Ride that hippo and stay off the floor because we are talking about Bryan Fuller's feature directorial debut, Dust Bunny (2025).Starring a perfectly cast Sophie Sloan as a young girl who hires a nameless hitman (Mads Mikkelsen) to kill the monster under her bed, this is a throwback to classic gateway horror films from the Amblin era.Plus: Sigourney Weaver (and her gun heels), praise for balancing so many genres/tones, homages aplenty, and a new reason to get excited about The Vampire Lestat (hint: it's Sheila Atim).Questions? TV Mastermind Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies) makes his feature directorial debut with Dust Bunny starring Mads Mikkelsen, Sigourney Weaver, and newcomer Sophie Sloan. On the surface this film has nothing to do with Steven Spielberg, but it turns out that it was originally developed as an episode of the Amazing Stories reboot and Spielberg himself gave notes on the script that survived to this feature version. Fuller talks all about that creative collaboration as well as his relationship with Spielberg's work and even gives us some of his patented "queer readings" of some unlikely contenders from Spielberg's filmography that spoke to his own queer coming of age. "Dust Bunny" is an American horror-thriller film written and directed by Bryan Fuller in his feature directorial debut, starring Mads Mikkelsen, Sophie Sloan, Sheila Atim, David Dastmalchian, and Sigourney Weaver. It tells the story of an eight-year-old girl who asks her hitman neighbor to kill the monster under her bed. The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival and received positive reviews for Mads Mikkelsen and Sophie Sloan's chemistry, Fuller's imaginative direction, and its blending of genres to create a fantastical horror film for kids. Fuller was kind enough to spend some time talking with us about his work and experience making the film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which is now playing in theaters from Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate. Thank you, and enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... In this episode, Stuart and Jacob embark on a wild ride through the world of espionage as they look at the 1967 comedic spoof "Casino Royale" and the much more serious Daniel Craig iteration of 2006. They delve into the absurdity of the original film, which features a star-studded cast and multiple James Bonds, and discuss how its chaotic narrative pokes fun at the spy genre. Is it any good, spoofing a franchise that barely had existed by that point? Is the 2006 version the best of all the Bond films? Does Woody Allen suffer nearly enough? Also featured in this episode are diatribes about Edgar Wright's "The Running Man", an analysis of British comedy, praise for Mads Mikkelsen, and Stuart and Jacob even build their own spoofs. All this and more on They Remade It!Plot Synopsis Timestamps: 27:00 - 42:39----------Socials----------@theyremadeit.bsky.social on Blueskytheyremadeit@gmail.com
We're holding it together with ribbons and Scotch tape this week on Breakfast All Day. Alonso is off promoting the new edition of his book, "Have Yourself a Movie Little Christmas," so here's what we've got for you: ELLA McCAY: Yes, it is as baffling as you've heard. Thankfully, Tim Grierson from Screen International returns to help try and make sense of it. The latest film from Oscar-winner James L. Brooks stars Emma Mackey as a young lieutenant governor who must step up and lead her state, but various personal and professional crises get in the way. Jamie Lee Curtis, Albert Brooks and Woody Harrelson are among the impressive supporting cast. In theaters. DUST BUNNY: Writer-director Bryan Fuller (TV's "Pushing Daisies," "Hannibal") makes his feature debut with this delightfully dark tale. A precocious girl (Sophie Sloan) hires a hitman (Mads Mikkelsen) to kill the monster beneath her bed. But is the creature real, or just in her imagination? Sigourney Weaver and David Dastmalchian co-star. In theaters. If you're looking for Alonso's Christmas movie livestream, here it is, free to view on our Patreon. Thanks for spending some of your time with us during the busy holiday season! Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/
This week Megan, Evan, and Dave all saw all the movies on the list. Hot shit! We start with INFLUENCERS (1:37) (the aptly-titled sequel to INFLUENCER), and everyone is on board with the killin', though Evan and Dave don't love its pacing. We all agree that Cassandra Naud is dynamite in the lead, and Megan and Dave even feel sympathy for her murderous character (weird!). Then there's DUST BUNNY (24:28), a fantasy-horror about a young girl who thinks there's a monster under her bed that has eaten her family, so she hires her intriguing neighbor Mads Mikkelsen (playing a hitman) to off the monster. One of us hated this, two of us loved it. And we all like Sigourney Weaver and her gun shoes. Finally, there's WAKE UP DEAD MAN: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY (44:14), the latest in Rian Johnson's whodunit series. We're divided on this one again (two pro, one suuuuper con), but we all love Josh O'Connor's and Glenn Close's performances. Over on Patreon, we watch and yap about the 1946 noir BLACK ANGEL.
