Read OnlineThe scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus, “The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers, and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same; but yours eat and drink.” Jesus answered them, “Can you make the wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them, then they will fast in those days.” Luke 5:33–35Though most of the scribes and Pharisees rejected the ministry of John the Baptist, here they attempt to use his discipline of fasting as a weapon to criticize Jesus. But our Lord, perceiving the hollowness of their accusation, turns it into an opportunity for divine revelation. He discloses to them, and to us, a profound truth about His identity: He is the Bridegroom.By doing so, Jesus draws from the rich prophetic imagery of Isaiah and Hosea, which portrays God as the divine Spouse of Israel. Isaiah declared, “As a bridegroom rejoices in his bride so shall your God rejoice in you” (Isaiah 62:5). Hosea, speaking the word of the Lord, proclaimed, “You shall call me ‘My husband'… I will betroth you to me forever” (cf. Hosea 2:18–22).Jesus is not merely using a poetic image. By calling Himself the Bridegroom, He reveals a nuptial mystery: Christ comes in the flesh to unite Himself to His Bride, the Church. The proper response to His presence is not fasting in sorrow but rejoicing in the wedding feast. Fasting will have its place, but only once the Bridegroom is taken away, which is a prophetic reference to His Passion. This exchange exposes not only the Pharisees' superficial religiosity but also unveils a central mystery of salvation: In Christ, God draws near in spousal love. To follow Him is to enter into a covenant of joy and grace.Though nuptial imagery might seem more naturally relatable to women, it expresses a truth that transcends gender. Just as “a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body” (Genesis 2:24), so each soul is called to a transforming union with Christ. This is not merely symbolic; it is a real and spiritual union. We are called to become His Mystical Body. Saint Paul captures this mystery when he writes, “I have been crucified with Christ; yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me” (Galatians 2:19–20).Traditionally, this union has been described as Mystical Marriage or Divine Union. Saint Teresa of Ávila favored the image of Mystical Marriage, emphasizing the soul's intimate, spousal love for Christ. Saint John of the Cross more often spoke of Divine Union, highlighting the complete transformation of the soul in God. Though they use different terms, both describe the soul's ultimate vocation: perfect union with Christ. In Heaven, when this Divine Union is fully realized, fasting and other penitential acts will be unnecessary. During Jesus' earthly ministry, the disciples did not fast because the Bridegroom was with them—an extraordinary grace unique to those three years. But after He was “taken away,” fasting took on a new importance, becoming a participation in His Passion and a preparation for the Wedding Feast to come.Reflect today on the glorious end to which you are called: union with Christ, your Bridegroom. This journey requires sacrifice, so fasting and penance remain essential. Yet when we keep our eyes fixed on the joy of Divine Union, every sacrifice becomes lighter and a joyful embrace of love. The difficulty of fasting and penance is overshadowed by the union they help bring about. Resolve to fast, to pray, and to stay close to Christ, the Bridegroom of your soul. He is the faithful Spouse who will never abandon you.Bridegroom of Your Church, You came to enter into union with us, Your sons and daughters by grace. By Your Incarnation, You wedded Yourself to humanity, and through Your Passion, You purified Your Bride, the Church. As I journey toward the Wedding Feast of Heaven, purify me now through acts of penance and prayer, so that my soul may be ready for the Divine Union to come. Jesus, I trust in You. What does it look like when beekeeping equipment moves from an idea in the bee yard to full-scale manufacturing? In this Beekeeping Today Podcast Short, Jeff Ott takes listeners onto the production floor at Premier Bee Products in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Premier founder Jeff Johnson explains how the company approached woodenware manufacturing with a clean slate, borrowing technology and techniques from industries such as cabinetmaking to produce frames and hive bodies with speed, precision, and consistency. The conversation also traces Premier's beginnings in plastic foundation and Johnson's philosophy of allowing honey bees—not manufacturing convenience—to help determine product design. That same approach eventually led Premier to explore research on the honey bee propolis envelope and develop its Propolis Hive. Jeff and Jeff also discuss Premier's use of half-blind dovetail joints in hive bodies and the story behind the Legacy Lid, developed by Missouri beekeeper and woodworker Bill George. It's a field report about much more than manufacturing. It's a look at what can happen when beekeepers, researchers, engineers, and manufacturers approach familiar problems from a different direction. ______________ Brought to you by Betterbee – your partners in better beekeeping. https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260903dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? Romans 8:24 Saved In Hope When you say, “I hope so,” what do you