Or 30 feet if you ask Shawna.  LaLa sounds off on facts over feelings when it comes to Botox, viral hot takes, and why emotion should not replace evidence.  Plus, powerful interviews with Cindy Yates, CEO of PiperBlue Organics, on clean beauty and confidence, and Dr. Kara Wada, board certified allergist, immunologist, and functional medicine physician, breaking down inflammation, immune health, and advocating for yourself in a broken system.

Autism, Functional Medicine, and Personalized Interventions: A Conversation with Theresa Lyons, PhD, a Yale-trained scientist and medical strategist who became an autism expert after her daughter's diagnosis and now runs AWEtism.net. Lyons describes dissatisfaction with conventional guidance that offers limited drugs for irritability and primarily ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis), which is insurance-covered, often recommended at 40 hours/week, uses extrinsic rewards, and may help some skill-learning but has controversies and limitations for social development; she contrasts newer approaches such as RDI (Relationship Development Intervention) and PRT (Pivotal Response), which aim to build intrinsic motivation but are typically not covered by insurance. The discussion covers autism heterogeneity, changes in diagnostic categories (e.g., Asperger's folded into autism), and research including a Boston Children's Hospital study reporting 37% of children in a cohort lost their autism diagnosis over time (diagnosis based on observation). Lyons addresses debates about rising autism prevalence, noting multiple potential contributors and rejecting single-cause explanations, while citing risk-factor examples such as family autoimmune history and air pollution exposure. She outlines a functional medicine “why” approach using constipation as an example (root causes vs. symptomatic treatment), and emphasizes basic, low-risk steps such as evaluating diet, inflammation, hydration/electrolytes, and blood work for nutrients. Specific topics include gluten-free approaches (mechanisms involving gut permeability, immune burden, and CNS effects), dairy/inflammation, vitamin D deficiency and monitoring, melatonin as a well-studied short-term aid in autism (considered safe for a couple of years in studies) while still seeking underlying causes, and omega-3 fatty acids for focus and inflammation. Lyons explains leucovorin (folinic acid, prescription vitamin B9) as a targeted approach for children with folate receptor antibodies (reported in ~70% of autistic children), discusses the value and cost (~$300) of specialized testing from one U.S. lab, and notes reports of major speech and behavior improvements in responders, with dosing nuances. The episode also reviews evidence and cautions around the microbiome, including fecal microbiota transplant (FDA-approved for C. difficile; discussed as having an ~80% response rate in autism-related studies when gut issues are a key driver, but with major donor/compatibility considerations) and probiotics (some small trials and high costs). Other themes include “clean eating,” organic foods and toxin-load considerations tied to genetic detoxification vulnerabilities, discussion of acetaminophen/Tylenol in pregnancy in the context of glutathione pathways and personalized risk, and using genetics to guide interventions. Lyons warns that analysis of top autism TikTok videos found ~70% were inaccurate or overdramatized, recommending social media only for ideas, not decision-making. She also highlights parent stress, citing emerging research on increased PTSD risk among autism parents, and emphasizes support and community. Lyons advises parents to understand their child's specific health drivers and match them to appropriately specialized clinicians, noting her curated doctor listings in The Lyons Report.

