Interview with Molly Annelle

We had the pleasure of interviewing Molly Annelle over Zoom video! Canada's rich musical history continues with 18-year-old singer/songwriter Molly Annelle. Thanks to a distinctive flair for bending language to fit melody, the young musician is ready totake the world by storm — combining the essence of R&B jams, Bossa Nova bops and Yé Yé girl pop - resulting in a tone all her own. “I like to describe my sound as dreamy R&B music, with a little bit of an edge to it,” sheexplains, adding that all genres of music have played a pivotal role in her growth as a musician. Her eclectic taste is evident in the subtle samba sounds that fuse effortlessly with 1960'sEuropean pop nuances - all of which pepper her 2021 album, Elevator Music. Molly's journey is one that began at the tender age of five when the Vancouver-basedsongstress penned her very first song — the uncannily entitled Obscure Bird. Four years later, atjust nine-years-old, she was named Young Composer of the Year, writing four-part harmoniesfor the Vancouver Chamber Choir. Encouraged by family and teachers alike, the young musicianfound her voice in the kind of honest lyricism and devoted storytelling which has continued toset her apart. It was also the kind of drive and ambition that happened to catch the attention of 604Records' Jonathan Simkin, resulting in Molly's label debut, Winter Waves, a Christmas anthemwhich garnered close to 345,000 streams on Spotify alone. To close out this year, Molly is set to release her new single, Dior, in November as the first ofthree brand-new tracks, to show her growth as a writer and artist. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing The National Parks over Zoom video! Folk-influenced male/female indie pop band The National Parks has released the official music video for their latest single, “Live Til We Die,” off their recently released album, A Mix For The End Of The World – Part 1. The fun and colorful visual, directed by Cameron Gade with cinematographer Spencer Goff, sees the Provo, UT-based quartet take a step back in time to a 1980s-style late night talk show. On the heels of the album's release earlier this month, The National Parks successfully launched their very own curated festival experience, Superbloom Music Festival, on Saturday, October 9th . The first-ever event took place under the stars near Zion National Park at Sand Hollow Resort in Southern Utah in front of a soldout crowd of nearly 2,000. Created by the band as a celebration of life and music set amid a beautiful location, Superbloom featured performances from Yoke Lore, Joseph, Joshua James, Ellee Duke, Brother. and Arbour Season before The National Parks closed out the day-long extravaganza. A Mix For The End Of The World – Part 1, released October 8th, marks the first half of the independent band's two-part digital-only project, which will see Part 2 released in early 2022. The 8-track collection, recorded at June Audio and produced and mixed by their longtime collaborator Scott Wiley, also features the singles “Headlights,” “Summer Bird” and “UFO,” the latter of which was recently featured on Ones To Watch's Now Playing playlist. A Mix For The End Of The World follows The National Parks' critically acclaimed 2020 album Wildflower and continues to showcase the band's sonic evolution and lead vocalist/guitarist Brady Parks' deep and heartfelt songwriting. Since emerging in 2013 with their introductory album Young, The National Parks — Brady Parks [guitar, vocals], Sydney Macfarlane [keys, vocals], Cam Brannelly [drums] and Megan Parks [violin] — have quietly grown into an independent phenomenon with roots embedded in blissful pop, cinematic electronics, organic orchestration, and rock energy. The four-piece has racked up over 150 million total streams, sold out headlining shows across the country, toured with Andy Grammer, Peter Bjorn and John and WILD, and performed at KAABOO Del Mar, SXSW and CMJ. '''Trigger Run Production (TRP)''' is one of [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albany,_Georgia Albany's (GA)] greatest hidden treasures in the city's underground music and entertainment scene. The musical dance/rap group composed of students from Monroe and Westover High School started performing back in 1989 at a local high school talent show. However, it was not until the fall of 1993 that would send Trigger Run into the stratosphere as a local treasure, and entertainment ambassadors, of the city as they would perform center stage on the world renown and famed amateur night at the Apollo Theater in New York City, NY. This platform would serve as the catalyst that would set the city a blaze thus catapulting Trigger Run into the urban legend that it has become known today as one of the city's most versatile and influential [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hip_hop_music hip-hop] groups born and raised in the Good Life City. Trigger Run would find marginal success in 1992 teaming up with WJIZ (96.3), and the Pride of Albany, to perform their first professional concert at the Albany Amphitheater along the city's riverfront. Looking to expand their musical prowess, in the summer of ‘94, the group would venture down south to team up with Miami Bass artist Clay D and Total Kaos as the opening act to promote their indie single release “Pump Ya Fist”. In 1998, Trigger Run would travel north to the new Motown known as Atlanta to perform their second indie release single “Toss It Up”. Trigger Run's underground music revolution created a cosmetic shift that would resonate throughout the city and re-inspired a musical revolution not known since Albany's own Ray Charles. Trigger Run's influence would help unearth undiscovered talent thus inspiring a music revolution that would birth record labels such as Southern House, Platinum Sound Studios and arguably one of the most successful rap groups to call Albany home, [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_Mob Field Mob] (Shawn Timothy Johnson and Darion Crawford). We had the pleasure of