Congratulations you've made it to episode 533… that's FIVE HUNDRED AND THIRTY THREE! Crikey, a big well done to you! We've had another fun-filled week on The Chris Moyles Show, so why don't you catch up on all our best bits! With the Winter Olympics in full swing, we were joined by the absolute legend himself, Eddie The Eagle! He reminisced about his record-breaking, history-making, gravity-defying Olympic moments and revealed where that iconic nickname actually came from. The Chris Moyles Show is the home of new music, am I right? Move aside John Kennedy! (We don't mean that really John, he's the new music guy!) However, Dom was tasked with reviewing a band that sent in their new record, so we did one better and got Jessie from Jessie and The Revolvers on the show for Dom to review their song live to Jessie!Plus, Chris and Dom compare their strange sleeping habits, we hear more of your Stupid Amnesty submissions and either Executive Producer Aaron STILL hasn't quite got to grips with how a radio show works or he just loves talking just before the end of songs. So go on. Press play and kickstart your weekend in the right way!And because we're feeling extra nice this week we've got even more for you…Miss PiggyPranking AaronDom's toilet voice oversEnjoy! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X!Weekdays 6:30am - 10am

Classic rock and roll bands and artists releasing new music? What's the point? Is it worth a listen? Do we discount some excellent rock from these bands just because it's not 1987? Or is it a shell of their sound and original fire? Def Leppard has a new song, in conjunction with a run at the Sphere in Las Vegas. We take a first listen. Then we look at the past 12 months of rock and roll releases from bands like Alice Cooper, Styx, and others who are still making and releasing new music—an objective ear on the sound of what some bands are doing today. Let's check it out together. No BS. Just our ears and the vibe. What works and what doesn't?

In this episode, I sit down with percussionist Colin Currie for a wide-ranging conversation about curiosity, originality, live performance, and the lifelong pursuit of musical meaning. Colin is one of the most influential percussionists of our time, known for his deep commitment to contemporary music, his close collaboration with composers, and his transformative interpretations of Steve Reich's work. This conversation explores how curiosity, patience, and listening have shaped his career and his approach to music-making.We begin by talking about technology, access to recordings, and the changing landscape of music education. Colin reflects on growing up in a time when discovering music required effort, intention, and physical presence in libraries and record shops. He shares concerns about students learning pieces by copying online performances rather than developing their own ideas, and he speaks passionately about the importance of solitude, curiosity, and learning music on one's own terms.Colin traces his musical beginnings back to early childhood, from piano lessons at age five to his first drum lesson at six, describing the joy, excitement, and physical energy that initially drew him to percussion. He talks about how that sense of wonder has never left him and why live performance remains a magical, irreplaceable experience. We explore why percussion continues to evolve so rapidly, how technique has advanced across the field, and why musical intent always matters more than virtuosity alone.A significant portion of the conversation focuses on Colin's connection to contemporary music and the composers who shaped his artistic identity. He describes hearing The Rite of Spring as a teenager, discovering post-war modernist composers through library scores, and developing an instinctive attraction to music that felt strange, challenging, and unfamiliar. Colin shares how his love for new music was never about understanding it intellectually, but about responding to it emotionally and instinctively. We also dive deeply into Colin's relationship with Steve Reich, including their first meeting, their long-standing collaboration, and the formation of the Colin Currie Group. Colin reflects on recording Music for 18 Musicians at Abbey Road Studios, explaining how the goal was to capture the intensity and emotional risk of live performance rather than create a polished studio artifact. He talks about groove, sonority, emotional depth, and why Reich's music demands both precision and expressive freedom.Colin discusses his growing role as a conductor and how stepping onto the podium has changed the way he listens, leads, and collaborates with ensembles. He shares stories from recent performances, lessons learned from orchestral musicians, and how listening remains the central skill, whether playing or conducting. We also talk about his record label, Colin Currie