American superhero film. It stars the ensemble cast of Karan Ashley, Johnny Yong Bosch, Steve Cardenas, Jason David Frank, Amy Jo Johnson, and David Yost alongside the villains cast from the original series and Paul Freeman as Ivan Ooze. Much like the television season that followed the release, it used concepts from the Japanese Super Sentai series Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger, Gosei Sentai Dairanger and Ninja Sentai Kakuranger. It is the first Power Rangersproduction from Saban Entertainment not to feature any archived footage from Super Sentai. It is the first installment in Power Rangers film series. The film was released in between the second and third seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, but is incompatible with season three, which provides a different explanation for the Rangers gaining their Ninja Ranger powers and Ninjazords, indicating they are set in different continuities. Your favorite April Fools at Explode When Defeated are joined by Steve Yurko to talk about the Power Rangers' first foray onto the silver screen. We talk about our personal histories with the series as well as this movie's weird status as a sort of camp classic, made simply by the presence of one Ivan Ooze. We also talk about that uh, trailblazing... CGI and the uh... acting that the veteran TV cast put on full display with this thing. It's a fun episode as always as Steve is such a blast to talk with, and we hope you enjoy! We're gonna be back on topic in another couple weeks with our next Demolition Daiei: GAMERA VS JIGER. The Power Trip: A Journey Through the Power Rangers Franchise
The Power Rangers “go, go” to the movies! Michael and Nathan discuss the Teenagers with Attitude's first big screen outing, which was a HUGE pop culture event. Some might even say the franchise went downhill from here, but that's debatable. This movie takes place in its own little universe, so it has no ties to the show aside from the characters and actors. The CGI is bowling shoe ugly now, but the practical effects still hold up in this, the most morphenomenal example of Joseph Campbell's hero's journey you'll ever see. Ivan Ooze is a meme machine and Dulcea…well, she's definitely there for the dads who escorted their kids to the theater to see this. Oh, and Nathan fact-checks Mighty Morphin' Power Fanboy Michael on a bit of trivia. “I got the power!”-----------------------------------------------Listen to Episode 14 of The Henshin Men Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/henshin-men/id1575547087?i=1000538899556-----------------------------------------------EMAIL FEEDBACK TO THE SHOW:powertrippod@gmail.com-----------------------------------------------FOLLOW THE SHOW:Follow The Power Trips on Twitter: @ThePowerTripPod.Join the podcast's official Facebook group: Power Rangers Legacy.-----------------------------------------------READ KAIJU RAMEN:kaijuramenmagazine.com-----------------------------------------------OTHER PODCASTS WITH ATTITUDE:Kaiju Weekly Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/kaiju-weekly/id1330448313The Henshin Men Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/henshin-men/id1575547087The Monster Island Film Vault:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-monster-island-film-vault/id1472692780The Kaiju Groupie Podcast:https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-kaiju-groupie-podcast/id1519596361-----------------------------------------------The podcast logo was designed by Rebecca Hudgens. Ivan Ooze is an evil alien tyrant and a treacherous sorcerer, who (according to Zordon) "ruled the world with a reign of unparalleled terror."And the Jeepers Creepers kinda looked like himSTAY BEARDY
September is Over-the-Top Villain's month, and now its morphin time! The reason we are all here is to watch Paul Freeman portray the nefarious Ivan Ooze. Hey Amy Jo Johnson. :D (Waves) Synopsis from IMDB: A giant egg is unearthed at a construction site and soon opened, releasing the terrible Ivan Ooze, who wreaks vengeance on Zordon for imprisoning him millennia ago. With Zordon dying and their powers lost, the Rangers head to a distant planet to find the mystic warrior Dulcea. Dan and Brian dive deep into nostalgia for one of their first pop culture loves: Power Rangers. Join as they fondly remember must-see daycare TV, profess formative young love for the Pink Ranger, and realize that Tommy is kind of a jerk. Then, they review the franchise's 1995 feature film and enjoy the campy Ivan Ooze fun but reckon with some dire CGI. Will rose-colored nostalgia win out, or should this film stay buried for 6000 years? The Power Rangers are in trouble this week because the Watch Goblins are rooting for Ivan Ooze. How are we supposed to be on the side of a warlord offering unspeakable power to child soldiers? Travis and Alex also talk about what it would be like to have 6 arms for a long time.
Ready for some great 90's nostalgia? We were too, so come ride with us as we battle the evil Ivan Ooze, and those dang tomatoes. See what they had to say on the other platform, and why we believe them to be absolutely incorrect. Will you be a Tater, or Tot? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/theripepotatoes/support

What is it about the show that has managed to keep it relevant for over thirty years, even far from its home? And what exactly is the appeal of the show? Is it the lo-fi, retro-ness of it through a nostalgia filter? All this and more on this week's episode! ## Episode Outline ### Fandom Facts * It is currently in its 26th (ish) season with almost 900 episodes since 1993. It is based on the Super Sentai meta-series in Japan that started in 1975 and has been running over the same timespan. * Interest in the various Power Rangers series has been [relatively constant since 2004](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=all&q=%2Fm%2F017dbx) though it has had some ups and downs and is on a bit of a downward trend right now. * There are almost 6000 fan works related to Power Rangers [on Archive Of Our Own](https://archiveofourown.org/tags/Power%20Rangers/works) (about ⅓ Gen, ¼ F/F, and ¼ M/M) * The Power Rangers subreddit [has about 20k followers](https://www.reddit.com/r/powerrangers/). ### First Impressions #### T: I couldn't tell you exactly when I started watching the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers… and I also couldn't tell you exactly when I stopped (though I feel like it was just before Zeo… so not long). I loved it; I think my parents still have a VHS of the first episode that was purchased from somewhere (that's right, legit, and occupying the WHOLE VHS). I imagine it had a lot to do with the general interest in karate, ninjas, martial arts, giant robots, and underneath it all… Japan? Plus, it didn't hurt that I felt I could relate to the Blue ranger, and that the show aired just before (and just after school) at an influential time in my life (middle school). I remember going to the movie (with Ivan Ooze) and enjoying it… but I don't know why I stopped watching it either. #### Z: I remember Power Rangers hitting the small screen at the time in my life when I still only had 4 channels at home. As a result, I never really got into it. But, my slightly younger cousins living in the city with their whopping tens of channels were all about the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. I remember seeing a few episodes with them, but even as a child of 8, something about the aesthetic pushed me away from the show rather than bringing me into it. The Super Mario Super Show with its Legend of Zelda cartoon (another piece of media exclusive to visits to my city-dwelling relatives) was way more interesting to me then. ### Famous Last Words What did we have to say about next week's topic, Boku No Hero Academia / My Hero Academia with only our first impressions? #### **G:** Is it the new DBZ? Is that ok? #### **T:** Are there fans working on the in-universe science of the show? #### **Z:** Does anyone like Mineta? ## Where can you find us?
