In this week's episode, it's just me — Charles Max Wood — and I'm joined by the incredibly sharp and open-source-loving Aral Roca, direct from Barcelona! Aral's the creator of Brisa, a new full-stack web framework that flips the script on how we build modern web apps. If you thought the "another day, another framework" meme was played out... well, Brisa might just change your mind.Key Takeaways:-Brisa's Big Idea: It's designed to let you build web apps with minimal or zero JavaScript on the client side. Think HTML streaming, server actions, and components that render server-side first, but can gradually hydrate on the client.-Server-first FTW: Aral walks us through how Brisa handles server actions — even capturing click and scroll events on the server — using ideas inspired by HTMX, LiveView, and server components from frameworks like Next.js.-Tiny and Mighty: The whole framework is incredibly lightweight. Web components come in at just ~3 KB, and the built-in i18n system is under 1 KB!-From Idea to Reality: Aral started Brisa to scratch his own itch — building side projects and blogs without bloated front-end code. But now, others are using it too (yes, even in production!), including one travel agency that's gone all-in.-Multi-platform Future: Brisa has adapters in the works for Vercel, Node, and Deno — plus integration with Tauri for building native Android, iOS, and desktop apps from the same codebase.-What's Coming: Roadmap goals include improved hot reloads, more adapters, transitions, lazy-loaded components, and a better playground for developers to tinker with.Oh, and yes — Aral does parkour. For real. This episode is packed with deep technical insight and exciting potential for a new way to build web apps — especially for devs who love fast performance, server-rendering, and clean architecture.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/javascript-jabber--6102064/support.

It's all inside, without the gatekeeping and without the overwhelm. Use the code FOUNDHER at checkout and join us inside for just over $1 a day. Boxed wine had a reputation problem until Lauren De Niro Pipher turned it into a sustainable, design-forward product that now moves across both direct-to-consumer and wholesale channels.Juliet Wine was born from a simple question: why doesn't high-quality boxed wine exist? Lauren and her co-founder, Allison Luvera, saw an opportunity and built a premium product that's as practical as it is planet-friendly, without any prior experience in the wine industry. In this episode, Lauren shares how they took the idea from concept to shelf, starting with a custom crush model, distinctive cylindrical packaging, and a brand that challenges the stigma around boxed wine. They also talk about the power of community, how their networks shaped their businesses, served as focus groups, and helped them make crucial early hires. Lauren opens up about the risks they took, from firing an expensive agency to bootstrapping the initial phase of the company before raising over $6 million in funding. With a go-to-market strategy that launched both direct-to-consumer and wholesale at the same time, Juliet Wine was built to scale. Instead of traditional influencer marketing, they focused on gifting and letting the product speak for itself, building authentic relationships that continue to drive word-of-mouth growth. This episode of Dear FoundHer… shows us what it takes to build something new in a crowded category, and how a smart, scrappy approach can cut through the noise.Episode Breakdown:00:00 Why Community Matters for Founders06:00 Lauren's Career Journey Before Juliet Wine07:06 The Spark Behind a Sustainable Wine Brand08:47 From Idea to Product: Early Decisions and Setbacks13:04 Redesigning Boxed Wine with Packaging Innovation15:02 Bootstrapping and Raising Over $6 Million20:10 Hiring Independent Talent Over Big Agencies25:32 Customer Feedback as a Growth Engine31:02 Go-to-Market Strategy: Direct to Consumer and Wholesale38:48 Influencer Marketing Without Paying for Posts43:46 What's Next for Juliet WineConnect with Lauren De Niro Pipher:http://www.instagram.com/iamldphttp://www.drinkjuliet.com/Get on the Marketing Made Simple Waitlist: https://lindsaypinchuk.myflodesk.com/waitlistDear FoundHer Forum: https://www.dearfoundher.com/dear-foundher-forumDon't forget to follow Lindsay on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/lindsaypinchukFollow Dear FoundHer on Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/dearfoundherPodcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. Custom Apps in 45 Minutes? AI Makes It Possible with Kevin Ashcroft

