After The Checks Are Signed

In this episode Deb and DJ deliver our 2021 year-end wrap up. We discuss our favorite people of 2021, memorable events, show stats and guests and more! We even find a way to discuss local events and politics since our last episode.  We hope all of our listeners have have an amazing new year and that 2022 is your best year yet! In this episode Deb and DJ are back discussing the controversial property reassessment that had all of Wilton's real estate increase in value by 45%...or more! We explain how this translates into setting the tax rate for next year and the budgets associated with that money. Other news and developments are discussed including 'Wander Through Wilton' on November 5-7 and new bridges and dams. Thanks for listening!

In this episode Deb and DJ are joined by School Board Member and State Representative for District 4, Jim Kofalt! We discuss what its like to be a State Rep during COVID and the challenges the School Board has gone through during the pandemic. He also sheds some light on how School budgeting works, ESSER funds and what we can expect in the future.  Jim was a great guest and we sadly left out our usual 'favorite pen' question which Jim was prepared for - next time! Deb and DJ welcome Wilton Lyndeborough School District Superintendent Mr. Peter Weaver! He welcomed us to his office at LCS where we discussed what learning is, why he came to this district and, most importantly, PIZZA! This is a wide ranging discussion centered around kids and the responsibilities of educating and supporting them through all obstacles - even the pandemic. After a long break from a new episode Deb and DJ are back with our latest guest - Wilton's Town Moderator Bill Keefe!!!   We discuss the upcoming rescheduled town meeting on June 10th and the history around Wilton's town meetings. Bill has moderated for Wilton over the last 13 years and, on the heels of COVID, shares excellent stories and institutional town knowledge. Of course we find out what his favorite pen is! Deb and DJ discuss the changing season which ushers in Town Meeting and local elections. Town meeting is moved to June 10th but local elections are still March 9th at WLC from 8-7.
