The centerpiece of this episode is DHP Episode 253: Academia is a Racket, which CJ produced back in late-February 2023, only about 6 months after he walked away from academia, after spending 22 years of his life in it (6 as a student & 16 as a teacher.) In this episode, CJ mostly avoided the lowest-hanging & widely understood defects of academia in recent decades — ie, the rise to hegemony of once-fringe (even in academia) “Woke” ideology, & the exorbitant costs to the students of getting a college “education.” Instead, drawing from his 22 years inside academia, he mostly focuses on structural (in the true sense of the word) problems inherent in the nature of the institution & the perverse incentives created thereby, which minimize the amount of education (in the true sense of the word) that takes place. Join CJ as he discusses the following problems with modern conventional academia: No real market feedback mechanism to indicate whether a “good education” is being provided. Overspecialization. Rigid credentialism. Too many courses online (especially at the intro/gen-ed level.) Excessive disability accommodations. Private-sector profiteering (off a captive audience & cartelized, non-competitive system.) Administrative bloat. A focus on arbitrary metrics that can be juked/gamed. Degree inflation. The accreditation agencies functioning as a cartel enforcer to artificially restrict entry & reduce competition. Ideology baked into most (if not all) disciplines, in many cases for over a century. The adversarial relationship often automatically created between student & teacher. State & corporate influence & control. Like this episode? Support the DHP on Patreon! This particular segment focuses on the oarsmen, who usually comprised more than 3/4 of a trireme’s total complement of 200 men. Join CJ as he discusses the three levels of rowers on an Athenian trireme — thalamites, zygites, & thranites — and the uncomfortable, exhausting, dangerous, & often downright disgusting conditions they dealt with when deployed on a trireme, even before they faced the hazards of battle. After 43 years of marriage, Doug Lawrence lost his beloved wife and entered a season that changed his understanding of grief, mental health and purpose. In this deeply personal conversation, Doug explains why telling his wife's story became part of his healing, how unresolved losses can accumulate and why asking for help should never be mistaken for weakness. He also discusses how mentors, counselors, family members and trusted friends can support someone through grief—while emphasizing that mentoring should never replace professional mental-health care. CJ shares how losing his father affected every member of his family differently, including how his mother continues to carry the loss of her husband. Together, CJ and Doug explore the memories, dates and ordinary moments that can bring grief back without warning. This conversation is about more than learning to live after loss. It is about preserving love, finding safe people with whom to tell the truth and understanding that nobody should have to walk through grief entirely alone. Doug Lawrence is a grief mentor, author and founder of TalentC. His book, Grief: The Silent Pandemic, examines the emotional and social realities of grief and the importance of connection throughout the healing journey. In this episode: • Why grief does not follow a fixed timeline • How different family members experience the same loss differently • Why storytelling became part of Doug's healing • How unresolved losses can affect future grief • The role of memory and family rituals • Why men need safe spaces to discuss emotional pain • How mentoring can support—but not replace—professional care • Why it is okay to ask for help Connect with Doug Lawrence: Website: https://www.talentc.ca LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/douglawrence-mentor Grief: The Silent Pandemic is available through Amazon and other major booksellers. For author Myron Edwards, a journey to Aphrodite's Rock on the island of Cyprus became the creative spark behind Mistress of the Rock—a mythological novel bringing ancient legend into a modern story involving love, war, trauma, obsession, possession, and redemption. On this episode of The CJ Moneyway