Actor, writer, and monster kid David Dastmalchian joins Talking Strange host Aaron Sagers to talk about his role as a badass hitman in Dust Bunny (opening in theaters Dec. 12), his own childhood nightmares, and chatting about mortality from inside a coffin. In Bryan Fuller's Dust Bunny, David plays a mysterious hitman sent to take out Mads Mikkelsen's character who is a high-value target in a fantastical criminal underworld. The job seems simple until he finds his mark seated with a 10-year-old girl, and suddenly the mission, the money, and his own buried history collide. David breaks down how Fuller pitched the role from the character's point of view and why a monster in the bed might stop this killer cold. Aaron and David dig into: David's childhood monsters: a small Frankenstein's creature stepping out of a closet door, and people who beg him for help before transforming into werewolves How those fears now live on in his comic Count Crowley: Reluctant Midnight Monster Hunter and other writing projects Bryan Fuller's heightened “world at 11” tone — grounded emotion with stylized color, comedy, and horror (think John Wick meets Amélie with a touch of Spielberg, Dante, and Sondheim) Dust Bunny as a holiday release and why David sees it as a perfect family-sharing, big-screen fairy tale for spooky-minded folks of all ages They also talk about Grave Conversations, David's YouTube show where he interviews guests while lying together in coffins, and how those end-of-life, afterlife, and legacy discussions reveal a more vulnerable side of people like Bryan Fuller. _______________________________________________________________ The Talking Strange Show with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, as well as experts in all things strange and unexplained. Visionary creator Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daisies, American Gods) joins Talking Strange host Aaron Sagers to discuss his feature directorial debut, Dust Bunny. The movie is a dark, fantastical fairy tale about childhood fear, imagined monsters, and the very real ones hiding in plain sight. The film stars Mads Mikkelsen as a mysterious hitman who kills real-life monsters and Sophie Sloan as a fearless 10-year-old girl convinced something evil has devoured her family. Together, they battle assassins, confront grief, and blur the line between fantasy and reality in a story that reminds viewers of the hyper-realized worlds of John Wick and Amélie. In this wide-ranging conversation, Fuller breaks down the film's heightened storybook aesthetic, monster design inspired by a child's imagination, action sequences that feel almost balletic, and what it's like directing performers like Mads Mikkelsen, Sigourney Weaver, and David Dastlmalchian. He also opens up about his own belief in the supernatural, including a chilling, unexplained encounter he experienced while living in Los Angeles. It's a conversation about monsters, fairy tales, ghosts, and why believing children, and embracing imagination, may be the most powerful tool we have. What was your childhood monster under the bed, or in the closet? Sound off in the comments! _______________________________________________________________ The Talking Strange Show with Aaron Sagers is a weekly paranormal pop culture show featuring celebrity and author interviews, as well as experts in all things strange and unexplained. Childhood fears, bedtime monsters, and the hazy membrane between imagination and trauma collide in “Dust Bunny,” the feature directorial debut of Bryan Fuller, a filmmaker whose storytelling instincts have always lived in the space between the two B's - beauty and brutality. It is a film that feels handcrafted out of nightmares and fairy-tale sugar, a creature feature through the eyes of a child who sees the world in magic and menace at the same time. Rich with color, shadows, and emotional ambiguity, it is unmistakably a Bryan Fuller movie, which is to say that it's tender, violent, mischievous, and sincere in equal measure.Joining The Discourse in today's episode is Bryan Fuller himself, the writer and director behind shows like “Hannibal,” “Pushing Daisies,” “American Gods,” and “Star Trek: Discovery” (in its early days). Fuller's signature blend of genre storytelling and emotional excavation finds a new form here as he steps behind the camera for his first feature-length film, crafting a story about a little girl who hires a hitman to kill the monster under her bed and discovers that nothing is simple when your fears have roots. The film stars Mads Mikkelsen, Sigourney Weaver, David Dastmalchian, Sophie Sloan, and Sheila Atim.
