In this moving Good Friday sermon we explore the profound final words of Jesus on the cross: “It is finished.” Through Scripture, reflection, and powerful imagery, we reveal how these three words mark not a defeat, but the ultimate victory over sin, death, and Satan. Discover how Jesus' cry of triumph speaks to our unfinished business and offers eternal hope and freedom. CHAPTERS & TIMESTAMPS 00:00 – The Burden of Unfinished Business We begin with the relatable struggle of never quite getting everything done - a powerful setup for the message of the cross. 02:22 – Only One Finished the Work We share how Jesus, unlike anyone else in human history, completed everything he was sent to do. 03:13 – Jesus' Final Words Exploring John 19:28-30, we unpack the moment Jesus declared, “It is finished”, explaining its eternal significance. 05:42 – Misunderstood by the World Jesus was believed to be finished by friends and enemies alike - but his words meant something radically different. 06:47 – The Greek Word “Tetelestai” We delve into the rich meaning of Tetelestai, the Greek translation of the words Jesus used, and why it stands as the greatest victory cry in history. 10:09 – The Victory of the Cross Jesus laid down his life to complete the plan of redemption. His suffering wasn't the end - it was the fulfilment. 11:28 – Satan is Finished Through Christ's death, Satan's power was broken. Believers now stand victorious with a power greater than the enemy's. 13:25 – Forgiveness and Freedom The cross removes every accusation. You are forgiven, and Satan can no longer condemn you. 14:36 – Jesus' Work is Complete Jesus' death fulfills God's eternal plan. Nothing more can be added—salvation is fully accomplished. 16:45 – Nothing Left to Do But Believe With the cross complete, our only response is faith. We share a compelling illustration of salvation's simplicity. 18:27 – God's Grace Cannot Be Improved Like a masterpiece, God's salvation is finished. We can't add to it - only accept it. 20:57 – Come to the Cross We are invited to approach the cross, not with works, but with empty hands, resting in the completed work of Christ. 21:20 – It Is Finished. The Victory Is Won. A final moment of reflection and worship as we remember the completed victory of Jesus on the cross. In the Bible, God created Adam and Eve. One day, Satan came into the Garden of Eden and convinced both of them to eat from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. And when they did that, Adam and Eve disobeyed God's only commandment to them, and sin entered the world. Sin is what separates us from God. And when someone dies with sin in their heart, they'll face eternal separation from Him. But today, Pastor Gary reminds you that God gave the World Jesus so that all who believe in Him will have everlasting life!

If answered, Jesus' call to us results in an illuminated experience centred around finding true satisfaction in Christ. Join us as Stuart Jameson takes us through part 3 of our advent series: Light of the World.
Advent is a season that often gets overshadowed by the festive celebrations of Christmas. However, it holds a profound significance in the Christian calendar, inviting believers to reflect on the anticipation and hope that precede the arrival of Jesus Christ. Here we take a deeper look at the meaning of Advent through the lens of Paul's letter to the Galatians. This isn't just a distant historical account—it's a living invitation to discover an identity that truly sets you free.
Summary of the Passage (Matthew 6:5-18): Just like last week's hypocrites who give to the needy, Jesus rebukes hypocrites who pray and fast for recognition and praise. He instructs us to instead pray as He does in the iconic “The Lord's Prayer”. Jesus allows us to use Him as an example; commanding that we pray, forgive, and fast as He did—with full humility and with full intention to grow closer to the Father. Discussion Questions: 1. Verses 5-8: Where are we at? - What does prayer look like for you; which of these verses do you feel most accurately describes your prayer life? 2. Verses 9-13: The Lord's Prayer - Take some time to pray through The Lord's Prayer. - What did you think of this model of prayer? 3. Verses 14-15: Forgiveness and Prayer - As you prayed verse 12, were you convicted of any unforgiveness in your life? If you're honest, do you live a life marked by Jesus' forgiveness so that you can forgive others? 4. Verses 16-18: Fasting - Why do you think the Church treats fasting like a super discipline? Why do you think fasting is necessary and doable for ALL believers? Follow us @heightspeople // www.theheights.org

