Welcome to yet another season of Le Film. In this season 2 opener, we discuss Thomas Vinterberg's 2020 black comedy-drama, Another Round. In the film, we follow four high school professors who discover an unusual method to boost student engagement and personal confidence. The method? Maintain a constant blood alcohol content of 0.05% or below. Why? Because according to psychiatrist Finn Skårderud, this constant level of alcohol in the blood makes humans more creative, confident, and relaxed. But with all tests, unexpected results follow. As always, thank you for listening, and we hope you enjoy our discussion. The movie you're making me watch today is The Hunt (2012), a gut-punching Danish drama directed by Thomas Vinterberg that'll leave you questioning everything about truth, trust, and mob mentality. Starring Mads Mikkelsen in a raw, heart-shattering performance as Lucas, a kindergarten teacher whose life unravels when a child's innocent lie sparks accusations of abuse, this film dives deep into the chaos of a tight-knit community turning on one of its own. Vinterberg, the Dogme 95 rebel behind Festen, crafts a chilling, no-holds-barred look at how fear and gossip can spiral into a modern-day witch hunt. Join us as we unpack Mikkelsen's Cannes-winning intensity, the film's haunting visuals, and why this Oscar-nominated thriller still hits like a freight train. Is it a masterpiece of human nature or a brutal test of endurance?

HEY EVERYONE! Corbin and Matt are starting a new series! It's called Digital Frontiers: Digital Cinema From 1998-2011, and it's about the movies' transition to digital as a primary medium, as seen in the movies that took the first steps forward. We are excited for you to join us on this journey, seeking answers to the eternal present question: "hey, why do movies look like that now?"  Our first episode is about "Festen," ('The Celebration,' in English), The first certified Dogme 95 movie and an absolute banger. Topics include: the weird little camera they made it with and the heights of emotional intensity it archives, the family as a model for society, the usefulness of digital artifacts in creating an aesthetic, and skateboarding videos.  Matt recommends some reading on digital cinema here. Corbin recommends Monster Hunter. Also of note for this episode, C. Claire Thompson's monograph on "Festen," available on University of Washington Prss (or a library of some sort, it's pretty expensive)! Next week's episode is about "Star Wars, Episode II: Attack of the Clones." There is a chance you've seen it but if not it's on Disney+.

Hosted by media analyst, broadcaster and experience designer Johanna Koljonen, it delves deep into the rapidly evolving film industry. Film i Väst Analysis' upcoming report, "The Answers: Future Audiovisual Policies – Revolution, Reforms or Just Let it Be," looks at the diverse markets across Europe and gives the answers (or rather: values) to the burning questions that everyone is asking in regards to the current collision between public film funding and challenging cultural and economic policies. Answers are not given easily, as each market operates differently. Different funding systems call for different actions, and the right balance between economic and cultural arguments must be found locally – it doesn't have to be a battle between economy and art. In this episode, Tomas Eskilsson, founder of Film i Väst and Head of Film i Väst Analysis, along with producer and mentor Joanna Szymańska, explore the current state of public film funding and the creative sectors in Europe, drawing from the findings of the report. The rise of right-wing policies is increasingly affecting film funding strategies, ultimately challenging the freedom of cultural expression. However, the future is not set in stone, but rather shaped by the actions that are taken today. Tomas Eskilsson founded Film i Väst in 1992, and was the CEO until 2016. He now works as the Head of Strategy in Film i Väst and Head of Film i Väst Analysis. He is the author of the reports ‘Public Film Funding at a Crossroads' (March 2022) and ‘Public Film Funding at a Crossroads II' (to be published August 2023). He is right now working with the third a final report in the series: The Answers: Future Audiovisual Policies – Revolution, Reforms or Just Let it Be. Joanna Szymańska is a film producer with over 15 years of experience in independent and international co-productions. She co-produced the award-winning film “Red Path” (dir. Lotfi Achour) which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival. Joanna is a mentor for emerging filmmakers and serves as the Head of Studies for the Erich Pommer Institut's workshop on European co-production. She is currently pursuing a PhD at the Łódź Film School. The host Johanna Koljonen is a media analyst, broadcaster, and experience designer. She is the author of the Göteborg Film Festival's annual Nostradamus Report on the near future of the screen industries, which is in its 11th year. She lectures internationally on changes in the media sector, and on participation and narrative design. Her background is in public service broadcasting; in 2011, she received the Swedish Grand Journalism Award in the Innovator category. Film i Väst is Scandinavia's major regional film fund and one of the bigger regional film funds in Europe. Film i Väst has made co-production with all parts of the world. Film i Väst is mostly known for its long-time collaboration with some of the most interesting directors in Northern Europe and elsewhere: Ruben Östlund, Tarek Saleh, Susanne Bier, Thomas Vinterberg, Lars von Trier, Joachim Trier, Lone Scherfig, Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Kaother Ben Hania are many more. During the last 30 years Film i Väst has co-financed and co-produced over 1000 feature films and a vast number of drama series. The report will be released February 16, 2025. More info about the release can be found here. The Berlinale's European Film Market is the first international film market of the year, where the film industry starts its business. The film, set in a small comminuty in the Scottish Highlands in the 1970s, tells the story of Bess McNeill, a simply, godly woman who marries outsider oil rig worker Jan. When Jan is paralyzed after a work accident, he compels Bess to take other lovers in order to "keep him alive"...a task which she steadily comes to believe has divine connotations. Shot in 35mm 'scope with the great Robby Muller behind the camera, the film is a visually staggering work broaching difficult subject matter in the realms of faith, sexuality, and patriarchy all rendered in Von Trier's singular tenor, equal parts brutal, earnest, and cheekily playful. We discuss the career of Von Trier, his work as a founding member of the Dogme95 collective, and the later period evolution of his storytelling. Then, we wrestle with the film's themes and execution of its ideas. Does the movie hold up for a longtime devotee and a newcomer alike? Finally, we try to make sense of Von Trier's oeuvre, and what - if anything - could be considered the trademarks of his style.Follow Liam Billingham on Twitter.Listen and subscribe to Die Hard On A Blank Podcast.Read & Subscribe to Peter Raleigh's Newsletter 'Long Library'. ....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish

