Dr. Aaron Hartman is a triple-board-certified physician, clinical researcher, and founder of Richmond Integrative & Functional Medicine. His medical career took a radical turn when conventional medicine failed his adopted daughter, Anna, who was born with cerebral palsy. Determined to find answers beyond pharmaceuticals and surgery, he dove into functional medicine—and watched his daughter make what specialists said was impossible progress. That experience reshaped his entire view of healthcare. Today, Dr. Hartman helps patients across the country reclaim their health when traditional medicine says “there’s nothing more we can do.” His new book, “ UnCurable: From Hopeless Diagnosis to Defying All Odds,” shares his personal and professional transformation and reveals what modern medicine often overlooks about the body’s ability to heal. What happens when even surgery and supplements can't get a broken bone to heal? When Dr. Ben Weitz fractured his femur and was told it might never heal, he turned to the same principles he's used with patients for decades: ‘root cause, functional medicine' thinking. In this conversation, he shares how he designed a bone-healing protocol that combined targeted nutrition, vitamin K2 and vitamin D optimization, growth factors, and the right kind of exercise stimulus. We also discuss why bone loss and osteoporosis aren't just ‘aging issues', how testing like trabecular bone scores can reveal what DEXA scans miss, and why many medications block bone repair instead of rebuilding it. The story offers a powerful look at how science, persistence, and patient intuition can work together to restore strength naturally. If you've ever worried about bone density, fractures, or slow healing, this episode will help you understand what your bones really need to rebuild safely and effectively.Episode Timeline: 00:00 – Episode Preview01:35 – Podcast Intro 02:45 – Dr. Weitz's Hip Fracture Story04:40 – Rehab and Early Supplements08:20 – Deciding Against Revision Surgery09:50 – Understanding Bone Cells11:45 – Using Forteo for Healing12:45 – Why Monitoring Bone Markers Matters13:50 – Adding Growth Hormone14:50 – Bone Stimulator Protocol15:27 – Effective Exercises for Bone16:40 – Ballistic Loading Benefits17:55 – Bone Density vs Bone Strength18:37 – Understanding Trabecular Bone Score19:40 – Why Positioning Affects DEXA21:10 – Reading Full DEXA Printouts23:22 – Men Rarely Get Bone Scans27:02 – Bone Stimulator Options29:20 – Risks of Bone Medications33:50 – Considering Osteoporosis Treatment34:03 – Medication vs Natural Approach36:55 – Vitamin D and Vitamin K39:55 – Calcium Myths Explained42:27 – Iodine Contrast Considerations45:49 – Where to Find Dr. Ben47:22 – Podcast Outro47:42 – Final Takeaways & Dr. Eric's Closing ThoughtsAbout Dr. Ben Weitz: Dr. Ben Weitz is a Certified Sports Chiropractor and Functional Medicine practitioner for more than 35 years and he has worked with professional sports teams. This week on the Mind Movement Health podcast, Kate Boyle talks with Xeba Zareie founder of Preme, about her recovery from severe gut issues and the science behind her prebiotic, electrolyte and gut-repair products. They explain the difference between prebiotics and probiotics, the importance of FODMAP-friendly fibers, and why magnesium and trace minerals matter for digestion and mood. The episode offers practical steps to support gut health: increase plant diversity and fiber gradually, consider targeted supplements like magnesium glycinate and hyaluronic acid for gut repair, get tested if you bloat easily, and support detoxification with hydration, sweating and liver-supportive practices. Connect with Xeba Zareie: When founder Xeba Zareie struggled with persistent gut illness, the usual solutions—antibiotics and store-bought probiotics—only made her worse. She finally found relief through Functional Medicine, using a low-FODMAP diet and targeted prebiotic fiber. But that experience revealed a larger problem: most people can't afford out-of-pocket Functional Medicine care, and most “gut-friendly” brands aren't actually IBS-friendly, often contain added probiotics, and frankly… taste bad. Determined to create both indulgence and alternative-medicine-level support for the growing number of people with gut issues, Xeba founded Preme—a premium gut-health brand offering noticeable, science-backed medicinal nutrition you actually crave. What began in her Dallas kitchen has grown into a targeted line of gut-focused staples: two prebiotic electrolyte drink mixes and an unflavored prebiotic fiber powder, all designed for even the most sensitive stomachs. Rooted in a lifelong healing journey and crafted with clinical insight, Preme brings body-and-soul support to everyday wellness. It's gut care that's tasty, approachable, and made with Functional Medicine-doctor-prescribed prebiotic fibers and premium ingredients. Because gut health shouldn't be a luxury, it should be trusted support, finally within reach. Hey Friend, Have you ever cut out your favorite foods, tried the “next best diet,” and still ended up right back where you started… or worse? In this week's episode of Functional Medicine for Christian Women, I sat down with two of my favorite people to talk about the real reason so many Christian women feel like they are doing everything “right” in their health and still not seeing lasting results. You