In this compelling episode of Fearless, Cissie Graham Lynch sits down with Erin Hawley—Supreme Court attorney, Senior Counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, professor, mom of three, and wife to U.S. Senator Josh Hawley—for a raw conversation about what life looks like in a post-Roe America.Erin pulls back the curtain on the landmark Dobbs v. Jackson case that overturned Roe v. Wade and shares never-before-heard moments from behind the scenes—including what it was like juggling legal strategy meetings while calming her infant daughter in a stroller. With honesty and conviction, she details the personal toll and deep spiritual weight of being on the front lines of one of the most pivotal cultural battles of our time.Together, Cissie and Erin explore the ongoing fight for life in states like Colorado, where abortion pill reversal is being criminalized—even as chemical abortions send 1 in 25 women to the emergency room. Erin also addresses the recent Supreme Court case on mifepristone, the dangers of a politicized FDA, and how abortion's framing in America is being rewritten by powerful narratives designed to silence truth and harm women. But this episode isn't just legal analysis—it's a heartfelt reminder of our calling to remain faithful in the face of fear. Drawing from Matthew 3:17, Erin reflects on the moment of Jesus' baptism—when the Father declared, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”—and what it means to raise children with the deep assurance that they are loved by God not for what they do, but for who they are.Whether you're a parent, a pastor, or someone wrestling with today's cultural chaos, this episode will challenge and encourage you to step boldly into your calling, knowing that God is sovereign—even in the courtroom.
When the Supreme Court issued its opinion in Dobbs reversing Roe v Wade and Planned Parenthood, it began a rapidly evolving conflict between the States on one of the most high profile and controversial constitutional debates of our day. While much has been made of the laws which have either restricted or protected access to abortions, conflicts often reach beyond the borders of States due to interstate commerce, the Full Faith and Credit Clause, and the Extradition Clause. For law students, this is an opportunity to see with unusual clarity the dynamics of the law in motion and to better understand state-federal conflicts. To help you better understand how these conflicts are playing out today and where they may be leading in the future, host Chay Rodriguez is joined by professors Rachel Rebouché and David S. Cohen, co-authors of an article entitled “Abortion Shield Laws”, which has helped lead 18 States and D.C. to adopt laws protecting healthcare practitioners who provide abortion services for patients from states where abortion is illegal.Click here to read the article professors Rebouché and Cohen co-authored.(00:00) - Introducing today's topic (02:08) - Our guests Rachel Rebouche and David S. Friends of the Rosary, Dozens of millions of unborn babies have been killed in the womb in the U.S. and in the rest of the world. The number of abortions annually is still well over 900,000, and that number is expected to decrease only by roughly 200,000 each year in a post-Roe America. The victim has his earthly life terminated. The mother suffers greatly for her actions. We know the devastating consequences that abortion will have in their lives. The perpetrators will live under the shadow of the unhappiness of rejecting their Creator. Moreover, they will place their eternal salvation in jeopardy. Therefore, during the week of the March of Life in Washington DC (this Frida), we pray for the protection of the life of the unborn and for the women who feel tempted or forced to commit abortion. We also pray for the conversion of the perpetrators of abortion: medical personnel, activists, and politicians. We wish that all abortionists understand the terrible consequences of their actions. Repentance will benefit both them and our society. What happened to women voters as Harris drew fewer of them than Biden in 2020? Even in pro-choice strongholds, economic concerns trumped reproductive rights. To examine this I'm was joined the morning after the election on this WhoWhatWhy podcast by Amanda Becker, a 2023 Nieman Fellow and Washington correspondent for The 19th. She is the author of the book You Must Stand Up: The Fight for Abortion Rights in Post-Dobbs America. She expalins that the great female firewall against Trump's return never materialized. In fact, it crumbled. Vice President Kamala Harris actually performed worse than Joe Biden did in 2020, capturing just 54 percent of women's votes compared to his 57 percent. Even more stunning: In states like Ohio and Kentucky, where women had recently mobilized to protect reproductive rights, the expected momentum vanished. What happened? The answer challenges everything we thought we knew about women voters in post-Roe America.

Today, we hear from journalist Shefali Luthra about her new book, "Undue Burden," which the San Francisco Chronicle called "an impeccably researched, clearheaded and frankly terrifying assessment of just how grave the situation in post-Roe America is."