Show, CJ sits down with Myron to explore not simply the book, but the creative life that eventually produced it. Myron's journey has moved through television comedy, advertising, international travel, media, and publishing. His earlier writing includes work connected with the legendary BBC comedy program The Two Ronnies. Over time, his storytelling evolved from the economy and wit of comedy and advertising into longer, emotionally layered fiction. And then Cyprus gave him another story to tell. IN THIS EPISODE CJ and Myron explore: • Myron's evolution as a lifelong creative • His experience writing in television and advertising • The transition from comedy writing into fiction • How international travel influenced his storytelling • The experience that sparked Mistress of the Rock • Why Cyprus became more than simply a setting • The influence of Aphrodite and ancient Greek mythology • Bringing ancient mythology into a contemporary narrative • Writing about war trauma, obsession, love, and redemption • The discipline required to sustain a creative life • How writers transform experiences into stories • What Myron wants readers to experience through his work THE BIGGER MONEYWAY LESSON A creative life rarely moves in a perfectly straight line. The work you did ten years ago may prepare you for something you have not imagined yet. The place you visit today may become tomorrow's story. The experiences that appear disconnected can eventually reveal themselves as pieces of the same journey. That is one of the deeper principles behind this conversation: Nothing meaningful has to be wasted when you learn how to turn experience into purpose. Brick by Brick. ABOUT MYRON EDWARDS Myron Edwards is a writer and storyteller whose creative career has included television, advertising, travel, media, and fiction. His work evolved from comedy writing associated with BBC television and The Two Ronnies into long-form fiction influenced by history, mythology, place, and human experience. He is the author of Mistress of the Rock, a mythological novel inspired by Aphrodite's Rock and the island of Cyprus. Welcome back to When Words Fail, Music Speaks, the podcast that explores how music heals, inspires, and connects us—even in the darkest moments. I'm your host, James Cox, and today I'm sitting down with CJ Pierce—guitarist and founding member of Drowning Pool—returning for another candid conversation about life on the road, the band's 25‑year milestone, and the power of sound to lift depression and anxiety. In this episode we'll:Revisit the “Sinner” legacy – CJ walks us through the 25th‑anniversary celebration of Drowning Pool's groundbreaking debut, how the whole record still feels fresh, and why fans—from kids to grandparents—still crank it out loud.Tour talk and new horizons – From coalition bases overseas to upcoming shows in Sturgis (SD), Des Moines (IA), and a long‑awaited South‑Carolina stop, CJ shares the hectic schedule, unexpected nap rituals, and the dream of finally playing Africa, South America, and even Antarctica.Studio vs. live—EP or full album? – After writing 12 new songs in eight days, the band debated releasing a six‑track EP versus a full‑length record. CJ explains their “no‑rush” philosophy, the importance of every member's buy‑in, and how they keep the creative process organic.Acoustic experiments – A sneak peek at an ethereal, cello‑laden acoustic version of “Tearaway” (thanks to local musician Paco Estrada) and CJ's desire to capture a live acoustic set for the troops.Merch & the music business – The story behind the limited‑edition “Smelly Purple” vinyl of The Elk Dividal record, why colored vinyl costs extra, and how touring, merch, and crew keep the band grounded—no mansions, just guitars and good vibes.Personal moments & fan stories – From spontaneous on‑stage jams to the joy of hearing fans reinterpret classics like “All Over Me” and “Sermon,” we hear why every show feels like a new chapter.Whether you're a die‑hard Drowning Pool fan, a musician wrestling with perfectionism, or anyone battling the ups and downs of life, this conversation reminds us that when words stumble, music steps in—and sometimes, a riff can be the therapy we didn't know we needed.Stay tuned, hit that play button, and let the music speak.