interviewing AVATAR over Zoom video/audio! The heavy metal 'n' roll dark madcap visionaries collectively known as AVATAR are ambitious, Swedish rock sorcerers of the highest order. They smash the boundaries between the band, theater troupe, and cinematic masterminds with a series of celebrated albums and videos, and the immersive world of Avatar Country, a fantastical land where metal rules supreme. In keeping with their customary larger-than-life-ness, the band is back with not one but TWO brand new songs.Avatar have shared the official music video for "Going Hunting," directed once again by Johan Carlén, and fan track "Barren Cloth Mother." The black and white, animated visual for "Going Hunting" features a giant insect as its protagonist, faceless men in suits, the band performing, and much more in its storyline. It's a glorious and cinematic visual, which is expected from the band. The band has also announced its signing with a new label. They are now part of the Thirty Tigers roster and have launched their own Black Waltz Records imprint. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Ultra Q over Zoom video!  Oakland-based four-piece band Ultra Q have released their new EP Get Yourself A Friend today (via Royal Mountain Records). Fronted by Jakob Armstrong and featuring brothers Enzo and Chris Malaspina as well as Kevin Judd, the new EP was co-produced by Armstrong and Martin Cooke (Of Monsters And Men, Death Cab For Cutie, Destroy Boys) and features songwriting from Stefan Babcock, lead singer of PUP. Click HERE to buy/stream Get Yourself A FriendClick HERE to watch the video for “Get Yourself A Friend” Ultra Q have also released the official music video for the title track today which was shot by Pennacky, the Japanese director behind all of the music videos for 88Rising's soundtrack for Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of Ten Rings. Upon meeting Armstrong and Pennacky immediately connected on their love of The Cure and a deep-cut video that inspired Pennacky to attach the camera to a rope for the new visual. Pennacky is also an avid fan of the Ultraman Sci-Fi series and drew from the original plot to shape the story of the video. Opening double-shot “Pupkin” and “It's Permanent” soar to the heights of Ultra Q's powers in much different ways; the former a black-clad romp through a rainy graveyard, the former pushing straight to the clouds with its soaring chorus. “Straight Jacket” veers pleasantly close to the jangle-pop of the Go-Betweens. “Bowman” features guitars like cats getting into a scratch-fight while an astoundingly metronomic drumbeat is played live rather than punched out on a beat pad. Closing the EP is its title track, an affecting end credits anthem full of nostalgia and a twinge of regret. On the song, which Babcock helped to arrange, Armstrong shares, “I think this track sums up what this EP is supposed to be, a coming-of-age farewell to our youth. It's about being young and in love. Being reckless, and overstimulated. Feeling like the tragedies in your life are permanent and without any direction. We've grown up, even if it's ever so slight.” As a whole, Get Yourself A Friend marks the synthesis of a songwriter's vision and his band's ability, forged through an invisible existential threat and an ever-changing world, eager to show what they've found while we were all inside. Ultra Q's previous EPs, In a Cave in a Video Game and We're Starting To Get Along, saw the band gain praise from the likes of Rolling Stone, NME, and Vice, in addition to leading to tours with The Regrettes, Hockey Dad, and Bad Suns. Jakob Armstrong—youngest son of Green Day frontman Billie Joe—began playing guitar at seven years old and honed his craft privately until about sixteen, playing in bands in and around Oakland after meeting friends with like-minded tastes in music. Soon enough, with the memories of Ultraman action figures fighting in his mind, he and a group of friends he cultivated from those years playing around and pouring over records, formed Ultra Q. The band will play Atlanta's Shaky Knees Festival in Spring 2022. We want to hear from you! We had the pleasure of interviewing Geographer over Zoom video!  Synth-pop luminary Geographer recently released his newest album, Down and Out In The Garden Of Earthly Delights, an 18 track voyage of synth-pop bliss. Formed in San Francisco, Geographer is the moniker for now Los Angeles-based artist Mike Deni. Earlier this month he announced a headlining U.S. tour that will launch in San Francisco on March 8th and includes stops in Chicago, Boston, New York, and more before wrapping on April 16th in Phoenix, AZ.  He is also confirmed for Treefort Festival and for the Just Like Heaven Festival 2022.ABOUT THE ALBUM & GEOGRAPHER:“I hit a ceiling in San  Francisco. I was writing a lot more songs with people in LA, so I moved down. I didn't really have any friends and just spent way too much time alone, making music. I wasn't thriving, I was surviving. Everything feels possible here. That's the vibe of LA: You've made it to paradise! You should be really happy...and then nobody is. There's a lot of darkness —you have to sift through everything to find your own path,” remarks Deni. While recording his album, engineer  Jules de  Gasperis showed him an image of the famed, 15th-century triptych painting “The Garden of Earthly Delights,” depicting alternate realities of paradise, hell, and reality. “It's like, why are we all so bummed out? We are all miserable.  And  we're  in  paradise.” And thus, Down and Out in the Garden of Earthly Delights—recorded between Spring and Winter of 2019 —was born. Part social scientist, part troubadour, if Geographer is an expert at anything, it's precisely chronicling life's imperfections. He has headlined many national tours, played Outside Lands, Firefly, and other festivals, released two critically acclaimed albums, and performed with such musical luminaries as K.Flay, The Flaming Lips, Young The Giant, Tycho, Ratatat, Betty Who, and Tokyo Police Club. We want to hear from you!