Pauses musicales : Muzi Light, Joao Selva Vai te curar.

Ellen E Jones and Mark Kermode don their red raincoats to celebrate the 50th anniversary of haunting British thriller Don't Look Now. Originally released in 1973, Don't Look Now is a spine-tingling psychodrama in which Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie play a married couple grieving the death of their young daughter in Venice. Adapted from a story by Daphne du Maurier and directed by Nicolas Roeg, the film manages to be an eerie occult chiller, a heart breaking meditation upon love and grief, and a shaggy dog story with a grisly sting in its tail. Ellen speaks to Allan Scott, who co-wrote the screenplay for Don't Look Now with his partner Chris Bryant, about his memories of the film, including its notorious sex scene, and about his long working relationship with Nicolas Roeg. And Mark talks to two filmmakers for whom Don't Look Now has been a touchstone. Writer, actor and director Alice Lowe reveals how the film, and an encounter with Nicolas Roeg, influenced her black comedy thriller Prevenge. And the director of Another Round, Thomas Vinterberg discusses the impact Don't Look Now has had on his work, and the new resonance he finds in the film following the tragic death of his own daughter. It's not hyperbole to say that this week's kid tv section and outro is the best content from Bad Dads Film Review yet, the laughs, the thrills, the spectacular revelations! And what about that phone call from Harrison Ford? Incredible! Sadly, it's drinking week and appropriately scatter brained, we messed things up by failing to record our DEXTERS LABORATORY segment and the outro. Maybe we'll give the sociopathic scientist another go some day because Sidey and I enjoyed this and not only because it was mercifully short.Thankfully Bar Manager Cris knows his strainers from his muddlers so nothing too embarrassing happens when we discuss the Top 5 Drinks in movies. Turns out that when it comes to alcoholic content we're pretty much game for all of it. Our main - by which I mean our only - feature is Thomas Vinterberg's bittersweet, melancholy and very human look at midlife crises and our relationship with alcohol in ANOTHER ROUND. A group of bored Danish teachers decide to test a theory by Norwegian philosopher and psychiatrist Finn Skarderud who claims that humans are born with a blood alcohol level 0.05% too low and therefore we should all be permanently slightly smashed. As you can imagine there are absolutely no drawbacks to this plan whatsoever. Who knew the Danes were such lushes? Mads Mikkelsen's incredible dance moves would make even a teetotaller slightly tipsy. We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com.
