On today's episode, we welcome the multi-talented Kim Ray, a writer, producer, and director whose career spans reality TV, documentaries, and scripted projects. Best known for her work on the Netflix documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two, Kim's journey through the industry is an inspiring tale of creativity, resilience, and innovation. Our conversation begins with Kim's fascinating experience co-writing West Bank Story, a parody of West Side Story that cleverly blended humor with themes of peace and cultural commonality. As Kim describes, “It was about showing that even in a world full of conflict, there's so much that connects us.” The project, which gained significant recognition, was a testament to her ability to merge art with meaningful messages.Kim's transition into reality television was both unexpected and transformative. While it wasn't her original focus, she brought her narrative expertise to shows like The X Factor and Kendra on Top. “Reality TV,” Kim explains, “requires storytelling that's just as nuanced as scripted work. You're shaping real moments into something cohesive and engaging.” Her work on these projects highlights her adaptability and deep understanding of human emotion. One of the standout points in Kim's career was producing Gaga: Five Foot Two. The project offered an intimate glimpse into Lady Gaga's life, showcasing her vulnerabilities and strength. Kim recounts the challenges of crafting such an unfiltered narrative, saying, “The magic was in the authenticity. Gaga was raw and real, and we wanted viewers to feel like they were walking alongside her.” The minimal crew and close collaboration created an unparalleled connection between the subject and the audience.Beyond her professional achievements, Kim's insights into the industry's evolution are enlightening. She speaks candidly about the systemic challenges women face in Hollywood, sharing how she navigated a landscape often dominated by male voices. Her reflections on the #MeToo movement underscore the importance of platforms like social media for amplifying marginalized voices. “It's a double-edged sword,” Kim notes, “but it's also a powerful tool for change.”Kim's current project, Violet's New Life, delves into the futuristic concept of consciousness transfer. The short film and pilot explore what it means to live again in a synthetic body, blending technology and human emotion. As Kim puts it, “It's not just about immortality—it's about the psychology of starting over, carrying the weight of one life into another.”Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/bulletproof-screenwriting-podcast--2881148/support.

From Caviar to Commissary: Donna Adelson's Brutal New Life in Prison She once ruled a Miami dental empire—now she's learning to trade ramen for favors and sleep through screams in 100-degree heat.  At 75 years old, Donna Adelson has been convicted of first-degree murder and is staring down the rest of her life in a Florida prison system known for its brutality, its heat, and its utter indifference to wealth, age, or legacy. In this Hidden Killers breakdown, we examine Donna's likely trajectory from county jail to Florida Women's Reception Center… and ultimately to Lowell Correctional Institution, one of the most notorious women's prisons in America. What awaits her? Endless noise, public showers, no privacy, and a new power structure where money means nothing—and respect has to be earned in ramen packets. We pull apart what life really looks like for women inside Lowell, especially aging inmates: the sweat-drenched dorms, the hidden hustle economy, the kosher-tray bartering system, and the constant emotional pressure of knowing you're never getting out. Featuring real accounts, DOJ reports, and behind-the-scenes insights, we ask: Can Donna survive this world—or will she become someone entirely different trying to adapt?

