Israel spent 400 years in Egypt. Even after God rescued them, Egypt was still in them.In Luke 5:15–16, Jesus models a different rhythm. As His popularity explodes and the crowds grow, He withdraws to the wilderness to pray. Why?Because the wilderness is not punishment. It's purification.God empties His people of Egypt and fills them with faith. And if Jesus needed time in the wilderness to resist the temptation to “skip the cross and take the crown,” how much more do we?If you are never intentionally emptied, you will be accidentally filled by the world. The wilderness is not where we retreat. The wilderness is where we get ready.---

n the Gospel of Luke, chapters 5 and 6, Jesus is not one to tiptoe around controversy. He wades right into the middle of it. He forgives sins, dines with sinners, and heals on the Sabbath, and the Pharisees are consumed with rage. What's there to be angry about with grace? In this sermon, we will examine the healing of the paralytic, the calling of Levi, and the Sabbath incidents, and discover a surprising truth: conflict was not the problem. It was the revelation of the heart. Jesus was not simply rebuking behavior, He was laying bare pride, challenging false security, and offering true grace. If you've ever wondered why following Jesus can be so uncomfortable, why the gospel is so awkward, or why Jesus confronts before He comforts, then this series is for you. The cross is not safe, but it is good. And the conflict of the cross is where restoration begins.Learn more about us:https://www.tulsabible.org/Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/tulsabible/TBC - To know God, and make Him known.(Matt. 28. 18-20)
This is a powerful message that draws from Luke 5:27-32 to observe the mission of Christ to call sinners to repentance. This is set in the example of Levi also called Matthew who left everything to follow Christ. However, Jesus's relationship with him and other "sinners" opened Him to criticism from the mainstream preachers and scholars. Do you remember how Jesus responded?

What if following God meant leaving everything comfortable behind? In Luke 5, Jesus calls ordinary fishermen, and they walk away from their boats, their income, their security. We love the idea of purpose... We don't love the cost, but sometimes faith isn't about clarity, it's about surrender.

In Luke 5:12–14, Jesus does the unthinkable—He touches a leper.Leprosy wasn't treated as a sickness. It was treated as death. Isolation. Exile. Shame. The living dead. But when this man falls before Jesus and says, “If you are willing…,” Jesus responds with both power and compassion: “I am willing.” And immediately, everything changes. This message reveals the Kingdom Way—Jesus doesn't just restore people FROM death. He restores them TO community. Grace brings us back to life, and it brings us back home.

In Luke 5:1–11, Peter obeys Jesus' command to go deeper and experiences abundance — then leaves everything to follow Him. This 2 Minute Disciple devotional invites us to trust Jesus in areas of disappointment and “Go Deeper” in faith today.
In the opening message of the Sightline series, Pastor Nick Newman taught that many people can be near Jesus yet still disconnected from Him, often preoccupied with “cleaning their nets” instead of surrendering their lives. Through Luke 5:1–4, he showed that Jesus steps into our mess before we clean it up, offering a divine interruption that redirects our future, invites us deeper, and calls us to trust His voice over our frustration. This message was recorded live on February 15th, 2026.

