George Orwell's classic totalitarian critique "Animal Farm" gets a dumbed-down animated big screen incarnation. Yes, the pigs take over the farm, but the metaphors don't fly. The all-star voice cast includes Seth Rogan, Glenn Close, Kieran Culkin and Woody Harrelson but their efforts are for naught. Screenwriter Nicholas Stoller and director Andy Serkis deserve some credit for trying a new approach, but this so-called modernized version of “Animal Farm” isn't for adults who revere Orwell or for kids who couldn't care less. Here's one that won't be shown on airlines anytime soon. "Jaws" meets "Airport" in "Deep Water," the story of a loaded passenger flight that crashes into -you guessed it- shark infested waters. Aaron Eckhart and Sir Ben Kingsley are the captains who accidentally serve up a smorgasbord for hungry carnivores along with the typical disaster movie cliches. If the premise sounds familiar, another movie called “No Way Up” came out two years ago with a nearly identical plot. While it's overly familiar, director Renny Harlin's opus “Deep Water” is impressively filmed. It ain't deep, but disaster movie fans won't mind. Producer John Lasseter may no longer be at Pixar, but his creative fingerprints are all over the wildly imaginative Netflix animated fantasy, "Swapped." Michael B. Jordan and Juno Temple provide the voices of a mammal and a bird who magically swap bodies in a fantastical woodland area. Their experiences change their perspectives, proving that differences are good and that working together makes life better for everyone. It's smart and beautifully animated. "Swapped" is a family film in the best sense, providing thoughtful entertainment that can be enjoyed by all age groups.

It's the episode you literally voted for, so this week democracy wins. We hesitantly got on peak dad-hero Harrison Ford's Air Force One (and he seemed a little grumpy about it, tbh.)It feels a lot like The Fugitive, but with more neck-snapping, and the delightfully unhinged Gary Oldman as a terrorist who somehow hijacks both the world's most secure aircraft and Joe's heart.Directed by submarine-and-storm enthusiast Wolfgang Petersen, this is Greg's ultimate “Die Hard on a blank” entry — a movie where the President of the United States personally handles hostage negotiations by punching them. (The Vice President, Glenn Close, does all the negotiations, obviously. Vice Presidents do that.)Is it ridiculous? Yes.Is it sincere? Also yes.Does it feature the Leader of the Free World growling “Get off my plane” before launching a man into open air? You bet your nuclear codes it does.Greg and Joe strap in, secure the escape pod, and learn a little something about themselves along the way.As with every episode, this is the love letter that needed to happen about this movie. A new watchdog report raises serious questions about Rep. Rashida Tlaib's alleged ties to extremist groups, while an AI-generated Scott Adams controversy sparks backlash online. Kamala Harris surges in new Democrat polling — but her big reveal, baffling outfit, and trademark word salad immediately steal the spotlight. We also cover redistricting drama in Virginia, lies exposed from Gov. Wes Moore, and a bizarre new congressional candidate in Texas. Trump takes center stage at the National Prayer Breakfast, roasting Biden, calling out Senators, and reminding voters why his comeback campaign is resonating. On Capitol Hill, Maxine Waters walks back comments as Scott Bessent humiliates Elizabeth Warren in a tense exchange. Finally, Candace Owens sinks to new lows — attacking Charlie Kirk, issuing threats, promoting bizarre spiritual claims, and openly revealing her strategy for gaining followers. 00:00 Intro00:45 Nancy Guthrie update & ransom letter details11:15 Left-wing violence, Tlaib watchdog report & AI Scott Adams controversy14:10 Hillary Clinton meltdown19:55 Redistricting, Dem polls & Kamala chaos28:50 Wes Moore exposed & political oddities32:10 Cultural insanity roundup (Coldplay, fertility language, AOC, Toronto)38:35 Trump at National Prayer Breakfast42:15 Trump roasts Biden & Senate 46:26 Maxine Waters walks it back / Bessent vs Warren49:20 Illegal immigrant crime & Antifa arrest53:35 NYT self-deportation story55:55 Schumer doubles down on SAVE Act 57:35 Stephen A. We're going back to the archives for a 2019 conversation with Meg Wolitzer, whose best-selling books include The Interestings and The Ten-Year Nap. Wolitzer brings readers deep into the lives of her characters, and her clear prose, is infused with sharp observations about group dynamics and ambition. A feminist thread runs throughout all of her work, particularly in her novel “The Wife,” a satirical portrait of a marriage between an acclaimed writer and his overlooked and uncredited spouse. It was adapted into a movie starring Glenn Close. On January 24, 2019 , Meg Wolitzer came to the Sydney Goldstein Theater, to be interviewed by New Yorker writer Adam Gopnik. The two talked about her just-published work The Female Persuasion, an investigation into power and different generation's conflicting concepts of feminism.

Benoit Blanc is back — but not in the way you might expect. In this episode, we dig into Wake Up Dead Man, the third entry in Rian Johnson's Knives Out series, and quickly realise this isn't just another playful, sun-drenched whodunnit. The tone is darker, stranger, and far more morbid than Knives Out or Glass Onion, leaning hard into religious imagery, guilt, confession, and moral rot.Set around a remote church and a fire-and-brimstone priest, the film opens with what looks like an impossible murder: a man stabbed in a sealed room, in full view of his congregation. From there, Blanc circles a tight group of suspects — each with motive, history, and secrets — as the film toys with classic murder-mystery rules… and then quietly breaks a few of them. What we talk about in the episode:The tonal shift — why this feels closer to gothic noir than cosy Agatha ChristieReligion, confession, and judgment as thematic engines, not just window dressingWhether the mystery is too Scooby-Doo or intentionally rejecting “fair-play” sleuthingA stacked cast and who actually makes an impact (and who doesn't)Daniel Craig's Benoit Blanc: more observer than solver this time — for better or worseThe film's final act, revelations, and why it left us oddly unsatisfied despite clever ideasHow it stacks up against Knives Out (still the gold standard) and Glass Onion (the loudest sibling)We also get into a broader debate about modern murder mysteries, Netflix's influence on structure and pacing, and whether this series is drifting away from the thing that made it work in the first place: watching a brilliant detective actually do the detecting. If you like your whodunnits bleak, talky, and a little unholy — or if you just want to hear us wrestle with a film that's clever, flawed, and deliberately frustrating — this one's for you.