The Hidden Causes of Autoimmune Disease (Dr. Arland Hill) — How to Reverse It: RWP6.  Dr. Arland Hill is a Functional Medicine Clinician and Author of "Platform Food, Function, Freedom.com."  Dr. Hill has an in depth conversation with Dr. Ben Weitz about Autoimmune Diseases. Dr. Arland Hill explains the primary reasons why there has been an increase in the rate of autoimmune diseases in the United States. The mass food production has significantly altered what is now classified as food as compared to that prior to the 1940's. The combination of drastic changes in our diet and increased toxin exposure in a post-industrialized society has contributed to the rise in autoimmune disease. An important variant is the effect of stress.  Stress breaks down the body's systems, which can create dysregulation in the immune system. This opens the door for leaky gut syndrome and can manifest in autoimmune issues. Environmental and food toxins coupled with increased stress levels can be the perfect breeding ground for autoimmune diseases to develop. However it is important to note that each of these individual factors can cause autoimmune disease to manifest on their own. Western medical doctors treat diseases by providing medications that suppress the immune system such as corticosteroids, chemotherapy agents and newer injectables.  TNF alpha blocking agents like Humira and Remicade block the immune system, which is needed to maintain homeostasis, fight off and prevent the disease processes from beginning.  These drugs have very serious side effects that include depressing the immune system and worsening the effects of infections and cancer. The Functional Medicine approach treats autoimmune diseases by looking at the underlying factors that lead to the immune system being deregulated. These factors can include disease processes such as leaky gut, food sensitivities, toxins, mold, heavy metals, nutritional deficiencies, infections, etc.  Functional Medicine looks at the best strategies for correcting this by identifying the cause and catalyst of those agents. Once you identify the cause and remove the factors that negatively affect the G.I. and immune system, a strategy to intervene can be formed. A nutritional strategy to repair and restore the gut is recommended. By reestablishing the mucosa tolerance and re-balancing the bacterial landscape, gut health is rebuilt and the immune system can function and respond unimpaired. The podcast will cover these topics in more depth and detail. You will learn more about how toxins behave. For example, how BPA and heavy metals found in plastics insert itself in the metabolic pathway and disrupt it by misplacing nutrients. You will also learn how to test for autoimmune disease and learn the role infections play in increasing our risk. More importantly, you will learn how to improve your health and nutritional deficiencies.   Dr. Arland Hill can be reached at Dr.ArlandHill.com   Dr. Ben Weitz is also available for nutrition consultation by calling his office at 310-395-3111.

Want deeper support? Join Circle at holplus.co/circle and use code PODCAST for a one-month trial. What if the real issue in women's health isn't that women are “doing it wrong,” but that the entire wellness system was built on research, protocols, and performance standards designed for male bodies? In this solo episode, Dr. Taz breaks down why bro science and modern biohacking culture often backfire for women, and how pushing harder, optimizing more, and chasing protocols can quietly drive hormone chaos, burnout, inflammation, and nervous system dysregulation. She explains why so many women are told their labs are “normal” while their bodies are clearly signaling that something is off, and how medical models that isolate symptoms fail to capture how women's systems actually work. This episode is rooted in the same clinical patterns that led Dr. Taz to writeThe Hormone Shift. After years of watching women come into her practice exhausted, inflamed, and dismissed by conventional care, she began documenting the repeating cycles she saw across life stages, from teens to perimenopause to post-menopause. You'll learn why women were historically excluded from research, how that gap still shapes today's treatment models, and why intensity, calorie restriction, and rigid optimization strategies may worsen hormonal imbalance, metabolic stress, and emotional exhaustion in female bodies. This episode reframes women's health as a whole-body system, not a protocol stack, and explores why safety, rhythm, recovery, and regulation matter more than force. This conversation reframes healing as a process of supporting interconnected systems, not overriding them. Hormones, gut health, immune function, nervous system regulation, emotional safety, stress load, and life stage are not separate variables. When these systems fall out of sync, symptoms multiply. When they are supported together, the body can restore balance, energy, and resilience.Dr. Taz