This passage highlights the world's hostility towards Christians and the appropriate response of believers.Key ThemesHostility from the World: Jesus warns that the world will hate His followers because it hated Him first. This hatred is rooted in the world's opposition to the values and teachings of Christ. The Call to Be Different: Christians are chosen to live distinct lives, embodying Christ's teachings and standing firm in their faith despite persecution. The Role of the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit empowers believers to witness and live out their faith boldly, acting as their Advocate and Guide.John 15:18-25 – The World's HatredVerse 18-19: The world hates Christians because they do not belong to the world; they are chosen by Christ.Verse 20-21: Jesus reminds His followers that they will be persecuted just as He was. This persecution is due to the world's ignorance of God.Verse 22-25: Jesus' coming exposed sin, and those who reject Him also reject God. This fulfils the prophecy of being hated without cause (Psalms 35:19; 69:4).Historical ContextEarly Christians faced severe persecution, accused of disloyalty, insurrection, and bizarre charges like cannibalism due to misunderstandings.Today, Christians are often seen as nonconformists, and their moral standards can be perceived as a silent condemnation of others.Responsibilities of Being Chosen by JesusPartnership with Christ: Believers are partners, not just followers. They share in His mission to lead the world to God.Ambassadors for Christ: Christians are to represent Christ in the world, living a life that attracts others to the faith.Living Advertisements: By embodying Christian virtues, believers spread Christianity through their actions, not just words.Privileged Members of God's Family: Believers have the privilege of prayer, guided by faith, alignment with God's will, and selflessness.Practical ApplicationIn the Church: Active involvement in both the Lord and fellowship with other believers is crucial. Joining small groups fosters connections, support, and true fellowship. In the World: Believers are called to witness to non-believers, navigating obstacles with the insight and power of the Holy Spirit.ConclusionCall to Action: Abide in Christ, love one another, and witness to the world. Whether you are a long-time believer or seeking to know more about Jesus, focus on Christ, follow His commands, and engage in meaningful relationships with other believers.Invitation: For those who do not know the Lord, an invitation to learn about Jesus Christ personally, trust in Him, and experieSupport the Show.Jeremy McCandless is creating podcasts and devotional resources | PatreonHelp us continue making great content for listeners everywhere.https://thebibleproject.buzzsprout.com
The largest section of the Apostle's Creed is about Jesus. In fact, roughly 65 percent of the words are about Jesus. It's clear this creed is not about doctrine, but a person. And the second line of the creed has the Apostles saying that Jesus is their “Lord.” This means not only deep personal attachment to Jesus, but allegiance to Him and only Him, above all others. But why? Why does Jesus demand to be Lord? We dive into what obedience is - what it isn't - and why Jesus says that choosing Him as Master is - rather ironically - the *only* way to not be enslaved. You Are the Salt of the World! Jesus Teaches His Disciples and Us What This Means! Today's Gospel, from the discourse on the mountain, brings Jesus' disciples together so He may teach them. Jesus tells His disciples that the way each of them have chosen has a demand. Jesus provides His disciples with two images. The first is salt. The second image is the image of life. Salt is very common in today's world. We see it on our tables. We see it in the food stores. Today, it is not very expensive. Indeed, one might classify it as an inexpensive commodity. But in the ancient world, salt was very different. It was used for cooking, and also a means to preserve food. Salt, then as it does today, gives food a special taste. In the Roman days, Rome's military was paid, at least in part, with salt. Salt was very important, in ancient times and in the days of Jesus and the Apostles. If you continue on the way you chose, your life will become more important . . . more important than you can imagine. You will become like salt is to the world! Your life will be tested. But it will be tested for God. You will preserve the presence of God in you and in the world! Hear what Jesus is teaching His disciples and Us! Listen to this Meditation Media. Thank you for joining us for this Palm Sunday service at Horizon West Church! Today's message centers on the passage in John 8 where Jesus identifies Himself as the Light of the World. We know we need light, we know light is good for us, but when we have something we want to keep hidden, we pull away from the Light. Listen as Pastor Chris teaches us how the Light shows us the way to wholeness and peace. If you prayed to make Jesus your Lord today, we want to rejoice with you! If you would want someone to pray with you, we are eager to do so! If you would like more information about our church, we're want to share. Please text the word "NEXT" to 407-77 so we can engage with you. For more information about our in-person Sunday morning services, visit https://horizonwestchurch.com. You can also learn more about our midweek events at https://horizonwestchurch.com/events.
This week Pastor Dan continues our series, Jesus in His Own Words, and talks about when Jesus talks about being the Light of the World and how that also applies to us as well.
