Romans 9 doesn't shrink God down to fit our idea of fairness. It lifts our eyes to His justice, mercy, and absolute sovereignty. This episode dives into the hard but beautiful truth that grace is never owed, mercy is always undeserved, and God is never unrighteous in the way He saves. Jacob got mercy, Esau got justice, and that reminder should leave us humbled, grateful, and in awe of a God whose grace is far sweeter than we deserve. On the beer side, Anthony reviews Landive Farmhouse Ale by Jester King Brewing, and Michael cracks open Daisy Tangerine Wheat by Fat Bottom Brewing.
Welcome back to Collections Conversations, a new miniseries from Fintech Takes, sponsored by our friends at C&R Software. The series digs into how generative AI is reshaping debt collections; what it enables, what it complicates, and why it might finally force the industry to retire the word “collections” altogether. In Episode 6, I sit down with Pedro Maya, Head of Collections and Credit Risk Execution at Tangerine, to talk about the biggest misconception he encounters inside banks: that AI will automate and fix everything. It won't. AI amplifies whatever you already have. Good design gets better. Bad design gets worse faster, and at scale. Training teams to work alongside AI across the credit lifecycle turns out to be less a technology question than an accountability one. The human guardrail AI can't offer is a question teams need to keep asking: is this the right outcome for the customer? We get into two concrete use cases where that plays out. Quality assurance (QA), where analyzing every agent call (rather than a monthly sample) turns a compliance exercise into coaching; and agentic AI, and agentic AI, where offloading basic customer interactions frees agents for the ones that require them. The KPI landscape is shifting, too. The new metrics are effectiveness-based: cure rates, NPS, and dollars collected as a function of the quality of the interaction (rather than its volume). And because this is Collections Conversations, we close on the longer view: what does the ideal human-AI collaboration look like across the credit lifecycle two or three years from now, and what, then, has to go right between here and there. This episode is brought to you by C&R Software. More than just debt collection, C&R sets the global standard for AI-native, humanized credit management. They simplify the complex with end-to-end credit-risk lifecycle support, powered by automated workflows, AI-native intelligence, and real-time, data-driven decisioning. This week Jenn wanted to share her Desert Island Mix that she shared a few years ago on the Super Awesome Mix podcast. Chances are, there may be some changes since then but no doubt these songs are still very meaningful to her. From 80s powerhouses to modern indie storytellers, Jenn maps the songs that shaped her life and the moments they still soundtrack. We start in montage mode with John Waite's Change and a spirited Vision Quest detour, then settle into anchor territory: the Eagles' warm-road harmonies and Led Zeppelin's tender Tangerine. Joy spikes with The Police's Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic, a steel-drum smile fit for any beach, while Taylor Swift's Invisible String wraps pandemic-era time into something curious, mystical, and finally wondrous. Jenn's love for storytelling shines through John Mayer's Walt Grace's Submarine Test, a cult-favorite narrative that sparks debate about reinvention, risk, and what it means to surface somewhere new.Modern textures pull the set forward. Glass Animals' Life Itself examines belonging with kinetic honesty, Iron & Wine's Call It Dreaming offers lyrical grace for anyone carrying old loves, and Young the Giant's Superposition turns physics into romance—finding beauty in overlap, uncertainty, and dual truths. We celebrate Annie Lennox's vocal fire on Eurythmics' Would I Lie to You and the candid power of sister-trio Haim on Forever. And to close, Jenn lands on Madonna's Borderline, a timeless 80s gem that still blooms on every listen.https://open.spotify.com/playlist/7DVnKQUtnZyidjcaKrAQub?si=4bfe773548754bb7You can find her mix on Apple Music here:https://music.apple.com/us/playlist/jenn-tully-desert-island-mix/pl.u-11zBJogFNWpD5mBChange by John WaiteOl' 55 by EaglesTangerine by Led ZeppelinLife Itself by Glass AnimalsEvery Little Thing She Does Is Magic by The Policeinvisible string by Taylor SwiftWould I Lie to You by Eurythmics, Annie Lennox, Dave StewartCall It Dreaming by Iron & WineWalt Grace's Submarine Test, January 1967 by John MayerForever by HAIMSuperposition by Young the GiantBorderline by Madonna

She was the golden voice of the big band era, lighting up ballrooms, radios and TVs across America. She sang two of the greatest big band hits ever recorded: "Green Eyes," and "Tangerine." And, she had a voice that could melt hearts. Helen O'Connell left an indelible mark on American music and culture. She continued to entertain after those sold-out swing crowds faded and she was here in Milwaukee, entertaining with two other golden legends.
