CGC Ep. 5: Mary HollandOn today's show, I talk with Mary Holland. She is a UCB everywoman - she performs on both the Harold team John Velvet and the Maude team New Money, and does a slew of other shows. She is fantastic at what she does and is known for creating grounded characters that people can relate to. Mary is also a member of Story Pirates, an organization that helps kids develop their creative voice by performing the stories that children write. She's one of the brightest performers to come up through the UCB system, and I can't wait to see what happens next for her. Hosted by: Nicky UrbanTech Produced by: Leann BowenLSD Water supplied by: LA Water and Power
Jacob Womack is on the show! He’s the long time host of the soon to be finished Crashbar Improv! He’s also on the wonderful Harold team John Velvet. Jacob and I talk about the one thing I always talk about, BICYCLING. We also talk about improv, where we’re at in the whole process, how to make more out of it. It’s all pretty great. Also, sorry about the hiatus guys. I got laid off of my job and my schedule’s been bananas as a result. I’m gonna try and lock back in and get more done. Happy improvising! Mark David Christenson and Casey Feigh join Jen to talk about the culture of auditioning, whether it be for commercials, TV and film, or comedy theater house teams. Along with great advice for UCB Harold auditions, Dave and Casey share some of the the weird things they've been asked to do in commercial auditions. But even being on the casting side of the audition process can be pretty strange, as Jen can attest to. If you're enjoying PrePopCulture, please rate/review it on iTunes, and like it on Facebook! In this episode we have a special party for AJ's birthday! We get a suggestion from his friend Brian and perform a monoscene on the International Space Station (In space!) Our FANTASTIC improvisers this week are Nick Mandernach (@nickmandernach, Room 101, the Upright Citizen's Brigade's John Velvet) and Richie Root (@richierooooot, the Upright Citizen's Brigade's Kid Grift).
Mary Holland is on the show! You know her from John Velvet, Fiddler’s Green, Lord Willin’, and New Money. Mary talks to me about the first thing she thinks of when starting a scene and how it helps her build a world. We also talk about the Johnny Meeks mantra Por Las Buanas. And, Mary simulates breaking up with me. It hurts. All that and more! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

RENE GUBE is on the show! You know him from the stunning UCBLA Harold Team, John Velvet. You also know him as one of the charismatic hosts of Room 101. Rene sits down and talks with me a bit about playing things real in scenes, and working to the best of your ability. We also talk a bit about how it would definitely be funny to slap Lilan Bowden. After all that we go on to the heavier stuff, people being dismissive of improv and the fact that it can and does lead you to wonderful things in life. This episodes less technical, less heady, but more heartful. And isn't that what it's all about? Rate, subscribe, comment, ENJOY! See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Casey Feigh is on the show! Casey’s the one of the hosts of Crashbar Improv, he’s a Harold Team performer on John Velvet, he’s a hip hop Improviser on Hip Hop Penguin, and he’s the co-host of the UCBLA Podcast. We talk a little bit about participating in improv jams, about the awesomeness that is the harold. Casey also talks to me a little bit about his new team that is performing the Documentary and he breaks down why you’re gonna want to be at the LA Indie Improv Festival. Also, someone called in with a question about smoking weed, so everyone wins. Subscribe, rate, comment, enjoy. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
Nick Mandernach from John Velvet and Room 101’s host team Shakedown is on the show! After me stumbling over how to pronounce his name, we have an amazing conversation about how our college experiences weren’t as fun as our comedy and UCB experiences. We talk a bit about trusting the technique of improv even when it doesn’t go well. Nick also tells me some of his pet peeves as a host of an independent show. Also improvising in character. Wow, we covered a lot of improv stuff, this show is amazing... Oh, also, Butt Thursdays. Subscribe. Rate. Comment. Enjoy. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