mean? “I hope the traffic isn’t bad…I hope it doesn’t rain.” It’s a wish more than a guarantee. That is not the hope in our Bible verse today: “In this hope we were saved.” Notice the tense. We were saved. Jesus has already accomplished everything necessary for our salvation. On the cross, he declared, “It is finished.” He paid for every sin. He declared that whoever believes in him already has eternal life. So, if we are already saved, why do we still hope? Because while our salvation is complete, it has not yet been fully revealed. We possess God’s promises by faith, but we have not yet seen their fulfillment with our eyes. Think of a child on Christmas Eve. The gifts are already under the tree. They can see their name on the presents. Yet the child still waits eagerly for morning, longing to unwrap what has already been bought. So, too, our inheritance is already ours because of Christ. Yet we eagerly await the day when every promise is opened before us. That is why Paul says, “Hope that is seen is no hope at all.” If we could already see heaven, there would be no need for hope. If our bodies had already been raised, there would be no need for waiting. But we're not there yet. So, what do we do now? We live by God's promises, trusting that God's Word speaks a reality greater than what our eyes can see. A hospital room doesn’t look like victory, but Jesus says, “Your body will rise.” Tears of loneliness shed on a pillow don't look comforting, but Jesus says, “You are my child.” One day hope will no longer be necessary. Faith will become sight when we see Jesus’ face and rejoice in the glory that cannot be compared to present suffering. Until that day, we live in hope—not because we are guessing what the future holds, but because we know the One who holds the future. Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for accomplishing my salvation completely. When my eyes are fixed on the troubles of this world, turn my heart again to your sure promises. Amen. Sprint NOW to LIVE Longer Podcast | VyVerse.comFIVE PRIMARY POINTS of the PODCASTCoffee is a powerful vitality enhancer. New data from 2,264 people found that each additional cup of coffee was associated with roughly 2% higher testosterone in men, while both men and women who drank more coffee tended to have less body fat and more skeletal muscle. Other research links coffee with lower inflammation, better gut health, less depression, younger biological age, and improved focus.Blueberries are brain food. Research suggests blueberries can improve memory, executive function, processing speed, attention, and brain blood flow. Studies cited in the podcast found cognitive benefits in both middle-aged adults at increased dementia risk and school-aged children. Roughly half a cup of blueberries may be enough to provide meaningful benefits.Vitality is a gift you give yourself. Vitality is defined as “purposeful, energetic, and connected living.” Developing it begins by creating space to think, becoming more intentional with time, and defining a clear personal purpose. A concise purpose acts as a filter for deciding what deserves your time and energy.Protect your energy and invest in your relationships. Daily energy depends heavily on discipline, sleep, and fitness. Eliminate “life leaks” such as mindless scrolling and minimize time with “energy vampires.” Instead, invest that energy in meaningful work and the people you love—put down the phone, listen closely, serve others, and treat important relationships like “precious jewels.”Vitality is a skill—and awareness is the first step. You can deliberately train your physical, mental, social, and spiritual well-being through practices ranging from exercise and weight management to recovery, stress reduction, optimism, and meaningful connection. Start by honestly identifying what you are doing well and what needs improvement, then take ownership and make one decisive first move.Copyright, VyVerse, LLC. All Rights Reserved. Marvin Barth joins Niels Kaastrup-Larsen and Cem Karsan for a wide-ranging debate about the Fed, inflation and the growing pressures on the US economy. Barth argues that central bankers have become too confident in models that cannot fully capture reality, while the conversation quickly turns to Kevin Warsh, Scott Bessent and the power of signaling in financial markets. From there, Cem and Marvin "clash" over austerity, debt monetization, populism and inequality before examining why inflation expectations may matter more than individual shocks. We round this super energetic conversation by exploring the coming historic El Niño, commodity disruptions and what Warsh's recent dovish turn could reveal about the future of Fed policy.