Today we discuss the 10 Components of fitness and how can we assess all of the them.
A note from Dr. Libby Wilson I have such respect for people who accomplish amazing things in life. I love hearing stories of hard things people have accomplished AND hearing about what they learned about themselves along the way. Challenges shape us and mold us into who we are. Matt and CJ from CrossFit CRAVE in Celina, Ohio are two men that I have a lot of respect for. When I think of Matt and CJ I think of discipline and courage. They both live their lives as examples to others of what is possible. Matt and I are the same age and grew up in the same area, but I never knew him until a few years ago. He conducted a CrossFit gymnastics seminar that I attended. At the seminar, I immediately recognized his wife–we had gone to highschool together. Small world (and she hadn’t changed or aged a bit!). Well, anyways, the seminar was amazing and I loved the way Matt connected with all of the athletes. There were 2 things I remember about the seminar. One was he said, “stay in your own lane.” It is so easy to forget that and compare yourself to others. Comparison is the stealer of joy and contentment! I also remember him mentioning he did the “Murph” every week for a year. For those of you who don’t know, “Murph” is a hero workout done in crossfit typically on Memorial Day Weekend in memory of Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, 29, of Patchogue, N.Y., who was killed in Afghanistan June 28th, 2005. The workout is: 1 mile Run 100 Pull-ups 200 Push-ups 300 Squats 1 mile Run. Oh and I forgot to mention, it is with a 20 pound weight vest. I’ve done it a couple of times (scaled, I need to mention), but every week for a year? WOW. Impressive. Mutual suffering builds connection. That is one of the many things I love about CrossFit. I first met CJ at CrossFit CRAVE. Matt and CJ have a podcast and I was invited to be their guest as I was launching my business. CJ is only 23, but has the wisdom of someone much older. I was impressed with CJ’s knowledge, maturity and toughness. I heard a few months later about a GORUCK event that CJ had done and I needed to hear more. 24+ hours, 40+ miles, 50% completion rate. Cold, wet, hungry, tired. And he did it! WOW. Please don’t read this and think your accomplishments aren’t important. They are. And here’s the thing. There is nothing special about Matt, CJ, Alix or me. YOU can do anything you set your mind to. As author and motivational speaker Jim Rohn says, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishments.” Set a goal. Do the work. Achieve your dreams. Then set another one. Be on the road to who you want to be. Create the life you want, don’t just sit back and let life happen to you. I’ll end with a quote from Marcus Aurelius (one of my husband’s all time favorites). “It is not death that a man should fear, he should fear never beginning to live.” I’d love to hear your goal. Comment below. Also I’m currently booking patients for my December program. Are you ready to chat?
