Hosea, a contemporary of Isaiah (for most of his ministry) and Amos (in his earlier years) was the Jeremiah of the Northern Kingdom. His main target was the Northern Kingdom, yet his message was for the people of God. When Solomon died, Jeroboam rebelled and plunged the Northern Kingdom into a prosperous but idolatrous separation. After two centuries of abandoning their heritage, God sent Hosea to present His indictment and declare that He would use their enemies as His judgment. Amos was sent to Israel at a time when the nation feels militarily secure and prosperous, yet is turning to idolatry and abandoning their heritage. Misplaced confidence; false sense of security; abandonment of the greatness of their nation... (Sounds familiar, doesn't it?) In many ways a complement to Hosea, this perspective on the plight of Israel parallels the predicament of our country today. This study contains 13 hours of verse by verse teachings. In this city, the church bells toll without reason, the dead won't rest, and something ancient hums just beneath the surface.THE TRUE CRIME CASE THIS STORY IS BASED ON: On Sunday, October 13, 1867, Ferdinand Hoffman fatally stabbed his ex-wife, Caroline Yost, inside the German Reformed Church in Canton, Ohio. The attack occurred after Hoffman, recently released from prison, followed Yost into the church and confronted her behind the belfry door. Witnesses reported hearing screams as Hoffman fled, leaving Yost with eighteen stab wounds. Yost, who had divorced Hoffman after years of reported abuse and his repeated arrests for crimes including counterfeiting and theft, survived for nearly a week before succumbing to her injuries. The tip of Hoffman's knife had broken off during the attack, lessening the severity of later wounds. Hoffman was captured shortly after the stabbing by a group of citizens who prevented a lynching. He was held in jail awaiting murder charges. Authorities reported that Hoffman expressed no remorse, stating he regretted not killing Yost outright. The morning after Yost's death, Hoffman was found dead in his cell, having hanged himself with a bedsheet. Portfolio manager Lance Roberts, like Felix Zulauf, thinks the markets will remain volatile until Fall.Stocks will bounce, but then retreat, likely re-testing the lows made earlier this month.For many, this will be frustrating. Hosea, a contemporary of Isaiah (for most of his ministry) and Amos (in his earlier years) was the Jeremiah of the Northern Kingdom. His main target was the Northern Kingdom, yet his message was for the people of God. When Solomon died, Jeroboam rebelled and plunged the Northern Kingdom into a prosperous but idolatrous separation. After two centuries of abandoning their heritage, God sent Hosea to present His indictment and declare that He would use their enemies as His judgment. Amos was sent to Israel at a time when the nation feels militarily secure and prosperous, yet is turning to idolatry and abandoning their heritage. Misplaced confidence; false sense of security; abandonment of the greatness of their nation... (Sounds familiar, doesn't it?) In many ways a complement to Hosea, this perspective on the plight of Israel parallels the predicament of our country today. This study contains 13 hours of verse by verse teachings. Imagine this man in some vast city, New York or London. Imagine him on the third or fourth day of his solitude sitting in a house and hearing a ring at the door-bell!”*** Fredric Brown condensed this text to read "a sweet little horror story that is only two sentences long". Brown's short story then goes on to elaborate on those two sentences and builds a more complete plot around them. “Knock” was originally published in the December 1948 issue of Thrilling Wonder Stories. There have been three different radio adaptations (Dimension X, X Minus One and the Sci Fi Channel's Seeing Ear Theatre). And now it gets another adaptation – in this episode. She was at an estate sale and came across something she immediately knew I'd want… a book entitled “Alfred Hitchcock Presents A Month of Mystery”. It's very much like his TV show where he shared short stories from numerous authors. This anthology was published in 1969, with stories dating back as far as 1936. You'll most definitely be hearing more of these in future episodes because I love old creepy stories like these. In this episode it's a story by Gerald Kersh originally published in 1968.