The Netflix whodunit "Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery" is the third movie in filmmaker Rian Johnson's tongue-in-cheek series featuring Daniel Craig as private detective Benoit Blanc. This time out, a young priest played by Josh O'Connor is accused of murdering a charismatic monsignor. The all-star cast includes Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner and Kerry Washington. They're all obviously having fun and O'Connor, in particular, is excellent. But this mildly engaging mystery is overlong and really stretches credibility. Still, "Wake Up Dead Man" is more than entertaining enough to keep you awake. The wildly original horror satire "Dust Bunny" plays like a midnight movie for the junior high set. A little girl named Aurora, sharply played by Sophie Slone, is haunted by a giant carnivorous dust bunny under her bed. After it has eaten her parents, she hires a neighbor, played by Mads Mikkelsen to dispatch it. It turns out that resident in apartment 5B is actually a hired killer, an associate of a handler played by Sigourney Weaver. The art direction and off-kilter humor are very imaginative, but "Dust Bunny" doesn't quite clean up as it tries to stick the landing. The Amazon Prime holiday rom-com "Merv" is one shaggy dog of a movie...and that has nothing to do with the fact that it's about a canine. Zooey Deschanel and Charlie Cox play an estranged couple who share custody of a scruffy pooch who's depressed by their separation, Their efforts to cheer him up mostly fail but rekindle their romantic spark. "Merv" is well meaning, but as artificial as an aluminum Christmas tree.
Bryan Fuller has written, produced and directed more TV series than we can count—including popular shows like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Discovery, as well as cult-audience favorites Dead Like Me and Pushing Daisies. Now he's unveiling his debut theatrical feature as writer and director, Dust Bunny, starring Mads Mikkelsen (with whom he made the Hannibal TV series) and it will not disappoint his loyal followers. Leonard and Jessie enjoyed listening to such an eloquent filmmaker also who also happens to be an articulate film buff.
In this episode of Comic Stripped, we dive into one of the wildest comic-to-film gaps ever: Victor Santos' silent, minimalist noir Polar: It Came From the Cold and Netflix's loud, neon-soaked action flick Polar starring Mads Mikkelsen. The comic is all style and silence—sharp lines, stark colors, and a cold assassin drifting through a dying world. The movie throws that out for explosive violence, cartoon villains, and a full John Wick makeover. We break down how the same character becomes two completely different stories, why the adaptation swings so hard away from the source, and what this says about Hollywood's obsession with recreating Wick-style hits without understanding what makes them work.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

This week on Forgotten Cinema, the Mikes pour one out for "Another Round" (2020), the Danish drama-comedy that deserved far more attention than it got. Both Mike Butler and Mike Field really enjoy this film; the performances are excellent across the board, especially from Mads Mikkelsen, who delivers one of his most emotionally layered roles. The film walks a tricky tonal tightrope, balancing humor, melancholy, and hard truths about addiction, midlife crisis, and the search for meaning. The Mikes discuss how the movie's message lands gracefully without preaching, and how its final stretch (especially that unforgettable dance scene) cements it as something special. They also talk about why the film slipped under the radar for so many viewers: despite awards recognition, Another Round launched as a foreign-language release during the pandemic, which sadly, severely limited its reach.A smart, moving, beautifully acted film that more people should see. What's your favorite film about drinking?

...Neida, men kanskje karakterene Mads Mikkelsen spiller hehe.

Wirework lover and wife guy Paul W.S. Anderson tries his hand at an adventure classic with 2011's The Three Musketeers! How is he going to find a way to add Matrix fights, laser traps and exploding airships into this one? Starring Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom, Mads Mikkelsen, Chrisoph Waltz, and, you guessed it, Milla Jovovich. After a successful heist in Venice, the musketeers and Milady manage to steal Leonardo la Vinci's famous airship plans. Athos (Matthew Macfadyen) uses his classic scuba ninja skills, Aramis (Evans) his Assassin's Creed cloak-wearing skills, and Porthos (Stevenson) his getting into prison on purpose skills. However, tragedy strikes when Milady, with the help of the Duke of Buckingham (Bloom) betrays the team and steals the plans for the duke. One year later, D'Artagnan (Logan Lerman) is a Gascon bumpkin heading to the big city to start duels with everyone he meets. After picking a fight with Rochefort (Mikkelsen), the best swordsman in France, he picks fights with the 2nd-4th best swordsmen in France: the Three Musketeers. But they become friends anyway, and engage in a highly bastardized version of the book's plot in order to thwart the evil plan of Cardinal Richelieu (Waltz). Will the team accomplish whatever they were trying to do? Will they integrate a bunch of 2010s style 3D elements? Will an airship be shot at by an even bigger airship? You'll just have to listen to find out!