Put on the New Life (Colossians 3:1-17) - Sunday, 28th September 20251. We have a New Perspective (Colossians 3:1-4)If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.2. We have a New Practice (Colossians 3:5-11)- Put off the 'old' self (Colossians 3:5-9)Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;- Put on the 'new' self (Colossians 3:10-11)And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.3. We have a New Identity (Colossians 3:12-17)Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Recreational ketamine use is on the rise. But why are some people using it to dissociate in the club? Ketamine – a dissociative anesthetic – is illegal without a prescription and can potentially be harmful. Yet, it has had a massive rise in recreational use over the past decade. One study found that use increased by 81.8% from 2015 to 2019 and rose another 40% from 2021 to 2022. What is driving the illicit drug's sudden popularity? And is it's dissociative properties indicative of our times? Brittany chats with P.E. Who doesn't love a good, nostalgic piece of homemade pie? It's the ultimate comfort food. You know the kind—golden, flaky crust… bubbling fruit or creamy filling… the scent filling the kitchen while someone you love pulls it out of the oven. It's more than dessert. It's a feeling. A memory. A moment of joy. In today's episode, I bring you a guest whose story is as comforting and inspiring as the pies she bakes. Meet Laurie Gray, the steadfast founder and creator of Laurie's Pie Bar, a beloved pie shop located in the heart of Long Beach, California. But here's the twist: Laurie never intended to become a pie entrepreneur. In fact, owning a dessert company wasn't even on her “life bingo card,” as she says. After a long and fulfilling career in corporate America, Laurie was laid off unexpectedly at age 50—as a single mom of two teens. In the middle of uncertainty, she turned to something familiar, simple, and soul-soothing: baking pies in her home kitchen. What started as a holiday side hustle to make ends meet quickly blossomed into a full-blown business—and Laurie's Pie Bar was born. In this heartwarming episode, you'll hear: The behind-the-scenes story of Laurie's unexpected reinvention How trusting her intuition led her to say yes to entrepreneurship The joy and meaning she finds in watching people connect through pie Her favorite part of owning a brick-and-mortar business in a digital age Why she believes pie holds a special place in people's hearts and homes Laurie reminds us that sometimes life's most fulfilling chapters come when we least expect them—and that sweetness can come out of even the most uncertain moments. Jamie takes a trip to the Great Minnesota Get-Together to talk with people and hear their thoughts on recycling, water quality, and products made from post-consumer plastics. He had some great conversations, including a chat with Lauren from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. They discussed how HDPE plastics can be recycled to make products like picnic tables and birdhouses--as well as drainage pipe, which uses a large volume of post-consumer plastic. Jamie also talked with Ann and Jennifer from the University of Minnesota Extension about the opportunities that exist to educate young people about local water quality, the role that plastic pipe manufacturing plays in recycling efforts, and potential careers in the water management industry. The last conversation in this episode is with Jacob from By the Yard, a Minnesota-based company that manufactures and sells lawn furniture made from recycled plastic. He and Jamie discuss their shared goal of keeping plastic out of landfills and how rewarding it is to do something good with recycled plastics. This sermon explores the contrast between old religious systems and the new covenant Jesus brings, emphasizing the power of faith in accessing God's healing and grace. Pastor Erin illustrates how Jesus introduces a new paradigm of relating to God through faith, rather than through ritualistic practices like fasting. The message culminates in a powerful example of faith demonstrated by a woman who was healed by touching Jesus' garment, highlighting the importance of recognizing our need for Christ, overcoming obstacles, and actively reaching out to Him in faith.

In this episode of Zen and the Art of Real Estate Investing, Jonathan welcomes Mikkel Thorup, founder and CEO of Expat Money, a consultancy helping clients navigate second residencies, international investments, and asset diversification. Known as one of the world's most sought-after expat consultants, Mikkel has lived in nine countries over 25 years and built a portfolio of properties across ten nations. His work focuses on mitigating tax liabilities, creating Plan B options through residency and citizenship, and guiding investors toward secure and profitable opportunities abroad. Jonathan and Mikkel explore how global real estate investing intersects with lifestyle choices, risk mitigation, and long-term legacy planning. Mikkel shares how his early exposure to real estate through his family shaped his investment philosophy, why he avoids debt-heavy strategies, and how he structures group deals to reduce developer risk. He also breaks down the benefits of international diversification, not just in geography, but also in currencies, timelines, and property types. The conversation extends beyond investment mechanics to the lifestyle and generational advantages of expat living, including multi-citizenship for children, cultural exposure, and community building. Mikkel emphasizes the importance of boots-on-the-ground research, building trust with developers and governments, and striking a balance between adventure and security. This episode provides a roadmap for investors who want to align real estate with global mobility, family resilience, and financial independence. In this episode, you will hear: Mikkel's journey from leaving school at 12 to becoming a leading global expat consultant The role of early family exposure to real estate in shaping his investment path Why he focuses on pre-construction and cash buying instead of debt-driven strategies How group purchasing reduces risk in international development projects The benefits of second residencies and citizenship as a long-term family legacy Currency diversification and geopolitical monitoring as part of global investing Structuring investments for both cash flow and capital appreciation abroad The importance of investor tours, trust, and seeing projects firsthand Top markets currently friendly to foreign investors: Costa Rica, Panama, and Paraguay Follow and Review: We'd love for you to follow us if you haven't yet.
