Doctor Gedney spent thirty years as a prison doctor, and recently published a book on her experiences in the prison system. In 1991, she set out on a decorated and devoted career with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, rising in the ranks of the department from deputy, to sergeant, to lieutenant, to captain. Ms. Howe served 20 of her 30 years in supervisory positions, overseeing a vast range of responsibilities including, but not limited too: hostage negotiation, district courts, officer recruitment, crime scene operations and training. She has managed a team of 350 law enforcement professionals, a 56 million dollar budget, the custody of more than 1,300 adult detainees, and oversaw the 20 million dollar jail expansion from breaking ground to ribbon cutting.