Roxy Striar & Andrew Gordon sit down for their first-time reaction to The Silence of the Lambs, one of the most iconic psychological thrillers in cinema history. Directed by Jonathan Demme (Philadelphia, Rachel Getting Married) and based on the novel by Thomas Harris, the film follows FBI trainee Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster – Taxi Driver, Panic Room, Contact) as she seeks the help of the brilliant yet terrifying Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins – The Father, The Two Popes, Westworld) to catch the elusive serial killer Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine – Monk, The Fast and the Furious). This reaction dives deep into unforgettable moments like the chilling “I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti” scene, Hannibal's eerie first meeting with Clarice Starling, “Well, hello Clarice” (a line forever etched in pop culture), Clarice's intense interview sessions with Hannibal Lecter, Buffalo Bill's disturbing transformation scenes including “It puts the lotion on its skin” and “Put the lotion in the basket!” plus the terrifying night vision climax that remains one of the most suspenseful endings in cinema history. The film also stars Scott Glenn (The Bourne Ultimatum, The Leftovers) as Jack Crawford, and Brooke Smith (Grey's Anatomy, Interstellar) as Catherine Martin. The Silence of the Lambs stands as a cornerstone in the Hannibal Lecter franchise, which includes Manhunter, Hannibal, Red Dragon, Hannibal Rising, and the acclaimed TV series Hannibal starring Mads Mikkelsen. Can a meme really get you deported? This week's Free Speech Friday, is on Mads Mikkelsen, a Norwegian tourist allegedly kicked out of the country over a viral JD Vance meme saved to his phone. His story comes as tensions over speech rights at our borders are under greater threat. I break down what's going on and dig into the U.S. government's growing use of border screenings to police political speech. From increased surveillance to ideological questioning at customs, journalists, activists, visitors and citizens are experiencing a drastic chilling effect on free expression. The border is quickly becoming the front line in the government's war on free speech. ***** Buy a subscription to my Tech and Online Culture newsletter, User Magazine to support my work!!!!

Tune in as 2 Cents Critic kicks off Pride Month! Yes, this month has circled back around for the year 2025, so the program will be focusing on queer art. For this first episode of June, Robyn Zabukovec (@TheFinalGirly) strides on back to her guest chair for a breakdown of Hannibal, the horror-thriller show that premiered on NBC in 2013 and spent three seasons diving into the grisly and psychological layers of the bond that grows between an FBI criminal profiler with a painfully perceptive knack for empathy and a cunning forensic psychiatrist who harbors murderous and cannibalistic secrets. Comparing this show to the underrated horror movie Sound of Violence (which Arthur and Robyn previously covered last Pride Month on 2CC), the fake TV series Clarice, and Robyn's hatred of the movies Hannibal (2001) and Red Dragon stand out as a few of the subjects on this episode.Developed by Bryan Fuller, Hannibal stars Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, Laurence Fishburne, Caroline Dhavernas, Hettienne Park, Scott Thompson, Aaron Abrams, Gillian Anderson, Raúl Esparza, Kacey Rohl, Lara Jean Chorostecki, Suzy Eddie Izzard, Gina Torres, Anna Chlumsky, Katharine Isabelle, Michael Pitt, Joe Anderson, Vladimir Jon Cubrt, Cynthia Nixon, Richard Armitage, Rutina Wesley, Tao Okamoto, Glenn Fleshler, and Fortunato Cerlino.Spoilers start at 40:45Note: Sorry for not posting an episode last week! Mon dieu! The boys are diving into un peu de cinéma français with 2024's MadS. Don't let the misleading description fool you, this is every zombie movie you've seen, but with a bit of a stylistic twist, and we're not talking just the “S” in the title being capitalized. Don't worry, there are a lot fewer Mads Mikkelsen jokes than you would expect.
