Join NYU film students, Stirling and Clau, as they discuss all things films, TV shows, and entertainment, with as little pretentiousness as possible ;) Reach us at filmschoolbrats@gmail.com! And find us on Letterboxd: @claubarran @stir
We're back from our hiatus, and we're bringing along more guests! Today we sit down with Badr Mastrouq and Des Lombardo to discuss the ubiquitous Jack Black/Richard Linklater classic that we've probably all seen at some point in our lives. This is part of a new segment we like to call, OH, I'VE SEEN THAT. Welcome back to our college series where we talk about our film school journey. Today we go over a little summary of our first year at NYU Tisch School of the Arts within our two different film majors (we'll be doing episodes on each year). DM or shoot us an email if you have any other specific questions!
Alas, our reactions to the infamous ceremony itself. What was more shocking—the best actor flub or Glenn Close twerking???
The time is here! The 2021 Oscars. It's been a considerably longer awards season this year, and we're ready to move on. Our quick thoughts on all 23 categories—what will win and what we'd like to win.
Skål! Grab a round with us as we discuss Thomas Vinterberg's latest collaboration with Mads Mikkelsen and our personal relationships to the devil's liquid.
Monke and Lizurd go boom! Follow along with the Buzzfeed quiz, and let us know if you're a Godzilla or a Kong: https://www.buzzfeed.com/dianaprince23/pretend-to-be-a-giant-monster-and-well-reveal-if-7id5f09cpf

BONUS ALERT WOOP WOOP. Join us as we get our drank on and discuss our favorite MCU movies. But it's not April 1st without a twist... ;)
Today we check out a couple of fresh documentaries on Netflix that are totally up our alley -- film and school! Stay tuned for next week, when we share our experiences getting into film school through the back door, by donating $50 million to NYU! ...kidding, kidding... or are we?...
Wow, two episodes back to back?? Crazy! Well, we stand by our "weekly" mantra, so this one is this week's episode -- we will take the weekend to prep for the following weekend, and that will put us back on the Sunday schedule. In any case, we woke up bright and early for a weird Academy tradition of nomination announcements at ungodly hours. We're clearly both no thoughts/head empty right when we wake up, so take this recording as a vulnerable offering to the masses; we know we're not at our prettiest.
OUR FIRST GUEST!!! We had a blast talking to our friend Kayla, whose television pilot is premiering in this year's SXSW Episodic Pilot Competition. We find out more about her process taking 'Parked' from ideation to final product, as well as her experience bringing such a personal project to the public. Interview starts at 8:20. Find out more info at these links: https://www.parkedinamerica.com/ https://www.instagram.com/parkedinamericashow/ https://www.sxsw.com/festivals/film/lineup/#episodic-pilots
Are you more of a Tom or a Jerry? Who has more top energy? These are the real questions, and we ask them. Follow along with the Buzzfeed quiz here: https://www.buzzfeed.com/raechilling/mix-together-some-foods-and-well-tell-you-if-you-2x863
Do yourself a favor and watch this show instead of anything else this Sunday. We try to explain why, but it's honestly too smart for us.
Back with another YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THAT? This time it's the movie that gives us two different pasta sauce recipes. Marty also reminds us who Fellini is (it's a film student thing -- you might not get it).
For V-Day 2021, we talk about John David Washington's passionate affair with mac n cheese, and his father Denzel's love for... detective work...???
Were you able to catch any of this year's Sundance offerings? Clau did; Stirling had to head back to last year's Grand Jury winner...
What an emotional rollercoaster of a movie. Reviews on Letterboxd would suggest that the ending is indeed a hot topic. What did you think?
We spent some extra time watching more movies this week, and we thought we'd go with a diverse few from the long list!
Was Palm Springs the best movie of 2020 (that we watched?). I don't know -- maybe. We didn't watch that much. But we've upgraded our setup, and we're back for bigger, better things in 2021. Coming to you again every week!
Here's a lil' quickie we had to cut from Episode 13 for time... An unedited 17 minutes of Stirling trying to get his brain working. Curse you time travel paradox!!!
A conclusion to our thoughts on the series as a whole! We had a lot of fun watching and recording this, and we look forward to bringing you more content for Season 2 -- maybe we'll even have some guests, who knows? We sure don't... As always, feel free to drop us episode suggestions in our email inbox, and follow us on Letterboxd to keep up with what we watch outside of this podcast. All links in the podcast description. Catch y'all soon!
Here we are, our grand 2-part season finale. Always gotta go out with 2 parts right? It was a lot of fun watching these movies for the first time -- stay tuned for our thoughts on BTTF Part III and the trilogy as a whole!
We're not dead! Just been very busy the last week packing for my (Stirling) move back to NY. Pt. 1 of the Back to the Future YHST will be uploaded later this week. Thanks for your patience!
Seth Rogen turned himself into a pickle Morty!!!
We go mooooooooo into Kelly Reichardt's latest indie gem. We both think it's worth a post-discussion rewatch.
Our first historical-informational episode! We always want our topics to be more than opinion pieces, so we thought the history was a fascinating subject that allowed us to follow a path to today's movie-going experience. We also geek out a bit about movie theaters... gross...
We're back from a short break, and we talk about Eliza Hittman's Sundance hit, Never Rarely Sometimes Always. It's an understated, often heartbreaking, depiction of a teenager's abortion journey that we highly recommend, and it's certainly relevant in today's discussions. TW: sexual abuse, assault.
In celebration of Pride Month, we discuss Sean Baker's 2015 indie hit, Tangerine, for another edition of You Haven't Seen That? Also just a heads up: we will be uploading on Sundays from now on!
Some thoughts we had on Quibi that we needed to cut for time in Episode 6!
Today we dive into the world of streaming and our personal takes on the main players. What's your favorite and least favorite service? Check out bonus Episode 6.5 for deeper thoughts on Quibi.
For our new YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THAT? segment, we talk about Spike Lee's 1989 master-joint, Do the Right Thing, and how it still remains tangibly relevant to our current events 31 years later. Link to some #BlackLivesMatter -related organizations: linktr.ee/s482 To round out APID/A Heritage Month, today we talk about Alan Yang's Tigertail and Alice Wu's The Half of It, both recently released Netflix originals that tackle subjects not common in the Hollywood mainstream.
WE'RE GOING WEEKLY! That's right; you heard (or read) correctly. Now that we have the time to dedicate our efforts into this podcast, we're coming back better than ever. We want to deliver consistent content for the masses! Join us every week for a new discussion! Today we talk about how circumstances under COVID-19 have changed our media consumption habits, as well as what we expect for movies moving forward. Correction: Thomas Middleditch is the Verizon guy, not T-Mobile. Sorry for letting you down with fake news.
