“He walked into the glitchy wilderness with a GORUCK bag, tritium watch, and nothing to lose but his cached identity.”In this genre-warping, filter-stripping conversation, Chris Abraham goes full analog soul in a digital world — decoding identity, memory, and authenticity in an age of surveillance, simulation, and semantic rot. From the ghostly AI of William Gibson's Agency to the aching sincerity of Love on the Spectrum, this episode is a postmodern pilgrimage for truth in a world where being “based” now outranks being “brilliant.”Chris explores what it means to live with aphantasia and SDAM, navigates the ethics of erasing your digital trail, and unpacks how meritocracy, identity politics, and liberalism lost the plot. With references flying from Foucault to A Fish Called Wanda, it's part sermon, part shitpost, part Socratic rave.Somewhere in the ruins of mass discourse, we meet the Low-Res Messiah: flawed, glitchy, possibly cringe, but still walking forward — one click, one stretch, one deletion at a time.Memory as Myth: Living with SDAM and aphantasia in a society built on nostalgia and vision boards.AI and Faith: When “Eunice” the AI mirrors both divine omniscience and autistic pattern recognition.Based Over Brilliant: The return of emotional honesty and lived authenticity as new currency.Virtue & Vice in Identity Politics: Why calling everyone a Nazi isn't just wrong — it's lazy. The Anchorite Reboot: Chris's call for digital minimalism, walking meditations, and gym-floor stretching rituals.“Mind palaces are a scam. Memory is a JPEG — and I'm running on 256 colors.”“There's no deer in the woods that survives being loud and proud.”“The boil does not make the plague — Trump is the symptom, not the cause.”“Being invisible doesn't mean you're hiding. Sometimes, it just means you're free.”Subscribe to The Chris Abraham Show for more episodes that walk the edge of techno-spiritual collapse.Leave a review if something in this episode reprogrammed your brain or cracked your shell.Share it with someone trying to be based, not brilliant.Tag it: #LowResMessiah | #ChrisAbrahamShow | #BasedIsNotABugQ: What's a “Low-Res Messiah”?A: A symbol for imperfect truth-seekers in a high-def world of lies. It's about being genuine in a world that rewards optics and simulation.Q: Did Chris really delete all his tweets and posts?A: Yes. Not out of shame — out of a desire to stop being a museum exhibit for people who don't read past the captions.Q: Why so much talk about IQ, autism, and memory?A: Because intelligence isn't just horsepower — it's how your RAM, hard drive, and operating system interact. And Chris runs on a forked distro of neurodivergence.Q: Is this podcast left-wing or right-wing?A: Yes.Q: Is Chris okay?A: Yeah. Just stretched out and swinging kettlebells again.Aphantasia: The inability to visualize images in one's mind. No mind's eye.SDAM (Severely Deficient Autobiographical Memory): A rare condition where people can't vividly recall personal memories.Eunice: A hyper-capable AI assistant in Agency by William Gibson.Mind Palace: A mental visualization technique used to store and retrieve information — not available to the Low-Res Messiah.Based: Slang for being unapologetically true to yourself, often contra “woke” orthodoxy.Virtue Signaling: Expressing moral positions to boost social standing, rather than out of conviction.Panopticon: A prison design and metaphor by Foucault where surveillance becomes internalized.Drill Rap: A gritty, aggressive rap subgenre, often hyper-local and controversial.Sky Daddy: Internet slang for God, often used pejoratively in atheist or anti-religious contexts.Anchorite: A religious recluse who retreats into solitude for spiritual reasons — or to dodge the algorithm.