You know me—I'm all about breaking things down and finding the best ways to get stuff done. But this time? We're going way beyond theory. In this episode, my good friend and collaborator, Kevin Ashcroft, jumped in and showed me how to actually build TWO apps—live. Step by step, no fluff, just straight-up action. Watching it happen blew my mind, and trust me, you're gonna want to see this for yourself. It's a total game-changer for anyone who's ever thought about creating their tools. You might know Kevin from previous episodes, but if this is your first time listening to Beyond 8 Figures, let me catch you up. Kevin, CEO of WP Support Specialists and author of Outsourcing for Success, is the kind of entrepreneur who takes ideas and runs with them fast. Using tools like Claude AI and Replit, he's built custom apps, like a meal and exercise tracker tailored to his specific health needs, in just 45 minutes. Yep, you read that right—45 minutes. And in this episode, he's showing us exactly how it's done. What You'll Learn in This Episode:How Kevin built a functional personal app to manage his health using AI tools in under an hour. The benefits and challenges of creating tailored solutions versus using off-the-shelf apps.Insights into Kevin's process for launching the "Content Refresh Manager" WordPress plugin. Why personal software is the next frontier for entrepreneurs. How AI can democratize app development, empowering non-technical founders.Key Takeaways:AI is Your Brainstorming Buddy: Watching Kevin work with AI tools felt like seeing someone brainstorm with the ultimate creative partner. Sure, there were a few frustrating moments, but the payoff? Totally worth it.Keep It Simple: Kevin's approach to app-building is a great reminder that you don't need flashy features to make a big impact. Sometimes, the cleanest, simplest solutions are the ones that truly deliver.Make It Work for You: One thing that stood out was how customizable Kevin's tools were. It's a great example of how entrepreneurs can align their productivity tools with their specific goals instead of settling for one-size-fits-all solutions. From Idea to Marketplace: Kevin didn't just stop at personal apps—he showed us how to take that same energy and use it to create a WordPress plugin that's already live and making waves.Building exactly what you need is more accessible and game-changing than ever. Watching Kevin create tailored apps in real time was a powerful reminder that innovation doesn't have to be expensive, flashy, or overly complex—it's about solving real problems with simple, practical tools that work for you.Why This Matters Running a business is hard enough without wasting time on tools that don't fit or waiting for someone else to solve your problems. I've been in those moments where nothing quite fits—whether it's a process that feels clunky or a tool that almost does the job but leaves you frustrated. What I love about what we dive into here is the idea that you don't have to wait around or settle anymore. You can actually build something that fits your needs, and it's not as complicated as it sounds. For me, it was a reminder that we don't have to play by the old rules. We can create what we need, when we need it. If you're trying to get over a bottleneck or just make your business run smoother, trust me, this episode is worth your time. It's one of those conversations that sticks with you and makes you rethink what's possible.Let's Work Together If you're ready to stop relying on cookie-cutter solutions and start building tools that work for your business, let's talk. Whether refining your strategy, streamlining your operations, or scaling smarter, I can help you create a roadmap that fits your goals—and makes the most of your time and resources.

