Welcome to our Sunday morning service. This morning Pastor Gary Barber is preaching on Luke 5:-27-39, “Jesus – Friend of Sinners & Unsettling Initiator.” We are going to see today how Jesus truly did “not come to call the righteous, but sinners” (Matthew 9:13). And as He walked among men He brought change that was not always welcome. We will see how this tension between the old and the new has continued throughout church history as new work has always required new methods, expressions, and structures. Are you willing to let Jesus change you? Are we, His Church, willing to let Jesus change us? We are thankful you have joined us and we know you will be blessed by this message, encouraged in your walk with the Lord, and ministered to by the Holy Spirit. Today is Communion Sunday. We encourage you to prepare communion elements (bread or crackers and some juice) and join us in communion at the end of the sermon. Be sure to download the Worship Guide before watching the sermon so you may follow along with Pastor Gary. Click “Download PDF“ and it will open in a new window where you may print it or save it to your computer.

First a leper, then a paralytic, and now a tax collector! Jesus calls Levi to be a disciple and Levi responds by throwing a party. For him everything has changed, and he wants everyone to know; he wants everyone to meet Jesus. But the Pharisees get a little upset with Jesus for spending time with tax collectors and sinners. He was going to parties and taking his disciples with him. Worst of all he was calling it ministry and the Pharisees didn’t like it. This was not the way a godly man should act. Jesus responds with a couple of parables to explain to them that with Jesus around everything has and will change. The same truth of change is ours today too.

We all have places in our hearts that are "off limits". Usually, these are the places where we are the most guilty, the most ashamed, the most filled with sin, the most corrupt. In the first sermon of our "Drawing Near" series, Dr. Sams reminds us that as we draw nearer to each other, and courageously share our spiritual messes, we discover we're drawing near to Jesus, the great healer of all our ailments. Christ uses His children drawing near to each other to draw us all near to Him. He sets us all free from shame, and draws us further into His kingdom.
