Gary & Shannon open the show with updates on Fonzy and Sprinkles, plus another chapter in the ongoing saga of being “accidentally” excluded from the iHeart holiday party. They break down President Trump’s claim of seizing “the largest tanker ever” off Venezuela and what Governor Newsom’s new memoir suggests about his national ambitions. The duo also digs into the Disney–OpenAI partnership and how AI access to Disney’s full character library could reshape entertainment. They close with the bizarre Canyon Crest Academy controversy, where a 24-hour “adult game show” filmed on campus left students confused and the district facing backlash.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Gary & Shannon open the hour with Governor Newsom’s new memoir, questioning who he’s trying to impress as they poke holes in the polished rollout. They also dissect his claim that his hair “caught fire” during the Palisades blaze — a story the video doesn’t seem to back up, fueling online ridicule. They move on to a survey showing workers would rather get a root canal than attend their office holiday party, sparking their own tales of corporate-party dread. The pair also highlight the rise of all-inclusive adventure resorts before wrapping with a tribute to Phillip Rivers’ famously PG “cussing” and whether he’s really ready to rescue the Colts.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In October 2025, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 715 into law, a troubling piece of legislation aimed at public education in the state, primarily around criticism of Israel.
Gavin Newsom is the 2028 Democratic front-runner. That's what many of the polls and the Polymarket betting odds say. It's been widely believed that Newsom wants to run for president someday. But belief that he could be a front-runner was less common. A liberal white guy from a state that much of the country considers badly governed just didn't seem like the profile the Democratic Party was looking for.But as a Californian who has watched Newsom for a long time, I was surprised by him this year. After President Trump returned to the White House, Newsom started a podcast, interviewing people like Charlie Kirk, Steve Bannon and Michael Savage, which made a lot of Democrats mad. At the same time, Newsom turned himself into the leader of the resistance — trolling Trump on social media and pushing a ballot initiative to end California's independent redistricting to counter the partisan redistricting effort in Texas.Newsom has been willing to try things and take risks. He has shown a feel for this moment — in politics and in the way attention works now.But it's still true that he runs a state that the country considers badly governed. California tops the rankings of unaffordable states, at a time when affordability has become a central electoral issue. In this conversation, I ask Newsom about all of this — what he learned this year from talking to figures on the right, how he thinks the Democratic Party can win back voters it lost, why California is so unaffordable and what he's doing about it.Mentioned:Applebee's America by Ron Fournier, Douglas B. Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Clay: I'd be a Better SCOTUS Judge Clay and Buck break down the case that could redefine the separation of powers by determining whether presidents can fire executive branch officials who lead independent regulatory agencies. They argue that this decision isn’t just about Donald Trump—it will impact every future president, from Obama to potential leaders like Gavin Newsom or JD Vance. The hosts criticize Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s comments during oral arguments, questioning her understanding of constitutional principles and highlighting what they see as her overtly political approach. Clay even raises the provocative argument that Biden’s pledge to appoint a Black woman to the Court may have violated federal law, sparking a broader discussion on merit, diversity, and judicial competence. The hour then pivots to cultural commentary, featuring clips from The View and a spirited debate about Donald Trump’s legacy. Clay and Buck dismantle claims that Trump will be a mere “footnote,” asserting that he is the most influential political figure of the 21st century and second only to Ronald Reagan in the past 45 years. They compare Trump’s impact to other modern presidents, including Obama, Clinton, and George W. Bush, and explore how Trump reshaped American politics and global dynamics. This segment underscores the enduring influence of Trump’s policies and persona, regardless of media narratives. Uncle Bill Stops By Bill O’Reilly (aka Uncle Bill) shares candid insights from his recent conversations with President Trump. O’Reilly ranks Trump among the top ten U.S. presidents, praising his unmatched work ethic while noting that Abraham Lincoln will always hold the number one spot. He contrasts Trump’s accomplishments with what he calls Joe Biden’s catastrophic presidency, arguing Biden failed to solve a single major problem during his term. O’Reilly also warns that affordability concerns—particularly rising insurance costs—could become a defining issue in the 2026 midterms, even as Trump touts strong economic fundamentals like job growth and stock market gains. Can You Afford Your Life? The discussion pivots to Trump’s economic strategy and his push to address affordability through a Pennsylvania tour. Clay and Buck emphasize that inflation and high prices remain top-of-mind for voters, regardless of improving economic indicators. They spotlight Trump’s critique of Obamacare, playing audio where Trump blasts the law as a “disaster” that enriches insurance companies while leaving Americans with skyrocketing premiums and shrinking networks. The hosts argue that the entire healthcare system is broken, riddled with hidden costs and subsidies, and warn that demographic shifts—more retirees and fewer young workers—will strain programs like Social Security and Medicare for decades to come. Over half of Americans pay no federal income tax, while government spending under Biden—$6.8 trillion in 2021 alone—fueled historic inflation. The hosts dismantle progressive proposals like tax exemptions as reparations, pointing out that many households already pay zero federal income tax. They end the hour by reaffirming that Biden’s reckless spending spree drove inflation from 1.7% to over 9%, cementing economic frustration as a key issue heading into the next election cycle. Christmas Music and Gifts are Overrated A spirited debate about holiday traditions, gift-giving, and the commercialization of Christmas. Clay admits he’s “going Grinch” over the nonstop barrage of Christmas music and argues that only children should receive gifts, while Buck shares his preference for practical contributions like college fund donations over material presents. Callers weigh in with creative solutions, including gift exchange apps and liquor