On the next Talking Rasslin' with Pondwater & Amy, we're breaking down one of the most intense matches in wrestling history — the Tully Blanchard vs. Magnum TA “I Quit” Cage Match from Starrcade 1985.We'll walk through the brutality, the storytelling, the psychology, the iconic ending, and why this match still stands as the gold standard for violence and emotion inside a steel cage. Then we're jumping to 2024 and recapping everything from WWE Survivor Series — the highlights, surprises, returns, and the moments that hit (and didn't hit).Classic NWA meets modern WWE… and Pondwater & Amy are right in the middle of it.
Ooh boy, here we go. It's 3 hours of movie time without Nic Cage with a cameo in a fake trailer as a racist caricature. What have we done? Cage Dancer John joins us to talk about the 2007 grind house films Planet Terror (Robert Rodriguez) and Death Proof (Quentin Tarantino). It's campy, it's stupid, but is it fun? Hold onto your ball jar, this is Cage Match.Intro music by: Bill Panks
Hey! Vibe check. How we all doin? TONIGHT, Netflix bought WB but then Paramount got mad and did a hostile takeover. I don't know what that means but it sounds angry. Quentin Tarantino wants to punch Paul Dano for some reason. We filmed something this weekend. We also have ANOTHER sad update to share.
Road Trip After Hours w/ WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long and Host Mac Davis
The bell rings, the cage drops, and the crowd should feel danger closing in. That's the energy we chase as we unpack why AEW's Blood and Guts delivered a sharper, grittier story than WWE's War Games—and where one baffling “pause for chants” moment shattered the illusion of a fight. When a match built on urgency stops to milk a reaction while opponents lie flat, it doesn't just break kayfabe; it breaks trust. We talk through how spectacle can enhance a bout, but only when it respects the rules that make wrestling feel real. From there we turn to John Cena's looming final match and the vacuum around it. A legacy farewell needs time, stakes, and an opponent who means something—either a storied rival to close a circle or a made-man moment for the next era. Dropping a mystery challenger days out strips the bout of heat and robs fans of the anticipation that makes a goodbye unforgettable. We weigh names that would have clicked and why a proper build is not a luxury; it's the whole point.Teddy brings veteran clarity to the bigger picture: too much programming, not enough focus, and leadership choices that favor moments over momentum. We explore promo guardrails on live TV, what happens when you go off-script, and how creative power affects even the biggest stars. There's brighter news too—TNA landing a Thursday night slot on AMC, a real chance to grow audience and sharpen identity if the booking stays disciplined. Along the way we trade road stories, shout out listeners across the map, and reflect on how today's travel culture swapped bar nights for recovery and longevity. If you care about storytelling logic, honoring legends the right way, and promotions that respect their audience, this conversation is for you. Listen, share your take on War Games vs Blood and Guts, and tell us who should have stood across from Cena for a farewell worthy of his legacy. Subscribe, leave a review, and send this to a wrestling fan who loves the craft as much as the pop.Send us a text

Hot damn, it's a NEW, in theaters, Nic Cage movie. Lotfy (totally not Lofty) Nathan's new movie about the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, kinda, and exploring the life and times of angsty teen Jesus. Oh wait, sorry, "The Boy". Nic Cage plays a SoCal style father figure while FKA Twigs purses her lips really hard. Will Nick keep his oath? Are devils chickens? Mouthy ones only today. This is Cage Match.Intro music by: Bill Panks

The most important lesson here is that if you're ever feeling like the cock of the walk after winning your first hand of gin...maybe don't get right into your car. We're obviously talking Sonny this episode. Nic Cage's one and only directing attempt. You have to deal with some James Franco face, but it might be worth it. Keep it in your pants, Halloween Ted. The guys kick things off with a look at the bad blood between Go Shiozaki and Pro Wrestling NOAH over the ZERO1 Title – a messy situation that All Japan Pro Wrestling could benefit from a lot. From there, it's over to All Japan, where STRIGGA brings up the point of production values in contrast to NOAH or NJPW. They'll also talk about HAVOC being over with the crowd and how Shiozaki fits into the group and the promotion. From there, they take it to NOAH's Wrestle Odyssey from Sumo Hall that featured some strong junior matches but plenty of disjointed storytelling. Another question raised and tackled is where New Japan goes next with Konosuke Takeshita as new IWGP World Heavyweight Champion. Is Okada going to be his Wrestle Kingdom opponent? Is It Tsuji? This could also interfere with possible Tanahashi retirement opponents. Other topics on NJPW include the hit Tag Team Title match, thoughts on the IWGP Women's Championship, a ridiculous Super Jr. Tag League lineup. The final topic includes early speculations about DRAGONGATE's King of Gate winner. Ten years in, the Eastern Lariat remains your go-to source for all things puroresu – insightful, opinionated, and always unscripted!