shares: • Why bro science and biohacking trends often backfire for women • How “normal labs” can still mean your body is not functioning optimally • Why women's bodies were historically excluded from research and how that impacts care today • How pushing harder, restricting calories, and overtraining disrupt hormones and metabolism • Why women's nervous systems require safety, rhythm, and recovery to heal • How stress physiology, trauma patterns, and life stage shape women's health outcomes • Why hormones don't act in isolation, but communicate with the gut, immune system, and brain • Where modern tools like HRT, GLP-1s, peptides, and protocols fit and where they fall short • How to build a sustainable, personalized approach to women's health that works with the body, not against itWhether you're feeling dismissed by your labs, burned out from trying every new wellness trend, or frustrated by protocols that seem to work for others but not for you, this episode offers a grounded, integrative framework for understanding what women's bodies actually need.Women don't heal through force. Some medical professionals describe it as unnecessary, over-interpreted, or a waste of money. So why the disagreement? In this episode, I step back from the noise and explore what's actually being argued. What assumptions sit underneath functional hormone testing? What assumptions sit underneath conventional medicine? And why does this debate feel so emotionally charged?Rather than taking sides, we look at the psychological and structural differences between these two paradigms — and what happens when menopausal women find themselves caught in the middle. If you've ever felt validated by testing… dismissed by medicine… or confused by the intensity of the conversation online, this episode is for you.Join the waitlist for BECOMING

This is your trusted space to cut through the noise, ditch the overwhelm, and finally feel extraordinary in your body, mind, and life. Are you ready to stop pushing through life and start living it with intention, energy, and ease? Then let's get started. I'm your host, Kellie Lupsha, a high-performance health coach, who is delighted to be your guide to vitality. In this episode, Dr. Heidi and I are diving into a topic that I know so many of you have been asking about: energy. Whether you feel like you're running on empty or you just want to go from an eight to a ten on your energy scale, we are breaking down the secret sauce your body needs. We're talking about those tiny structures inside you called mitochondria, why you aren't lazy even if you feel exhausted, and how we can flip the switch to create a positive feedback loop in our health.Key Highlights:➡️ Why feeling tired in your late 30s, 40s, and 50s is often a systemic change rather than a character flaw.➡️ What mitochondria actually do and why healthy ones equal better energy.➡️ Simple formula involving food and oxygen that your body uses to produce ATP.➡️ Why our mitochondria become less efficient as we age and how hormonal shifts play a role.➡️ The difference between the negative energy loop and the positive feedback loop we want to achieve.➡️ The modern habit that silently interferes with how your body creates energy.➡️ Why moving your body is essential to triggering your energy switches, even when you're tired.➡️ How stress regulation and giving yourself grace can unclog your mitochondrial signals.Key Takeaways:"Mitochondria affect your muscles, your sleep, your brain, your gut… it's the missing secret sauce to energy." - Kellie Lupsha"Laughter, joy, meditation, being around friends that we love, socialization... this is key for a healthy mitochondria." - Dr. Heidi*TAKE THE FREE ~ DISCOVER YOUR MIDLIFE HEALTH BLUEPRINT*****>>> Click Here

Did you know that bone loss doesn't start in your bones but often starts with hidden inflammation? In this episode, you'll learn why bone density loss is often a downstream effect of systemic inflammation and how identifying root causes can shift your results. Today's guest, Dr. Ann Shippy, explains the connection among autoimmunity, nutrient absorption, and the body's repair mechanisms, and shares practical strategies to calm inflammation naturally. By understanding the underlying biological drivers of bone loss, you can move beyond symptom management and begin rebuilding resilience from the inside out. This conversation offers a powerful reminder that stronger bones come from restoring whole-body balance and not just focusing on calcium.   