Brandon Young and Blayne Smith are the authors of “Perseverance > Endurance: Lead with Resilience. Grow Through Adversity. Win Together,” and they bring a wealth of leadership experience shaped by their military backgrounds. Brandon, a former U.S. Army Ranger with four combat deployments in Afghanistan, and Blayne, a former Army Special Forces officer, advisory board member of GORUCK, and the first executive director of Team Red, White & Blue, co-founded Applied Leadership Partners in 2020 during the pandemic.  In this episode, they share hard-earned insights on fostering perseverance, embracing uncertainty, and guiding teams through adversity. They discuss how endurance is about surviving challenges, while perseverance is about thriving and growing through adversity.  They cover key leadership principles, including self-awareness, adaptability, and the importance of long-term thinking. They also explore how leaders can create sustainable work environments that encourage perseverance without leading to burnout. Listen in to learn how to differentiate between endurance and perseverance, build adaptability, and lead through uncertainty. This is a powerful conversation.   Key Takeaways [05:36] Brandon explains that endurance is about pushing through a defined hardship, while perseverance is essential for navigating long-term uncertainty and transformation. He shares how COVID-19 forced their business to pivot just three days after launching, leading them to develop a framework for perseverance. [09:43] Blayne describes endurance as a trap for high-performers, explaining that leaders must recognize their limits and ask for help when needed. He uses a baseball metaphor, comparing self-awareness to feeling the warning track before hitting the wall. [12:20] Jim suggests that endurance is like management—rationing resources to sustain effort—whereas perseverance is about leadership, making tough calls in uncertainty. Brandon agrees, adding that perseverance requires embracing the unknown and making the best possible choice at each step. [18:27] Brandon explains that no plan survives first contact. Leaders must plan, but they must also recognize that external factors will always play a role. Planning is about preparation, not prediction. He stresses that adaptability is crucial, as rigid plans often fail in dynamic situations. [22:08] Blayne emphasizes the importance of creating a culture where people feel safe making decisions. Leaders must set clear intent and boundaries while allowing flexibility. He warns that if leaders punish employees for making mistakes in earnest, they kill initiative across the team. [24:03] Brandon explains that pride is the enemy of growth. Leaders must be willing to acknowledge their blind spots and learn from failure. Blayne adds that having a "white belt mentality"—constantly seeking to learn—helps leaders grow and gain credibility with their teams. [29:39] Brandon shares that the hunger for excellence exists in all workplaces. Leaders must cast a clear vision, help employees see themselves in that vision, and create an environment where they can opt in or out. He emphasizes the importance of accountability and allowing people to step up when needed. [35:41] Blayne recalls a time when he realized that leaders need to communicate proactively. He assumed his team knew where his head was at, but they didn't. This experience taught him the importance of over-communicating and being transparent with his team. [39:10] Blayne suggests that leaders must model a sustainable pace. Transparency about work-life balance gives employees permission to do the same. Brandon adds that leaders should extend the time horizon—understanding that success comes in peaks and valleys and that employees need time to recharge to perform well over time. [44:04] And remember, “Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other.” - Walter Elliot   Quotable Quotes "When you're enduring, you're holding on. When you're persevering, you're moving forward." "Self-awareness is knowing when you're on the warning track before you hit the wall."  "The enemy gets a vote. No plan survives first contact, and that's why adaptability is key."  "Pride is the enemy of growth. Perseverance payoff is growth."  "If you can't take 60 minutes to step away, you're setting yourself up for failure."  "It's not about less intensity, it's not about less excellence, it's about perspective. And if you can provide that for your people and model it, then you can get people to work really hard, really long and do really hard stuff knowing that it's okay that there's not an end. Because we can do this in a sustainable way."  "Plans are necessary, but adaptability determines success."    This is the book mentioned in this episode   Resources Mentioned The Leadership Podcast | Sponsored by | Rafti Advisors. In 2008, while Jason was in Special Forces and Emily his wife was in the CIA, they started GORUCK out of her house in war-torn West Africa. The goal was pretty simple: build a rucksack with life or death quality standards that would thrive in Baghdad and NYC, not to mention Côte d'Ivoire — and show people of all walks of life how to operate smartly and safely in some of the harshest environments in the world (using said rucksack). How to travel, how to train, how to get the most out of a life where adventure calls and tomorrow is never promised. They didn't have a business plan and weren't willing to compromise on basically anything, so this little project called GORUCK cost them almost everything they had.But sometimes you have to put all your chips on the table and say come what may. What Jason and Emily found (with no time to spare) was a like-minded community of people who proudly proclaim that "the easy life is not for us."When you've survived the things that Jason & Emily have, and your inspiration in life becomes normal people doing extraordinary things, what you realize is that you don't owe less — you owe more.  Please enjoy this wide-ranging and personal conversation with Jason and Jon!

