Romans : The Power of Grace | Week 18: God Is For Us, Jesus Loves Us | Jerry Gillis
In this Church on the Move Roswell message, Pastor Troy Smothermon speaks about being a “church on fire,” contrasting religion with a transformative relationship with Jesus that gives purpose beyond oneself. Using Psalm 67:1–2, he explains that God's mercy and blessing are meant to shine through believers so others can know His way and find salvation. He recounts the Welsh Revival as an example of prayer and fasting igniting widespread spiritual change and urges the church not to become lukewarm or let the flame go out like churches that became museums. Citing Mark 16:15, Luke 19:10, Acts 1:8, and Acts 2, he emphasizes the Holy Spirit's power to make believers bold witnesses, calls for praying and fasting for the lost, shares personal testimonies of evangelism, and ends with an invitation to surrender to Jesus in prayer.

In this Church on the Move Roswell message, Pastor Troy Smothermon explains from John 10 that Jesus is the Good Shepherd and believers can know His voice through time with Him, surrender, and obedience, contrasting yielded “sheep” with resistant “goats.” He then teaches that God calls people to be planted in a local church, using Psalms 92 and Jeremiah 17 to show that being rooted and watered by God's Word produces flourishing, stability in trouble, and fruitfulness even in drought. He warns against offense, convenience-driven drifting, and rebellion, emphasizing biblical loyalty built on truth, love, accountability, sacrifice, commitment, and shared vision. The sermon highlights that Jesus loves the church as His bride, is washing and preparing her for the marriage supper of the Lamb, and calls people to repent, return, and surrender to Christ.

In this Church on the Move sermon, Pastor Troy Smothermon uses Ephesians 5:25 as he argues that people cannot fully love Jesus without loving His bride, the church, and explains that the local church builds and sharpens people (Proverbs 27:17), combats loneliness through relationships, and teaches integrity, responsibility, sacrifice, and servant leadership. He calls older believers to disciple younger believers (Titus 2:2–8), urges members not to be the “missing piece” in the body (1 Corinthians 12:18), and challenges listeners to encourage a believer and share Jesus with someone who doesn't know Him.

John reminds us that God is light and God is love, and because we belong to Him, we should love one another with agape love, a deep affection that moves beyond words into action. The longer we follow Jesus, the more we will bear the character of our Father and love people the way He loves people. This is how we know love: Jesus willingly laid down His life for us. The cross is where we see love most clearly. To experience His grace is to be radically changed forever, and that love should overflow outward into the way we serve, give, and care for others. John challenges us not to just talk about love but to live it out. Love radically because you have been loved radically by God. Believe in Jesus and love people the way Jesus loves.Check out our video version of this episode: https://youtu.be/ykrJvU2w7osSubscribe to our YouTube channel here: https://youtu.be/8wmeCwBf_zkLearn more about us at chestnutmountain.orgFollow us on Facebook & Instagram @chestnutmtn_

Pastor Troy Smothermon explains why he loves the church—especially the local church—reading a letter about how refreshing church community is, sharing his testimony of being saved after trying to pull his brother from what he thought was a cult, and teaching that the local church is God's house, a pillar of truth, and essential for salvation, discipleship, and transformation. He ends with an invitation to surrender to Jesus and a congregational prayer of salvation.
Jesus uses all kinds of people to reach all kinds of people because He loves all kinds of people.