will hear from: Shaela Daugherty, host of the Simple Fitness Habits podcast Brittany Braswell, host of the Faith-Filled Food Freedom podcast Together, we talk honestly about: Why fad diets like keto, “no carbs,” or extreme clean eating can backfire on your hormones, metabolism, and stress levels How chronic dieting can push your body into “starvation mode,” raise cortisol, and make weight loss harder over time Why “I just need to be more disciplined” is not the real problem How diet culture feeds comparison, obsession, and shame instead of true freedom in Christ The difference between quick-fix results and long-term, sustainable health habits What it actually looks like to surrender your health to the Lord and start rebuilding trust with your body This was not a perfectly scripted conversation. We hit record on a real, unedited talk so you could listen in as if you were sitting at the table with us. You will hear stories from our own lives, from clients we have walked with, and some gentle but needed truth about where you are placing your trust when it comes to your body. And if you need a little fun in the middle of all this… stay to the very end. Shaela and I give Brittany a challenge that had all of us laughing, and I think it will give you a helpful picture of just how exhausting fad diet culture can be. In grace + health, Lacy Lain Before you go…

In this episode of the Ageless Future Podcast, Cade Archibald dives into the hidden role of chronic muscle inflammation and why so many high-performers normalize pain until it becomes a deeper problem. He explores the balance between healthy inflammation and the kind that stalls healing, outlining how factors like overtraining, poor sleep, stress, and gut issues contribute to this cycle. Cade explains how regeneration is dependent on resolving inflammation and activating the body's muscle stem cells. You'll hear about key solutions—like BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu, and umbilical cord plasma—that support healing at the cellular level. Plus, real clinical results show how combining peptides, plasma, and stem cells has helped patients reverse decades of pain and muscle atrophy. "What is homeopathy? I think a lot of people confuse it with home remedies. And it's not necessarily home remedies. It is, not garlic and using turmeric and herbs. Rather, it's its own subset of medicine. It's an energetic medicine. So everything is ultra diluted in homeopathy. So they do take a mother tincture, or a natural substance, and will dilute that to the point where it's only the energy left of that substance. So we are talking about only the energy, and the way that it works is these ultra dilutions are going to help us to heal the body.” ~Lauren Briggs BSN, RN, HWNC-BC, HN-BCAh-Ha MomentsYou can redefine nursing on your own terms. In this illuminating conversation, we sit down with Hope Pedraza—a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, Human Design guide and Clinical Hypnotherapist—to explore how physical health and energetic alignment are deeply intertwined. Hope shares her journey from dance and pilates into integrative wellness, blending lab-based science with energetic healing. Together, we dive into how burnout, hormones, minerals, and emotional regulation are all connected through the lens of Human Design. This episode invites you to see your body as an intuitive system capable of self-healing when you learn to listen, rest, and reconnect with your innate balance—and encourages you to honor your rest cycles by viewing rest as just as valuable as your productivity. Key Takeaways: How true healing happens when we integrate the physical, emotional, and energetic aspects of health. Why learning your body's language—its signals, sensations, and subtle cues—is the foundation for self-healing and empowerment. How burnout often stems from over-identifying self-worth with productivity, and why healing requires shifting your frequency and cultivating safety around rest. How reframing rest as a safe, worthy, and necessary part of healing can rewire long-held trauma responses around overworking and "doing enough." How energy centers such as the root (linked to adrenals) and the solar plexus (linked to detoxification) reveal how stress and suppressed emotions directly impact physical well-being. Why foundational minerals like magnesium, sodium, and potassium are the body's "spark plugs," essential for hydration, hormone balance, and cellular repair. Dr. Shippy shares how the integrative and functional medicine approach helps women heal their gut, support detoxification, manage stress, and supercharge their mitochondria to naturally boost fertility and have healthier pregnancies. We also dive into the world of epigenetics—how the choices you make before conception can literally shape how your baby's genes are expressed for lifelong health. Dr. Shippy's message is clear: preconception care isn't just about getting pregnant, it's about setting up the next generation for success. Whether you're in your 20s, 30s, or 40s, taking time to optimize your health before conceiving can make all the difference for you AND your baby. Tune in to learn how intentional steps today can lead to healthier pregnancies, thriving babies, and an empowered path to motherhood. Dr. Ann Shippy Dr. Ann Shippy is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician