The seventh of the seven Penitential Psalms is Psalm 143 which has been attributed to King David. Although relatively speaking, David is the innocent party in his conflicts with Saul, Absalom, and Adonijah, he recognizes that his own sins make him unworthy of claiming any blessings from the Lord. Like a parched land, there is a dire need sapping the life of the penitent. God provides sustenance for the thirsty penitent in the hope of the LORD’S promised deliverance.

Jesus’ institution of the Lord’s Supper fulfills a massive tradition that’s more than just the Passover
On the night He was betrayed, knowing full well the betrayal and abandonment He would experience at the hand of His disciples, Jesus gave His disciples (and us) a meal of pure Gospel…His body and blood.
The new covenant in Jesus’ blood brings our fellowship full circle, including all God’s people and all God’s promises of all time. That’s a full circle!
Our midweek Lenten series has explored what took place In Jesus' life on the three days between Palm Sunday and Maundy Thursday. Tonight we examine the more familiar events of Thursday evening during Holy Week. Jesus and His disciples gather for the Passover supper. The celebration joy of the Meal was turned to sadness as Jesus revealed that He would be betrayed by one of His own. Jesus inserted words of His death into Passover meal that confused His disciples as to what the following hours would hold for Jesus and for them. Yet those words turn our sadness into joy as we face what lies ahead of us.