Pastor Troy launches a new series, “Why Jesus Loves the Church?”, while honoring mothers on Mother's Day with a message from Sally Green. Sally shares her experience of waiting 13 years for children, warning not to “waste the waiting,” rejecting lies about identity, and encouraging trust in God through daily prayer and the Word, including Galatians 6:9. She highlights motherhood beyond biology, the power of correction and forgiveness, and Mary's servant-hearted example. Pastor Troy teaches that the church is God's people, unstoppable even under persecution, and that Jesus loves the church because He purchased it with His blood, calling believers to value, unite, and belong to the church.
When Jesus came into this world, he established an eternal community called "the kingdom of God." Anyone in heaven or on earth who has submitted to King Jesus is a part of that kingdom, and the values & priorities of his kingdom are drastically different from those found in this world. #MoRealJesus

When it comes to God, doubt is a really big deal because there's so little we can prove. We are people of faith. We worship and serve an invisible God. We believe in another realm after we die, but no one ever sends postcards from there… So many of our beliefs are unseen and unprovable. By the time we're done today, I don't want you to be comfortable with your doubts, but I do hope you'll know what to do with them.Learn more about Mountaintop Church at: https://mountaintopchurch.com

Do you see the Church as central to the purposes of God in the world? He certainly does, and he will use his Church to accomplish his ends.
Life is a process. We know that if we've lived very long at all. And this week, we're talking about the process of trusting God.John 16:24 says, “Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.”Could Jesus meet our needs by just giving us something instantly? Of course. He made everything! And sometimes He does that; the miracles he performed that are recorded in the New Testament tell us that he often instantly met a person's need. But He doesn't always work that way. That's because Jesus loves to teach us.In the book of John, He is telling us the steps necessary to trust Him for provision. First, we ask. Then we learn to receive His good gifts. Finally, we feel real joy, because we know exactly where it came from. This process is designed to teach us faith and then to be genuinely appreciative to the Lord for meeting our needs. All through the Bible, we are told that He delights in helping us, in loving us through tough times. The older we get, the more we are able to look back and see that He and He alone brought us through. There is usually no other explanation. And that is called a miracle.Let's pray. Lord, we are dependent on you for everything, and we are blessed that you are our Source. In Jesus' name, amen. Change your shirt, and you can change the world! How does discipleship shape the way we make sense of pain and suffering in our lives? Why is Scripture so important—not only for our own spiritual growth, but also for the growth of our children? As a military wife, Hunter Beless began to recognize her own need for deeper discipleship amid the challenges and constant transitions of military life. She started seeking out conversations with those who could disciple and encourage her in her faith. Eventually, she decided to share those conversations with the women in her own circle and beyond through her podcast, *Journeywomen*. What she couldn't have anticipated was how essential those spiritual investments would become when she faced the sudden and tragic loss of her father to cancer. In that season of deep suffering, the roots of her faith helped sustain her.Hunter has not only pursued discipleship in her own life, but she has also spent significant time thinking about how to disciple her young children. In her most recent book, Jesus Loves You More, Hunter helps kids understand the depth of Christ's love for them as they grow in their desire to know Him.In this episode, Davey and Hunter talk about the profound role discipleship plays in the life of a believer, how we can wrestle with and trust in the sovereignty of God during seasons of suffering, and practical ways we can teach our kids Scripture so that when they face hardship, they know where to return—to God's truth and His love for them.If you are longing for relationships that will stir your affection for Jesus in the midst of pain, this conversation will encourage you to seek out people who can speak into your life and help strengthen your faith as you follow Him. Resurrection Sunday 2026 - Jesus Loves Lubbock/You Resurrection Sunday Service – John 21:1–14 Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week—a moment of celebration, expectation, and deep spiritual significance. As Jesus enters Jerusalem, the crowds cry out, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” They welcome Him as King, yet many misunderstand the kind of King He truly is. This day invites us to reflect on our own expectations of Jesus and to recognize Him not only as the One who comes to save, but as the One who comes in humility, peace, and truth. This Palm Sunday service centers on the theme “Blessed