Gemini is the sign of the mind, communication, and movement. Ruled by Mercury, Gemini governs the nervous system and the respiratory system, making mental stimulation, breath, and balance central themes of this zodiac sign.In this episode of Sixth Scents, Adam Barralet and Elizabeth Ashley explore essential oils for the Gemini zodiac sign, looking at how aromatherapy can support Gemini traits through medical astrology, spiritual astrology, and energetic understanding. This discussion is relevant not only for Gemini sun signs, but also for those with strong Gemini placements in their natal chart, rising sign, or Mercury rulership.

We have been blessed not once but twice in the last week by, first, a lovely close stereo stage mic'ed recording of Tangerine from 9/24/71 (which I covered last week). This one includes stage banter and it's absolutely lovely. Then a few days later Led Zeppelin Boots drops a truly incredible holy shit rehearsal of Since I've Been Loving You from May 1980. I know. But it's ridiculously great. Tight but loose. Bonzo sounds incredible as does Jimmy. Jimmy sticks every landing in this insanely sophisticated rendition. My gasts are flabbered. It's so so good.
Sedan tippar allt över i något annat. Madeline, Emilio, and Julian wrap up their cycle of Unorthodox Holiday Movies with a film befitting of a Christmas Eve episode - Sean Baker's “Tangerine”, released in 2015. Joining Emilio as a first-time-watcher is Edo Choi, Film Programmer at the beloved NYC independent theater, Metrograph. The group reflects on the way this film catapulted Sean Baker to prominence in the cinematic world, and discusses the unique style that comes through via Baker's use of iPhone cameras. They also take time to appreciate the variety of performances in this film, from newcomers to Baker regulars to social media stars. And, of course, they attempt to answer the question on everyone's minds: why is this film titled “Tangerine”?**Programming note: This conversation was recorded approximately ten days before the news of James Ransone's passing. Join us for a conversation with Luke Cahill, a Los Angeles-based colorist whose credits include Icarus, With Love, Meghan, Tangerine, American Murder: The Laci Peterson Story, and the newly released Left-Handed Girl — now streaming on Netflix and selected as Taiwan's official submission for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film.Luke shares how he discovered color grading and the moment the craft truly made sense for him. We talk through his early career, finding confidence in the suite, and how balancing technical skill with emotional awareness is core to the job. From grading Tangerine (shot entirely on an iPhone) to navigating high-pressure documentary schedules, Luke offers an honest look at the realities of finishing at a high level.A key theme of this episode is the human side of color. Luke discusses why colorists are often part technician, part therapist, how to build trust when clients arrive stressed or protective, and why simplicity, balance, and communication often matter more than deep node trees or plugins. We also explore look development, log workflows, and the importance of creating a safe, collaborative space where directors can actually see their film take shape. This episode is full of insight for colorists, cinematographers, editors, and filmmakers who want to understand the craft and psychology of finishing.Guest Links:IG - https://www.instagram.com/lightwavepost/Website - https://www.lightwavepost.com/IMDB - https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1760738/Mentioned Work:Left-Handed Girl — Directed by Sean Baker, Streaming on NetflixIcarus — NetflixAmerican Murder: The Laci Peterson Story — NetflixWith Love, Meghan - NetflixTangerine — Directed by Sean BakerSend us a text Flanders Scientific Inc. Taiwanese filmmaker Shih-Ching Tsou traces her path from a strict upbringing in Taipei to directing Left-Handed Girl, Taiwan's 2025 Oscar submission for Best International Film, and now streaming on Netflix. After years working alongside Sean Baker, the four-time Academy Award winner known for Anora, Tangerine, and The Florida Project, and her creative partner since they co-directed their first feature Take Out, Shih-Ching steps forward with her solo directorial debut.Shih-Ching and Baker wrote the script for Left-Handed Girl in 2010, but financing challenges kept the project on hold for more than a decade. Principal photography finally began in July 2022, a delay she now views as part of the film's natural evolution. The story draws from her experience growing up left-handed in a culture with rigid expectations for girls, and its emotional specificity has already connected with audiences around the world.Shot on an iPhone 13 with Beastgrip anamorphic lenses, the film captures Taipei's night markets with stripped-down realism influenced by Dogme 95 and Lee Chang-dong's Oasis. Shih-Ching worked with a small mobile crew, created the soundscape herself, and shaped the edit with Baker, whose instinct for editing performances she considers unmatched. After premiering at Cannes Critics' Week, Left-Handed Girl traveled the global festival circuit before Netflix acquired most territories, followed by theatrical releases in Taiwan, New York, and Los Angeles. Now representing Taiwan internationally, Shih-Ching reflects on stepping into visibility after decades behind the scenes. Her advice to filmmakers: trust your voice, avoid trends, build community, and keep going. Some films take time, and recognition often arrives later. What Movies Are You Watching?