Records, crowdfunding new projects, and the upcoming release of a Steve Reich album featuring Sextet, Double Sextet, Six Marimbas, and Dance Patterns. As we look ahead, Colin reflects on 2026 as a landmark year, including Steve Reich's 90th birthday, dozens of performances of Reich's music worldwide, and the premiere of Colin's 40th percussion concerto. This is a thoughtful, inspiring conversation about curiosity, commitment, and the lifelong responsibility of serving music.Music from the Episode:Mallet Quartet (Steve Reich - Colin Currie Group)Music for 18 Musicians - Section VI (Steve Reich - Colin Currie Group)Thank you for listening. Send us a textJustin Warfield stops by the show to discuss, Deathrock Devotionals Vol II, inner peace, change in perspective and more. *****After a year of steady build-up, bold reinvention, and dancefloor resurrection, WARFIELD - the darkwave/deathrock project helmed by She Wants Revenge lyricist and frontman Justin Warfield - arrives at a pivotal moment. Today marks the release of Deathrock Devotionals Vol. II (out via Black Heathers/Cleopatra Records), the latest installment in Justin's ongoing love letter to the early Los Angeles deathrock and post-punk scenes that shaped him. Just two weeks later, on November 28, the saga culminates with the release of the full-length album Deathrock Devotionals - an all-encompassing statement piece that merges narrative depth, goth energy, and propulsive hooks into one darkly luminous body of work.“Like its predecessor, Vol. II is a continuation, and remembrance of, the early years of goth and deathrock in Los Angeles,” Justin explains. “I'm taking inspiration from 45 Grave, Super Heroines, Rozz Williams, Patrick Mata - all those people who pioneered this thing that not only lives on, but is thriving so many years later it. I'm just continuing that spirit and making something new, fun, full of energy, and from my point of view.” He continues, “In many ways this project, this band, and this record specifically is really the child of a time in the early '80s in LA when there was a confluence of art-rock punks, East LA punks, Queer culture, late-night diners and after hours, basement shows, dueling live music venues in Chinatown as the epicenter of the scene, and suburban backyard parties. When Hollywood was dangerous and full of possibility, and before the jocks and bros crashed the punk party.”******If you would like to contact the show about being a guest, please email us at Dauna@bettertopodcast.comFollow us on Social MediaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/author_d.m.needom/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bettertopodcastwithdmneedomIntro and Outro music compliments of Fast Suzi©2025 Better To...Podcast with D. Lizzie No makes music rooted in the traditions of blues, folk, and country, filtered through an indie sensibility that resists easy categorization. Often compared to Allison Russell, Rhiannon Giddens, and Adia Victoria, she moves easily between musical worlds, collaborating with artists including Brian Dunne, Pom Pom Squad, and Domino Kirke. In this episode, Lizzie joins Rhett to talk about why folk music is a process rather than a style, and how songwriting, community, and organizing intersect in her work. She also gets practical: how she works through self-doubt, why making records is financially unsustainable for many artists, and how those constraints are pushing musicians back toward live, imperfect, human performances. The conversation also touches on her latest album, Halfsies, an immersive, narrative-driven record that follows the character Miss Freedomland from isolation toward liberation, confronting personal grief alongside an increasingly volatile American political landscape. LIzzie is on tour with the Old 97s beginning in March. Follow Lizzie @lizzie.no Follow Rhett @rhettmiller Wheels Off is hosted and produced by Rhett Miller. Legendary bassist and songwriter Bob Daisley joins the Loaded Radio Podcast this week, addressing his exclusion from Ozzy Osbourne's "Back To The Beginning" concert and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, reflecting on his work with Randy Rhoads, Jake E. The episode also features host Scott Penfold breaking down the latest heavy metal news, including the new Bruce Dickinson solo album, Deftones' catalog deal, the Motley Crue/Mick Mars verdict, and the Grammys' ongoing relationship with metal. I've interviewed a lot of metal musicians over the years, but some conversations carry a different kind of weight. This one does. This week on the Loaded Radio Podcast, we're joined by Bob Daisley — a foundational architect of heavy metal whose fingerprints are all over some of the genre's most iconic records, yet whose name is still too often left out of the mainstream narrative. And for the first time in a long while, Bob isn't dodging the uncomfortable stuff.