Clarity Over Comfort What changes when a man stops using alcohol to escape—and begins confronting his life with clarity? On this episode of The CJ Moneyway Show, CJ sits down with Shane Ramer, host of That Sober Guy Podcast, for a transparent conversation about sobriety, masculinity, faith, family, accountability, leadership, and the courage required to ask for help. Shane shares how alcohol became a coping mechanism for stress, relationships, responsibility, and the pressures of life. After trying to quit on his own, he reached a moment of surrender: he recognized that asking for help did not make him weak or a failure. It allowed him to begin rebuilding. Nearly thirteen years later, Shane describes a life centered on his faith, wife, children, service to other men, and the daily practices that protect his sobriety and clarity. This conversation moves beyond the idea that sobriety is only about what someone stops doing. It explores what becomes possible afterward. In this episode CJ and Shane discuss: Recognizing when alcohol is subtracting from your life Using alcohol as an escape from unresolved problems Why surrendering to God is different from giving up The difference between religion and a relationship with God Why men need trustworthy relationships Shane's experience with Twelve Step recovery Recovery stigma and the men who will never enter a traditional meeting Why connection is essential to overcoming addiction What clarity makes possible in leadership and business How better sleep, nutrition, exercise, support, and community affect performance Replacing immediate gratification with long-term discipline Learning to have authentic fun without alcohol Why environments sometimes must change before behavior can change The consequences a man's decisions can create for his family Why asking for help is not a sign of weakness The danger of victim mentality What intentional leadership looks like The biggest lie men believe about alcohol The bigger Moneyway lesson Alcohol may temporarily change how someone feels, but it does not resolve what remains underneath. The unresolved relationship is still there. The financial pressure is still there. The fear is still there. The responsibility is still there. And when the temporary escape ends, those problems often return with additional consequences. Shane's journey demonstrates that clarity does not instantly repair every part of life. It gives a man the ability to see what requires repair—and the capacity to begin doing the work. That work requires faith. It requires support. It requires repetition. It requires accountability. And it requires the willingness to make the next right decision, even when nobody is applauding. That is clarity over comfort. That is Built For Purpose. About Shane Ramer Shane Ramer is the host of That Sober Guy Podcast and the founder of the Victory Circle, a free online community supporting men who want to live without alcohol. Drawing from his own experience with addiction, Twelve Step recovery, faith, mentorship, marriage, fatherhood, and nearly thirteen years of sobriety, Shane helps men pursue greater clarity, responsibility, connection, and personal leadership. Different Minds Build Different Worlds What happens when fantasy becomes more than escape? What happens when the worlds an author creates become places where identity, difference, strength, fear, belonging, and human struggle can be explored without limits? On this episode of The CJ Moneyway Show, CJ sits down with Canadian fantasy author J.M. Shaw, a neurodivergent storyteller, mother, martial artist, psychology enthusiast, and creator of the Callum Walker series. J.M. has built an expansive fantasy universe through: • Callum Walker: The Fractured Veil • The Ascension • The Convergence • Forsaken Souls Her stories move through magical wars, fractured realms, supernatural conflict, destiny, power, and survival. But the deeper story exists beyond the fantasy. J.M. has spoken openly about autism and ADHD diagnoses within her family and about the way neurodivergence has influenced how she understands herself and the people around her. That perspective does not simply exist outside her writing. It helps shape how she sees character, motivation, difference, internal struggle, and strength. IN THIS EPISODE CJ and J.M. explore: • Where her love of storytelling began • Why fantasy became her creative home • Building the Callum Walker universe • The inspiration behind The Fractured Veil • How autism and ADHD have influenced her creative perspective • Motherhood and understanding neurodivergence as a family • Why different minds can bring different strengths to storytelling • The connection between psychology and character development • How martial arts informs discipline, conflict, movement, and resilience • Creating magical wars that reflect recognizable human struggles • Writing characters who face identity, destiny, fear, and belonging • The discipline necessary to build a multi-book fantasy saga • What she hopes readers find inside the worlds she creates THE BIGGER MONEYWAY LESSON One of the most important ideas behind this conversation is simple: Difference is not the absence of ability. Sometimes the way someone processes the world differently becomes part of the way they contribute something the world has never seen before. J.M. Shaw's journey invites us to reconsider the labels we place on people—and the assumptions we make about how intelligence, creativity, discipline, and strength are supposed to look. Your mind does not have to work like everyone else's to build something meaningful. Sometimes the different perspective becomes part of the gift. That's Built For Purpose. ABOUT J.M. SHAW J.M. Shaw is a Canadian independent fantasy