Another busy Summer weekend in the book. Had a Rock Stop on Friday, spent several hours in the sun & heat on Saturday getting the lawn mowed, jammed out at 80's Fest on Saturday night, and marched in the Sparta Butterfest parade yesterday. Needless to say, I need a nap. But before all that, we've got work to do! In the news this morning, the US & Iran have reached an agreement, a Wausau man pleads guilty to defrauding investors out of millions of dollars, a recall on alfredo sauce, a Wisconsin man allegedly kidnapped his roommate, and a deadly plane crash in Kansas kills the pilot of the plane and 11 skydivers. In sports, the Brewers take two out of three from the Phillies this weekend including the series opener on Friday where the Miz absolutely OWNED Philly, the Knicks beat the Spurs in San Antonio on Saturday night to clinch the NBA title, the Carolina Hurricanes beat the Vegas Golden Knights last night in game six to win Lord Stanley's Cup, Denny Hamlin won his third straight NASCAR Cup race, and Team USA opened up their World Cup with a 4-1 win over Paraguay on Friday. We let you know what's on TV today/tonight An incredible story about an organ donor who sadly passed away at a very young age, but was still able to give the gift of life to several other families in need. Plus, a couple of young teenage boys in Iowa are being recognized for saving an elderly woman who was stuck outside for over 16 hours. Elsewhere in sports, a recap of last night's UFC 250 event at the White House, James Harden gets arrested over the weekend, and former NFL player Aldon Smith dies at the age of 36. Apparently, online shopping addiction is so rampant in South Korea, they've developed an extremely unique way to battle against it. According to some new research, 33% of Generation X(ages 45 to 61) say that they are still dependent on their parents to some degree! And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a Canadian man who got cited for drunken kayaking, a woman in Texas is suing McDonald's because of a problem with her Egg McMuffin, a #FloridaMan who got arrested for DUI and had 34 empty White Claw cans on his passenger seat, and a woman dies tragically in a bungee-jumping accident.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Throughout our conversation, she reminds us that joy is not separate from the work of protecting public lands and that it's often what makes that work possible.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/outdoor.minimalist.book/Website: https://www.theoutdoorminimalist.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@theoutdoorminimalistBuy Me a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/outdoorminimalistListener Survey: https://forms.gle/jd8UCN2LL3AQst976------------------Rangers of the Lost ParkWebsite: https://rangersofthelostpark.transistor.fm/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@RangersoftheLostParkPodcastApple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/rangers-of-the-lost-park/id1822915251Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/rangersofthelostpark

Welcome back to the grind. Expect a bunch of rain this week! Saves me from having to water the lawn. In the news this morning, a recall on baby wipes sold at Target, a Marine fought off a teenager who attempted to rob him, a shooting at a festival in Ohio over the weekend, the remains of a missing student are found in Japan, a trailer carrying fireworks catches fire on a highway in Tennessee, and a 70 year old man in Massachusetts is facing attempted murder charges after trying to drown a teenager. In sports, the Brew Crew swept the Rockies over the weekend, the Miz sets a record on the speed gun, a recap of the NBA & NHL playoff action from the weekend, the President's appearance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals tonight, Mitch Marner sets a record with his hat trick on Saturday, and Denny Hamlin gets a win in Michigan yesterday. We talked about what's on TV today/tonight, and we discussed the Osbourne's plans to create an A.I. version of Ozzy…and whether or not it's a cash grab. A family that took in a pregnant stray cat realized that she had not five babies…but six! A couple of dudes in Canada helped a baby moose reunite with it's mother after getting separated on a highway by a jersey barrier, and it appears that the Star Wars Lego sets are making their way back to the original owners. In food-related news, Chipotle plans to give away a bunch of freebies after the NBA Finals, KFC has a collectible Krypto bucket, and last year it was jalapenos in your wine…this year it's apparently frozen pickles. Elsewhere in sports, there's a lawsuit trying to stop the UFC event at the White House from happening, the Tampa Bay Lightning goalie wins the Vezina trophy, the Bears moving to Indiana took another step forward this weekend, and Golden Tempo returned to the track to win the Belmont Stakes. Apparently, lots of people don't update their software on their various devices…so we looked at the reasons why the don't. Do you suffer from "Email Apnea"? And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about kid that ended up in the hospital after eating a THC lollipop, a #FloridaWoman who got scammed by a fake Liam Neeson, a 37 year-old woman pretended to be a 12 year-old girl for 14 months in order to get adopted by a family, a robot wearing a clown wig kicked a kid, and a #FloridaMan was watering his lawn with a hose in one hand…and his hose in the other hand.