5 Reasons Your Financial Plan is Failing

The Money Advantage Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 12, 2021 49:36

Are you on track for financial freedom? If you don't know the answer to this question, you're not alone.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1uNyH8npUik Most people think the answer is how much more they have left before the house is paid off, how much left on the student loans, the balance of their retirement fund, the stock market's performance, the Federal Reserve chair's economic analysis, or interest rates.  While these things paint the landscape along the road to financial freedom, they have almost nothing to do with your progress. Really, these answers avoid the question. The problem is that you can do all the analysis and understand the market factors, possibly make a lot of money when times are good, but still have the same nagging fear that you'll lose it all or lose control. Today, we're speaking out about the reasons why your financial plan is failing, and why so many good people with good intentions who are doing “all the right things” are still getting derailed. It's not interest rates, the stock market, inflation, or having selected the wrong risk tolerance. So if you want to find out exactly why you're not where you want to be… tune in now! Table of contentsThe “Problem” with Financial Advice5 Reasons Your Financial Plan is Failing1. You're Not Taking Action2. You Haven't Defined What Financial Freedom Means to You3. You're Distracted4. You're Guessing 5. You're Making Things ComplicatedAre You Doing the Best You Can with What You Have?Book A Strategy Call Do you find yourself asking questions like: Do I have enough money?Am I managing my money correctly?Do I have enough cash flow? Will I be able to afford retirement? Can I put my children through college?Am I going to be able to grow my business the way I want to? If you are, first know that you're not alone and that there are solutions for you. Your financial experience doesn't have to keep you up at night, and we want to help you jump over any hurdles on your path.  We know that there are financial struggles at every income level—no matter how well someone appears to be doing from the outside. And in the same vein, there are also solutions at every income level. In today's post, we want to address the five reasons your financial plan is failing, so that you can rectify them and get back on track to financial freedom. The “Problem” with Financial Advice Financial advice can be tricky because there are so many moving parts. You could talk with a broker and get one strategy, a CPA and get another, and a life insurance agent and get something completely different! Not to mention, when you go online and do the research yourself, you'll read hundreds of conflicting viewpoints. It can seem like there are no right answers, or that you have to have a degree in finance or economics to really understand anything, yet that's not true. We want to help you sift through the noise and put together something cohesive that works for you.  First things first: you don't have to do it all or start by doing everything. Sometimes mastering one strategy, and making it your own, can make a huge difference. Find something or someone that aligns with your values, and start somewhere. 5 Reasons Your Financial Plan is Failing 1. You're Not Taking Action When it comes to your financial future, one of the best things you can do is take action. If you let fear of failure keep you in a state of inaction, you can hinder any forward momentum. It's important to acknowledge the things you're afraid of—like losing money—so that you can take actions that will better your odds and your current circumstances.  Because the reality is, there are too many variables outside of your control. The stock market and the economy will continue to change, even if you don't take action. So what actions can you take to protect yourself and your finances now, so you can make riskier decisions with greater confidence? 2.

Not to mention his years as a sheet metal worker by day and playing Honkey Tonks at night in and around his hometown of San Antonio, Texas.  In the mid-seventies when the country pop Kenny Rogers, John Denver and the outlaw sound of Waylon and Willie was the rage, along came the traditionalist Moe Bandy. The Texas singer with twin fiddles and steel guitar in the band kept Texas-style Honkey Tonk music alive, but it wasn't easy. In 1972 Moe met record producer Ray Baker on a hunting trip and convinced him to listen to some demo tapes he had made. Baker agreed to produce Moe if he was willing to pay for recording session. Moe agreed and out of that session came Moe's first hit song "I just Started Hatin Cheatin' Songs Today".  GRC records picked up the song and released it nationally where it became a top 20 hit and that was just the beginning. Moe followed up with "It Was Always So Easy (To Find An Unhappy Woman)" and his first #1 hit "Bandy The Rodeo Clown". His songs never strayed far from the traditionally Honky Tonk fare. Loving, cheating, drinking and patriotic songs formed the core of his music.Moe continues to perform to packed houses all over the world.  More than anything else Moe loves to perform for his countless fans.  Be sure to check out Moe's website MoeBandy.com because he just might be coming to a town near you!  Also, make sure you get a copy of his autobiography, "Moe Bandy - Lucky Me".  "When I look back on my life, 'Lucky Me' really sums it all up.  I am lucky to have had all the success that I've enjoyed.  And I am lucky to still be here.  After you read my life story, you'll agree that I am very lucky!  I am very blessed", said Moe.For Moe's complete tour schedule visit MoeBandy.com or MoeBandyBook.com.