February 8, 2026 | Pastor Adam Muhtaseb continues the Seek and Save series in Luke 5:27-35.
In this verse-by-verse Bible teaching, Pastor Kevin walks through Luke 5:27–39, focusing on Jesus' call of Levi and what it reveals about Christ's heart for sinners. This study explores the contrast between the compassion and mercy of Jesus and the self-righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, highlighting His mission to call sinners to repentance as the Great Physician. Pastor Kevin explains the meaning of repentance, the necessity of humility before God, and the danger of relying on outward religion instead of a changed heart. The passage also points to the joy and freedom of new life under grace, illustrated through the images of the bridegroom, new wine, and new wineskins. This teaching offers clear biblical insight into the difference between law and grace and the transforming work of Jesus in those who follow Him.
“Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” Peter's reaction to a miraculous catch of fish is more fearful than joyful in the presence Jesus' holiness. In final episode of The Magnificent 37, we examine three miracles involving the disciples' work and witness: the initial calling of the fishermen in Luke 5, the post-resurrection catch in John 21 that restores Peter, and the healing of Malchus' ear in Gethsemane. These signs reveal a Savior who provides abundantly for His Church, restores the fallen to service, and extends mercy even to His enemies in the hour of darkness. The Rev. Dr. Matthew Richard, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Minot, ND, joins the Rev. Dr. Phil Booe to study Luke 5:1–11, John 21:1–14, and Luke 22:50–51. To learn more about St. Paul's in Minot, visit anchoredminot.com. Thy Strong Word kicks off the new year by dedicating our time to study "The Magnificent 37: The Miracles of Jesus." Christ didn't just speak the Word; He demonstrated it with power. From the quiet intimacy of water turning to wine at Cana to the earth-shaking reality of the empty tomb, the Gospels record thirty-seven distinct moments where Jesus suspended the laws of nature to reveal the power of his grace. This isn't just a list of "neat tricks" from history. It is a systematic walkthrough of how God breaks into our broken world to fix it. Why did Jesus curse a fig tree? Why did He need mud to heal a blind man? What does the coin in the fish's mouth teach us about being citizens of heaven and earth? Host, Pastor Phil Booe and a lineup of guest pastors will take you through each event, verse by verse. We'll move past the Sunday School summary and get into the meat of the text, including the Old Testament connections, the cultural context, and the immediate comfort these signs bring to your life today. Thy Strong Word, hosted by Rev. Dr. Phil Booe, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church of Luverne, MN, reveals the light of our salvation in Christ through study of God's Word, breaking our darkness with His redeeming light. Each weekday, two pastors fix our eyes on Jesus by considering Holy Scripture, verse by verse, in order to be strengthened in the Word and be equipped to faithfully serve in our daily vocations. Have you ever felt unworthy of God's grace? Have you ever felt too ashamed to come to Christ with your sins? If so, then this message is for you! In his message, “A Savior For Sinners,” centered on Luke 5:1-32, Pastor Josiah shows us how Jesus came to seek and to save those who are lost or have tried to hide from his presence for fear that they will be rejected or condemned. God's word tells us that Jesus did not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance! Therefore, today is the day to come to Jesus in repentant faith, because he alone has the power to forgive your sins.

Jesus says that only the sick need a doctor. Are you sick? Do you need a doctor? It's not an easy thing to admit. Each week, we share engaging, expository messages and verse-by-verse Bible teaching from Lead Pastor David Sorn and other trusted guest speakers. "You can't have Jesus as Savior without submitting to Jesus as Lord."In Mark 4:35-41, we witness Jesus commanding the wind and waves with just His words. The disciples asked, "Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey Him!" This wasn't just a good teacher or healer - this was the Creator God demonstrating His lordship over creation. We all face storms in life - divorce, depression, loss, prodigal children. The world offers temporary fixes that leave us empty, but Jesus doesn't just save us from the storm; He calms the storm itself. As Psalm 46:1-3 reminds us, "God is our refuge and strength, a helper who is always found in times of trouble."Three questions to wrestle with this week: • Will you turn the storms of your life over to Jesus? • Is Jesus' forgiveness enough for you? • Will you allow God to do mighty things in your life?
This verse-by-verse Bible teaching, taught by Pastor Kevin, covers Luke 5:12–26 and centers on Jesus' compassion, authority, and power to cleanse and forgive. The message walks through the healing of the leper and the paralytic, showing how physical healing points to a deeper spiritual need, the forgiveness of sins. Drawing from both Luke and the Old Testament law in Leviticus, Pastor Kevin explains how leprosy serves as a picture of sin and why only Jesus can truly make a person clean. The passage also highlights visible, active faith as friends bring the paralyzed man to Jesus, trusting Him completely. Together, these scenes reveal Jesus as the Son of Man who has authority on earth to forgive sins and restore lives.
