This September marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and Father Dave welcomes Kevin Tuerff to inspire kindness leading up to this anniversary. Kevin is an author, speaker, and founder of the global charity Pay It Forward 9/11, which is dedicated to honoring lives lost and the heroes of this tragedy through random acts of kindness for strangers. His own story of that day is chronicled in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical "Come From Away."

Send us Fan MailI've recently been consuming episodes of the popular TV show "Heated Rivalry" which has taken the world by storm.  I've watched and re-watched all six episodes, listened to podcasts about the show and I've consumed many, many podcasts where people have reviewed the show, commented (and cried and cheered) in real time.  The tenderness, realness and flat-out courage of the characters portrayed in these gay love stories has opened the floodgates of my tears many times.Years ago, when I lived in Seattle, I told myself that someday I wanted to be "fully me" and to not be compartmentalized with different people regarding who I am and my current truth.  I came out as gay in late 1999.  Because of my former background in the Christian church, I found myself in the position of not being my true self in multiple scenarios in my life- notably in my relationships in my family and with folks who knew me in my "former church life". Many of these people thought they knew me and what I believed in leaving the church- even though the majority of what they came up with was far, far from my truth.  They choose to live in their own worlds and belief systems, extrapolating their own beliefs and their own truth onto me and my experience.I've been thinking about doing a podcast like this for quite awhile now.  Watching "Heated Rivalry" and observing the various fictional characters grow and evolve has given me the extra push I needed to do this podcast. Here's what no one tells you about pricing: it's not really about the numbers. You can research your competitors, run the calculations, and land on a rate that makes perfect sense on paper — and still feel a knot in your stomach every time you say it out loud. That knot? Zack: I was trapped recently in one of those coffee drive-thru lines where the car in front of you paid for your order. Over and over throughout Holy Week, we see Jesus doing the hard thing because He loves us. Jesus Christ was never bolder or more clear about His true identity than in the final days before His death on the cross.He loves us enough to get in our face and call us out when we are on a path that is heading to destruction. The words and actions of Jesus may seem harsh, but in reality they were loving. Jesus was the king of tough love. But tough love isn't for the tender-hearted who desperately want to please the Father. Palm Sunday wasn't just marketing for Jesus. It was an offer to accept Jesus Christ as King. Our Messiah—our King—is one to whom we swear allegiance because we trust Him. To be saved by faith is not just accepting the gift of eternal life. It is trusting Jesus Christ enough to follow Him and obey even when we don't understand where He is taking us and why the journey is so hard. This doesn't mean we have no doubts or that we need to have perfect faith before we can be saved. It means that, despite our doubts, we affirm the ancient declaration: “Jesus Christ is Lord.”For the next three episodes, we'll be lingering in the Easter season with thoughts on Jesus the King, the nature of "tough love" and how Jesus wielded it during Holy Week, and the incredible exchange that He offers through His death and resurrection.