-----50 YEARS OF TREND FOLLOWING BOOK AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO FOR ACCREDITED INVESTORS - CLICK HERE-----Follow Niels on Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or via the TTU website.IT's TRUE ? – most CIO's read 50+ books each year – get your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide to the Best Investment Books ever written here. And you can get a free copy of my latest book “Ten Reasons to Add Trend Following to Your Portfolio” here.Learn more about the Trend Barometer here.Send your questions to info@toptradersunplugged.comAnd please share this episode with a like-minded friend and leave an honest Rating & Review on iTunes or Spotify so more people can discover the podcast.Follow Cem on Twitter.Follow Marvin on LinkedIn.Episode TimeStamps: 00:00 - Why inflation expectations matter more than anything else01:05 - Introducing Marvin Barth04:46 - From salmon fishing to the Federal Reserve09:09 - Has central banking become too confident in its own models?16:25 - Bessent, Warsh and what Treasury buybacks really mean18:15 - Why signaling may matter more than the actual policy25:56 - Can the US actually solve its debt problem through austerity?31:25 - Debt, inflation, China and the pressures building in the system35:31 - Is there another way out for the US economy?40:29 - The big debate over populism and inequality47:39 - Free markets, fairness and who actually benefits57:59 - Why inflation ultimately comes down to expectations59:46 - Austerity versus monetizing the debt01:02:06 - How El Niño could reshape inflation and emerging markets01:11:26 - Has Kevin Warsh already changed course at the Fed?Copyright © 2025 – CMC AG – All Rights Reserved----PLUS: Whenever you're ready... here are 3 ways I can help you in your investment Journey:1. eBooks that cover key topics that you need to know about In my eBooks, I put together some key discoveries and things I have learnt during the more than 3 decades I have worked in the Trend Following industry, which I hope you will find useful. Read OnlineWhile the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret. He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Luke 5:1–4At that moment, Simon could not have grasped the full significance of Jesus' actions. Our Lord chose to preach to the crowds from the boat “belonging to Simon.” When He had finished speaking, He turned to Simon and said, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.”Traditionally, the boat has been understood as a symbol of the Church. It is particularly meaningful that this first use of a boat in Jesus' public ministry involved Simon's vessel. Later in Luke's Gospel, Jesus says: “Simon, Simon, behold Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat, but I have prayed that your own faith may not fail; and once you have turned back, you must strengthen your brothers” (Luke 22:31–32).In this powerful passage, Jesus entrusts Simon with the unique mission of leadership and fraternal support. Though Simon would stumble during the Passion, his faith would be restored, and his role confirmed, not merely as a disciple, but as one called to fortify the faith of others. This divine commission echoes the symbolic act at the Lake of Gennesaret, where Simon's boat becomes the pulpit from which the Word is proclaimed. And, as is recorded in Matthew's Gospel, Jesus later changed Simon's name to Peter, making him the rock foundation upon which He would build His Church, promising the gates of hell would not prevail against it (cf. Matthew 16:17–19).By choosing Simon's boat, Jesus foreshadowed that the Gospel would go forth from the Church, built upon Simon Peter's faith and leadership. Christ remains the cornerstone, yet Simon would serve as the rock: a foundational witness whose confession and fidelity would uphold the apostolic Church. This moment by the lake is far more than a simple teaching setting. It is a prophetic image of the Church: anchored by Peter, guided by Christ, and commissioned to cast its nets into the deep waters of the world, drawing souls into the Kingdom of God. Christ alone has the power to draw all people to Himself, yet He chooses to do so through Peter, his successors, and all faithful collaborators who serve as fishers of men.As the passage continues, Simon obeys Jesus' command and puts out into deep water. The result is an astonishing catch that is so abundant that the nets begin to tear. Others must come to help, a clear symbol of the necessary collaboration among all members of the Church, working together in Christ's divinely guided mission. We, too, are called to share in that same mission and to imitate Simon's humility upon witnessing the miraculous catch. He fell at Jesus' feet and cried out, “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man” (Luke 5:8). He was deeply humbled and recognized his unworthiness before the divine presence.Jesus, however, looked upon Simon and those with him, including Andrew, James, and John, and said, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men” (Luke 5:10). These words are meant for each of us. Fear is often the greatest obstacle to fully embracing God's call. But when we respond with humility and courage, trusting in His grace, we will find ourselves part of the great mission to draw others into the safety of the Church. Reflect today on the sacred image of Simon's boat. See in it a foreshadowing of the Church, and consider how you are called to serve within her. Christ continues to preach from this vessel, to call others into its safety, and to call you to cast your net into the deep where many souls await the Gospel and God's mercy.All-powerful Lord, You first preached from a humble fishing boat owned by Simon. Today, You continue to preach and reach out to those caught in the deep and turbulent waters of this world. Please send me, as You later sent Simon Peter, to bring Your Gospel to those who need it most. Purify me of every fear, so that I may answer Your call with courage and zeal. This month on Winning at Honey with Stephanie, Stephanie Slater turns her attention to a honey show category that doesn't appear at every competition: pollen. Preparing pollen for competition requires more than simply collecting