Welcome to another episode of Category Visionaries — the show that explores GTM stories from tech's most innovative B2B founders. In today's episode, we're speaking with Bill Moore, CEO & Founder of XONA, an OT user access platform that has raised over $30 Million in funding. Here are the most interesting points from our conversation: The Origin of XONA: Bill shared that XONA began with the goal of simplifying secure remote access for OT environments. Initially focused on making VDI simpler for the DoD, the company expanded into a broader secure access platform used widely in commercial sectors. From Idea to Market: It took a year from concept to their first paying customer, achieved by working closely with beta customers and testing prototypes in real-world environments before having a fully developed product. A Market Pivot: Although originally targeting the DoD, Bill discovered a huge opportunity in commercial OT sectors, particularly in natural gas distribution, which led to XONA's focus on industrial controls and OT systems. The “Guerrilla” Marketing Strategy: Early on, Bill employed a scrappy, grassroots approach to marketing by attending industry events, shaking hands, and networking—long before they could afford a booth or formal marketing campaigns. Category Creation in OT: XONA is redefining identity and access management for OT, where users interact with machines and operational processes rather than data. This approach requires distinct solutions from traditional IT systems, creating a new market category. Global Expansion: XONA is now operating in over 35 countries through its partnership with GE, focusing on OT cybersecurity in sectors like power generation, manufacturing, and other critical infrastructure.   //   Sponsors: Front Lines — We help B2B tech companies launch, manage, and grow podcasts that drive demand, awareness, and thought leadership. www.FrontLines.io The Global Talent Co. — We help tech startups find, vet, hire, pay, and retain amazing marketing talent that costs 50-70% less than the US & Europe.  www.GlobalTalent.co

In this episode of the Moonshots Podcast, hosts Mike and Mark dive deep into Build by Tony Fadell, the legendary iPod inventor and iPhone co-creator. Fadell offers timeless advice on building successful products and companies and on shaping yourself into a leader capable of bringing great ideas to life. Throughout the episode, you'll hear Fadell discuss his key philosophies—how to turn an idea into a product, build yourself first, and solve problems worth solving. He reminds us that true success comes from not taking shortcuts, even when pressured by others. Whether you're an entrepreneur or someone aspiring to innovate, this episode is packed with essential insights for those looking to build something meaningful.Key Clips:Intro: Tony introduces Build and his concept of being a "mentor in a box." (4m11)Where to Begin: Tony explains the journey from an idea to a product. (1m20)Advice from Build: Tony shares his thoughts on building a successful company while embracing failure. (2m15)Build Your Business: Fadell urges entrepreneurs to focus on solving real problems before worrying about selling. (4m)Outro: Tony provides a profound lesson on avoiding shortcuts, even when pressured by investors. (4m30)Links:Episode Weblink: Moonshots Episode #219 – Tony Fadell: Unconventional Ways to Build a Successful BusinessBook Summary: Blinkist Summary of Build by Tony FadellYouTube Link: Tony Fadell Interview on Lex Fridman PodcastNext, I'll expand on the key concepts and insights from the episode!Key Concepts and Insights from Build by Tony Fadell:Mentor in a Box: In Build, Tony Fadell positions himself as a "mentor in a box," offering the accumulated wisdom of his career. He stresses that mentorship is vital for learning, but not everyone can access world-class mentors. He aims to give readers practical, actionable advice to guide their journey. This concept sets the tone for the book and the podcast episode, emphasizing the need for guidance and continuous learning, especially in the unpredictable world of innovation. From Idea to Product: Fadell underscores that every successful product starts with a simple idea, but turning that idea into reality requires relentless focus and execution. He explains that innovators must go beyond the "eureka moment" and develop the skills to prototype, test, and iterate. The journey is fraught with challenges; the process is as important as the original idea. Building a product involves not just creative thinking but disciplined action.Build Yourself First: One of Fadell's core messages is that the foundation for building great things begins with building yourself. Entrepreneurs and creators must first cultivate their skills, mindset, and resilience before expecting to build a successful company or product. By focusing on personal growth, people can become better leaders and problem-solvers, better equipped to guide teams and projects through the inevitable obstacles they will face.Solve Problems Worth Solving: Fadell emphasizes the importance of solving real problems, not just following trends. He tells Lex Fridman that successful businesses are built around an apparent, meaningful problem that needs to be solved. Entrepreneurs should be driven to make a tangible impact rather than just seeking financial success or fame. Identifying a problem worth solving should precede thoughts of monetization or scaling the business. No Shortcuts: In the outro, Tony Fadell delivers one of his most powerful lessons: not taking shortcuts, even when investors or market