The actions of one person affect many... There is a comparison in the Scriptures that shows you what Adam's sin vs Christ's righteousness did for us. Today we will look at Romans 5:12-21 Adam Sin brought Death into the world When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned. For the sin of this one man, Adam brought death to many. Adam's sin brought condemnation Cause sin to rule over many Christ's Death Brought Life into the World Jesus brought the gift of forgiveness to many God's free leads to righteousness even though we are guilty The sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to be king over all, but all who will take God's gift of forgiveness and acquittal are kings of life[d] because of this one man, Jesus Christ. V17 TLB Christ's righteousness to those who receive it will triumph over sin and death through Jesus Adams one sin vs Jesus one act Yes, Adam's one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ's one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. 19 One person disobeyed vs One person Obeyed Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous. God's law shows our sin and his grace God's law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God's wonderful grace became more abundant. Sin used to rule but now grace rules So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God's wonderful grace rules instead, giving us the right standing with God resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. The Digest Sin came into the world through Adam's sin and every time we sin we identify with Adam We all came from the Adam family line of sin, guilt, and punishment but we can trade family lines and be born again into Christ's family where there is righteousness, forgiveness, and eternal life Everyone is either in Adam or in Christ. If we do nothing we stay in Adam's family and die. If we come to God through Jesus we live which family do you belong to? The Chew Sin can't overpower grace.
The reason for celebrating Christmas = Jesus. Light of the World = Jesus. Therefore, Christmas Light = Jesus. In today's teaching, Pastor Ben brings us a beautiful teaching to remind us what the real reason for Christmas is all about...to give each other the gift of the Love of Jesus. As the latest technological gadgets come and go, the Love of Jesus is here to stay forever. Which gift would you rather give/receive? Would you rather one that you'll end up throwing away in a couple of years (modern gadgets), OR One that will never go out of style, but instead, will last forever (the Love of Jesus)? Let the true Christmas Light (Jesus) shine upon you and everyone that you encounter. If you'd like to join us, please visit us at 4218 Boston Ave. Lubbock Texas. You can also call us at (806) 799-2227, email us at calvarylubbock@hotmail.com, or visit us online at CalvaryChapelLubbock.church. Today we start a new series, “Light of The World”, with Pastor Ira sharing how the temporary nature of our world, causes us to find and eventually lose hope. During the holiday season, we can be especially vulnerable. Yet the Light of Hope that can be truly found in Christ can give us something of lasting impact.Key Scripture Passages:John 1:1-13, 8:12, Psa 33:6-7, Luk 1:17, 2 Cór 3:18, Isa 40:31, Jam 1:17, 1 John 1:5
A Day Is Coming – Part 1 MESSAGE SUMMARY: We are entering the season of Advent, which means “coming” or “arrival”. The Church begins this season of “arrival” or Advent as the time we recognize and celebrate the “arrival” of Jesus – both Jesus' “first coming” and His “second coming”. We celebrate Jesus' “first coming” on Christmas Eve. The season of Advent is, also, the beginning of the Church's “New Year”. Today, we begin our focus for Advent on Jesus “second coming” as promised by the Jesus in Luke 21:27-28: “And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to take place, straighten up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”. Jesus realized that his first “arrival” on Earth was to sacrifice and to fulfil the Old Testament prophesies. Jesus knew, also, that His “first arrival” would provide a means that, through His sacrifice and Resurrection, could give all humans a personal relationship with God. However, Jesus knew that, after His sacrifice in His “first coming” into the World, that He would return to the World – Jesus' “second coming”. Jesus' “arrival”, in His “second coming”, is described, in the Bible text, that 1) Jesus is coming as the Son of Man – a term Jesus used to refer to Himself, from God's perspective; 2) Jesus is coming in a cloud; 3) Jesus' coming is preceded with certain signs in the Universe – all the “signs”, described in the Scripture, have already happened; and 4) the time of His coming being will be “soon” but “unknown”. As we are told in James 5:7-8, Jesus is coming again: “Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient about it, until it receives the early and the late rains. You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand.". The Bible, clearly, teaches that Jesus is coming into the World again – the “second coming”. What do we need to do given the certainty of Jesus' “second coming”? In Luke 21:34-36, Jesus answers this important question regarding our preparation for His “second coming”: “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.”. Be reminded that the “cares” and “anxieties” of our lives can trap us from being ready for Jesus' “second coming”. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift! Thank you that there is nothing I can do to earn your love; it comes without any strings attached. As I close my eyes for these few minutes before you, all I can say is, thank you! TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM RIGHTEOUS IN GOD'S EYES. God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21).