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A strong jobs report took center stage this week, but the market's reaction was anything but straightforward. The Dow Jones Industrial Average slipped about 0.3%, while the S&P 500 fell 2.6% and the Nasdaq dropped 4.7%. Despite the pullback, all three major indexes remain positive for the year, with the Dow up 5.8%, the S&P 500 up 7.9%, and the Nasdaq ahead by 10.6%. The Money Wise guys discuss how a stronger-than-expected employment report, combined with rising Treasury yields, created a “good news is bad news” environment for investors. After nine consecutive weeks of gains and indexes trading well above their 200-day moving averages, the market appeared ripe for a pause as investors took profits and reassessed expectations for future interest rate cuts. Much of the conversation focuses on the growing divide between investing and speculation. The guys highlight increasing risk-taking among retail traders, the expansion of leveraged investment products, and recent regulatory changes making day trading more accessible to smaller investors. They argue that too many market participants are chasing quick gains rather than focusing on fundamentals, discipline, and long-term ownership of quality businesses. The discussion also touches on private credit, cryptocurrency, and other products that blur the line between investing and gambling. The broader takeaway was that successful investing still requires research, patience, and a long-term perspective, even when speculation appears easier or more exciting in the short run. Investing vs. Gambling Investing and gambling can sometimes look similar on the surface, but the underlying objectives are very different. Investing is built around owning productive assets, participating in the growth of businesses, and making decisions based on fundamentals, valuation, and long-term potential. Gambling, on the other hand, typically relies on short-term outcomes, speculation, and the hope of a quick payoff. As new trading platforms, leveraged products, and prediction markets continue to gain popularity, the line between the two can become blurred. For long-term investors, maintaining a disciplined process and focusing on the underlying value of what they own remains a far different approach than chasing the latest trend or attempting to predict short-term market movements. In the second hour, the Money Wise guys explore RIA vs. Broker. You don't want to miss the details! In today's episode of Backpacker Radio presented by The Trek, brought to you by Topo Athletic, we are joined by Liz Crandall, a former US Forest Service field ranger who was fired by DOGE last February and has since transitioned into advocacy, activism, and podcasting, serving as the host of Rangers of the Lost Park.  In this one, Liz walks us through nine years of climbing the federal government's career ladder, from GS3 volunteer to permanent employee, and what it actually felt like to receive the phone call telling her it was over. She breaks down the DOGE firing process, the spam-looking emails that nobody believed were real, the Fork in the Road offer that most people didn't take, and what it looked like inside a Forest Service office where even the people who voted for the administration were crying. She also shares what it took to go from a person who was trained never to talk to the press to someone doing live CNN, the roadless rule and why she thinks rescinding it is a bad idea, her crown jewel podcast guest Ken Burns, and two pants-shitting stories from her hitchhiking days that she's been dreading telling us since she booked this. We wrap the show with hikers who discovered human remains in Vermont, the celebrity names we can never remember, how I butchered the boy who cried wolf, the triple crown of the worst gifts to give your kids, and an ALL TIME listener email and poop story. Why this week's Republican primaries may be a win for Trump - but ultimately may portend bad news for them in the general election. Alabama is in play, folks - what numbers are Joe and Alex excited to see? Plus: Was the DNC autopsy leak intentional? What's Joe's take on what went wrong in 2024? And why is Trump's $1.8 billion "slush fund" blowing up the Republican Party right now - and why Joe thinks this isn't over, no matter what Trump's trying to do at the federal level.