On today's episode of TFB's Behind the Gun Podcast, we've brought on a man who is not only an avid firearms competitor, but someone who has a passion for tackling difficult tasks no matter what. I had the pleasure of meeting Derek "Hooahberry" at Finnish Brutality 2023 and as is pretty typical at competitions like Finnish Brutality, we became instant friends. Today Derek will share with us not only his experiences at Finnish Brutality and how he got into the competition as a regular joe, as well as his passion for another type of difficult self-imposed task - GORUCK. GORUCK, founded in 2008 by former Green Beret Jason McCarthy, is a lifestyle brand that epitomizes the fusion of military-grade durability and civilian functionality. Drawing inspiration from Jason's Special Forces experiences and his wife Emily's CIA background, the brand has successfully carved a niche in creating rugged, versatile gear, most notably the GR1 backpack. GORUCK's ethos extends beyond product design to fostering a resilient community through the GORUCK Challenge—endurance events led by Special Forces veterans that emphasize teamwork, leadership, and endurance. These events reflect the brand's core values of resilience, community, and excellence, engaging participants from various backgrounds in physically and mentally demanding tasks. Under Jason and Emily's stewardship, GORUCK has grown into more than just a gear company; it's a platform that promotes personal growth, physical fitness, and a deep sense of camaraderie among its loyal following, making it a testament to their commitment to building a brand that transcends conventional boundaries and encourages individuals to push their limits. So please sit back, relax and enjoy as Derek recounts his time at Finnish Brutality and his ongoing goal to challenge himself and others through the GORUCK program. Great leaders exist in every industry. When we think about great leaders we often remember the things they did. But what's more important is the impact they had on individuals, teams, organizations and society. For the second episode of our 2023 NYC Veterans Day Parade Series, Fran Racioppi and Psychotherapist Drew Newkirk welcomed two Green Berets from very different wars creating impact across generations. CSM Richard Rice served as a Green Beret in MACV-SOG in Vietnam and later became one of the founding members of Delta Force. Jason McCarthy served in 10th Special Forces during the Iraq war and went on to found GORUCK. Today they're swapping roles as mentor and mentee as they apply their lessons from Special Forces to entrepreneurism, fitness, mental health and building community. We show you how to build organizations on character, why we must embrace challenge, how to live a life of bias for action, and how society is shaped by America's Veterans after their military service. Drew also explores the difficulty elite performers have as they age and become friendless men; something scary to many of us. America became the greatest country in the history of the world because of a national call to service since the Boston Massacre. Today, the world is more dangerous than ever. It's time we bring America's people back together, rebuild our community and keep America atop the world order. Learn more on The Jedburgh Podcast Website. Last year, she participated in her first GORUCK selection, and this year, she finished the GORUCK Selection as the only participant left standing. Allison's insight, wisdom, and mindset got her to where she is today, and she brings along a message of hope and tranquility that is incredibly inspiring. Key Takeaways If You Want to do Hard Things, You Should: Remember Allison's advice to chill out and enjoy the moment Find a community that supports your ambitions Stay calm and believe in your ability to do whatever you set your mind to Doing the Hard Stuff with Allison Grubbs Allison Grubbs is an endurance athlete and adventurer who is only the second woman ever to complete GORUCK Selection. Her journey from a self-proclaimed ‘average' swimmer as a child to where she is today is a testament to her incredibly strong mindset and determination. Cool, Calm, and Collected Allison spent her childhood and teenage years swimming but never considered herself an athlete. Even today, she does not identify with the elite athlete status that her achievements have brought. Through a calm, cool, and collected mindset, Allison has shown that she knows how she operates and runs towards that any chance she gets. Her goals are to finish, keep moving, and be calm in stressful situations. She hopes to be a role model for other ‘badass babes' in her community. Chill Out and Enjoy the Moment Allison and I have a lot of parallels in our stories. But what I find so remarkable about Allison is how she stays calm under pressure, knows herself, and goes for what she wants.  