Japan's political scene is changing—from new parties rising in visibility to historic moments in national leadership—so the Krewe is bringing you a timely crash course. Political analyst Tobias Harris (Founder & Principal of Japan Foresight) joins the pod to break down the foundations of Japan's government system, how it compares to the U.S., and why voters view politics the way they do. We explore the major and emerging parties shaping the landscape, the issues driving debate today, and how international pressures and global events influence domestic policy. Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's September, so that means it's time for our “Mechtember” series, where we cover movies involving all things robotic!! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and guest Bill Mueller discuss Keita Amemiya's 1995 robo-showdown, Mechanical Violator Hakaider!Mechanical violation! Awkward sound mixing! A glowing brain! Cool, glowing hands! An evil, robotic Angel! Excessive use of smoke! Dramatic flower burning! Subtext so overt it's effectively hypertext! Amazing use of dummies! Soldiers that look like the Minions from Despicable Me! Imaginative use of an 80s panel van! Extreme head violence! Bleeding walls! Unexpected arm removal! All this and more in a movie that's possibly TOO ambitious, with incredible designs and special effects, that feels like it was made for fans of RoboCop, Power Rangers, and The Guyver! In addition, Bill shares his spoiler-free thoughts on the original Terminator, while Alex does the same for 1989's Tango & Cash, and the Hong Kong action classics, the Iron Angels trilogy! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.

We have a big two crossover coming your way today, no, not the Deadpool and Batman one, comics writer Mat Groom (Radiant Black, Inferno Girl Red) returns to the show all the way from Australia to talk about his Tokusatsu inspired DC Comics project Immortal Legend Batman and his Marvel Comics project Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse. I did my best to not dig too deeply into Immortal Legend Batman , one of the most anticipated events of the year for toku fans everywhere, so we don't give away any spoilers so we jump into what, for me, is one of the surprise Marvel books of 2025 in Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse with what I found to be a thoughtful approach to the relationships between Peter Parker and Eddie Brock wrapped in a slobberknocker of a throwdown between the multiverse representatives of the Web Heart and the Hive Mind. We also compare notes on the misconceptions about dangerous animals on our respective continents. It's alway a pleasure having Mat on the show. Mat's website Mat on BlueSky Immortal Legend Batman #1 In shops August 27th From the publisher Humanity broke the barrier between our universe and our universe's shadow. From the void came horri?c apparitions that craved nothing but destruction. But from this terror...a legend was born. A warrior who found a way to access the energy that binds our universe and the shadow universe, transforming him into a cosmic dark knight. This immortal legend was named Batman. He fought to keep us safe but then one day abandoned the war. Though he didn't disappear entirely. Now they say he hunts a rouges gallery of monsters...born from the shadows! Spider-Verse vs. Venomverse #3 In shops July 23rd From the publisher Round two has begun! But who was able to make it? Now that blood has been spilled, the webs are off as Spider-Man and friends face off yet again against Venom and the symbiotes! But not before TWO new champions are added to the roster! Who could these warriors be? And will they add to the slaughter that has now unleashed among the competitors, or will they betray their own team to avoid the conflict? Follow Comic Book Yeti

You waited a month for another new Omakase (if you cared at all) but don't worry, because here's one that's over four hours long!! Wow! John is joined by first time guest and longtime listener Arametha as they spend the first half hour of this show embarrassingly weebing out together. Anime! Tokusatsu! Anime cons! Iowa city names, for some reason! Once that is mercifully out of the way, the two of them head to the World Wonder Ring for 90 minutes of STARDOM talk, starting with a full review of the Natsu & Saory 10th Anniversary Show from Ota Ward Gym. They talk about the impact of the original Actwres Girlz class, Saori & Poi apparently getting free reign over Bushiroad, some theories on why the young women wrestlers of Japan seem so far ahead of the men right now and much more! Then the two of them talk about recent shows in Osaka & Kyoto plus the two May Korakuens, before finally wrapping up the STARDOM talk with a brief look ahead to the next Korakuen show coming up in the first week of June. Then they move over to New Japan for a full recap of the Best of the Super Juniors 32 tournament, including a review of the finals match between YOH and Kosei Fujita, block rankings by average star rating with thoughts on each wrestler's tournaments, and some big picture thoughts on where the booking may have struggled. Afterward they give a brief audio preview of the upcoming Dominion card as John shares some thoughts on why they're not quite as hyped for this show as some others.Next the two of them talk about DREAM STAR FIGHTING MARIGOLD, a first for Omakase, with a full review of the Marigold Shine Forever show! They discuss the diverging paths of Marigold's young wrestlers, an absolutely *incredible* debut match, Mayu Iwatani's somewhat confusing "grand slam" goal, and the retirement of Nanae Takahashi (including some brief thoughts on her overall career and some past match recommendations if you're so inclined!).Finally, because this episode just wasn't long enough already, they wrap things up with some brief King of DDT thoughts on the semifinals and an outstanding final match, plus Minoru Suzuki vs. Danshoku Dieno, because why not at this point?! If you want to hear an absolute metric ton of Japanese wrestling audio, well, you've definitely come to the right place this week!Follow Wrestling Omakase on Twitter @WrestleOmakase, or follow John on Bluesky instead @justoneenby.Advertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Find out today with a super-sized special Mardi Gras bonus episode, featuring insights from Rex historian/archivist Will French & historian/archivist emeritus Dr. Stephen Hales, Royal Artists float designer/artistic director Caroline Thomas, Lafcadio Hearn's great grandson Bon Koizumi,  legendary chef John Folse, Captain of the Krewe of Lafcadio John Kelly, JSNO's resident Lafcadio Hearn expert Matthew Smith, and even the Mayor of Matsue Akihito Uesada! Tomes of Evil is breaking the rules a bit by covering a villain that did not orignate in a comic book, but today is a special day for Russ and the Godzilla fandom.   Russ is joined by poet, teacher, and host of Growing Up With Godzilla, Donny Winter. Together they tackle a special birthday, the 30th anniversary of SpaceGodzilla. SpaceGodzilla is one of the most evil Kaiju ever created and just so happens to be Russ's favorite. Russ and Donny cover the kaijus initial film and also chat about SpaceGoji in other media. Plus lots more!