Colleen Siuzdak is the Manager of VISIT Staten Island, a campaign run out of the Staten Island Borough President James Oddo’s Office of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. This office, created in June 2017, invites visitors to explore the borough’s many parks and cultural attractions, while encouraging residents to explore their own backyard. Start your journey to Staten Island on the free Staten Island Ferry and see the many offerings of the Unexpected Borough! Jennifer Sammartino is a former journalist and experienced communications professional with a particular interest in serving the community. She’s fresh off serving as the first-ever Director of Tourism and Cultural Affairs for the Office of the Staten Island Borough President. And she is ecstatic to take on new challenges as Deputy Chief of Staff. Destination on the Left is joined by Colleen Siuzdak and Jennifer Sammartino from the Staten Island Office of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. During our conversation, Colleen, Jennifer, and I discuss the different ways VISIT Staten Island entices visitors to explore the Unexpected Borough. We talk about the challenges of marketing a destination so close to Manhattan, and the creative ways in which VISIT Staten Island has collaborated to boost tourism! What You Will Learn in This Episode: Colleen and Jennifer’s journey into the travel and tourism industry How the free Staten Island Ferry has made an impact on the Unexpected Borough’s visitor numbers Why the VISIT Staten Island campaign entices visitors to explore the many offerings of the Unexpected Borough The challenges of marketing a destination in such close proximity to Manhattan Creative ways in which VISIT Staten Island has collaborated to boost tourism How the decline in international travel has impacted their marketing strategy How Colleen and Jennifer have embraced Staten Island’s parks and lower population density as they restructure their marketing efforts Best practices that have made Colleen and Jennifer’s partnerships successful How Colleen and Jennifer are taking a more holistic approach to destination marketing VISIT Staten Island Colleen Siuzdak and Jennifer Sammartino join us from the office of the Staten Island Borough President, James. S. Oddo! Colleen is the manager of VISIT Staten Island, a campaign highlighting the borough’s many parks and cultural attractions for visitors and locals alike. Jennifer is the Deputy Chief of Staff for the Office of Tourism and Cultural Affairs. Together, they form an unstoppable destination marketing team. In our conversation, Colleen, Jennifer, and I discuss the different ways VISIT Staten Island entices visitors to explore the Unexpected Borough. We talk about the challenges of marketing a destination so close to Manhattan, and the creative ways in which VISIT Staten Island has collaborated to boost tourism! The Unexpected Borough As we all know, the tourism and hospitality industry is extremely competitive—especially when a destination is nestled in the heart of a tier-one city like NYC. To help the Unexpected Borough stand out from the crowd, Colleen and Jennifer stretched their creative and collaborative efforts as far as they would go. They worked with the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce to hire a marketing agency that could help with some of the heavy lifting. They held workshops with cultural stakeholders in the area such as museums and art galleries, so they could rebrand Staten Island through that lens. Colleen and Jennifer created a unique and refreshing image for Staten Island, which gave them a platform to form partnerships and build itineraries moving forward. You Haven’t Seen New York Until You’ve Seen Staten Island The ”Unexpected Borough” tag line has taken off, and people are using it everywhere. It has been so well-received because the entire campaign is completely void of desperation and packed with confidence. Staten Island isn’t begging people to visit, they are asserting the notion that you haven’t truly seen New York without visiting Staten Island. There is so much to offer, and so much love to spread, which is why Colleen and Jennifer have seen such a great return on their investment in this project. When people finally do get to see Staten Island, they are proactively sharing their experiences for the world to see. It has created a compound effect that is driving visitor traffic to this day. Nobody Will Buy Your Products and Services - Here is Why Series. I saw this online and i think you'll find it helpful, you can check out for my own resources online at somethingfy.com. However, this is what I saw that i think you'll find it helpful.... Are you frustrated that your product or service isn't selling? If no one is buying from you, there could be a number of different factors contributing to your sales slump, which can be detrimental to one's bottom line. 1. You Don't Have a Unique Selling Proposition Even if you're in a niche market, you need to have a Unique Selling Proposition (USP) for your product or service. The USP is a factor that differentiates you from your competition, which is important because how you approach your USP (and how you sell your difference to customers) will determine the success of your product or service. Sometimes, the USP is as simple as having the lowest price. Other times it may be having a superior piece of technology over your competitors. Whatever your USP is, you need to find it and embrace it so that your customers can as well. 2. Your Product/Service is Not as Great as You Think We all like to think that we're genuises, and maybe some of us are, but sometimes we can be like a new parent when it comes to our products or services. If you believe that you have the greatest product or service on the planet, stop right there. (You don't.) Having this mindset can be detrimental because you feel like your amazing product or service should be flying off the shelves…all on its own! Why can't people see how great my product or service is?! It's not that your product or service is misunderstood, it's that you need to step back and reassess the true value of your product or service to your customers, and then market it appropriately. 3. You're Targeting the Wrong Audience Companies oftentimes market to the wrong audience because they a) have not done their research, b) had the wrong target audience in mind from the outset, or c) don't understand their customer base in the first place. Don't be these guys. You absolutely must know who your audience is, and if you don't know who you want to target as your customer, perhaps you don't know your product or service as well as you think you do. You may need to reassess who your awesome product or service is for. Your enterprise will fail if you end up marketing to the wrong audience. We're talking wasted time, money, and effort with nothing to show for it except for a once-eager audience that will have gone elsewhere. 4. Your Product/Service Isn't Valued Much like targeting the wrong audience, if your customers have no need for your product or service, then it is of no value to them. You must know who your audience is so you can properly sell them what they need. This could be one reason why the product or service you think is so brilliant isn't selling the way you think it ought to be. Customers want to be catered to, meaning they expect brands to understand what they want and then give it to them. Once you understand what your customers want, you can deliver on their expectations and provide them with something seen as valuable to them. 5. Your Market is Oversaturated What do you do when it comes to your competition? If your market is oversaturated with competitors, it is going to be that much more difficult to find a USP that give your brand enough leverage in the market so you have a chance at reaching customers amid the sea other companies offering the same products or services that you do. One way to avoid this is to seek out smaller niche markets that haven't yet been flooded by those in your industry. The less broad your market is, the better chance you'll have at gaining a foothold in said market where there will be less competition as well as the opportunity to increase your market share. 6. You Haven't Built Customer Trust Yet It's important to understand that trust never comes easy, especially online.