and certified Functional Medicine practitioner. Before entering the world of medicine, Dr. Shippy spent years as a chemical engineer—a role that shaped her precision-driven, systems-based approach to health. Her transition to medicine was born from personal health struggles and a desire to uncover the root causes of illness rather than treating just symptoms alone. As the founder of Every Baby Well, Dr. Shippy empowers couples to prepare for healthy pregnancies through science-backed protocols, lab testing, and functional strategies. Motivated by the rising rates of chronic illness and developmental challenges in children, she authored The Preconception Revolution: A Science-Backed Path to Your Fertility and Generational Health, a practical and hopeful guide to optimizing health before conception. IN THIS EPISODE How changes in lifestyle can alter fertility AND epigenetics Functional medicine approaches for boosting fertility The importance of healthy preconception practices for fertility and the long-term health of your children Getting your partner involved for preconception success Non-negotiable supplements in addition to your prenatal Why a 90-day+ detoxification can boost conception success Practical lifestyle and nutrition recommendations for fertility The numbers and science behind the current fertility crisis QUOTES“What I realized is that as we're improving fertility, we're also changing something called epigenetics– how the genes are getting expressed, the little time capsules that are being passed on to the babies with the egg and the sperm, and it would help the kids be healthier.” “What I hope happens with this message is that even people in their 20s have access to this information about how important it is for them to have a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby. “ RESOURCES MENTIONED Pre-order Dr. Ann Shippy's Book: The Preconception Revolution https://annshippymd.com/the-preconception-revolution/ Pre-order The Preconception Revolution on Amazon https://amzn.to/43aDxH5 Dr. Ann Shippy's Website Every Baby Well Website Dr. Ann Shippy on Instagram RELATED EPISODES #530: The Critical Role That Nutrient Deficiencies Play In Fertility and Conception And How To Close The Gap with Lisa Dreher #428: The Most Important Solutions To Implement to Protect Our Fertility with Dr. Christiane Northrup 688: Unlock Cellular Energy and Longevity with Urolithin A + Mitochondrial Optimization with Jen Scheinman 683: Aging in Reverse: How Women Over 40 Can Boost Energy, Lose Weight & Rewrite Their Story with Natalie Jill
What if your body's “symptoms” aren't problems to fix… but messages you've been ignoring? What if your fatigue, bloating, or brain fog were the clues to your deepest healing? This conversation will change the way you think about health — forever. Functional Medicine trailblazer Andrea Nakayama reveals how to decode your body's signals, uncover hidden root causes, and reclaim your energy through science and self-awareness. We unpack:
Milk has long been sold as the key to strong bones, but research challenges that claim: many people don't tolerate dairy, calcium needs are lower than advertised, and higher milk intake doesn't necessarily prevent fractures. Politics and industry marketing helped set “three glasses a day,” even though healthy bones depend more on overall diet and lifestyle—things like vitamin D, movement, and avoiding soda, excess sugar, and stress that drive calcium loss. Dairy may be helpful for some diets, but it can also trigger bloating, acne, congestion, or digestive issues. The good news is that strong bones and good nutrition are still very doable without cow's milk—think leafy greens, sardines, almonds, chia, and sunshine for vitamin D. In this episode, I discuss, along with Dr. David Ludwig and Dr. Elizabeth Boham why bone health depends more on diet, lifestyle, and nutrient balance than on dairy. David S. Ludwig, MD, PhD, is an endocrinologist and researcher at Boston Children's Hospital, Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and Professor of Nutrition at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He co-directs the New Balance Foundation Obesity Prevention Center and founded the Optimal Weight for Life (OWL) program, one of the nation's largest clinics for children with obesity. For over 25 years, Dr. Ludwig has studied how diet composition affects metabolism, body weight, and chronic disease risk, focusing on low glycemic index, low-carbohydrate, and ketogenic diets. Called an “obesity warrior” by Time Magazine, he has championed policy changes to improve the food environment. A Principal Investigator on numerous NIH and philanthropic grants, Dr. Ludwig has published over 200 scientific articles and three books for the public, including the #1 New York Times bestseller Always, Hungry? Dr. Elizabeth Boham is Board Certified in Family Medicine from Albany Medical School, and she is an Institute for Functional Medicine Certified Practitioner and the Medical Director of The UltraWellness Center. Dr. Boham lectures on a variety of topics, including Women's Health and Breast Cancer Prevention, insulin resistance, heart health, weight control and allergies. She is on the faculty for the Institute for Functional Medicine. This episode is brought to you by BIOptimizers. Head to bioptimizers.com/hyman and use code HYMAN to save 15%.
