Greetings, Summit Leaders. Be encouraged, my friends. Your commitment to transformation positions you for greatness as a leader. Your capacity to make an impact is enlarging. I am encouraged by Summit Leaders who commit. Several groups signed a contract with themselves to pursue this goal. "Great leaders do not set out to be a leader. They set out to make a difference. It's never about the role - always about the goal." Napoleon Bonaparte image Leaders are stewards of transformation. They strengthen, encourage, and comfort with hope those they influence and lead. They are willing to endure the hardship of testing because they see the rewards awaiting them in the end. They have more to offer those they lead. Great leaders do not despise the day of small beginnings. They desire to help others. It can be one person or a family, client, team, or enterprise. These leaders attract people to their team and company. They are authentic. Here are four observations in the life of a leader transformed from within. One: They are Servant-leaders who cast a short and long term vision, including human values. "Everyone has the power for greatness, not for fame but greatness, because greatness is determined by service." ― Martin Luther King Jr. Two: They are coaches who engage, motivate, inspire, and teach principles for victory. "Peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best of which you are capable." John Wooden, UCLA Basketball Coach Three: They empower others by helping them awaken to a higher purpose through listening, communicating, aligning personal vision, and attributes with those of the team and enterprise. "There is no passion for being found playing small in settling for a life that is less than you are capable of living." Nelson Mandela "It is better to lead from behind and to put others in front, especially when you celebrate victory when nice things occur. You take the front line when there is danger. Then people will appreciate your leadership." Four: They are warriors against any thinking that distracts, neutralizes, or weakens resolve to obtain the envisioned victory. A leader transformed is an ultimate role model. They are transparent, empathetic, challenging, and encouraging by their consistent responses to life and challenging others to reach Excellence. One Summit Leader shares one of their favorite quotes during a cohort discussion on leader development and growth. "We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act, but a habit" - Aristotle. "Success is not final; failure is not fatal; it is the courage to continue that counts." Winston Churchill The summit leadership level is a blend of extreme personal humility with an intense personal will and fierce resolve to do whatever is needed to make a company great. In the book Good to Great, Jim Collins calls them "Level 5" leaders. A leader transformed perspective is one of belief in leading and engaging others. They intentionally think about how they can motivate and inspire others. They believe the best for those they lead. Their thinking is dominated by whatever things are trustworthy, noble, right, lovely, pure, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy. They continually think on this level and empower others to do the same. The rewards and benefits multiply to your account as a leader. The result is release and liberty from the old and the joy of experiencing the new you. Let's make it our goal and vision to no longer conform to old patterns of thinking and leading, but transformed by renewing our minds for the leadership required in the 21st Century. The breakthrough will affect all those you meet on your journey. You can help your team, company, clients, and others along the way. "Action without vision is only passing the time, vision without action is merely daydreaming, but vision with action can change the world." Nelson Mandela. Victory!

Funding is the focus of From Idea to Done this week. Josh and Erick discuss the ins and outs of gathering the funding to create your startup idea and making sure you're ready to make that jump.J/E: Hey Everyone, I'm Josh and I'm ErickE: This week’s idea is how do I fund my startup? Josh you have been in this business for a long time. I am relatively new to the startup space. Can we talk about the main hurdle in the development of any idea. Josh what is the biggest hurdle to get over when starting your startup?J: Well I don’t think funding is the biggest hurdle when starting. I think a lot of people immediately go to money, and the need. But I’ve seen too many people burn through money because they didn’t have things in the right order.E: You didn’t say funding... The name of this episode is how to find funding. What number is that on the hurdle list then?J: I would say #4 if i had to arbitrarily create a list of things in my head. Family Feud style, what is the number one…. Are you solving somone’s problem. E: We’ll get to the other ones in different episodes I guess. So number for on your list. Funding. If you are flush with cash you probably don’t need to listen to this episode. If you aren’t Josh do you have any advice to someone listening looking for help with funding their startup?J: Here is a secret for the great state of ND. Ok ND residents listening? There is a great program called InnovateND. Do you have a business that can bring revenue from outside the state? The state is able to provide you $40k in capital to do so. Learn more at innovatend.comE: Or just chat with your friend Erick who is in charge of sales at Codelation. We definitely broadcast this to the internet. What are some pieces of advice for those who aren’t fellow residents of the glorious state of North Dakota?J; Absolutely, I’m a big fan of customer funding. It solves a number of issues. One - you have an idea that your target market is wanting. Two - They are willing to give you money to build the thing. Three - ??? Profit? No seriously if you are building something that would cost $1500/yr could you go find 10 customers that would give you $5k for lifetime access to the software?E: If you can’t find any customers, is your product really even worth building? J: Nope, finding someone to give you money out of their pocket will be one of the most difficult tasks you’ll accomplish as a startup.E: Again you are much more versed in this because it has been your entire professional career, and you own a business centered around helping people turn their big ideas into businesses. Any final thoughts that we didn’t go over. J: Don’t make assumptions about what people are going to want and then put your expenses on a credit card. Keep your day job that pays the bills and hustle to get your product to market. Future you will thank you for this. Trust me…. E: Oh man, now we’re getting into time travel! We get to talk about big ideas a lot. Most of them I can’t talk about because of wonderful lawyers and non disclosure agreements. My last piece of advice is if you are listening to this and have a big idea reach out. Exploring the possibilities of big ideas is the best part of my job. J: Head over to our blog for a more in depth article on how to fund your startup. Thank you for listening to this episode.