author from Alberta whose creative interests include storytelling, psychology, martial arts, neurodivergence, and the construction of complex fantasy worlds. She is the creator of the Callum Walker series, which includes The Fractured Veil, The Ascension, The Convergence, and Forsaken Souls. On this episode of The CJ Moneyway Show, CJ sits down with Tom Wall, Ph.D., Wealth Strategist, Speaker, and Author of Permission to Spend. The AFC South preview is here — and DJ and Kelcey couldn't agree less on how it ends. DJ has the Houston Texans finishing 13-4 and earning the AFC's number-one seed. Kelcey has them at 9-8, second in the division behind a Jacksonville Jaguars team he's calling the worst division winner in the conference at 10-7. They picked every single regular-season game to get there, and the receipts are in this episode. The full breakdown: Tennessee is not as bad as people think. Cam Ward has never regressed year-over-year, Brian Daboll unlocks the offense in year two, and Tony Pollard quietly sits on a list of backs with four straight 1,000-yard seasons that barely has five names on it. The Titans aren't a turnaround story — but they're a genuine improvement story. The Colts are the Colts. Eight-and-two to start last year, seven straight losses to finish. Now they've traded away Michael Pittman, Alec Pierce hasn't practiced coming off surgery, and Daniel Jones is back from an Achilles but may never be the same runner. Tyler Warren is going to carry an enormous passing game load. And Kelcey is swinging on CJ Allen to win Defensive Rookie of the Year at +1800 — because the Colts have been drafting linebacker maniacs since Darius Leonard and it keeps working. Houston has the best defense in football and just added David Montgomery to finally give CJ Stroud a real run game. DJ thinks that combination pushes them to the top of the AFC. Kelcey thinks CJ still sees ghosts after last year's offensive line disaster and the close games will cost them. Jacksonville ran it back. Trevor Lawrence, top-6 MVP candidate, 31 touchdowns, 9 rushing. Liam Cohen's offense clicks. Travis Hunter is moving mostly to defense. Bhayshul Tuten takes over from Etienne. The Jaguars look like the class of the division on paper — the only question is whether the first-place schedule makes things harder than last year's soft draw. Two predictions. Four teams. Eight futures bets. No agreement on the final standings.   Follow us: @HighLowSports on X and Instagram | Full episodes at bellyupsports.com/high-low-sports-podcast

What if the real secret to longevity in real estate isn't selling more homes—but building relationships people remember long after the transaction is over? On this episode of The CJ Moneyway Show, CJ Moneyway sits down with Debbi DiMaggio, a top 1.5% Realtor nationwide, four-time author, podcast host, coach, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, for a conversation about real estate, relationships, reinvention, and the mindset required to build a career that lasts. With more than 30 years of experience, Debbi has guided people through some of life's biggest transitions—from buying a first home and preparing a property for market to relocating, downsizing, and stepping into an entirely new chapter. But this conversation is about much more than buying and selling property. Debbi and CJ explore why real estate is ultimately a people business and why trust, communication, collaboration, accountability, and service can matter just as much as market knowledge. Debbi shares her perspective on building referral relationships between agents across different markets, helping first-time buyers become better prepared, and understanding the difference between simply listing a home and intentionally positioning it for the market. The conversation also goes into an often-overlooked part of real estate: the emotions attached to transition. For seniors, families, and individuals leaving a longtime home, a move can represent far more than a change of address. It can mean letting go of memories, adjusting to a new stage of life, and making difficult decisions during an already emotional season. That requires more than a real estate professional. It requires someone who understands people. CJ and Debbi also discuss mindset, resilience, accountability, reinvention, and legacy—and what decades in business can teach us about staying relevant without losing the relationships and values that built our success in the first place. IN THIS CONVERSATION Why relationships should outlast the transaction How collaboration and referrals can expand opportunities across markets What first-time homebuyers should understand before entering the market Preparing and positioning a home to sell Why mindset and accountability matter in real estate The emotional realities of downsizing and major life transitions Supporting seniors and families with empathy Reinventing yourself throughout a long career Building a reputation rooted in service, trust, and consistency Why long-term success and legacy are ultimately about people Debbi DiMaggio's journey is a reminder that a successful career isn't measured only by what you sell. It's also measured by the relationships you build, the people you serve, and the reputation you leave behind. Listen to this conversation on The CJ Moneyway Show, available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and major podcast platforms. EPISODE KEY TAKEAWAYS Relationships create longevity. A transaction may introduce two people, but genuine relationship-building can create opportunities for years. Collaboration expands the table. Real estate professionals don't always have to compete. Strong referral networks can serve clients while creating opportunities across