About the Guest: Dr. Ann Shippy is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician and certified Functional Medicine practitioner based in Austin, Texas. With a background in chemical engineering and a successful career at IBM, she transitioned to medicine after facing complex health challenges. Using advanced testing and epigenetic insights, Dr. Ann empowers patients to activate the body's innate ability to heal, thrive, and even reverse chronic conditions. We sit down with Dr. Dawn Beaulieu, a Vanderbilt IBD specialist certified in functional medicine, to unpack a root-cause approach that complements biologics and brings relief where patients feel it most: sleep, fatigue, bowel consistency, and energy. We get specific about what functional medicine actually is—science-based, holistic, and individualized—then trace how Dr. Beaulieu integrates it into a busy academic IBD center. From the “functional medicine tree” and Five Rs to team-based care with dietitians and social workers, she shows how nutrition, hydration, and nervous system training shift the gut-brain axis. We talk real-world food strategies that work for sensitive guts, why ultra-processed ingredients and dyes upset the microbiome, and how to ramp fiber without misery. She shares outcomes from Vanderbilt's group programs, where patients improved quality-of-life, sleep, and fatigue in about twelve weeks, with some showing lower fecal calprotectin. We also tackle supplements with nuance: which nutrients many IBD patients actually need, how to choose third‑party tested brands, and why you can't out-supplement a bad diet. Dr. Beaulieu sets clear lines on when medication is essential for moderate to severe disease, then explores where GLP‑1 drugs may help overweight patients alongside standard care. Access matters too, so we highlight ways to find certified functional medicine providers, piece together a local team, and use tools like HRV training and Nerva to build daily resilience. This is a grounded, empowering roadmap for anyone stuck between “remission” and “feeling well.” If the goal is fewer flares and more life, these are the levers you can pull today—without abandoning the therapies that work. I am very excited to bring you Part 2 of my conversation with clinical nutritionist and co-founder of Hamptons BioMed, Tapp Francke. In last week's episode, we talked about learning about your own body's “terrain,” focusing on vitamins, nutrients, the gut biome, genetics, and how testing can guide smarter supplement choices and better overall health. In Part 2, we explore the environmental factors that quietly shape our health. Everyday exposures — including plastic, fragrance, EMFs, blue light, mold, and processed foods — can influence hormones, immune function, biological aging, and long-term resilience. Tapp explains why what we absorb through our skin and environment matters just as much as what we eat, and how small, practical changes can reduce ongoing stress on the body. This episode completely changed how I think about food, fragrance, water, and the environment I move through every day. It's not about eliminating everything or doing it “perfectly,” but about becoming more aware of what our bodies are constantly absorbing — and how small changes can add up to meaningful long-term impact.Hosted on Ausha. He discusses examples of deeper testing beyond common basics, the value of tracking data over time, and the importance of viewing markers in context—such as sleep, stress, nutrition, and training—so decisions are based on a fuller picture. He also highlights how inflammation and hormone-related markers can be considered as part of an integrated review, and closes by encouraging viewers to stay current with labs and contact the office or website to get testing scheduled if it's been more than six months.RESOURCES:Book Comprehensive Labs: https://agelessfuture.com/longevity-labs/FREE copy of The Peptide Blueprint: https://agelessfuture.com/blueprintSign up for future Health Accelerator Challenges calls LIVE! https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_YZsiUMOzSyqcE8IinC5YEQ#/registrationBooks: https://www.amazon.com/Books-Regan-Archibald/s?rh=n%3A283155%2Cp_27%3ARegan%2BArchibaldArticles: https://medium.com/search?q=Regan+ArchibaldLIKE/FOLLOW/SUBSCRIBE:YouTube -https://www.youtube.com/@ReganArchibald / https://www.youtube.com/@Ageless.FutureLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/regan-archibald-ab70b813Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/ageless.future/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/AgelessFutureHealth/DISCLAIMER: This video is for educational purposes only and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.  