pressures demand quick results. Some entrepreneurs spend years sitting on an idea before taking it to market–not Leslie Danford. In less than 10 months, she launched her clean-label food and beverage brand, with products now being sold online and in stores across the Midwest. Leslie is the Founder and CEO of Vitaminis. Previously, she worked in beverages and consumer products at large corporations. She earned her MBA from Harvard University and her BA from the University of Chicago. In 2020, she combined her interest in nutrition with her formal business training to launch Vitaminis. From Idea to Product The idea for Vitaminis was born out of the pandemic when Leslie was looking for a nutritional supplement for her family that wasn't a pill or gummy. She moved quickly to develop her shelf-stable, beverage product alongside a food scientist. From there, she decided on a company name, started building the brand, and secured packaging and distribution–all while expecting her fourth child. Leslie says one of the best things she did early on was join a group of food founders to connect with others in the industry. That network was critical for finding the right food scientist and distributor for her product. Bridging E-commerce with Retail While Leslie originally conceived of Vitaminis as an e-commerce brand, she realized growing online wasn't scalable. Social media ads are expensive and consumers need to see the product multiple times before purchasing. So Vitaminis entered the retail market. Leslie found that being in big-name stores added credibility to the brand. Her current strategy is to use retail as a pipeline for e-commerce: people buy a single bottle of Vitaminis in stores (rather than the 12-pack that's available online) or taste it as a sample. Once they've bought the product and are on the company mailing list, they're converted into a subscription model. Enjoy this episode with CEO and Founder Leslie Danford… Quotes “I think that's one of the hardest parts of entrepreneurship, is you don't have the answers.” “It's hard as an entrepreneur, because sometimes those failures or things that don't work, it would be easy to be like, ‘Oh, the product just doesn't work.' When really that's just a signal that you can take and then adjust.” “This product was born from something I wanted and needed.” Links mentioned in this episode: Visit the Vitaminis website: https://vitaminisbrand.com  Connect with Leslie on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/leslie-danford/

You can turn on the news and see what's happening with our economy. Big box retailers are closing, small businesses are shutting their doors. Yet I'm here to tell you NOW is the right time to start a subscription box. Why?  The answer is simple.  People are buying. I see it every day in my own business. I saw it during my recent very successful launch. And I have the honor of working every day with subscription box owners who are launching and growing their subscription box businesses.  Adding a recurring revenue stream to your business adds a layer of stability, predictability, and security that most businesses don't have.  The subscription box industry reached $22.7 billion by the end of 2021 and is expected to more than triple that number by 2027! Inside those numbers, the most popular types of subscriptions were replenishment subscriptions (think dog food or shaving supplies) and curation subscriptions (like my Monogram Box™). In a recent Wall Street Journal article, I read that 25% of online shoppers have subscribed to one or more subscription services to receive products on a recurring basis. 25% of shoppers! The article cited niche markets as one of the biggest areas of opportunity and emphasized the importance of providing high-quality experiences to retain subscribers.  To recap, this article showed me:  The subscription box market is still growing - rapidly. It's time to get in!  ¼ of all online shippers have had a subscription - they understand this model.  It's all about convenience and the experience - it's not about the stuff.  The riches are in the niches. (I know you've heard me say that before!) So, why should you start a subscription right now?  You don't have to constantly sell.  If you have a physical shop and don't open, you don't make any income. You're able to create raving fans.  Your subscribers will be your biggest fans, buying almost anything you sell.  The product you are investing in is already sold.  Relieve the stress and pressure of buying products you might have to mark down later.  You get to create a box and experience you are passionate about.  Being passionate about your business helps you show up.  You get to love what you do and treat people to a carefully curated experience.  You get consistent revenue hitting your bank account.  It's not too late to get in the game. Not by a long shot. Have you listened to episode 158 yet? In it, Launch Your Box member Bev of Bless-ed Be Boutique talks about how she retired, got bored, then six months later started her subscription box, selling out her first launch. Or episode 147 where you'll meet Megan. She thought about starting a box for a long time. It wasn't until she bought my book, One Box at a Time, and read it cover to cover in just a couple of days that she took action. Megan launched her subscription box three weeks later - and sold out!  Your time is now. Stop waiting, stop wishing, and start building a business you can make an income from.  Have you been sitting on your subscription box idea for too long? Join me for this episode for 5 reasons to get it started right now.