Swen’s role was to help develop All-American Bill Walton. He fulfilled his role perfectly and, in turn, Swen became nationally recognized when Walton claimed, “Swen is the best center I’ve played against all year.” That label, and the honor of becoming the Most Valuable Player in the Pizza Hut All-Star Game after his senior year, helped him become a first round draft pick. Swen is the only player in history to never have started a college game as a senior and be drafted in the first round. He was the ABA Rookie of the Year in 1974 and went on to a long career in the ABA and the NBA. After his playing days, Swen taught at Christian Heritage College while also serving as the school’s athletic director and men’s basketball coach from 1985 to 1995. In addition to writing and speaking frequently, Swen is a business professional with Costco Wholesale. Swen and Coach Wooden are co-authors of John Wooden’s UCLA Offense (2005). Episode 001: 5 Reasons You're Not Getting Clients

Market Like a Boss

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 4, 2019 20:05

Today, we are talking about 5 reasons why you’re not getting the clients that you want. Maybe you’ve gotten a client here or there but if you have gone through long stretches without bringing in clients, chances are it’s due to one of these reasons. Now, this is stuff that a lot of people don’t like to talk about. We just want an easy fix! Unfortunately, there is no easy fix to getting clients. But I promise you -  even just working on ONE of these things can help you get clients. 1. You’re Not Confident  Maybe you don’t believe in your offer. Maybe you don’t believe in your value. Maybe it’s a combo of both. If you don’t believe in what you’re putting out there, there is no way that your ideal clients will too. The first step that you need to take is looking internally. Why don’t you believe in what you’re putting out there? Is it because you’re doing something that you think you should be doing? The “shoulds” are a total hindrance to our marketing. Anytime we do something out of obligation, it means we’re not really showing up the way that we want to. So, if you are not confident in yourself or what you’re offering, you need to figure out why.   2. You’re Playing the Comparison Game So many of us struggle with this! We compare ourselves to other people. We have this expectation that we need to be moving so much more quickly than we are and so we look to others for validation. We look at other competitors to see how far along they are and if we are not that far along, we beat ourselves up. When you’re too busy putting that much pressure on yourself, how in the world are you supposed to go out and get clients? So much of this is attracting the right clients and if you don’t have the right mindset or you’re too busy comparing, you’re going to attract clients who do the same things. 3. You’re Not Showing Up in the Right Places  We know that we need to be in the right places but how do you really know where your audience is? The most simple response that I can give you is to ask! Ask your audience. Chances are you are connected to someone who fits your ideal target. Go and ask them where they are spending their time. Don’t assume - you know what happens when you do that ;) 4. You’re Not Showing Up Regularly Once you know where your audience is, you need to start showing up. You can’t show up one week and drop off the face of the earth for a few weeks. Your audience isn’t going to know what to expect from you and they are not going to trust you. Marketing means showing up regularly - even when it doesn’t feel like anyone is listening.   5. You’re Not Connecting Emotionally I talk a lot about marketing is all about building a relationship with your potential clients. One of the ways to do that is through your messaging. Many solopreneurs focus their messaging solely on themselves versus their clients. Here’s an example: when you’re promoting a program, are you talking about the logistics or are you focused on the end results and what that program will give your clients? Your clients don’t care about the nitty-gritty details! They care about the outcome and what the future will look like.   6. (Bonus reason!) You Haven’t Given it Enough Time How much time have you really devoted to your marketing? Be honest. How much time have you been putting into nurturing those relationships? So many people start and after a few weeks, they are ready to throw in the towel/ Sometimes it really is just about time. Rome wasn’t built overnight and your marketing won’t be either. You are marketing to people. There is no special formula here. People are complex. Their needs change. You need to adapt to those changing needs and sometimes that just means giving yourself more time.   “How can you expect to get clients if your clients don’t even know you exist.” - Michelle Vroom   “So much of marketing comes from a place of gratitude.” - Michelle Vroom   “Give yourself time, give yourself grace and commit to showing up.” - Michelle Vroom   Connect with Market Like a Boss! View the infographic that goes with this post Click here to download this PDF ebook               Synopsis Are you really ready – not just your manuscript, but you – to self-publish? Here's a list of the ten most important things you must consider before getting into self-publishing. What You Will Learn In This Post 1. You will learn the 10 most important things you must consider before deciding to self-publish. 2. You will learn just how time-consuming and arduous self-publishing can be. 3. You will learn to re-evaluate your motives and expectations before self-publishing. Introduction Are you really ready – not just your manuscript, but YOU – to self-publish? Here's a list of the most important things you must consider before getting into self-publishing. So, before you ignore the traditional publishing process, make sure you have the stamina to become your own publisher. Self-publishing isn't a shortcut to seeing yourself in print, or to success. If anything, it's more arduous and time-consuming than writing the book itself. Sign # 1. You Believe That “If I Write It They Will Come” Get serious. This thinking might work for a big-time author like Stephen King, but not for you and me. A writer like King already has a very devoted audience of millions of readers and buyers. The rest of us need to work really long hours to make our books sell. We need to become experts in marketing, sales, SEO, blogging, and all social media. We need to spend every minute possible sitting at our desk and writing. And the writing better be good. Thank you to author Joel Friedlander of TheBookDesigner.com for linking to this article. Sign # 2. You Haven't Researched Your Market Thoroughly You better know everything there is to know about your market and your audience. Who will be reading and buying your books? What are the hottest topics and trends in your market? What books are actually selling in your industry (on Amazon)? By writing and publishing, you are putting yourself out there as an expert in your niche. Your audience expects you to sound and act like an expert. If they get the slightest hint that you aren't the expert that you're telling them that you are, you'll lose your audience and they won't come back to read or buy your books. Thank you to Eldon Sarte of WordPreneur.com for featuring this article on his website. Sign # 3. You Don't Understand What Actually Goes Into A Salable Book This one might seem too obvious, but to some of us, it isn't. Too many books are getting published that barely look like a finished book. I've seen one too many books missing the table of contents, page numbers, index, ISBN, etc., and even the author's name! If you want to be taken seriously as a publisher and author, and gain your audience's respect, you must create a professional-looking product. Complete in every way that a reader expects a book to be. Sign # 4. You Haven't Researched Your Niche Thoroughly Read everything that you can get your hands on about your niche. You should know who the big experts are, and have read their books. Read the publications and blogs of those writers and groups within your niche. It's important to remember that in today's terms, niche now means “micro-niche”. As a self-publisher, you'll most likely find the biggest success by narrowly defining your market niche. It's much easier to become an expert in a very specific market where it's much less crowded with big well-established writers and publishers. “Self-publishing is a business. It'll force you to become a true capitalist. It will take up a lot of your time and money, with no guarantee of success. But, the more effort you put into it, the more you will get out of it.” (Tweet) Sign # 5. You Hope To Get Famous From Self-Publishing This is possible, but not likely. Fame comes with a lot of hard work and lots of luck. Therefore, it can't be your only motive for self-publishing your...