it from a pollen trap. Stephanie walks through what judges look for, including cleanliness, proper moisture, aroma and flavor, consistent fill levels, and a colorful variety of pollen. She also shares lessons from her own first pollen entry—and the judge's comment card that showed her where she could improve. You'll learn how Stephanie collects and freezes pollen, uses a fan to separate lighter debris, hand-cleans small batches with tweezers, and prepares jars for judging. She also explains why you should bring extra pollen to the show to correct settling and fill levels before submitting your entry. Stephanie also discusses balancing pollen collection with the nutritional needs of the colony, including her practice of activating traps for only 24 hours before giving the bees several days of unrestricted pollen collection. Finally, this month's Honey Show Spotlight looks at upcoming competitions in Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and the 2026 Missouri State Beekeepers Association Fall Conference, where Stephanie will be helping with the honey show. Whether you're preparing your first pollen entry or looking for another category to add to your show bench, it's time to start cleaning those pollen pellets! Blue skies and blue ribbons! https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260902dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. Romans 8:23 Groan With Hope The Bible calls the blessings we receive as Christians (for example, the peace of forgiveness) the “firstfruits.” The full harvest is coming. We have not experienced all the blessings that God promised. Therefore, we still battle temptations and fight our sinful nature. We still feel the aches of aging bodies. Because sin has left its mark on us, we groan. But the Christian’s groan is different. The world hopes things might get better. The Christian groans with certainty. We know things will get better. Our groaning is not the cry of someone abandoned by God. It is the longing of a child waiting to go home. The apostle Paul says we wait for “the redemption of our bodies.” What a wonderful promise! God is not interested only in saving our souls. Jesus redeemed the whole person. The same body that grows tired and eventually dies will be raised in glory. On the Last Day, Christ will transform our lowly bodies to be like his glorious body. No disease. No disability. No pain. No death. Only perfect life in the presence of our Savior. How can we be so sure? Because Jesus has already walked this path. He groaned under the weight of our sin. He endured the agony of the cross. His body was laid in a grave. But on the third day, he rose. His resurrection is God’s guarantee that ours is coming. His resurrection was the firstfruit of others to come. Until then, we do not pretend life is easy. We bring our griefs, disappointments, and fears to our Savior. We groan and pray fervently. And we wait eagerly, knowing that every day brings us one step closer to the moment when our groans are drowned out by the song of victory that God’s children will one day sing forever. Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for making me your child through faith in Jesus. When I grow weary under the burdens of this life, strengthen my hope as I wait for the resurrection of my body and the joy of living forever in your presence. Through Jesus Christ, my risen Savior. Full Text of Readings Memorial of Saint Gregory the Great, Pope and Doctor of the Church Lectionary: 434 The Saint of the day is Saint Gregory the Great Saint Gregory the Great's Story Saint Gregory the Great was the prefect of Rome before he was 30. After five years in office he resigned, founded six monasteries on his Sicilian estate, and became a Benedictine monk in his own home at Rome. Ordained a priest, Gregory became one of the pope's seven deacons, and also served six years in the East as papal representative in Constantinople. He was recalled to become abbot, but at the age of 50 was elected pope by the clergy and people of Rome. Gregory was direct and firm. He removed unworthy priests from office, forbade taking money for many services, emptied the papal treasury to ransom prisoners of the Lombards and to care for persecuted Jews and the victims of plague and famine. He was very concerned about the conversion of England, sending 40 monks from his own monastery. He is known for his reform of the liturgy, and for strengthening respect for doctrine. Whether he was largely responsible for the revision of “Gregorian” chant is disputed. Saint Gregory the Great lived in a time of perpetual strife with invading Lombards and difficult relations with the East. When Rome itself was under attack, he interviewed the Lombard king. His book, Pastoral Care, on the duties and qualities of a bishop, was read for centuries after his death. He described bishops mainly as physicians whose main duties were preaching and the enforcement of discipline. In his own down-to-earth preaching, Gregory was skilled at applying the daily Gospel to the needs of his listeners. Called “the Great,” Gregory has been given a place with Augustine, Ambrose, and Jerome, as one of the four key doctors of the Western Church. An Anglican historian has written: “It is impossible to conceive what would have been the confusion, the lawlessness, the chaotic state of the Middle Ages without the medieval papacy; and of the medieval papacy, the real father is Gregory the Great.” Reflection Gregory was content to be a monk, but he willingly served the Church in other ways when asked. He sacrificed his own preferences in many ways, especially when he was called to be Bishop of Rome. Once he was called to public service, Gregory gave his considerable energies completely to this work. Gregory's description of bishops as physicians fits in well with Pope Francis' description of the Church as a “field hospital.”Saint of the Day, Copyright Franciscan Media