Norbert Michel and Dominic Lett square off over whether fiscal or monetary policy is the bigger mess. Lett highlights how entitlement programs like Social Security and Medicare are driving unsustainable debt levels, while Michel explains how post-2008 Federal Reserve changes have created risks of “fiscal dominance,” where monetary policy is increasingly shaped by government borrowing needs. Both stress that without structural reforms and political restraint, the U.S. faces uncertain and potentially catastrophic economic consequences.Show Notes:https://www.cato.org/policy-analysis/comprehensive-evaluation-policy-rate-feedback-rules#https://www.cato.org/books/crushing-capitalismhttps://www.cato.org/blog/medicaid-driving-deficits-republicans-are-scarcely-tapping-brakeshttps://www.cato.org/news-releases/senate-bill-could-increase-debt-6-trillion-cato-analysis# Hosted on Acast. Alright ding-a-lings, let's get ready for some car crash, stranded in the desert antics! Here's a 27 second cameo by Cage in an oddly star studded debut flick by Adam Rifkin. Obviously it's Never on Tuesday, the direct to VHS masterpiece about trying to turn a lesbian straight (it was the 80's). Have your tallest lady friend carry you off into your fantasies. This is Cage Match.Intro music by: Bill Panks
STRIGGA & Dylan return with their coverage the final days of NJPW's G1 Climax 35 – the biggest tournament of the Summer. With the final and the road leading to it being pretty controversial, did the tournament hold up the high G1 standards? What does the crowd reactions during Konosuke Takeshita vs. EVIL tell us about the individual performers and the state of the company? From booking choices and patterns to match quality and overall presentation, The Eastern Lariat breaks down what worked, what didn't, and where New Japan Pro Wrestling stands after the conclusion of the tournament.
It's Thursday, and you know what that means! It is time to walk through those Tavern doors and order up a round of professional wrestling coverage from One Bad Chad and "Ol Reliable" Hoch! This week we talk AEW and all the happenings of the week! Make sure you go to patreon.com/theturnbuckletavern for all your Tavern needs!
In the spirit of the season, The Eastern Lariat returns with deep dive into the big summer gatherings of pro wrestling in japan – the major tournaments. The show starts out with Dylan's rundown of Stardom's 5Star Grand Prix up until Day 4 and then turns to New Japan Pro Wrestling's G1 Climax 35 that crossed the half way point this past weekend. The big question here is: What's in the cards for which performer? The show of course also offers a series of recommended matches, highlights performers and performances and also questions unwritten rules of pro wrestling in Japan. Deservedly so so, All Japan Pro Wrestling is in the main event spot of this show for their excellent, dramatic and energizing Summer Action Wars from Ota Ward that saw two high-class matches in the World Tag Team Title Match and the Final of the Zennichi Junior Festival and that could steer AJPW in the right direction.
Michael F. Cannon and Neal McCluskey let us listen in on their ongoing 20-year debate over who has the more difficult job -- fixing health care or education. McCluskey argues that government's monopolistic control over K-12 education and compulsory schooling creates a more fundamental threat to freedom, while Cannon contends that health care is even more dysfunctional due to cascading government interventions that have created the world's most expensive and gap-ridden health system. Both scholars explore how government subsidies drive up costs in their respective sectors and outline their visions for more libertarian, market-based alternatives.Show Notes:https://www.cato.org/free-society/summer-2025/federal-failure-parental-freedom-story-movement https://www.cato.org/blog/supreme-court-right-reading-opt-outs-thats-not-enough https://www.cato.org/blog/top-5-reasons-end-us-department-education Hosted on Acast.
