In this first message in our 2024 Reformation series, Pastor Ben looks at what it is that serves as the legal basis for our justification. While faith is the instrument by which we receive salvation, we are not saved because of faith, but rather because of the finished work of Christ on our behalf. Join us as we explore the ground of our salvation!

Seven Truths: 1 No one is declared righteous before God by observing the law (vss.19-20) 2 There is a righteousness from God that is apart from the law (vs.21) 3 The righteousness from God is received through faith in Jesus Christ (vs.23) 4 The righteousness is available to everyone on the same basis because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (vs.23) 5 All who put their faith in Jesus Christ are justified freely by God’s grace (vs.24) 6 This justification is through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus (vs.24) 7 God presented Jesus as a sacrifice of atonement through faith in His blood (vs25)
Sermon Series: We Believe... Romans 3:19-26
Why is sin so bad? Why would a loving God get angry about sin? If God is so loving, why does he have to punish sin? If you’ve thought about these questions, or had someone ask you these questions, it’s important to know the Truth! Listen as Elder Dave Shumaker answers these questions as he teaches us from the books of Romans and Exodus. Before we can understand the GOOD NEWS of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, we have to understand the BAD NEWS. The Gospel we share must be clear and God-honoring. This is the most important message we can offer to a lost world! That’s why it’s so crucial that we REACH OUT to others and share the salvation message about Jesus. The Gospel summarized in 5 statements (Romans 3:21-25): • The Old Testament can’t save, but it can tell you how be saved. • The righteousness we all need comes through faith. • All people need faith because all sin. • God declares those with faith to be legally righteous because of Jesus’ redemptive death. • We can be saved by Jesus’ sacrifice because it satisfies God’s wrath.

Part 5. This message explores Romans 3:19-26. We've learned that we cannot save ourselves but are all in need of God's power to save. So how do we access that?

We are made right with God only through faith - through trusting in Jesus' finished work - and not by anything we can add to it.

We believe in a God who has a standard for righteousness, meets His standard of righteousness, and holds to His standard of righteousness. As humans, we can never meet God's standards and expectations on our own, but God reminds us that we can meet the standard of righteousness by faith in Jesus Christ who atones for our sins. Reconciliation with God can only happen through Jesus Christ.