America is incredibly unique. Our system of government allows for wonderful real-time examples of what works and what doesn't when it comes to human flourishing, freedom, and citizen engagement. Each state can be viewed as a laboratory of democracy as policies promoted by state governments positively or negatively impact citizens. We have seen an incredible population redistribution happening in our country as highly populated states like New York or California are losing residents and other states like Florida or Texas are gaining residents. The promise of abundant life is so beautiful and is available to ANY follower of Christ. But why do so many feel like their spiritual life is lacking? Why is it that so many Christians stay stuck in cycles of defeat or patterns of sin? Long-time friend of the ministry, Dustin Renz joined us in our chapel and brought a message that dealt with this very question. Scripture taken from the New King James Version®. https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260902dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. Have an idea or tip? Send us a text!AI can generate a believable image in seconds, so why does real photography still matter, and how do working photographers protect what they create? We're joined by Angela Kurkian, CEO of Professional Photographers of America (PPA), to talk about the parts of the job that don't show up in a highlight reel: Building a sustainable photography business, finding community, and defending your rights as a creator.Kurkian and Gary Pageau of The Dead Pixels Society dig into what makes PPA different as one of the oldest nonprofit photography associations, including the mission to support photographers as small business owners and the idea of serving both the creative artist and the business warrior. She shares her own path through the industry, what she learned in a high-volume studio, and why so many photographers struggle when pricing becomes a guessing game. Kurkian also get practical about tools and benchmarks that help you plan revenue, cost of sales, expenses, and owner pay so a photographer's rates match the life they desire.Kurkian also talks about industry pressure points, like AI in photography and copyright. She explains why PPA's advocacy in Washington, DC focuses on intellectual property, what photographers misunderstand about copyright registration, and why AI-generated headshots and images raise real ownership and enforcement questions. We also cover where to get vetted education and community support through PPA, including Photovision and local networks. The Dead Pixels Society Podcast is powered by ScanMyPhotos, serving the photo industry for more than 30 years.ScanMyPhotosScanMyPhotos provides professional digitization services for photos, negatives, slides, and more Energize your sales with Shareme.chat, the proven texting platform. An encore of episode 275, featuring stories about the forces fighting offshore wind in the United States, the health benefits of cycling, Saskatchewan's decision to keep burning coal until 2050, and a listener taking the province to court over its climate policies. We also look at expiring U.S. clean-energy tax credits, the falling cost of solar, EV charging across Europe, and plenty of clean-energy developments in the Lightning Round. Highlights: • Offshore wind faces a growing wave of lawsuits in the U.S., with fossil-fuel interests and climate-denial groups linked to some of the opposition. • New research finds cycling is associated with lower risks of dementia and Alzheimer's disease. • Saskatchewan plans to continue coal power until 2050, prompting legal action from climate advocates. • U.S. homeowners face expiring clean-energy tax credits, including EV incentives. • A thought experiment looks at what it would cost to power the electrified world with solar. • A European listener explains how charging apps can help EV drivers find the cheapest way to charge. • A listener takes us on an EV road trip through northern Canada with charging available along major highways. • The Lightning Round delivers a rapid-fire look at surging solar and wind generation, batteries, EV adoption, China's clean-energy growth, air pollution, land use, and more. The Lightning Round: Green power surges in the UK, solar reaches new heights in Greece and the Netherlands, California batteries meet a huge share of evening demand, China's battery storage passes 100 GW, EV adoption takes off in Turkey, and a 740,000-kilometre EV proves that even the Canadian North is becoming electric. What happens when someone uses your photograph without permission? Who actually owns the copyright? Should you register every photo you take? What happens when a client wants the RAW files? And what legal protection do you really have when another photographer, contractor, client, magazine, or business uses your work? For Episode 700 of Beyond the Image, James Patrick sits down with attorney Wendy Neal for a deep dive into copyright, trademarks, licensing, contracts, infringement, and