swaps, adding humor and relatability to the discussion. The hour closes with a playful exchange about presidential rankings, as listeners challenge the hosts’ takes on George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Thomas Jefferson, sparking a lively historical debate. California is often described as the state where you can see the future of the US, and of the world. That has certainly been true in terms of some of the problems faced by the electricity grid. California has been grappling with the impact of wildfires and a big shift to renewable generation, and now faces the prospect of rising power demand from electrification and data centers. In this episode, host Ed Crooks and regular guest Amy Myers Jaffe of NYU talk to Elliot Mainzer, President and CEO of the California Independent System Operator (CAISO), to dig into how the state is tackling those challenges.California's electricity prices have nearly doubled in eight years, rising to about 32 cents per kilowatt hour for residential customers. Affordability has become a political flashpoint, as it has in many other parts of the US, and other countries around the world. Elliot explains how CAISO is using reforms of transmission planning and interconnection queues to help “bend the cost curve” downwards. The discussion also covers an important shift that is now under way in western power markets. Governor Gavin Newsom of California recently signed AB 825, advancing an independent regional governance structure for the emerging extended day-ahead market. Elliot outlines how implementing the new law could change reliability, capacity planning, and resource adequacy across 11 states.Another pressure point is AI, and the data centers needed to support it. While large load growth in California is more modest than in some other states such as Texas or Virginia, the state still expects 2.3 gigawatts of new data center demand by 2030. Ed and Amy question how much flexibility these data centers can provide, whether price pressure is pushing hyperscalers elsewhere in the US, and how CAISO will manage the all-important issues around siting and grid integration. The episode also dives into one of California's most contentious debates: the role for distributed energy resources and virtual power plants. Elliot discusses what CAISO can see, what it can't, and what needs to change for DERs to support affordability and reliability—while highlighting the remarkable performance of the state's battery fleet in avoiding Flex Alerts for the past three summers. Finally, the conversation looks ahead to California's longer-term energy future. The state has set an ambitious energy goals, including sourcing all its electricity from zero-ccarbon generation by 2045. To achieve that, many gigawatts of new renewables are still required, and wide-area coordination across the western US will have to live up to its full potential. As Elliot puts it, managing this grid is challenging, but “the challenge is energizing.”Stay tuned to The Energy Gang as we continue tracking the forces that are reshaping the power industry, from technology and finance to policy and climate.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Governor Gavin Newsom spent much of last week in New York City, criticizing Wall Street, Democrats, SEIU, and Trump at a New York Times books conference -- and then went begging for handouts in D.C. with predictable results. Meghan and Miranda are in full holiday mode with the decorations glowing and the cactus tinsel shining as they dive into a packed week of politics, pop culture, and online drama. Meghan opens up about the latest body shaming from Tucker Carlson's show and talks honestly about pregnancy, weight, and the pressure women face in the Ozempic era. The conversation is real, grounded, and deeply relatable. Political strategist Yemisi Egbewole joins the show for a wide-ranging discussion about Trump-world extremism, Tucker's sudden fascination with Qatar, the GOP's Nick Fuentes problem, and what all of this means for voters who do not want political chaos. They also break down the early buzz around Josh Shapiro, the Democrats' struggle with Black voters ahead of 2028, Clyburn's kingmaker influence, and whether Gavin Newsom's California brand can translate nationally. Then the fun starts. Meghan and Miranda get into Quentin Tarantino's attack on actors Paul Dano and Matthew Lillard (and his emotional response), and the very confusing 2026 Golden Globes nominations. They also talk about why television is outperforming movies right now, and tease their upcoming watch of 50 Cent's new Diddy documentary on Netflix, which they will review on the next episode. SEASON 4 EPISODE 38: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (2:30) SPECIAL COMMENT: It’s not simple gaslighting about the price of gas: It’s neurological disintegration; obsessive repetition of the same lie. He has now - for the 14th time in 28 weeks - announced with shock and excited surprise that gas has "just hit" $1.98 a gallon (or "$1.99" or "under $2.00"). It's not just a lie; it's something he heard, could not understand in the first place, and is repeating at regular intervals as if he just heard it moments earlier. It is a classic sign of neurological crisis. And it is proof that invoking the 25th Amendment is imperative. And won’t happen. Any more than Trump realizing he already TOLD that lie. ALSO: Jack Smith still has a way to make the second half of his report convicting Trump public, while it turns out he tried to get rid of Aileen Cannon a year ago. It is also becoming increasingly apparent that ESPN's Stephen A. Smith may be the Jill Stein of 2028 - a stalking horse pretending to be a Democrat while being pushed by fascists. We know this much: he's mailing it in. He thinks the name of the governor of Florida is named "Ron Santis." AND TRUMP AND MELANIA talking about "Pile Driving" at night in the White House? That must be the first time in eighteen years. B-Block (35:00) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: The Shamwow guy is back and, what else, running for Congress as a MAGA because he can't keep this up all day. Bari Weiss obviously never saw the Mary Tyler Moore Show: she's fired her old CBS News Anchors before she's fired her NEW CBS News Anchors. And Jake Tapper really does it: after he put his thumb on the scale for Trump in the Biden debate and wrote a book and sold it on CNN about Biden's acuity, he's defending Trump's mental instability. C-Block (42:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Hal Steinbrenner, owner of the New York Yankees whose franchise has increased in value by three billion in just the last four years, is trying to convince people that maybe the Yankees aren't profitable. This is clownage as old as sports itself: the saga of the year the owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers insisted "we lost two million last year!"See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