cities, states, and even international markets. Preparation matters for buyers. First-time homebuyers benefit from understanding their finances, expectations, and the process before they begin seriously shopping. Selling requires positioning. Preparing a home for the market means learning to see the property through the eyes of the next buyer. Mindset affects performance. Accountability, resilience, and the ability to adapt are essential when markets, clients, and circumstances change. Transitions are emotional. Downsizing, relocating, or leaving a longtime family home can carry significant emotional weight, particularly for seniors and their families. Reinvention is part of longevity. A long career requires the willingness to evolve while protecting the principles and relationships that established your reputation. Legacy extends beyond the sale. The deeper measurement of success is often found in how people remember being treated. Have you spent your life seeing yourself through other people's judgments instead of recognizing your true worth? In this episode of Porch Conversation with CJ, CJ and I explore how masculine and feminine energy influence dating, attraction, and emotional well-being. We discuss why successful women often overperform in relationships, how childhood conditioning shapes the way you see yourself, and why trying to prove your value can prevent you from receiving the love you deserve. The lesson is simple but powerful: You do not have to perform, pursue, or minimize yourself to be loved. When I help you heal the subconscious patterns controlling your choices, you can reconnect with your authentic self and begin creating the love story you truly desire. CJ and I discuss: Why God represents both masculine and feminine energy How women unintentionally give away their power in dating The emotional cost of carrying the masculine role Why your energy speaks before you say a word How childhood pain creates a "borrowed observer" The difference between receiving love and performing for love Why trying to impress a man can push you out of alignment How emotional blocks affect love and connection Breaking painful cycles after rejection or heartbreak Rewiring the subconscious patterns keeping you stuck You were never meant to prove that you are worthy of love. You were meant to heal, receive, and stand confidently in the truth of who you are. — Shay Founder, Bonding Biology Institute™

CJ explores the difference between deterministic computing, where instructions lead to defined outcomes, and probabilistic AI, which uses learned patterns to predict what is most likely to come next. And suddenly, AI begins to look surprisingly human. How often do we do the same thing? We bring our histories, assumptions, habits, and emotional patterns into a conversation and begin predicting what someone means before they have finished speaking. We formulate our response while the other person's mouth is still moving. Instead of responding to what is actually happening, we respond to what we expect to happen.True listening asks something different of us.For the Spiritual Artist, the practice is to align, listen, and then respond. To become present enough to notice when prediction has replaced perception.Perhaps one of the unexpected things AI can teach us isn't found in its extraordinary capabilities, but in its limitations. By seeing the machinery of prediction so clearly in AI, we may begin to recognize the same machinery operating within ourselves. And yes, Soma eventually calmed down.Want to learn more about CJ Miller? This week, I'm back in my own space after a whirlwind of travel, and I'm reflecting on what it means to find stability when everything seems to change at lightning speed. From airport delays to marathon mountain climbs, this episode dives deep into the unexpected twists that life throws our way, and how a steady, guiding presence can make all the difference. At the center of our conversation is Elder Holmes' talk, “Jesus Christ Is the Way.” I share a personal story about my friend CJ, who is blind, and the remarkable systems and support (including a sighted guide) that allow him to navigate life's challenges. But what if Christ isn't just the guide—what if He's actually the path itself? This idea has me asking how we lean into His support and access the comfort and assurance only He can offer, especially when plans fall apart. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences—how do you hold onto your Guide when life takes an unexpected turn?Join me as we unpack these questions, and let's keep moving forward, holding on to the Savior who's more than a guide—He's the very way through every mountain and marathon we face. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. Jeff Howe and CJ Vogel explain why Will Muschamp's Texas defense possesses enough talent to help win a national championship—but also carries significant risk as it transitions into a more aggressive system. The guys break down the potential for explosive plays, the importance of creating havoc and the unanswered questions at linebacker and in the secondary. They also discuss Brad Spence's ideal role, the enormous expectations facing the special-teams units and why the left guard battle remains Texas' biggest concern entering fall camp. The conversation expands to the preseason Coaches Poll, where Texas landed at No. 4, and why Longhorn fans should embrace championship expectations rather than fear them. Plus, Jeff and CJ reveal their College Football Playoff, SEC and Heisman dark horses—including Florida, Missouri, Louisville, Houston, Washington, Penn State, Demond Williams Jr. and Drew Mestemaker—and examine the schedules that could produce college football's biggest surprise teams.