If you have a big dream or a big goal, Allison is proof that it is totally possible to achieve anything you put your mind to. Her personal process and fitness journey inspire anyone who knows it, which is why I brought her to the podcast today so that you, as the listener, can get to know her strength firsthand. How does your mindset impact your goals? Share your thoughts with me in the comments on the episode page. Honestly, I have no idea. I was just really okay at that moment with being done and letting her go.” (50:43) “Part of this year that was so stressful was knowing that I could do it, but always feeling like nothing was good enough.” (54:04) “There is so much community support. Rucking is having a moment right now, but it is nothing new, per se. Humans have been carrying loads for distance since the beginning of time. While rucking is not a replacement for your strength training, it has a multitude of benefits to your cardiovascular strength, blood sugar, bone health, and so much more. Key Takeaways If You Are Interested in Including Rucking in Your Fitness Plan, You Should: Start slow and build up your endurance over time while taking time for recovery Use rucking as a way to improve your cardiovascular and strength training Look into rucking group challenges if you are interested The Many Benefits of Rucking Ever since I discovered rucking, I have included it as part of my fitness routine. The unique benefits of rucking, particularly for women over 40, have had a huge supportive impact on my training regime. Rucking is an incredibly effective form of exercise that has a wide range of benefits that can impact not only your fitness capacity but also your social and competitive capacity as well. Carrying heavy things is a fundamental movement pattern that is especially important for women over 40. The benefits to your bones, blood sugar, insulin sensitivity, stress, and more are some reasons why I love rucking. Answering All of Your Rucking Questions While rucking can be simply defined as carrying loads for a distance, there are a lot of questions that come up when starting any new fitness or movement practice. How much weight, what shoes you should wear, what equipment you need, what counts as rucking, and how to get started rucking are only a few of the questions I answer for you on today's podcast.  If you are curious about rucking, already have a walking practice, or just want to try something new, rucking may be the answer you have been looking for. What do you love about rucking? What are you the most curious about? Share your rucking thoughts and experiences with me in the comments on the episode page. How to Leverage Essentialism for Fitness

If you are a woman over 40 trying to build your fitness and muscle, you know how important it is to get into the gym on a regular basis. But if you struggle to find the consistency or motivation to exercise, you are definitely not alone. I find consistency as one of the most common things my clients struggle with, but it doesn't have to be that way. Key Takeaways If You Are Curious About Essentialism, Try:  Taking time to decide what is truly important for you Saying no to the things that you do not want to do Doing fewer things but doing them better Adding Instead of Taking Away A lot of things in the health world are focused on removing or distancing yourself from a thing. Exercise is certainly not that way, and it requires you to lean in when it comes to changing your health habits. Although exercise takes time, energy, and space in your daily calendar, adding it to your life consistently is going to help you achieve the results you are looking for. All 24 Hours Are Not the Same While there are 24 hours in a day, each of us has our own schedule, timeline, and ability to prioritize exercise. Finding the time, space, and motivation to be consistent isn't necessarily easy, but by asking yourself the right questions, you can identify what's important, what you may want to say no to, and, ultimately, how to live more aligned with your values. The #1 most underrated concept when it comes to helping you find more time, which can, in turn, help you increase your consistency with training, is essentialism. There is a counterintuitive reason why finding consistency with your workouts is so hard, especially as a woman over 40. Have you ever approached your fitness with an essentialism mindset? Share your thoughts with me in the comments on the episode page. In This Episode Behind-the-scenes update of what to expect in the coming months on my training platform (2:47) Why exercise does not follow the standard ideal of health change (7:43) Understanding essentialism and why it may help you assess your life (9:50) Questions you can ask yourself as a thought exercise to guide your actions (13:04) How to implement the principles of essentialism into your own life (15:25) Quotes “It has been extremely gratifying to really bring those of you over 40 who are looking to improve your strength, muscle, and fitness, and feel strong. To really bring you a comprehensive program that is going to tick the boxes that we need as women over 40.” (3:47) “If you are feeling challenged with consistency, I promise you you are not alone in feeling what you are feeling.” (4:52) “Exercise cannot be accomplished through subtraction, elimination, or avoidance.” (8:33) “Exercise is a form of self-care. We are taking care of our health.” (15:12) “Ultimately, we all don't have the same time in our day. But by implementing the principles of essentialism, hopefully, you can carve out just a little bit more for yourself.” (17:47) Featured on the Show Strong With Steph Info Page Apply for Strength Nutrition Unlocked Here Essentialism by Greg Mckeown Full Show Notes Get 20% off Legion Supplements with code STEPH (20% off your first order, double points on follow-up orders Get 10% off GORUCK with code FUELYOURSTRENGTH Follow Steph on Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTube | Pinterest I'd really love it if you would take 1 min and leave us a rating and review on iTunes!
