This week, our Grand Tour takes us to one of the most unique series we've ever covered: Gonzo's 26-episode cult classic Welcome to the N.H.K.! Based on the 2002 novel by Takimoto Tatsuhiko, this 2006 series explores Japan's hikkikomori (social withdrawal) phenomenon, modern Otaku culture, internet-era suicide pacts, and many more contemporary issues, doing it all with startling clarity, immense empathy, and a whole lot of very wacky humor. It's a finger-on-the-pulse series for Japan in the mid-2000s, but one with many resonances for viewers all over the globe, leading to a rich and engaging conversation between our hosts. There is no other show out there quite like Welcome to the N.H.K. – it almost feels like a conspiracy…Enjoy, and come back next week as we watch the Yu-Gi-Oh! series The Man doesn't want you to see: the original 27-episode Toei anime from 1998 (a.k.a. “Season Zero”).

Dan and Vinny discuss the second and final animated film from Toei and Marvel's partnership, 1981's Monster of Frankenstein. Unlike Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned, this movie doesn't reference the Marvel comic, it's a completely different monster. See what I did there?
What would you do if I told you that in the 1980's, Marvel and Toei Animation teamed up to make an animated movie based off the Tomb of Dracula comic series? Well it happened and from that partnership we got Dracula: Sovereign of the Damned! This movie actually does a pretty decent job of retelling most of the Tomb of Dracula series. Neither Dan or Vinny had watched this until this year and Vinny didn't know it existed at all. It's a fresh discussion on something that may be new to a lot of you out there. This is the first part of a two part set of episodes. Marvel and Toei teamed up for another movie which will be discussed in the next episode!
Byrd, Tom and Lux are back to take a look at the 1982 semi-obscurity The House Where Evil Dwells. This haunted house shocker is a co-production made with assistance from the legendary Toei studios. It was directed by Kevin Connor (The Land that Time Forgot) and stars Edward Albert, Susan George, and the incomparable Doug McClure. Based on an unpublished novel of the same name, it tells the story of an American family that moves to Japan and the vengeful ghosts that inhabit their house (and bodies). There's killer crabs, zen monks, Sentai on the TV, and more in this oddity that blends American and Japanese ghost movie tropes. Relax and enjoy the conversation!
Got a problem you need solving? How about you just DON'T and call your local vigilante because this week we watched episode 28 of Toei's Spider-Man entitled, "The Youth Detective Squad Down the Lane from the Station"! Come along as we chat about new intros, burping, pilot episodes, rental stores, spoiler free "The Substance" reviews, wholesale orders, stations, dominator dogs in space, new bullyisms, narrow pee-holes, finding guns, spaghetti and coffee, earthquakes, Grease Lightning, wet fish robots, & more!