While Republican candidates in many states downplay their opposition to abortion, the most vehement wing of the movement, which helped overturn Roe v. Wade — those who advocate prosecuting patients, outlawing contraception, and banning IVF — are increasingly outspoken. Meanwhile, some state legislatures continue to advance new restrictions, like a proposal moving in Louisiana to include abortion medications mifepristone and misoprostol on the list of the most dangerous drugs. Alice Miranda Ollstein of Politico, Rachel Roubein of The Washington Post, and Joanne Kenen of the Johns Hopkins schools of public health and nursing and Politico Magazine join KFF Health News' Julie Rovner to discuss these stories and more. Also this week, Rovner interviews Shefali Luthra of The 19th about her new book on abortion in post-Roe America, “Undue Burden.” Plus, for “extra credit” the panelists suggest health policy stories they read this week that they think you should read, too: Julie Rovner: The 19th's “What Happens to Clinics After a State Bans Abortion? In our post-Roe America states bordering abortion-free states are quickly becoming havens for abortion. Hence, Planned Parenthood has raised millions of dollars to convert commercial vans into mobile killing centers to deploy to these borders. Created Equal responded to this new challenge by deploying our Mobile Pregnancy Center Vehicle on the border of states where abortion is illegal or heavily restricted. This mobile unit is designed to reach mothers who are crossing state borders to have their abortions. Kate Cox, a Texas mother of two, was thrilled to find out she was pregnant with her third child last year. But the dream of expanding her family quickly turned into a nightmare when Cox and her husband were told that their fetus had an anomaly called Trisomy 18 that, in their case, was fatal. In December 2023, Cox asked a Texas court to temporarily block the state's abortion ban so she could receive urgent medical care, becoming the first pregnant woman to sue for the right to terminate her pregnancy since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022. Kate Cox recently attended the State of the Union as a guest of the Bidens' and, on this week's episode, sits down with Charlotte Alter to share her story. Tune in for an intimate and moving conversation about the grim realities that pregnant people face in post-Roe America.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Friends of the Rosary: Thousands of Americans gathered today in Washington, DC for the 51st annual March for Life, the second in a post-Roe America. The faithful showed support for the right to life — a life-affirming culture that respects the inherent dignity of all human life. The theme this year ‘With every woman, for every child' focused on the need to care for both mother and child during the nine months of pregnancy and in the years after. Pregnancy care centers and maternity homes across the country exist to provide support for women facing unexpected pregnancies so that no mother ever feels alone or without support on her journey. The annual March for Life is the world's largest annual human rights demonstration. Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You! Between Life and Death revisits the story of Terri Schiavo, a decade long saga that captivated the country with the intersection of faith and politics that reverberate to this day. At 26 years old Terri suffered a brain injury that left her in a persistent vegetative state, with no hope of recovery. While Terri's husband wanted to let her die, her parents insisted she be kept alive. What began as a family dispute in local Florida courts escalated into an international news event and seminal right to die legal battle that played out at the highest level of government. Politicians and the religious right used Terri's story and the power of the "pro life" movement to lay the groundwork for a post-Roe America. Democrats are pro-choice and Republicans are pro-life. Right? According to Ryan Burge it's not that simple. He says a closer look at the data reveals more nuance to the issue, including a significant number of Black and Latino Democrats who are strongly pro-life, and pro-life Republicans who support traditionally progressive social policies. In a post-Roe America, the abortion issue is getting a lot more complicated. Then, Skye talks to Old Testament professor M. Daniel Carroll about a theology of immigration. He says that before Christians adopt a political policy about immigration they first need a biblical vision of immigrants themselves. All of that, plus smashing pumpkin records. A year ago, the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, upending abortion law across the country. With Roe v. Wade overturned, what could replace it? WNYC's Supreme Court podcast "More Perfect" takes up that question in a two-part series. The two episodes focus on the origins of the viability line—that's the line that determines when a fetus is viable outside the womb. That line was around 24 weeks as defined by Roe v. Wade. Now it's whenever the state decides. We discuss the viability line in post-Roe America. Want to support 1A? Give to your local public radio station and subscribe to this podcast. Have questions? Today we're joined by BlazeTV host of "4 Minute Buzz" Hilary Kennedy to discuss all kinds of weird occult products and shows popping up specifically for young people. First, a "Christian" ouija board for sale on Amazon promises to connect people with God. Psalm-themed tarot cards, marketed as "affirmation cards," are also deceptively marketed to Christians, and a ouija board marketed specifically to little girls features a pink kitten-themed aesthetic. This further shows that the glamorization and “normalizing” of the occult is becoming more and more prevalent at a pace we haven't seen in recent decades. We also discuss Disney's new German show "Pauline," about an 18-year-old getting pregnant by and falling in love with Satan, and why modern culture seems to keep coming back to this narrative in different formats. Then, we share some good news from CNN of all places: Abortion numbers have greatly decreased in post-Roe America! --- Timecodes: (00:51) Interview with Hilary begins (02:05) "Christian" ouija board (03:23) "Christian" tarot cards (07:16) Kids ouija board (10:51) Demon-themed Disney shows (14:29) The occult / new age beliefs in culture (29:38) Good news: abortion stats --- Today's Sponsors: EdenPURE — when you buy one Thunderstorm you get one FREE, this week only!
