When Was the Hebrew Bible Finished?

How the Bible Was Formed E3 — Today, most Bibles are a single book that's easy to carry and flip through. But the Bible started as an assortment of scrolls, bound together into a collection. The Hebrew Bible—or the Old Testament—went through a centuries-long, iterative development process with a variety of scribes and prophets. It didn't come into its final form until roughly the time of Jesus. So how does this history interact with a view of Scripture as God's word? In this episode, Jon and Tim continue exploring the formation of the Bible, discussing how to hold a high view of these sacred texts while also acknowledging the humans who shaped them. CHAPTERSAn Inspired, Collaborative Work Over Centuries (0:00-12:00)A Final Shaping of the Hebrew Bible After Exile (12:00-26:59)The Second Temple Period's Flourishing Literary Culture (26:59-43:42)The Tanak's Standardization as the Masoretic Text (43:42-53:32)Wisdom Literature Designed for Meditation and Formation (53:32-1:00:03)Coming to Peace With the Bible's Formation (1:00:03-1:05:02)OFFICIAL EPISODE TRANSCRIPTView this episode's official transcript.REFERENCED RESOURCESThe Journey from Texts to Translations: The Origin and Development of the Bible by Paul D. Is prayer really worth it? What's the point if God already knows everything—or when it feels like He isn't answering?   In this message, Pastor Adam helps us reframe prayer not as performance or obligation, but as an honest, ongoing conversation with a relational God- The Father. Through Psalm 73, Philippians 4, and James 5, we learn that sometimes the most powerful prayer we can pray is: “God, change my heart.”

Messy Family Podcast : Catholic conversations on marriage and family

“Unleashing the heart of the Father is a power the world does not know.”   Summary God wants us to know Him as a father.  We as parents are to prepare the hearts of our children to know the father by acting like him.  So when our children wonder what God is like, we should be able to say to them, “God loves you as I love you, but so much better”.  For us to do that, we need to know what God is like, so we can act as him.  In this podcast we break open the Word of God to share with you how God describes Himself in the Bible and how we can come to know Him better by reading what He has told us!     Key Takeaways God wants to “father” His people in the Old Testament Isaiah 64:8 Jeremiah 31:20 Deuteronomy 14:1 Jesus says he has come “from the Father”  that He is a son John 14 Matt 11:25 John 16:23  Jesus tells us that WE are sons and that God is Our Father too! Matthew 23:9 Matthew 6:6   1 John 3:1 Galatians 4:6 Luke 12:32 2 Corinthians 6:16-18 John 20:17 Why does this matter?  Because we are to be like Our Father.  We as parents are to act like him, imitate Him, take on His characteristics in flesh so our children can believe they have a heavenly Father who loves them, will always be there and never fail them.  Psalm 103:13 Matt7:10   Couple Discussion How does God want to be a father to us?  To our children?  Are there any obstacles to us calling God “Father”?  Take some time to pray into those this week.

The Exodus Way E10 — The Exodus story was core to the identity of ancient Israel. Inspired by the prophet Isaiah's words, 1st-century Israelites were awaiting a new exodus, where a new Moses-like figure would deliver them from Roman oppression. The gospels present Jesus as that figure, who saves people from sickness, hunger, spiritual oppression, and even death itself. And following Jesus' resurrection and the coming of the Holy Spirit, the early Jesus movement became known as “The Way,” carrying a message of salvation for all nations. In this episode, Jon and Tim explore how the new exodus people in the book of Acts embody the prophet Isaiah's vision.CHAPTERSRecap and Acts as an “Isaianic” New Exodus (0:00-9:44)Isaiah's New Exodus Language in Luke-Acts (9:44-26:18)Exodus and Acts' Shared Theme of the Victorious Creator God (26:18-35:03)A New Exodus for All Nations (35:03-45:24)OFFICIAL EPISODE TRANSCRIPTView this episode's official transcript.REFERENCED RESOURCESActs and the Isaianic New Exodus by David W. Public Faith, Private Strength: Living as Children of God The Homily begins by reflecting on the daily act of making choices, . . . . . . beginning with a personal story about struggling to wake up early for school. This serves as a metaphor for the broader and more meaningful choices we face in life, such as choosing to be kind, forgiving, and generous. However, the most crucial decision is choosing God. God's Children Choosing God brings not only spiritual benefits, such as being gathered, cleansed, and made into God's children, but also emotional strength and confidence . . . much like the boost we feel when a parent is present and supportive. The Homily continues and draws parallels between this and recognizing God's constant presence. We hear briefly the biblical story of Jesus raising Lazarus, and true faith requires more than good works; it demands a public and unwavering profession that Jesus is the Son of God. This faith should be visible even in ordinary moments, like praying before meals in public. The season of Lent is highlighted as a special time to renew this choice for God, affirming that only in Him do we find true fulfillment and salvation. Listen to this Meditation Media. We can learn a lot about the nature of God from his Divine Name revealed in Scripture. When God said to Moses, “I am who I am,” this was a revelation of a name as well as a refusal of a name. Fr. Mike explains how this mystery reveals truths about God: he is infinitely above all things; we cannot comprehend him, yet he draws close to us. This Divine Name expresses the steadfast, faithful, unchanging love of God for his people, even when we betray and abandon him. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 205-211. In this episode, we discuss the nature of God, “who” God is, beginning with God the Father. Our reading explains how the Creed begins with God the Father because he is the first Divine Person of the most Holy Trinity. God is one Divine Being made up of three persons, and his identity is a deep mystery. Fr. Mike explains that God is a single ‘what' made up of three ‘who's.' Despite this mystery, God is not an anonymous force. He has revealed himself to us by making his name known to us, and he has thus made himself accessible.