protecting the intellectual property behind a photography business. With 27 years of legal experience spanning intellectual property litigation, technology, corporate law, trademarks, and copyright, Wendy breaks down what photographers actually need to understand about protecting their work and their business identity. In this conversation, we cover: • Copyright vs. trademarks: What each protects and why photographers need to understand the difference • When copyright begins: Why you generally own the copyright the moment you create a photograph • Copyright registration: Why registration can dramatically increase your leverage when your work is infringed • Statutory damages: What they are, why registration timing matters, and how damages can range from hundreds to potentially six figures per infringement • Published vs. unpublished photographs: What "published" actually means under copyright law • Photo licensing: Why giving a client access to a photograph does not necessarily mean giving them ownership • License scope: How usage, duration, advertising, publicity, internal use, and other rights can be clearly defined • Copyright infringement: What happens when someone uses your photograph without permission • Cease-and-desist letters: Whether you need to send one before pursuing damages or other remedies • Clients exceeding their license: How photographers can address unauthorized usage without immediately jumping into litigation • Third-party infringement: Who may be liable when a client passes your photographs to a magazine, company, or another organization without having the right to do so • Second shooters and contractors: Why photographers need written agreements when other photographers create images for their business • Work made for hire: What the term actually means and why simply "hiring" another photographer does not automatically transfer copyright ownership • Employee vs. independent contractor copyright: A critical distinction for photography businesses with teams • RAW files: Why handing over RAW files is a much bigger issue than simply giving a client another file format • Buyouts and exclusive rights: What photographers are actually giving up when they sell broader rights to their images • AI and derivative works: What can happen when clients modify, filter, alter, or transform photographs • Trademarking your photography business: Why trademark considerations should begin before you settle on a business name • Personal names as trademarks: What photographers should understand when their business operates under their own name • Social media handles and domain names: Why owning a trademark does not automatically mean you can claim every corresponding username • Photography contracts: How clearly defining rights can prevent disputes before they happen • Pricing licensing: Why photographers should think about the value of usage rather than simply charging for "the photo" • Finding stolen images: Reverse image searches, emerging technologies, and ways photographers can monitor unauthorized use • Legal support for small businesses: Why getting an attorney involved early can often prevent much more expensive problems later This is a conversation about much more than copyright law. It's about understanding what you own, what you're selling, what you're licensing, what your clients can do with your work, and how to build contracts and systems that protect your photography business. If you're a professional photographer, commercial photographer, portrait photographer, wedding photographer, creative entrepreneur, or anyone whose business depends on original visual work, this is an episode you'll want to save and revisit. About Wendy Neal Wendy Neal, Esq. is an attorney with 27 years of experience working across intellectual property, copyright, trademark, technology, corporate, and transactional law. Read OnlineThe Power of His WordAfter Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon. Simon's mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever, and they interceded with him about her. He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up immediately and waited on them. Luke 4:38–39In today's Gospel, we encounter the first mention of Simon—whose name Jesus would later change to Peter—in Luke's account. Simon was likely present in the synagogue and witnessed Jesus cast out a demon from a possessed man. With a simple command, “Be quiet! Come out of him!”, Jesus revealed His divine authority. The people were astonished and exclaimed, “What is there about his word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out” (Luke 4:35–36).Having seen His authority firsthand, Simon presumably spoke to Jesus about his mother-in-law, who was suffering from a severe fever. It is striking to imagine the moment of Simon's first personal encounter with the Lord. Though Jesus, in His divine foresight, knew what Simon would one day become—the first pope entrusted with the spiritual authority of Heaven—Simon himself could not have foreseen how radically his life was about to change.Upon entering Simon's home, Jesus rebuked the fever. The Greek word used here, epitimaō, is the same word used in the previous passage when Jesus rebuked the demon. This deliberate parallel reveals that both the spiritual and physical realms are subject to Jesus' command. What He rebuked were real evils and disorders: demonic possession as a violation of the soul and the fever as a natural affliction of the