Is He Who Comes,” drawing together the celebration of Christ’s triumphal entry and the deeper question of recognizing who He truly is. In Matthew 11:1–11, we encounter a powerful moment of questioning and revelation. John the Baptist, who once boldly proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah, now sends word from prison: “Are You the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?” Jesus responds not with condemnation, but with assurance—pointing to the evidence of transformed lives, fulfilled prophecy, and the movement of God’s kingdom. This passage reminds us that even in moments of doubt, Jesus meets us with truth, grace, and clarity. Happy Monday! When introducing Alyson Croft on this podcast, it sounds like I am joking when I say, “2025 was the year of Alyson Croft.” It's not a joke! Alyson wrote, produced and starred in “Jesus Loves Me,” a fantastic film that had its World Premiere at Film Invasion Los Angeles 2025, taking home the Programmer's Prize for Exceptional Filmmaking. Alyson returned later that year to the Sherman Oaks Film Festival with “Tweens,” a thrilling dramatic short that she co-wrote and performs in. No surprise that “Tweens” also took home the Programmer's Prize for Exceptional Filmmaking. On top of that, we did a little additional screening between the two festivals that included “Jesus Loves Me,” officially the last in-theater Q&A's that I may ever personally moderate. Hey, this is a big deal for me! I moderated every Q&A at two festivals for nearly a decade, but now that the festivals have grown to multiple screens I am needed elsewhere. I've still got the podcast to interview filmmakers, but Alyson will always be one of my last in-theater Q&A's. Anna and Matt tell the story of Zacchaeus, a tax collector who climbed a tree just to see Jesus. Through this story from Luke 19, we'll learn that Jesus came to save sinners and that Jesus has the power to change our hearts.
Pastor Ricky will be finishing up his series on loving. He will be emphasizing the importance of loving the community that Christ died for. As the body of Christ, we need to keep our priorities in order. Our biggest priority should be to reach the lost and make disciples. A great way to reach our community is to look at the example of the apostles in the book of Acts. The apostles were led by the Holy Spirit to make disciples and then plant churches. Get involved in furthering God's kingdom.
Today Pastor Ricky will be asking you the question throughout his teaching, how will you be a witness for Jesus in the community that you live in? You're commissioned by Christ to preach the Gospel, make disciples, and be a witness in this dark, unbelieving world. Are you being the salt of the earth and a light to the world? If your answer is no then you need to repent because these commands are not suggestions. Pray, and look for open-door opportunities to reach out in your community.
Anna and Matt explore a wonderful truth: God wants to talk with us. Through the story of Jesus welcoming children in Mark 10:13–16, we learn that Jesus loves spending time with them and that they can talk with God anytime through prayer.
Kids hear the powerful story of Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman at the well. Through this conversation, Jesus reveals that He came to save sinners—not just one group of people, but anyone who believes in Him.
It’s easy to know that Jesus loves us, yet still struggle to believe it when we’re face-to-face with our own failures. Even after years of faith, we can quietly wonder if God’s love gets weaker when we fall short again—or if His patience eventually runs out. This devotional reminds us that God’s love is not fragile or dependent on our performance. His love doesn’t rise and fall with our obedience, emotions, or spiritual “good days.” Scripture makes it clear that love isn’t just something God does—it’s who He is. Jesus didn’t wait until we were cleaned up or worthy. He loved us at our worst. Romans 5:8 is a powerful reminder that Christ died for us while we were still sinners, proving that God’s love is steady, intentional, and unchanging. When we start believing the lie that we’re unlovable, we need to return to truth: nothing can separate us from Christ’s love. His love isn’t conditional, transactional, or something we can earn. It’s a gift of grace. Today is an invitation to rest in that reality and let God’s love reshape the way we see ourselves—and the way we love others. Main Takeaways God’s love does not depend on your performance or spiritual consistency. Jesus proved His love through the cross, not through your behavior. Nothing can separate you from God’s love—not failure, hardship, or weakness. Grace means you cannot earn God’s love, and you cannot lose it. When you feel unworthy, Scripture is the anchor that brings you back to truth. Today’s Bible Verse “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” - Romans 5:8 ESV Your Daily Prayer Prayer excerpt for listeners: “Help me to remember the Truth of Scriptures that Your love is not dependent on me, it’s not conditional, and it's not transactional.” Listen to the full prayer here, or to read the full devotional and prayer, visit the resources below.
