In today's episode we're talking to Anne Margolis - Certified and Licensed Home Birth Midwife, Licensed OB/GYN nurse practitioner, practicing prenatal yogi, home birth expert and creator of HomeSweetHomeBirth.com. Anne believes in a healthy woman's innate ability to give birth normally, naturally and with pleasure despite the challenges. She is devoted to protecting undisturbed physiological labor and birth, and, after our conversation, you'll see that she is a wealth of knowledge and resources! It's really exciting when things you put out into the Universe come together. That's how I feel about this episode. I had been following Anne Margolis of Home Sweet Home Birth for a while. I love the work she does and her influence of empowering women around holistic birth. With over 21 years of experience as a home birth midwife, more certifications than I have fingers, knowledge in all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and not to mention an Instagram following of over 47,000 people, it's safe to say that Anne is a leader in the space of home birth. I knew we had to have her on the show. When we finally connected, it's so easy to see how Anne has touched so many lives. I could sit and listen to her talk for hours. Anne has 4 children: 2 born in a hospital and 2 born at home (in that order). She brings the perspective of not only giving birth in a hospital, but also working in one as an obstetric nurse - an experience which oddly enough created a lot of fear for her around giving birth. When she made the switch to midwifery and eventually opened up her own home birth practice, she describes it like “coming home.” Anne is brilliant, personable and funny. This interview is chock-full of great quotes, tidbits of information and morsels on resources for you all to take advantage of. I say listen to this one with a notepad and pen. Listen, pause and re-listen. It's a great one! This week we are talking to Jaimee and Nicole from Home Sweet Home Birth in Canterbury. They are two mums from North Canterbury, who have an incredible six children under five between them, four of whom have been born at home! They created Home Sweet Home Birth to make home birth prep that little bit easier for those interested. They can put together birth kits, which are available to hire as well as offering support to mums considering home birth, this support comes in the form of answering any questions, offering home birth planning sessions, doula support, or if needed sibling doula support too. Childbirth is seen as a miracle. A time to rejoice because the love of two fellow human beings has brought a new life to cherish into this world. Unfortunately today, instead of a miracle childbirth is seen as a painful necessity where women are pumped full of drugs and pure oxygen that they have no recollection of the birth even taking place. In fact most women fear childbirth so much that C sections have become common place which denies the child their first and most important influx of bacteria that is present in the vaginal canal. The truth is childbirth need not be an excruciatingly painful episode to fret and fear and to prove this to you I have got Anne Margolis on the show today to talk about exactly how you can make giving birth as stress free as possible. The topic is actually far too large for just one show so what we are going to do is break it down into 2 or 3 shows so we can cover all the bases. In this episode we covered: Anne’s Story Of Abuse & Major Adult Stresses Anne’s Own Experience With 2 Traumatic Birth Experiences How To Give Birth Naturally Without Unnecessary Medical Or Surgical Intervention Anne’s Postpartum Breakdown & Recovery What Really Healed Her & Her Clients How To Love The Experience Of Giving Birth & Let Whatever Unfolds Flow & Much More This show is a must listen for any women who is currently pregnant or who is looking to conceive in the near future.