body.Later in this Gospel passage, Jesus continues healing many who are sick and casting out demons. Once again, He rebukes the demons, silencing them and forbidding them to speak. Though they cry out, “You are the Son of God,” Jesus does not permit them to bear witness to Him. He has no need of demons to proclaim His identity. His revelation will come in His time, by His own design, especially through the Cross and Resurrection.Jesus' rebukes, whether uttered by a word, expressed through a gesture, or conveyed by His mere presence, are divine actions against evil. They are not expressions of wishful hope, but authoritative, efficacious commands. What He speaks comes to be. His word is not just powerful; it accomplishes what it declares.Understanding this is foundational to our life of faith and our spiritual journey. When we turn to Christ with trust, we must believe that His word has the power to heal, to free, and to transform. He does not speak in vain. His authority extends to every dimension of our lives, body, soul, and spirit, and He desires to restore all that has been wounded by sin, suffering, or disorder. One of the most tangible and powerful ways this takes place today is through the words of absolution spoken by the priest in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, a spiritual authority first given to Simon Peter and passed down through apostolic succession. The words of absolution are Christ's words, words that rebuke sin and its effects, restoring the soul to grace and peace. They are divine actions that accomplish what they signify.Though the words of absolution may be the clearest example, every Sacrament—Baptism, Confirmation, the Eucharist, Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony—conveys God's grace and power through the efficacious word and action of Christ.Reflect today on your own trust in the power of Jesus' word. Do you believe He can rebuke the disorders in your life with divine authority? Do you turn to Him with confidence in the Sacraments, knowing that what He speaks, He accomplishes? Surrender all that afflicts you to the power of His Word, and allow Him to restore you to grace, relying especially on the sacramental authority given to Simon Peter and exercised by the priests who have followed after. My authoritative Lord, when You speak, what You speak comes to be. Speak to me, Lord. Rebuke my sin and weakness, so that Your holy will may be accomplished in my life. Let me hear Your voice, especially in the Sacraments through which Your mercy is poured forth and Your power is made manifest. Jesus, I trust in You. Ever since the earliest known recording of whale song was made in 1949, researchers have been captivated by the wails, rumbles, clicks, grunts and squeals of their communication. As technology improves, scientists are decoding the intricate patterns that make different species' vocalisations distinctive. Madeleine Finlay hears from Emma Bryce, a journalist who has spent months investigating human efforts to understand whale song. She explains how this knowledge could help us better protect whales from human-made harms. Credits: 1. Copyright 1978 National Geographic Society and 1977 Capitol Records, Inc. https://wels2.blob.core.windows.net/daily-devotions/20260901dev.mp3 Listen to Devotion For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed . . . the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Romans 8:19,22 Creation Can’t Wait Have you ever noticed how often the world reminds us that something isn’t right? Wildfires scorch forests. Tornadoes uproot trees. Droughts wither crops. Pretty soon, depending on where you live, the beauty of creation will fade with the changing seasons. Sometimes we speak of nature as though it is simply running its course. But the Bible tells us that creation is groaning. It wasn’t always this way. When God completed his work of creation, he declared that everything was “very good” (Genesis 1:31). There was no death. No decay. No storms. No disease. The world reflected the perfection of its Creator. Then Adam and Eve sinned. When humanity fell, the curse reached far beyond Adam and Eve. God said, “Cursed is the ground because of you” (Genesis 3:17). Thorns and thistles appeared. Death entered. Since then, every hurricane, every broken body, every dying tree, and every cemetery has proclaimed the same truth: sin has affected everything. Yet, there is hope. Creation is waiting for the day when Christ returns to reveal his children. The created world knows, in a way beyond our understanding, that its own freedom is tied to ours. When Jesus raises the dead and makes all things new, creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay. That means the groaning of creation is not the groan of despair but of eager expectation. Just as a mother experiences labor pains in anticipation of celebrating a new life, so does this world. Therefore, we can look at natural disasters differently. We are not left without hope. Every time we see creation suffer, we are pointed to the One who is coming to restore it. When he does, the curse will be lifted, and we will enjoy a new creation forever. Therefore, with creation, we can’t wait. Prayer: Lord Jesus, when I see the brokenness of this world, remind me that you have already conquered sin, death, and the curse. Give me confidence to endure the groaning of this present age as I wait for the glory you have promised. Amen. Daily Devotions is brought to you by WELS.