Many of the molecules discussed in this video are research compounds and are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for any specific medical use, indication, or condition. Today's conversation is one that touches every single one of us — whether we realize it or not. We're talking about trauma. Not just the big, obvious trauma. Not just what happened to you. But how it lives inside your body… and quietly shapes your health, stress levels, relationships, and even your sense of purpose.Joining us is Diana Bitting, co-founder and CEO of Catbird Health, an AI-powered trauma-informed care platform pioneering an entirely new model for healing. But Diana didn't start here. She spent decades struggling with a chronic inflammatory condition that no doctor could explain. Test after test came back “normal.” She was told it was stress. Or anxiety. Or maybe even “all in her head.”Sound familiar? After trying everything — diets, protocols, medications, functional medicine, and talk therapy — nothing created lasting relief. Until one conversation changed everything. When Diana began exploring trauma science and nervous system healing, her symptoms started to lift. Because here's what she discovered: Trauma doesn't just live in the brain. It lives in the body. And until the nervous system feels safe, true healing can't happen. In this episode, we explore:Why trauma is stored in the nervous systemThe link between inflammation, anxiety, insomnia, and unresolved traumaWhy talk therapy alone may not be enoughThe difference between cognitive healing and body-based healingHow personalized, trauma-informed care is changing the future of medicineWhy every single one of us can benefit from trauma healingThis conversation is grounded in science, but it's also deeply hopeful.Because healing trauma isn't just about resolving the past. It's about unlocking energy, clarity, connection, and purpose in the present. If you've ever felt like something was “off” in your body — even when everything looked fine on paper — this episode may connect some powerful dots. You are not broken. Functional medicine testing is everywhere. It is often marketed as “test, don't guess,” and just as often dismissed as invalidated or unscientific. So what is the truth? In this episode of The Trip Lab, we take a deep dive into what functional medicine testing actually is, how it differs from traditional laboratory testing, and what clinicians really mean when they say these tests are not “validated.” We explore why some advanced tests can be genuinely helpful when used thoughtfully, where their limitations lie, and why more testing does not always lead to better care.We walk through several commonly used functional medicine tests that I actually do use in my practice, including DUTCH, GI-MAP, and Organic Acids Testing (OAT), breaking down what each test measures, when it can add value, and … when it might not be helpful as well. We also discuss why I typically don't recommend mold or environmental toxin testing, and why exposure history and foundational interventions often matter more than identifying a specific toxin.

A thoughtful and educational conversation with Dr. Nab explores tremors, brain health, and the powerful connection between the gut and the nervous system. The discussion reframes symptoms as meaningful signals rather than issues to ignore, unpacking different types of tremors and potential root causes such as nutrient deficiencies, toxins, stress, and gut imbalances. With a functional medicine lens, the episode highlights the importance of early awareness, foundational lifestyle habits, and proactive brain care—showing how small, informed changes can support long-term neurological health and overall vitality.  Key Takeaways:   Symptoms like tremors are signals from the body, inviting us to look deeper rather than accept them as inevitable.  Brain health is closely tied to gut integrity, nutrient status, and the body's ability to manage toxins.  Foundational habits—movement, hydration, and whole foods—play a critical role in protecting cognitive health.  Stress and nervous system overload can amplify underlying imbalances over time.  Proactive testing and early awareness help put the odds in favor of long-term brain resilience and vitality.  About Dr. Georgia Nab:  Dr. Georgia Nab entered the chiropractic industry in 1992 by owning a chiropractic clinic in Wichita, Kansas. From 2012 through 2017, she joined a manufacturing facility in Wisconsin to provide chiropractic care, nutritional counseling, and educational training to the employees at the company's corporate headquarters. While there, she authored her book called 1 Degree of Change, in addition to numerous other publications.   In 2015, she graduated with her Masters in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine degree. On the other hand, if you are interested in general anti-aging health longevity... The bigger concern is actually the total dose of light delivered to your overall body.” “A lot of the focus is on the intensity of the light… But the other thing is: how big of a surface area is that intensity of light hitting? What is the total amount of light delivered to the tissue? That's going to hugely impact those systemic effects like the release of stem cells into your circulation.” RESOURCES MENTIONED Order Ari's book: The Ultimate Guide to Red Light Therapy on Amazon https://theenergyblueprint.com/ https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Guide-Light-Therapy-Revised/ The Energy Blueprint Website The Energy Blueprint Podcast RELATED EPISODES  623: RED LIGHT THERAPY FOR UPGRADING YOUR MITOCHONDRIA, CELLULAR ENERGY, SKIN AND BRAIN HEALTH WITH JONATHAN OTTO 693: TIRED ALL THE TIME?
